Mail Account Set up - Exchange not an option

In the past I have been able to set up a new email account as an exchange account. I went to set up another new email account and now exchange is no longer one of the options for account type. Does anyone know why it is not there, even though the documentation indicates that it should be?

Do you still have that original Exchange account? If so, that'll be the problem. You can only have ONE Exchange account on any single device and so Mail simply doesn't offer the option if one already exists.
This is a fundamental limitation of Microsoft's Exchange/Active Sync technology and not Apple's fault at all. Windows Mobile devices are similarly restricted and many users are deeply frustrated and unhappy about this, but there's nothing anyone can do.

After migrating over from 10.5, my Open Directory users are unable to access email. All other services are working. The recurring pattern is "mail account for: <shortname> is not enabled". Any ideas, even crazy ones?

I've already had to update the dovecot.conf once <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3792>, but I can't tell if this is on the Dovecot side or the OD side.

Many thanks to Apple Enterprise Tech Support.
The access control list for mail was not set to all users and groups.
    To fix:
    (1) In Server Admin, select the server.
    (2) Select the 'Access' panel.
    (3) Select the 'Mail' service'
    (4) Set the radio button to 'Allow all users and groups'.
Previously I'd had mail restricted to 'only users and groups below'.

On your iPhone you need to change your password in 2 places:
    - Incoming Mail Server and
    - Outgoing Mail Server
To get to the password entry for the Outgoing Mail Server you have to tap on cell smtp.live.com and again on the second view.

Further looking at a nother post here which usefully references KB23829 Comparing Desktop Manager 5.0.1 and Desktop Software 6.0 it appears that this is a feature that has been removed. Am I missing something here?

You don't need 3 separate Apple IDs, but you do need to set up each device with a unique email address for Facetime to communicate between the devices.  You can go to Settings > Facetime and add another email address for each device.

  • TS3276 Mail account set up. Can not receive mail-Everything is green in Connection doctor but when checking activity it shows stop signs.  Was able to receive mail until last week  then all of a sudden stopped receiving mail but no changes were made.

My mail account has been set up and working to send and receive mail for several months.  All of a sudden I can not receive mail.  The connection doctor shows all green lights.  No changes have been made and nothing has been changed on preferences on IMAP and SMTP.  I can send mail.  My other accounts all send and receive mail.  When you click on activity the list shows stop signs. All accounts show that they are online.

    UPDATE:
I deleted all the messages off the server of the offending email address and everything works fine now.

  • Installing a Google Apps mail account as an Exchange cause Camera FaceTime and Photo Booth to disappear from the Deskotp and are not retrievable. A deletion of the mail account returns the functions immediately

Brand ne iPad 3. Installing a Google Apps mail account as Exchange kills my Camera, Face Time and Photo Booth. They disappear from the Desktop and are nowhere to find or retrieve. Deleting the mail accoun t brings them back immediately. I have already full reset the device and updated the software with no result.
    Is there a solution?

Yep, Meg, you were right and here are the steps which cure the issue. Disable camera is actually a basic Google Apps setting .
Log in to your Google Apps Control Panel.
    Click on your 'Settings' tab.
Under the 'Org Settings' tab locate 'Mobile Settings/Device Settings'
    Enable 'Allow camera'.
    Save changes.
    Re-Install Google Apps E-mail account
    It works perfectly fine now.
Footy, my cat, sends you nice regards as well.

  • Bug in OS 3.0: mail accounts set to "Manual" are pushed at bootup

I keep my iPhone's mail accounts on "Manual" access only, so that I'm not overwhelmed with email during the day. I also use MobileMe, and I have my contacts and calendars set to "Push." This combination is possible in:
Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Fetch New Data -> Advanced
In OS 2.2.1 and below, this combination worked as expected: contacts and calendar items are pushed via MobileMe, and mail is retrieved only when entering the Mail app. It also works as expected in OS 3.0, except ...
... when the phone is rebooted. At reboot, all mail accounts are pushed, as if the OS is overlooking my "Manual" setting. I've reported the problem to Apple via the iPhone feedback form, but I thought it prudent to mention it here as well, since it's repeatable and others may notice the problem as well and search for it.

Just wanted to keep this alive. Whenever we restart either my 3GS phone or my wife's 3G they make an immediate mail check and download any emails. Both phones are set to manual for mail checks and we use Me.com for all of our email. With the 3G phone, it was originally mine and before the 3.0 software upgrade it never did this. So I'm going to chalk it up to the 3.0 and believe that some future update will address this.

  • HT4796 "Mail Accounts" doesn't show up as option to choose to migrate from XP

I am attempting to migrate files from a WinXP computer to a Mac Mini running Mountain Lion. Almost all files transferred successfully, but it doesn't appear that the Outlook email transferred. In fact "Mail Accounts" doesn't show up as an option to choose in the migration screen. I have done the migration successfully to three other computers, but they were running Lion. Any ideas?

Try rebooting the device. It should be in Settings right under General. You may need to go to Settings<General<Reset<Reset All Settings (don't erase data) and setup as a new device. The iCloud login should appear during this step. Just keep setting it up, then go back to settings and see if the iCloud tab appears.

  • Apple Mail, multiple mail accounts, setting a default.

    Hi,
I have a client using Apple Mail under Mac OS X 10.6 and it is configured with two different email accounts, one account being the users email address (I will refer to this as EMAIL1), the other account being her bosses email address (I will refer to this as EMAIL2).
Everything is working fine apart from an occasional bug where by the user selecst the Inbox of EMAIL1 and then composes a new email which should by default list the sender as EMAIL1 but shows as EMAIL2.
As I said previously this only occasionally happens and hopefully the resolution will be to ditch the file "com.apple.mail.plist" from ~/Library/Preferences, and rename the "Mail" folder to "Mail.old" within ~/Library and recreate, and lastly recreate the account from scratch. Any other suggestions here would be appreciated.
My question to this thread is how do you permanently set the default mail account. There's nothing obvious within Apple Mail's Preferences so I'm guessing that a plist file would need edited. Does anyone have any experience with this?

My question to this thread is how do you permanently set the default mail account.
Go to Mail -> Preferences, click the Composing icon and set the desired account in the "Send new messages from" pop-up. This does not prevent mail being sent from other accounts, it simply changes the default. By default, it sends from the account that owns the currently selected mailbox, which is why new messages sometimes come up with EMAIL2 as the sender.

How can I set up custom mail boxes within a mail account on the IPad

I get the error "Unable to verify account information" whenever I try and add the account (note I've hidden my email address in the picture)

  • Safari disappear upon mail account set up

I have problems with my iphone 4 as my safari disappeared suddenly. I restored my phone as i tried resetting my home screen and enabling restrictions. However when i set up my mail account, the safari disappeared again. Hence i realized that its due to the mail account setup. Previously i have not experienced this problem as my iphone has safari and mail accounts setup. Now my friends also have this problem (even with 3GS) hence i hope someone could help us to fix this. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi and welcome..
Try restoring your iPhone again but "restore as new"... just click Restore under the Summary tab in iTunes and follow the instrucitons.
Do not Restore from a backup. If the restore as new is successful, then add your mail account directly on the iPhone.
