Mail account will not sync

Changed a few mail settings (incoming server/ smtp server) and tried to sync the new account to the iPhone. The account would show up under mail accounts in settings, but the mail app would simply bring me to the welcome screen (yahoo mail, etc) and wouldn't use the account, even though it was set up as the main one. I went in and deleted the account out of the iphone prefs, and now it will not sync over. Seems this is a permanent deletion? It is checked and should sync but no accounts are pushed over. I manually put it in and it works fine, but I would rather sync with the account. Is there a plist to trash or something of the like? I could do a restore but don't know if that would help any as this seems a preferences issue...

Yeah, did that but shouldn't have to.
Actually discovered if that I renamed the account description in Mail.app that it would then sync over. Odd.

When I sync my iPhone to my mac, all is synced, but my .mac mail account. Status message reads syncing mail accounts with iphone, but nothing happens. This will stay like that forever. I checked Replace information under Advanced Option, but no help. So if I have to deselect Mai Account under Info to get a successful sync. iTunes 7.6.2 . Wireless mail, or Edge work OK. Is this an iTunes 7.6.2 problem or any other idea?

Resetet account on myMac, then all was OK.

my hotmail account will not open. keeps asking for password but will not accept the password when i enter it. its the correct passwrd?

    Hello Duncan,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Mail on your Mac.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
If you entered the correct password in the password dialog in Mail, but continue to be asked for your password, try these solutions.
Open Keychain Access, then locate and delete the mail account password item.
Open Disk Utility, select the volume (for your hard disk or disks) in the list, click First Aid, then Verify Disk. After you’ve verified (and repaired, if necessary) the disk, try sending yourself a message.

  • HT1277 my mail account will not recognize my gmail password

I had to change my gmail password when my account was hacked--now my mail account does not recognize the new gmail password so I can't access my gmail account through 'mail'

    Hello,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
    You may have multiple entries.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter

  • Mail account settings not syncing

    Hi all,
Wondering if someone out there can help me with this.
I have various e-mail accounts. Back when I was on MobileMe, the settings for those accounts (SMTP etc) would sync flawlessly to all my iDevices.
Since migrating to iCloud, I have had to update SMTP settings due to ISP issues, and none of the revised settings propogated to my iPhone or iPad.
Though I went in and manually adjusted settings, the phone is still sending mail through the wrong ISPs SMTP despite the fact that I manually altered it. This is annoying as work e-mails are reponded to from a different address.
Basically what I want to know is - is there a way to get my Phone to inheret the setting on my computer automatically (just like I had on MobileMe). There was never any need to tinker with settings on each device before. If I could get my phone to 'start over' on it's mail settings and inheret them, the issues would dissapear.
This has been a bit annoying/distracting tryng to solve this. I kind of thought iCloud would be a huge improvement over MobileMe, but although I like aspects of it, it has actually been worse in terms of creating little headaches. It's not been seamless at all.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wjosten, thank you! A simple resolution....

  • My ATT IMAP Mail account will not receive mail unless I rebuild the mailbox.

Hi - I have one ATT IMAP Mail account that does not receive mail promptly, often taking hours or even days to arrive unless I rebuild that particular mailbox. Another IMAP account with a different provider works fine. I have tried to figure out the problem with ATT, but they seem to think the problem is Apple Mail. I know the mail should be arriving because I can see it in in webmail, but it doesn't arrive until immediately after I rebuild. What's up with this and how do I fix it?

AT&T uses Yahoo for mail service, and Yahoo often causes problems with Mail in OS X, so there may not be a good solution. You can try the following.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Google Apps account will not sync

I have a domain set up with Google Apps, and I sync (through BIS) several email addresses within the domain. All the accounts apart from one sync correctly.
The only differences between the account that fails and the others are that the failing account is the domain administrator and has a large number of emails. All the accounts have 2 step authentication on and a backdoor password for the Blackberry.
Whenever I add the account in (either through Vodafones Blackberry BIS website OR through the phone email settings) everything works and the password is accepted as valid but five minutes later I get an "Action Required. Update Settings for..." email saying I have to validate the account (validation also works fine but then 5 minutes later I get another "Action Required" message).
Has anyone had similar problems and managed to work around this issue? Does anyone know why this could be happening?
The failing email account limits the number of emails per folder to 1,000 and I have tried turning POP/IMAP on and off (though they seem to reset themselves).
Thank you for any help you can offer!

  • Mobile Account will not sync

I am having no end of problems syncing a mobile account.
Have set up a mobile account on Server (10.5.7) and specified in WGM to sync a ~/Documents/Company folder where we'll create all our company documents. I went to client that was bound to server OD and tried to log onto the mobile account, but couldn't until I logged in with this mobile account on the server .. and then could only log onto the server after I created a home directory. But after mobile user account logged into server, I could then log into client and it shows as a "mobile" account.
I put a few documents in the ~/Documents/Company folder and I expect on log off it would check the network home directory folder (there is ~/Documents/Company folder there too) and copy files to it. So I'd have a backup of these files.
Nothing seems to sync.. that is the server folder never gets updated as I expect. I have AFP service on and I restarted it, but no luck..
I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting this. I've read the Apple Server Management as well as any other docs I could find.

  • Installed latest Apple software updates, now my mail accounts will not open. No settings, addresses, passwords, etc. were changed.  Help!

This morning I downloaded the latest Apple software updates.  After the computer restarted, I cannot send/receive emails through Mail.  I can, however, send emails through the Yahoo webpage.  Nothing (user names, email address, password, etc.) was changed after the download/installation.  I can get on the internet and my iPad works just fine, just not Mail.

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
Just in case you missed some of the files:
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is your the root library on your Hard Disk.
