Mail accounts coming back online by themselves

I have two Macs -- Mac Pro at home and a Retina MBP for the road.  When I leave home, I set my mail to "offline" on the Mac Pro, so it doesn't pull my e-mail off the server (nad prevent me from reading it on my laptop).  This has worked swimmingly for a long time -- until Mountain Lion.
Now, I'll come home and find that Mail is back "online", and it has been downloading away.  I've double-checked that it's offline when I leave and it's always online again when I come home.
Anyone else having a similar experience? I did send feedback to Apple just in case it's a bug.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have an android phone. If I read a message on my phone, it still shows up on my desktop.
One of the problems with deleting messages is that I when I delete messages from the main Inbox (the Inbox that includes all incoming messages from all accounts), some of those messages stay in the Inbox for the individual account as unread. A typical scenario is that after reading all of my new email and deleting messages, I notice that Mail shows that I still have unread mail. So I go to the Inbox for an individual email account, and there are a bunch messages that I deleted (sometimes half, sometimes all of what I deleted) that are in the Inbox of the individual account and show as unread. Then when I go back to the main Inbox, and all of the messages that I deleted are suddenly back in the that Inbox. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to which messages get stuck. Sometimes the messages go away on their own. Sometimes they won't ever go away. I delete them from the main Inbox; they come back. I delete them from the individual account Inbox; they come back. I go to the Trash, delete them before they've gone back the the Inboxes, and they come back. The only way I can get rid of these zombie messages is to access the account through a browser and delete those messages online.
Another problem I have, is that Mail is constantly asking me to re-enter the password for one of my email accounts. Fortunately, it's an account I use less frequently, but it's a real problem when I Mail asks me to re-setup up an account every time I open Mail.
The problem has doubled or tripled the time it takes for me to keep track of my email. I'm going through reviews and looking for a replacement for Mail. I will be the first time I've used something besides Mail since I used Eudora (during the time when it was the best program available and you had to buy it).

I have deleted preferances. I deleted the account using the - sign in system preferances. I make the account inactive, close mail and relaunch and it is active. I have using the email and installed a new ssd system drive. I was able to change some of the mail program settings but then it just quit letting me change and save them. When I delete it in the mail program, it asks it I want to remove it for good, I say yes.

  • Deleted emails in Mail keep coming back since 10.10.3 update

Mac Mail won't let me delete email or move email to other mailboxes since updating to 10.10.3. I delete messages or move them to other folders/mailboxes, and they keep coming back to my Inbox. Some messages come back almost instantly. Some come back after a few minutes. Other messages have come back that I deleted earlier in the day. There don't appear to be duplicates, since the messages I deleted aren't in the trash or in the folder/mailbox to which I moved them. Some messages have stayed in the trash, but when I try to permanently delete them, they reappear. The only way I've been able to permanently delete messages is by going online and deleting them in Gmail. I have used Gmail in combination with Mail for years without problems, and I had been using an earlier version of Yosemite without problems. My mail account is a Gmail account set up as IMAP. I have folders/mailboxes that are in Gmail and I have folders/mailboxes that are on my computer, but the messages I move won't stay in either type of mailbox. I tried rebuilding the mail envelop with Onyx which has helped with Mail quirks in the past, but this time it did nothing to solve the problem.

  • Mail keeps coming back

My mail account is going crazy! When I delete a message it keeps coming back, and back, and back. Today I had 650 new messages - all old ones that I have already read. I have no clue what's going on. I have a yahoo account that is set up through Mail...can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

Ok, so I put my preferences to what you said - still doesn't work (I did not have Remove copy from saver checked). By old I mean 9 messages from Sept 17th-yesterday....they just keep repeating themselves over and over and over....so it ends up 30 of the same message - x 9 messages. I haven't received anything new on my yahoo account since yesterday. I do know I received a mail posting from a Gay Morgan RE: Response needed regarding Statement $47312. I had no clue who that was - but opened it in case it was something for my hubby. It had a Word document attached to it that I did NOT open. A while later I got a message from Yahoo mail about my virus protection not being available for the Gay Morgan message.....but I thought I couldn't get a virus on a mac?? I talked with a mac dude over the phone and he said it didn't sound like a virus...but I was too cheap to pay the $50 to have him help me!
    thanks for helping!

  • Deleted mail keeps coming back in to mail

Using mail on Imac, Laptop, ipad and iphone.
When I move a message to a folder on the imac it keeps coming back in to the mail account.  It appears to work OK on the laptop when I move a message.  All the settings appear to be the same.  Any idea what is going on?
    Thanks

An update to my previous questions.  This problem I think started after Maverick was installed.  Also if I just try to delete a message it will pop back in.  Appreciate someone telling me what is going on?
    Thanks

  • Mal/Phish-A threat from mail keeps coming back

I have been dealing with this Mal/Phish-A threat for a couple of months now. I keep getting a Sophos Alert to clean this Mal/Phish-A threat and when I clean it up, it pops up again. At first after a couple of days, now sometimes multiple times an hour. Needless to say this makes work very difficult, and I am also scared that the safety of my (professional) Mac is compromised. The threat appears to be an email attachment always called FullDetails.html. I read my mails using the Mac's Mail programme, and this particular account is a gmail account. I use the imap.gmail.com server to pull in email. The path of the threat is something like /Users/MYCOMPUTER/Library/Mail/[email protected]/[Gmail]/Alle berichten.imapmbox/Attachments/110344/2/FullDetails.html. I have tried the following: Clean up the threat using SophosScanning the computer (finding nothing every time) using Sophos after cleanupRemoving the attachments in FinderFinding emails containing FullDetails.thml and removing the mailsEmptying out my trash immediately after Threat keeps coming back. I don't know what to do. Please help!

Hi all,I would love to receive some more feedback on this issue. I am able to remove the threat from my computer, but I get new mails sent with this same virus every day, and I want to find a solution that does not involve me removing the mail after it's already downloaded to my computer. My Mac mail client downloads all mails and attachments to my computer, even if I don't open them. This means that the attachment I get sent everyday is downloaded automatically. I use gmail als mail client, but read all mails from the Mac mail client. Solution that's been suggested is 'catch' the email from gmail webmail, delete from there and after that open my mail client on the computer. However, this is not a real solution: I use the mail client on the Mac for reasons of efficiency and speed during my work and opening up and deleting mails from gmail everyday before the working day starts is not a real solution. I would like to hear if there is a way to prevent mails from arriving in my mail, or to permenantly delete mails upon arrival, without them being stored in inbox, trash or spam folder. Hope someone here has the solution!

  • Deleted undeliverable mail keeps coming back to the inbox!

Today I sent out an email to about 100 people. When I try to delete the 30 messages that came back as undeliverable messages they simply return to the inbox, instead of being permanently deleted from the trash. Any ideas?

You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? Does it allow web access? If not, you may find the Account Info window useful to solve this problem — choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window.

  • OLD E-mails keep coming back

I keep getting old E-mails from the beginning of June.  they are being redelivered to my inbox as if they were new.  also some old delted folders show back up as well.  it's really annoying!!!

Another interesting point about these returning emails.  If I do a  targeted search by sender, e.g., nytimes.com, the old emails don't turn up in the search results.  And those old emails I had designated as spam (e.g., Dr Oz crap) have also returned.  I'll follow advice about Facebook page.

  • Deleted mail keeps coming back

I go thru the process of deleting an email message then I go to the trash and delete it from there as well, often when I start up my touch another time I still see the deleted email appear as if I never deleted it before. Any help out there?

    Hi,
What account are you using for Mail? My GMail works fine, so maybe it is just your account. Are you sure when you check your emails you are in "Inbox" and not "Trash"?
    Hope this helps!

  • Mail keeps coming back after deleted

I keep getting deleted mail back.

If you're on pop, deleting mail off the iPad will only get rid of it off the device, to stop this from happening you need either IMAP or delete the messages yourself fom the server

  • Read e-mail keep coming back as unread

Around two times a week, or more, Mail keeps telling me that e-mails I have read is unread. Around 4-12 e-mails pops up as unread, still with the same date as when I received them the first time.
    Anyone have the same problem?

Well, I don't know if Mail is downloading them, because they are still in my inbox. But they pop up as unread rather often.

  • Old mail keeps coming back? & Junk Mail Delete grayed out.

    Issue 1
Old mail, dated from previous months, keeps appearing, mainly in Trash.
I read some Discussion about 'ipurge,' -- I tried it as a Terminal command but said it wasn't there.
I checked with the mail server - Google -- and the emails are not there...
    Issue 2
Also, on Mail menu>Mailboxes>Erase Junk Mail is grayed out.....and maybe this happen after starting to use a spam filter (SpamSieve).
I sure wish I didn't get so much spam. My email address must have recently gotten picked up...it's disgusting.

    ONE DAY LATER -
From another thread I got the idea to check out these ever returning trashed emails. The idea there was to delete Google's Junk folder.
Did that but it didn't seem to solve the problem although the idea of investigating the Google Mail Server.
That led to discover that after clicking on Trash/Delete for emails they went into a Trash folder -- and stayed there -- and a 2nd trashing was necessary and there was a tab/button saying: DELETE FOVEVER, which sort of implies that Trashed items hang around and require this 2nd trashing, with clicking DELETE FOREVER (see photo).
I'll see what happens over the next few days.

  • ETA for MyVerizon and VZW Stores Coming Back Online?

Is there a proper ETA for when Midwest stores will be back up and running?  Yesterday (all day), Minnesota stores reported their systems 'being down.'  I can't access "My Verizon", so I can only assume stores are still down, too.  Could we get a public statement as to what is going on?  Did someone slip up on a database backup or something?  When (realistically, not the "in an hour" we've been getting for over 24 hours) is this expected to be fixed?

Try rebooting the router - again - if necessary. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plu it in again. It would not hurt to restart the iPad either.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also try Settings>Wi-Fi>Your home network name>Forget this network, restart the iPad and then try to find the network and join it again ..... Or Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, restart, find the network, try to join again.

  • Some mail accounts grayed out, connections ok, but cannot access mail

2 of my 4 e-mail accounts, that I access via Mac Mail suddenly became 'grayed out' between the morning, when I was checking e-mail on my laptop at home, and the mid-afternoon,when I tried to check mail again while the laptop was on
    the campus network.
Running snow leopard 10.6.1, Mail Version 4.1 (1076); have had File
Vault ON the past 10 days due to travel but normally it has been off.
Affected accounts were a personal commercial mail service (POP) and my main work account (Exchange IMAP) but my g-mail (POP) and alternate work account (IMAP but not exchange)were not affected. Connection Doctor says connection and login to
    server on both accounts succeeded.
Both grayed-out accounts appear fully functional by alternate access
(web mail versions (both), iPhone (both), & Microsoft Outlook on
Windows for the Exchange IMAP account). Both accounts are enabled. I
have not, to the best of my knowledge, changed the account settings for
either account in Mail preferences or on the servers via alternate
    access.
The same problem persists now on my home network again (cable modem/airport wireless, all working smoothly for non-mail related activities).
Running snow leopard 10.6.1, Mail Version 4.1 (1076); have had File
Vault ON the past 10 days due to travel but normally it has been off.

I had un-enabled and re-enabled, but not checked 'take online/take offline'. One of them did offer 'take online', so that may have been its problem.
For the other one, after un-enabling the other 3 accounts, it spontaneously started downloading the waiting mail, so was back online.
I thought it might be something ridiculously simple like this that I'd accidentally messed with....not that I was even aware of this option until now. Still don't know how I managed to take them offline, without meaning to, but now that I know about this, can check here first if it happens again. thanks!

  • Deleted e-mail keeps comming back some times days old email how to correct this

Deleted e-Mails keep coming back some are days old how to correct this

I am having the same problem. Not sure about the original poster, but hre is my situation. Hoping someone can provide assistance.
The deleted emails in my Galaxy S5's default email program (envelope with an red @ in the middle) keep returning like a bad case of ___.  I have a Yahoo mail account and I access it from the S5, my Galaxy Note Pro (via AquaMail and Yahoo mail apps) and regular Web Yahoo mail.
Everything was working fine until Yahoo forced me to change my password last month.  I then had to make several attempts to get my S5 and Note Pro programs to accept the new password, but ultimately all started accessing and syncing again.  Only, if I delete email on the S5, they return in a few minutes.  If I delete them on the Note Pro or regular Yahoo, all works properly and the S5 will sync and update the email inbox to match.
I tried the suggestion above, but did not see those settings.  When I look at the "incoming" settings, I see am setup as a IMAP server, SSL security, Port 993.  Outgoing is set to SMTP, SSL, Port 465.  I see no other settings that can be changed.
