Mail accounts - how to make IMAP

I have a Gmail account that I want to access with Apple Mail, and it can be accessed as a POP or an IMAP server. Iwish to use imap.  But the account creation process gives me no choice, and makes it a POP account. How can I create an email account in Mail that uses imap?

Change the server settings to
inbound server:     imap.gmail.com     port 993 SSL
outbound server:     smtp.gmail.com     port 587 SSL      Authentication: Password

  • Converting Mac Mail Accounts from POP to IMAP?

I'm just discovering IMAP for keeping my email synced. Is it possible to convert my 5 Mac Mail accounts from POP to IMAP or do I really have to start 5 new accounts & then deal with importing all that email to the new ones somehow? I've tried experimenting with changing the incoming mail server manually form pop.gmail.com to imap.gmail.com to no avail. Any suggestions/instructs are appreciated. Also, seems that, at least for gmail, the recommended Apple Mail client pref settings aren't current with Mail 3.5. Any guide to where mailbox behaviors should be set to work correctly for gmail & other mail servers (I'm using gmail, comcast, godddy and a private mail server) would be great!

first you have to make sure that the email providers for those accounts offer IMAP. if they don't you can't do anything. gmail does as you mentioned but most email providers only offer one type of access. if an email provider supports IMAP then you have to create a new account for IMAP for the email address. there is no way to change the type of an existing account. once you do set it up it will sync with the server so if your mail was kept on server (that's the default for gmail POP I think) you don't have to do anything. It will sync automatically. If you remove POP mail from server (default for most POP providers) then you'll have to move your messages from the existing local POP mailbox to the imap mailbox. It will sync with the server and upload all those emails back to the server. That might take a long time and a lot of bandwidth if you have a lot of stuff so it's up to you if you want to do this. You can simply move that mail to a local mailbox in "on my mac" section. after your imap account is set and has all the mail you need, you can delete the POP account.
Lastly see this link for gmail imap setup (also check out the link to recommended client settings)

  • Can't setup MAIL account on iMac no IMAP server

Can't setup MAIL account on iMac no IMAP server. Says I have wrong SMTP server. I"m using a iMac version 10.9.4.  MavericksHere is an example for you. I'm trying to set up Time Warner Cable mail account. I have Gmail, iCLoud and Yahoo mail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try setting it up with these servers: https://www.timewarnercable.com/en/residential-home/support/faqs/faqs-internet/e -mailacco/incoming-outgoing-server-addresses.html
You can edit the SMTP server by choosing Edit SMTP server list from the popup menu (Outgoing Mail server).

  • Is there a way to change a Mail account from POP to IMAP?

    Greetings,
Is there a way to change a Mail account from POP to IMAP so as not to have to create a new account?
    Thanks

GMail offers both without you have to pick one or the other? If so, and changing the server doesn't work then you will need to re-establish the account in Mail. Don't delete the old account (or you will lose any downloaded messages) - there's no reason why you shouldn't have both available. You can move the messages from the POP account to another folder and then delete it.

  • Change the mail account from POP to IMAP

    Hi All,
I have been looking around on how to switch a 10 years old email account from POP to IMAP for quite a while without success.
I've noticed that if I delete a POP account all emails are deleted, and despite all the backups I'm concerned even creating a new IMAP account and move back into all the emails.
    What do you suggest?
If I move all the emails into a local folder, are these email "disconnected" from the POP account so would I be able to delete the POP account without incur in a mass mail deletion?
    Thanks
    Andrea

Having Mail automatically change account type from, say, POP3 to IMAP is not going to happen, in my opinion. With it would come great risk of losing existing data between the cracks, and I don't think Apple of other developers will do that. There would be no one size fits all in the IMAP server world, and communication to change On My Mac mailboxes to folders residing on the server needs forethought.
Looking at it another way, it would be like moving your bank account from one bank to the other, via only web access.
The headaches are not the product of Mail or other email clients, but rather understanding the difference between POP and IMAP, and that many people do not understand those differences is demonstrated every day on this forum.

  • HT1277 Just downloaded mountain lion. We have 2 different e-mail accounts-how can they be separated when checking e-mail so you don't have to go thru both to get the ones you want.

Just downloaded mountain lion.  Have 2 different e-mail accounts but now they come in together.  How can they be separated like they were in snow leopard?

Mountain Lion, like Lion before it, now has a combined Inbox and there's no way to separate it as such, though if you click the disclosure triangle to the left of the Inbox icon, you can see individual Inboxes below the primary.

  • 2nd Yahoo Mail Account - How to access?

Problem:  I'm unable to set up my personal Yahoo Business mail account on my iPhone.
I have my work enterprise mail set up with the regular native iPhone mail client.  It is my desire to keep my work enterprise e-mail account completely separate from either my Yahoo or Gmail accounts.
I actually have two different Yahoo e-mail accounts, one personal and a separate Yahoo Business account.  I've got my regular Yahoo personal account going to the Yahoo Mail app for iPhone - no problem.  However, I'm unable to find a way to have my separate Yahoo Business account on the iPhone.  The Yahoo Mail app doesn't seem to allow the accessing of two separate accounts by the app.
Any suggestions as to how I can access the Yahoo Business account on the iPhone when I've already got a separate personal Yahoo mail account going to my Yahoo mail app for iPhone?    Thanks!

  • Multiple mail accounts - how to get around default 'send' account

I have multiple mail accounts on my iphone - personal, work, etc... No matter which account I send from, the recipient always sees it as coming from my personal mail account. I was told this is a apple restriction - that the 'default' account in your mail settings means that only one account can be set. This is not how it used to work previously...? Any suggestiongs ?

Hi DavBMan, thanks for your reply. Yes I do know about seeing the 'from' address and manually changing it. Even when I do that, even though the phone shows the correct from address (even shows in the correct sent mailbox on the iphone), the recipient still sees another (my personal) 'from' address no matter what.
Do you know of any info on the Apple support site for this? I haven't been able to find anything.
    Again, thanks for your help

  • Can't set mail account up as iCloud IMAP

Following upgrade to Mountain Lion, have tried several times to persuade Mail to accept my principal account as an iCloud IMAP, including deleting account. However it always reverts to a MobileMe IMAP account. Could this be because I have an @mac.com alias?

Try changing your alias. I think the @mac.com alias is probably causing your problem.
What are you using for your alias when setting up the account in Mail?
Do you have a @me.com email address?
I have an alias of @icloud.com, which I got by getting a @me.com email address.

  • Changing Mail Account from POP3 to IMAP

I have to change hosts for my domain and primary e-mail address, and as long as I need to recreate my account, I’d like to change it from POP3 to IMAP. How would I change the account settings in Mail so that all my previous e-mails aren’t deleted when I change protocols? Thanks.

As I don't know whether what you want to do is possible or not, I would rather create a new account with the new settings and copy the emails from the old one to the new one (I think this will keep email dates correct). Then, after verifying that the new one works OK, I would delete the old one.

  • SD Billing to FI Accounting: How to make Baseline Date equal to Entry Date?

    Hello,
I have configured Baseline Date to be equal to Entry Date in the Payments Terms in OBB8. I have assigned this payment term to the Customer as well as the Sales Order.
But still, when I release a Billing Document to accounting through VFX3, the Baseline Date in the Accounting Document is taken as the Document Date/Posting Date.
What does the configuration in Payment Terms do?
How can I get the Baseline Date to equal the Entry Date?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!
    Bharath

Just copy from the standrad delivered 0001 to some Z001 and change the date to entry date.
For me it is working fine. Also try first individually using FB60 or FB70 to llok at the behaviuor of the system.

  • I have suddenly lost all my reminders in a perticular mail account, how can i get them back on my ipad?

    Ipad2

    How did it get disabled?
Are these apps that you paid for or your school paid for? If they are yours make sure you have entered your AppleID in Settings > iTunes & App Store and download them again. You don't have to pay again.

  • My Mail accounts in Mail Disappeared it restarted from hanging.  The mailboxes I found at the Library, how do I put it back into MAIL?

Please Help, My MAIL has been hanging, so I forced Quit the program, and restarted my iMac. When I opened Mail again, all the e-mail accounts both POP and IMAP accounts disappeared. Fortunately, I found the POP- Accounts in the library folder but I don't know how to link it back to MAIL.  Can somebody help me put my e-mail accounts back to MAIL.

I have tried several tests to see whether I could duplicate your problem. And so far I haven't been able to.
For example: I take my project files and drag them out of their project folder into a different drive (to the root level of the drive). Then I delete that original project folder. I create a new folder in the second drive and rename it to something completely different. I then drag my individual project files and folder into this new folder.
I repeat the process with the reference event – making a new, renamed event folder on the second drive and dragging the individual files into it. Then hiding the original event folder.
When I open FCP, it not only sees the renamed project, it is still linked to the renamed event.
So I'm not sure whether all that's encouraging or discouraging.
It seems to me that if you rename your original back up file (the one with the date) to Currentversion and then hide the other, it should appear in your project library in FCP.
As far as Time Machine is concerned, it all depends on your preference settings. Open TM and se what your last BU was.
    Good luck.

  • Use Any IMAP E-mail Account With iPhone?

    Hi,
I asked this before, but never got a satisfying answer. On Apple's website it says:
"iPhone uses a rich HTML email client that fetches your email in the background from most POP3 or IMAP mail services and displays photos and graphics right along with the text."
MOST. So, if I already have a Yahoo e-mail account, can I enable IMAP and get my iPhone to work with it?

Ok, so if you already have a Yahoo e-mail account, you can use it with the iPhone via IMAP, right?
But, is this right. From what I've read, you can't use Yahoo IMAP with Apple Mail on your desktop. So, the whole IMAP syncing thing between your Mac and your iPhone won't really work unless you pay for a .mac account.

  • How can I recuperate my emails after deleting an email account, how can I recuperate my emails after deleting an email account

I was trying to change my mail account from POP to IMAP. Had to delete the account. After creating the account again, I found out that I lost all my emails files, Inbox, sent items, etc...Is there a solution te recuperate all these emails ??

Not unless you have backups, or your mail is still on your mail provider's server (check webmail). ALWAYS copy your inbox/sent mails to local folders before you delete a POP mail account from a mail application.
