Mail activity keeps counting incoming emails

I just upgraded  my system to Mavericks
Every time I check the mail ,
Mail is showing incoming phantom emails in the activity window.
The number is growing by 2 every time I check even if nothing is arriving
When I quit Mail and launch it back,
it goes back to 2 and then it adds up
4, 6, 8 and so on.
Where to stop it counting?

Please read this answer till the end  before doing anything: there are two options.
It's a little tricky: I don't know your computer expertise , so please do a backup before doing it
In case something goes wrong because you missed a step, you can always go back as it was before
or if you don't feel it's right for you don't do it.
1st option
If you have all "troubled account" emails still on Gmail  server, you could simply delete the account in Apple Mail
and recreate it as POP, brand new and your problems are solved.
Quit Apple Mail
Delete the file
DefaultCounts in
/Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/DefaultCounts
and restart Apple Mail
2nd option
If you don't have or you are not sure of having all your emails on Gmail server because you deleted some or all when you downloaded it
I would suggest you to move all your "troubled account" emails still on your computer to two  folders (IN and Sent)
You can create those  in Apple Mail
ON MY MAC.
You have to do this because when you delete an account it will delete all emails there are there
You have to move both"troubled account" Inbox gmail and "troubled account" Sent gmail, in this case
and  then you set up the new POP account. If you don't know how, here is Setup Pop
Quit Apple Mail
Delete the file
DefaultCounts in
/Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/DefaultCounts
and restart Apple Mail
I hope this can help

  • Email Client - POP3 Counting Incoming Email

I have no email stored on the N900.  At the end of every day I delete everything from the inbox.  I noticed something yesterday when I went to delete messages... An option that says "Show More" with numbers.  I attached a print screen of it.   I have no idea what that is.
When I am inside the inbox and hit "Folder Details" it says there are over 300 emails... but there are no emails.  I appears to be "counting" my incoming email.  How do I delete this ongoing count as there is nothing in my inbox because I delete mail each night.  I have attached a print screen of this as well...
This only happens with POP3 accounts - all my POP3 accounts.  The IMAP accounts are not doing this...
Hoping somebody knows how to "clear" this information...
    Thanks,
    Sandy

when you set up your pop3 email, in the advanced tab befreo you "finish"  you will see
    Account title:
"leave messages on the server" (by checking this, you can delete the messages on your devcie and thought they will not be re-downloaded to your device, will still show up as what is available on the server)
if you click more, my guess (becuase i use all imap email for syncage) is thatt it will redownload what you ahve already deleted off your device, but still leave the original email on your server.

  • Help, please: how can we see who Tiger mail is keeping out of email?

I just upgraded to Tiger and I'm noticing I'm getting less email; this is good when it is spam being kept out, but I think it is keeping out some mail I'd like to get... I've added all I can think of to my address book, but I need to see all the emails Tiger is keeping out. How can I do this?
    Thanks,

    iMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

A company I've worked with from the past wrote me via snail mail complaining they could no longer reach me through email as apparently they'd been blocked, but not by me. In fact, I'd temporarily forgotten all about them but because I intend to work with them again at some point, I put their address in my address book to remedy this. It got me to wondering who else might be having trouble getting through. I was hoping to sort this out somehow.

  • In Mail, my preview of incoming emails changed to one line only.  How can I get the bigger view?

My view of emails has changed suddenly to only one line.  It used to be a bigger window, allowing me to read part of the body of the email, while viewing all new emails....how can I get that view back?  Is that a long header?  I try to click on long header but it is greyed out and unavailable even though I added the long header icon to my task bar.  Help??

Hello Macdaddy and thanks for your prompt response.  Unfortunately for some reason, when I go to View, from Preferences, there is no PREVIEW, nor option for desired number of lines, option there at all?  Not sure why?  Any other ideas?  Thanks SO much for your attention to this issue of mine.

  • Mail - Mail Activity

Mail Activity visible from the sidebar.
Send a message and the Mail Activity is NOT 1 of 1 but 18 of 18 - and that number keeps increasing with each message sent, which did NOT occur until installing Mavericks.

  • Mail activity seemingly stuck on incoming messages

On my Mac at work, My Mail Activity 'window' (the new one under the Mailbox list) continually shows "Incoming Messages", with a progress bar that never gets completed, even when I am not receiving any messages. The number of messages (e.g., '84 of 85', '88 of 89', etc. ) gradually climbs higher and higher. Clicking the "X" does nothing. This starts about five minutes after I load Mail, and doesn't go away, ever. At the same time, the 'old' Activity window (Command-0) shows no activity, except when I am obviously sending or receiving messages. This doesn't seem to affect performance, but it's really annoying. What the heck is this indicator window doing, and why won't it stop? I'm running IMAP, but I access the same mail account at home, with the same OS, and don't see any Mail Activity weirdness at all. Anyone have any ideas?

I am having a similar problem. Mail locked 4/30/2008, all emails vanished, the loading spinners just spin on emails, it says it is downloading, but a few emails in the bar stops moving left, it drops to 0 KB/s, the spinners keep spinning, and it won't download any mail on pop accounts. On accounts with no new mail, they spin and stay spinning, and then it won't allow new accounts that have been taken online to download. There is no apparent way to get them to stop spinning, including clicking the (x) box to the left of the blue download bar. I also then can't quit mail, so must force quit it. I can send test messages between accounts, and sometime they show up on the pop accounts, but the spinners keep spinning, even when it says there is nothing to download. Other functions work during this time, except quitting.
However, for reasons I can't explain, it still does fine with my .mac account, which is my only imap.
I reloaded mail from time machine from a previous day when it worked: didn't help. I did the same with the .plist mail library thing: didn't help. I reloaded all my messages, and at least they are staying put for the moment, but 1.5 days of emails seems to have vanished. Help! I need to have mail working.
I spent 45 minutes with my local internet provider's tech support: they are baffled.
    Thanks, Daniel

  • Mail activity counter

I've noticed that the "MAIL ACTIVITY" counter in the lower left corner is accumulating so that when I receive a new email it shows as receiving hundreds of emails and when I send an email similarly shows a high number that increases by one each time I send a new email.  Is there a way to reset the counter?
    Thanks

I have the same problem as many other users. The displayed number of Incoming Messages shows anywhere between 1 and 100 or so but the actual received/downloaded messages can be between 0 and 10 or 20. Obviously I am not receiving a lot of messages on my iMac because I can get them on my iPad 2 or using my ISP webmail, messages show up there which never appear in my Mail.app on the iMac. But answering mail on my iPad is often inconvenient if I have to refer to previous data held on the iMac.
The 'missing' messages are nowhere on Mail.app on the iMac. Not in Archive, not in Junk.
I do not have IMAP or GMAIL accounts; just two standard POP acoounts with the one ISP. The ISP server has no problems because of the webmail and iPad mail as mentioned above.
I have tried the latest 'cure' of taking accounts off line then back on but to no avail. Quit Mail and relaunch has no fix. 10.9.1 no fix.
What to do? Wait for 10.9.2? I am so far reluctant to use third party mail apps as I always want to use Apple's inbuilt apps where possible. But this hassle is really tiring.
Yes, I have sent feedback. And rebuilt Mailboxes.

Upgraded to Mountain Lion a week ago.  Suddenly unable to receive incoming emails from Mail.6
    Can successfully send outgoing messages.
Have completed following tasks to no avail:
    1)          When click on "Take all accounts online" and entering password for gmail / looking at Mail Connection Doctor: Got Green light, Mail was able to connect to the Internet. But…
"Trying to log in to this Goggle Imap account failed.  Verify username and password are correct."
I have verified username and password being correct.
    2)          System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars typed in name, email address & gmail password and got this message.
"Unable to verify account name and password."
    3)          Mail> preferences>account>password.  Confirmed correct password, name, email address and imap "address" Then to Advanced & confirmed correct port . Restarted computer.
    "lay person terms" appreciated.
    Thanks!

Found solution, Yeay!   No coincidence.  Mountain Lion (osx 10.8, upgraded) is not compatible with Gmail if one has 2-step verification set up on their gmail security settings.
There are 2 options to solving problem
    1)   https://discussions.apple.com/message/19109209#19109209)
This will take you through the process to disable 2-step security feature on gmail security page. Thank You  iPatA.
    2)   http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=ch_b/0/SmsAuthConfig& answer=185833
This will take you through the process of assigning an "application specific password" to upgraded Mail 6.0 for successful communication between Mail 6.0 Mountain Lion while keeping a 2 step verification process if you prefer.
Thanks for you energy & effort rkaufmann87.
    Sincerely, much appreciated.
    I love this Apple community.

  • Notes not present in Activity " incoming Email"

    Hi guys,
We are implementing « client side groupware » with outlook 2007 and experiencing at the same time some issues
    Iu2019m running:
    windows 7
    outlook 2007
    CRM 7.0
    Description of the problem :
    IN GUI
The activity "incoming Email" is created and the email can be read in the notes area with english language
In * WEBUI * the activity can be viewed but the notes area is empty
Does someone have an idea ?

    Thanks for answering,
The transaction used are copies of standard incoming email transaction 0004
The process works fine if the activity created is viewed in CRMD_ORDER in the SAP GUI => Body of mail present
In WEBUI, the same activity does not contain the mail's body
Here's a link with some screen shots :

  • Mail: how does one block consistently annoying incoming emails from someone?

Hello, ... I would like to put a simple block on incoming emails from a person on my iMac mail. Can anybody give me a suggestion on how to do this? It would even be a bonus if the person that keeps sending me emails is given a message something to the effect "your sent email is being blocked by the recipient". Thanks for helping me on this, ...

Define them as Junk and set your preferences to delete them without opening.

  • Excessive Incoming Mail Activity

I have 5 email addresses that I monitor through Mail, 3 are IMAPs and 2 POP (which are not changeable). Whenever I open the Mail program, under Mail activity it periodically shows "Incoming messages" sometimes numbering in the 10s of thousands (one time it was trying to download 40,000!). I do not receive or send even close to that kind of quantity of emails. I have two questions --
    1) Where are they going? (They don't appear to be going into any mailboxes)
    2) How can I stop them? (As I don't want 40,000 unidentified emails saved anywhere on my computer)
Thanks in advance for you help.

iCloud incoming/outgoing settings cannot be changed they are assigned automatically.  What you can do is quick the mail application, go into System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck mail (which will remove the account) and then recheck (which will re add the account).  Before doing that rebuild would be a good idea also, be sure to open Window > Activity to see when it's done.
Did this. Did not work. Very very unhappy about Mail in this OS X release.

Actually, I noticed in "More Like This" questions similar to mine.  One of the suggestions worked perfectly.
Command Shift 4 turns the arrow into a target scope.  Use it to take a screen shot of the area you want printed.  Thanks to all.
