Mail - alias non-Mac account

We have an account with a provider (non-Mac) and 1 alias. In Mail, I have addded the alias to the e-mail address field as per the instructions. When I send out e-mails from the alias, the receiver does not see the alias, but the main account name. When I try to add another POP-account, I get stuck under username and login-name because it does not accept the same entries as for the main account, while that is all the provider accepts. Mail coming in works fine. How can I solve this?
Thanks for helping me out.

You cannot access a .Mac account alias as a separate account in Mail.
The following was copied from Mail Help:
If you have a .Mac account, you can send and receive email using .Mac email aliases. An email alias is an alternate email address for your .Mac account.
To send a message from a .Mac email alias:
Choose File > New Message to open a compose message window.
Click the Account pop-up menu and choose the email alias.
When you send the message, it will appear to come from your email alias.
Messages addressed to your .Mac email alias will arrive in your .Mac account inbox.
To set up a .Mac email alias, choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts. Select your .Mac account and click Account Information. Click Edit Email Aliases to go to the .Mac website. Log into your account. Click Accounts and then, in the Email Aliases section, click Create Alias (if none exist yet) or click the Add button (if at least one exists already). Enter a name for the alias and click Create Alias. The alias will then be available in the Account pop-up menu in new message windows.
If the Account pop-up menu doesn't appear in the compose message window, click the Action menu in the lower-left corner of the message header and choose Customize. Select the checkbox next to Account and click OK.

  • E.mail alias with mac account does not work...

I created an alias on my mac account. I made a new account in mail app, but am not sure what username it needs. Does it need the original username of the account holder or the part that is before the at in the alias email address?
It keeps asking for my password when checking mail, I know the password is correct as it should be the same mac account password as always right?
I need the second address for business, and it is pretty urgent. Can someone enlighten me? I tried to look it up in the help, but I don't see anything.

  • Using Mail with no .mac account

Hi, I know I can use Mail without a .mac account, but how? Everytime I open Mail, I get the 'enter your .mac password' thing, and not having a password, means I can't get any further, into the settings or anything.
    What do I do?

  • I can receive mail on my mac account, but I can't send mail. What should I do?

I can receive mail on my mac account, but I can't send mail.  What should I do?

Hello, sounds like you haven't switched to iCloud yet, the old dot Mac & MobileMe servers are going away or gone for most already.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Sending Stationary Mail to non-Mac users

Has anyone experience with sending Stationary mail to non-Mac users? The html files that are created in mac OS X require "downloading" when received on PCs. Does this depend on html friendly servers or some settings? Any suggestions?

Having stationary in e-mail is not a new concept. Microshaft was doing it years ago with Outlook Express. The short answer is that you can send e-mail with stationary to a user on any platform.
The need to download the graphics is purely a client side issue. Automatic downloading of graphics in e-mail is normally disabled by default on most modern e-mail clients.
This is due to the fact that spammers would include a picture in their message that was actually homed on a remote server. Once your machine downloads the remote graphic to display in the message, the spammer knows that your e-mail address is valid.
If your client, regardless of whether you are on Windows, OS X, or even web based, if configured to automatically download graphics then stationary will work.

  • Podcasts don't play m4a files on a non .mac account.

So here is the deal I created a podcast site using iweb. Saved to a folder and uploaded it to www.damntourist.com/testcast
I didn't change anything. Just created it and ftp'd to the web.
If you click on the sample podcast, it doesn't load. Seems that mp4 and m4a files do not work on non .mac accounts.
You can also check out www.damntourist.com/audio/rss.xml
This is for another test that I did. Here you will see that the m4a or mp4 files can not be downloaded but the mp3 files can. All of these files are in the same folder.
The files do play just fine from my hard drive in itunes, on my ipod and through quicktime.
Does anyone know why m4a and mp4 files can be played and downloaded from a .mac account but not another server.
I don't mind doing things a little differently. I also don't mind working with my hosting company to make changes to their server.
I have spoken with the Apple Genius Bar folks and they don't have answers.
    Is this enough information?
    thank you for your help,
    -bill

You bet it can't play what it can't find. Problem is, the file is right where the code says it is. Everything is in place. That is what I am talking about. The files are there. The code points to the right place and yet something doesn't work. I even had Apple Genius staff confirm file structure and naming.
It can't play what it can't find:

I broke the link (added a space) to keep this from
    stretching this page.
The .mp4 file isn't on the server or is named
    different than the HTML code.

  • Migrating from Entourage and now can't send mail except from  Mac account

I've just started using Mail after using Entourage for many years and I must say it's been a frustrating start (having separate applications for Mail, Address Book and Calendar is a pita so far). But most importantly I can't get Mail to allow me to send mail from any account other than from my .Mac account (no problems receiving mail). I'm using the same outgoing server settings as in Entourage but no joy - I get an error message saying it can't use the outgoing server. I have no problems with this in Entourage. For example, from Entourage I can send mail using my BT Internet account or my Bulldog Home account using the following outgoing mail server settings:
    SMTP SERVER: mail.bulldoghome.com
    ACCOUNT ID: [email protected]
    PASSWORD: my email password
Also, how do I access my hotmail?

Ok here's another one. When I delete a mail retrieved from a non Mac mail account (eg my BT Internet account) and empty my Trash in Mail it does not delete the email off the (BT Internet) server. I have not checked "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" so that I can access the email from multiple locations. But when I do delete it I obviously want it removed from the server.

  • E Mail address on .Mac account

Is there any way to change my primary e mail adddress name,( not the alias) without quitting the .Mac account and restarting? I want to begin using the method of only sending alias e mail addresses so I can delete to get rid of SPAM once discovered by the search robots. It is too late to begin now because after three years of no spam, I got discovered this summer on my primary address? Thanks to whoever.

What password are you talking about?  Do you mean your user account on your Mac?

  • Receiving multiple e-mails from another .Mac account

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but my fiance and I usually e-mail each-other back and forth throughout the course of the day. I, via my .Mac account on my iPhone and her, through the .Mac webmail.
The last few days, however, I've been receiving duplicate e-mail from her on my iPhone. It started out a few days ago with just one or maybe two duplicated in my inbox, but today I just received SEVEN copies of the same e-mail. She, on the other hand, is not experiencing the duplicate e-mail which leads me to believe that this is an iPhone related issue.
If its of importance, we're on a "Family Pack" .Mac account and it doesn't seem to make a difference if I'm connected via WIFI or simply EDGE.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Perhaps much more detail would help?
Could you ever send e-mail from the iphone?
Can you send e-mail from the same account on your computer?
When you try to send e-mail from iphone to you get an error message?
    What is the message?
Do you have a connection to the internet (edge, 3g, wi-fi)?

  • Sending mail from non-BT accounts

I have email accounts with Apple (mobileMe), my own domain (hosted by Verio) and another of my own domains (hosted by Network Solutions) - as well as the BTinternet.com email account.
Until today, all four accounts were set up on my email client (Apple Mail) to use their own respective SMTP servers for outgoing mail, and all four have worked fine in this way for literally years.
This morning, I started getting error messages trying to send mail from the domain hosted by Verio ("cannot send message using the server [my own domain's SMTP server]").
In the end, I followed the steps outlined in a thread on this forum to "add" the account to BTYahoo, verify it, and change the email client settings to use BT's SMTP server. So now it works fine.
What I don't get is why I had to change this one account, when the other non-BT accounts (Apple and NS SMTP servers) continue to work fine as they are (ie using their own server details for outgoing mail).
Anyone know the answer?  Obviously it works, so there's no problem (apart from wasting 2 hours this morning trying to figure out what the **bleep** had gone wrong), just curious as to BT's logic here.
    Solved!

    Hi Gregch.
To be honest, the problem seems to be at the destination smtp service end and nothing to do with BT. You've not really supplied any details of the error message - is there anything else in the received message ?
You've assumed that it's a BT fault, rather than perhaps investigating the possible error at Verio. As the other accounts work as exists, it really does point at Verio (or indeed something local, perhaps a security package interferring etc).

  • Mail disappears from Mac account inbox

    Hi folks.
I'm a relative apple newby. I have 2 mail accounts, 1 of which is an apple mail account. On 2 occasions now all the mail in my mac inbox has just disappeared. Any ideas how to retrieve them and why is this happening?
    Tks in advance

My wife has a sub-account on our MM family pack subscription and had this issue: occasionally mail on her iPhone would appear briefly in the iPhone inbox, then disappear from the list. It never showed up in Mail.app at all. (I have the master account on this family pack and haven't had this issue… knock on wood.)
I was also a recipient on some of those mails -- but if I forwarded them to her she still didn't get them. I had to copy the text out of the messages and paste into a new mail. That worked. So it seems there's something in the mail header (perhaps?) that causes this… yet the mails have not all been from the same person / address. In fact, mail from person "A" might do this disappearing thing today, yet mail from the same person "A" might work fine tomorrow. It's that sort of multi-variable, intermittent problem that's very hard to pin down.
I tried changing her password -- to guarantee that only her known clients were logging in (no lurking POP mail readers that she'd forgotten about). No effect. Then I tried turning off her junk filters, both local and online at MobileMe (thinking maybe some rule was out of control -- deleting random messages, rather than filing them as junk). No effect (other than a lot of complaints from her about junk in her inbox, of course).
Finally, she suggested that maybe it had to do with MM push services -- since it only happens on the iPhone, not on her Mac. We turned off push on her iPhone and voila! It seems to have fixed the issue.
I haven't found anyone else who's connected this with data push on the iPhone. I'd be interested if other folks who try this as a solution would see if it works for them and post results here.

  • Mail app and .mac account

I'm using Mail 2.1.1 and Tiger (10.4.9). I recently set up a .mac account and set up Mail to receive the mail for .mac. To date, Mail has not been able to get my .mac mail. However, at the suggestion of .mac support, I created a new user on my computer, set up Mail to receive my .mac mail, and that worked. According to .mac support, that means the problem is in Mail. What do I need to do?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    William,
Since this is a .mac type account, removing the account in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information (with the minus sign button) has no risk of losing messages in an account folder. I would either do that, or the following:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder. Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and when prompted to import anything DECLINE. Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted.
    Ernie

  • Turning Red Page Icons to Blue w/ Non .Mac account?

The only time the pages changed from red to blue was when published to a .Mac account. I no longer use .Mac and when I publish to a folder the red page icons remain red, so I have no idea which pages have current changes which need uploaded to the server. If you don't use .Mac, how do you make the red page icons turn blue?

That's kinda my point - publishing to a folder 'should' do the same. It's easy for the app to check and see if there is a .Mac account (which it already does). If no .Mac account, then publishing to a folder should turn the pages from red to blue.
