Mail always tags e-mail from AOL as junk

All e-mail from AOL subscribers -- even those in my address book --goes directly to Trash. I have Mail 1.3.11 (400 mhz PowerBook G4 doesn't have the horsepower for Tiger) set to Training, with preferences set to not filter mail from people in my address book.
This seems to happen only with mail from AOL. For what it's worth, Earthlink is my ISP.
Any help appreciated.

I found a trick to combat this problem. Set up a rule special for your address book folks. Mine is set up as the following:
Description: Friends
If ANY of the following are met
Sender is in my address book (is a dropdown item)
Perform the following actions:
Set color of background to purple (this is not absolutely necessary but is an excellent way to pick them out in case of mishap and helps you more quickly identify junk that slipped into your inbox)
Stop evaluating rules (also a dropdown item)
Set this rule above the one for moving junk mail to the junk folder. That last bit is the most important because it tells the filter to ignore the rest of your rules for that person. So if your grandma sends you a viagra joke she does not end up in the trash.
I would also recommend moving those junk items into the junk folder rather than straight in the trash. That way you at least have a chance to look in from time to time in case anything gets miscategorized somehow - ie grandma changes her email address when you aren't looking.
Hope this helps!

  • Mail from AOL accounts misidentified as spam

Mail is sending messages from AOL accounts directly into the trash, even though the mail is correctly addressed to my e-mail account and comes from people who are in my address book.
This also happened recently with a message from a non-AOL account holder who is in my address book, but it is chronic with messages from AOL accounts.
My junk mail filter is set to training.

All mail from AOL users to me are filtered directly
to my junk mail... I did not set a specific rule for
this to happen. Can anyone offer an explanation?
I'm having a similar problem. Even though the AOL users are in my address book, and I continually click the "not junk" button, every piece of email from AOL shows up as junk. I've adjusted the junk rule so that AOL mail doesn't go into the junk folder, but I'm still curious about a way to fix the problem.

  • Want to redirect my e-mail from aol to mail in safari.

Hi everyone! please can anyone help me, I want to redirect my e-mail from aol to mail in safari. How do I do it please? I don't have broadband yet, I'm looking into that with aol, they say in their info we cant have it for OSX but I know some of you have it and it's fine.

I can't get onto aol using safari, is this
because im on dial up only?
No, it is because AOL is in transition to a free service & the web mail portal (the web page that directs you to the sign-in screen) is currently poorly configured. Try instead going to https://my.screenname.aol.com/ & entering your AOL screen name & password there. Once that is accepted, you will be able to get to your web mail by clicking on the "Mail" text at the top of the welcome page.
Or, as others suggest, you can use Apple's Mail application to avoid all this.

  • Not receiving mail from AOL

I am not receiving mail from AOL users ( PC's or Mac's ) I do not have an AOL account. Verizon DSL is my service, their tech. support does not see anything wrong. When I send from Apple mail the Mac user does not receive the mail, nor a message as to an error. The PC has received my Apple mail, but I have not received mail from them, also no error message to me. Thank you.

Have you checked is these messages are available at the server via webmail access for your Verizon email account?
If these messages are not available at the server when checking the account via webmail access, this is either an AOL or Verizon problem.
Regarding sending messages, try sending a message via webmail access to the same Mac user.

  • Deleting Mail from AOL Account from my iphone

I have been having trouble deleting mail form my email accounts. The only account that as been giving trouble is my aol account. I have other email accounts with other carriers and I have no problem with them. If anyone can help me that would be great.

Simple little fix for this, should get you sorted out, just has a lot of taps to it!
    Tap as follows :
    Settings
    Mail,Contacts, Calendars
    AOL Account
    Advanced
    Deleted mailbox
From there, I assume it has a mailbox checked. Check any other mailbox, then tap it back to the original box and exit out. You should now be able to delete mail again in your account. Enjoy!

  • Cannot Send mail from AOL account through Entourage

I have an AOL e-mail account and use the Entourage application to send and recieve e-mail. As of lately I can only receive mail, but can no longer send mail. I keep getting the error in Entourage "Connection to the server failed or was dropped". I have read every help article out there on this subject and have tried just about everything. Here is how I have Entourage currently set up:
    IMAP server: imap.aol.com
    SMTP server: smtp.aol.com
*I am using port 587 for the outgoing server and have authenticated it using my account ID and password.
If anyone else is having this problem or knows how to fix it please help!

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

  • Help! I need to import OLD e-mails from my AOL mail...

Well, I've tried on my own, but it's time to seek out a higher power...
I have old e-mails from AOL 2.7 and 3.0 that I saved on my computer. I just downloaded AOL 5.0 (in Classic) as well as AOL for OS X, and I can open these messages up individually in those programs. But the question is, how can I add those e-mails to my Personal Filing Cabinet in one of those programs, so that I can (the holy grail) eventually get them in to my Apple Mail program? While I can open them up individually now, I can't figure out how to save them into either more recent AOL program -- I think that once I manage to do that, then I can use that AOL Services Assistant thing to get the messages into Apple Mail.
    Can anybody help? Thanks!
    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hey Ali B,
Thanks for giving this a shot. Here's the best I can remember it: I was using AOL 2.7 in the late 90's, and to make my in-box smaller I saved various e-mails in their own folders, taking them out of the AOL Inbox (which was on my computer, fyi). Now, here's the latest wrinkle -- I found a version of AOL 2.7, and can easily take the e-mails that are saved in my AOL 2.7 Inbox and export them to a later version, and from there to my Apple Mail. But HERE'S the tricky thing -- when I take those earlier e-mails that I pulled out of the AOL Inbox and drop them back into the Inbox folder, they don't get added to the Inbox when I open AOL! I can open them individually in 2.7 (the icons are the same in the Inbox Folder, all e-mails look the same, both the new ones and the old ones), but that also doesn't add them to the AOL Inbox.
Here, it seems to me, is the problem. In the Mail folder is also another icon (and file) that says my screen name, and that somehow incorporates all of the e-mails that are saved under that screen name. And I don't know how to change that file -- just launching AOL 2.7 (or, for that matter, dropping these new messages into the appropriate folder) doesn't help -- only the original messages show up in my AOL 2.7 Inbox, not the additional ones I've added.
And, of course, when I upgrade to 3.0 (or 5.0 or AOL for OS X) these e-mails in my Inbox get added to my Personal Filing Cabinet, and I can't think of any other way to get the other (previously removed) e-mails into the Filing Cabinet.
Does that make any sense whatsoever?

  • How do i move aol mail from windows to imac?

got a new imac, trying to move mail from aol on windows to mac, assumed it was as easy as loading aol desktop and connecting....but, no mail shows up...any ideas?

    Hello:
Open the Apple Mail application.  There should be guidance for adding your AOL mail to the application.  I have AOL mail and have it seamlessly integrated into Apple Mail.  Since AOL uses IMAP, your mail resides on the AOL server.

  • How do you keep junk mail from appearing even after I have hit the "junk" button when it appeared the first time?

I have several email accounts that come to my mac.   When junk appears I hit the junk button.   Does it take awhile to train the junk or is there a way to set up mail so that it automatically goes to junk and does not appear at all in my inbox?
It's so time consuming to get rid of this stuff.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Grammynancy

Hello, it does take time to train it.
You can setup rules if there's any constancy, like I find that 99.999% of mail from yahoo is junk, so I have a Rule setup to just get rid of it permanently, I never see them at all...
But you could have it be If Subject contains Ciagra, Perform the following functions, Mark as Junk... or whatever.

  • Error -39 can't load tools message from aol

When the subaccount tries to get mail from aol, and error 39 appears-Can't load tools. If main user loads first, and then we switch names we can get mail. Is there a way to fix this?

I couldn't restore the Mail folder to the Library folder on my new installation; must be some restriction against restoring Library files. I did however copy over my old Mail folder from the time machine backup over the new installation. I then, like you suggested, copied over the Mail preferences too.
After that I loaded up Mail and ,after spending 15min importing and rebuilding the index, everything showed up perfectly.
    Thanks for your help Pondini!

  • Mail App and Hotmail Junk Mail

    Hello,
I've been trying to find the quickest way to delete the junk mail from my hotmail junk mail. I tried selecting all and deleting and I'll get an error message that says it can't delete, then I tried to mark all as read first, and then deleting all and this didn't work. If I delete one by one it works, but takes too long since 100+ emails go to it almost daily. I right tapped on the folder and didn't see much there. I checked Mail preferences also. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated -- thank you

Hi Eric, I've been applying rules on a daily basis, and I'm still getting about 25-30 per day and a portion of these coming from the same offender. I've been following your instructions from your screen shot to a Tee and the emails still keep pouring in. One of the email addresses ([email protected]) keeps coming through and I've blocked and created rules for those daily as well as the others also. How do they do this? I see they have plenty of sneaky tricks up their sleeve - Is creating Rules the only solution, or is there something more effective to do about this? Whoever they are, they are many steps above us, and I can't figure it out. To do this every day is lots of extra work, but less work than deleting them one by one (also, I tried to delete by selecting ALL in one sweep, and this didn't work). I was wondering, what happens if I don't do anything and let them accumulate into the thousands and beyond, does it matter, and would this slow things down in the mail app? At least it goes in the junk mail folder and bulk mail folder instead of in my in box. Any other tips and suggestions you may have would be much appreciated!

  • For some reason, just recently i am unable to send e mails from my aol account from my i phone. I cannot send pics etc. as e mail either, when i have always been able to before. Can anyone help ?

just recently i am unable to send any sort of e mails from my i phone using my aol e mail account. I am unable to forward pics to others via e mail. It simply will not allow, when i have always been able to before.

We took our MacBook Pro to the  apple store, after a long trial and error, they FIXED the  problem!
It turns out that one of the files was corrupt, it was either Java or Silverlight.
My suggestion to you is to remove Java than restart and then reinstall Java. See if hotmail works. If not, than, remove Silverlight reboot than reinstall Silverlight.
For us, it was one of those two files that were corrupt and that was causing hotmail to not be able to send email.
I'm not sure what the procedure is to remove and reinstall files, all I know is that my wives MacBook can now send email using hotmail.
    Hope this helps.

  • How restore aol sent mac mail from time machine?

I am using mac mail and an imap connection to aol.  I also have a time capsule and use time machine for backing up. Yesterday I stopped receiving incoming mail in mac mail and tried deleting the aol account in mac mail and then setting it up fresh.  I was shocked to find that my 25,000 AOL sent emails did not restore! I was told by an apple genius bar rep several months ago that once mail was on my machine that the emails would NEVER be lost.  Apparently this is not true.  When I open mac mail and go into my time capsule using time machine, however, do not see the SENT mail icon under AOL--it goes away?  When I try to restore the aol mail from the day before the incident the only thing that comes up is the one Sent Mail mssg that I sent AFTER the deleting and restoring of my AOL account in mac mail. The only relevant post I have found is the one below which was posted in 2008.  Please let me know there is a way to get back my sent messages.  I can't get them directly from the aol server because the server does not save messages that are sent from any client but AOL. Thanks.

Restoring Apple Mail and Your Emails from Time Machine
filed under: How-To tags: mail, timemachine Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 11:31 am
UPDATE (25 August 2010): Please note that this post is well over 2 years old and as Tim pointed out in the comments below, this method may not be the best solution for restoring emails. According to his restore efforts, changes where made to the timestamp from the date in which they were received to the date in which they were restored. I have not tested this myself.
The hard drive on my PowerBook completely died the other day, but I luckily had been running Time Machine backups since upgrading to Leopard. (I wasn’t all that ****** off seeing as I was eager for an excuse to replace my wimpy 40Gb hard drive with a new 160Gb drive). I fumbled a bit, looking for a specific Apple Mail restore tool. I knew where all my emails lived, but I thought that Apple would have a specific means for restoring apps like Mail. So I created this mini-tutorial on how to restore Apple Mail from Time Machine simply because I could not find this method elsewhere.
Supposedly, If you attach your Time Machine backup drive, open Apple Mail then launch the Time Machine application, you are presented with historical views of Apple Mail. This did not work for me, the historical views were just blank, so the steps below do not take this approach.
Restoring Your Emails from a Time Machine Backup
Warning: If you have already setup Apple Mail with your accounts and preferences, this will negate ALL your doings.
Note: This process will restore all your email accounts, preferences, passwords, smart mailboxes, etc.
    The How-To
Before loading Time Machine, open the Finder and navigate to Home Folder (username) -> Library. In there will be a folder name “Mail”. Rename it to “Mail (default)” (Select the folder then hit the Return key to rename).
Mount your Time Machine Backup Drive (ahem, plug it in).
Control + Click the Time Machine Application and chose “Browse Other Time Machine disks…”. This, of course, brings up the historical view of your backups.
Go back to your most recent backup (2nd window back) and navigate to Home Folder (username) -> Library. Select the “Mail” folder and click the restore button (bottom right).
Once the restore is completed, open Apple Mail and you will be presented with an import wizard (below). Simply follow through the prompts and you will be good to go.
    That’s it!UPDATE (20-January-2009): After step 4., also restore ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plistThanks Jon C.
If you have multiple mail accounts, you should also restore the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file as well. This will ensure all of your account settings are imported. – Jon C.

Don't try to restore the file; restore the Note. Go in Mail to the mailbox where the note belongs. Enter Time Machine from there and step back until you find the Note.

  • How do I transfer my e-mail addresses from AOL to Firefox?

I would like to switch my ISP from AOL to Firefox. How can I transfer all of my e-mail addresses, and favorites, without having to re-enter them one at a time?

Thunderbird is the email client from Mozilla & Firefox is the browser from Mozilla.. Neither Mozilla nor Firefox are ISP's.. Thunderbird will hold your address book & Firefox holds your favorites or bookmarks.. Think of it in terms of automobiles & Mozilla is FMC & Thunderbird is one auto model & Firefox is another auto model under the umbrella of the Ford Motor Company or FMC.. The ISP = Internet Service Provider would be AOL, Cable Co, ATT etc they are the gas for the auto..
