Mail and Bellsouth

I am trying figure out why I can't send mail from my Bellsouth account. I can receive mail and can't send. I have deleted my account and then re-added. I have tried changing the server port. I am continually asked for my password but it is not accepted. So I try my other passwords but nothing works. I am frustrated and need the help. Thank you from the iMac novice.

Not a MAC novice, but am new to BellSouth and am having the exact same problem. Actually, I had the same issue with iPhone and gave up (cwmx bs) had to get a Gmail account. Now at my sister's house, using her WiFi I cannot send email.
So after an excruciating and unbelievably unhelpful two hours with BellSouth non-technical non-support, I still cannot send email. ... Of course they tried to blame 1) my MAC 2) Entourage and 3) her WiFi. After reviewing a number of posts here and other places, I know this to be utter crap. BellSouth does not have a real SMTP, other ISPs and email servers (including ATT EDGE) will not let BellSouth outgoing email through unsecured.
What good is an ISP that will only let you send from home? makes you use crappy webmail from anywhere else? My soon to be ex-ISP, bellsouth. If anyone has any magic, work everywhere settings for BellSouth I'd love to see them. Thanks in advance.

  • Mail and Bellsouth Not Working When Sending Emails

I've seen this mentioned a few times in regard to Leopard 10.5.2, but I haven't really seen an answer for my situation. I have Bellsouth DSL and Leopard 10.5.2. Ever since I upgraded from Tiger, I have no been able to send emails. I can receive them just fine, but cannot send them. I've read that Bellsouth (ATT) is blocking the port, but I've tried many subs and still cannot get it to work. Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to get this working again? By the way, I can go to the Bellsouth website and send and receive emails just fine, so I know it must be a failure to communicate somewhere between my Mail app and the Bellsouth server. Thanks for the help!

Hi! Have you followed THESE instructions/ Tom

Your iCloud password is your Apple ID and password. You must know it since you are posting here.
Have you transfered your MMe account to iCloud? If not, open iCloud in system preferences and sign in with your Apple ID and password.
If you have transfered it to iCloud, do this:
Go to the iCloud icon in System Preferences and open it. Sign out of iCloud.
Open Mail. If the iCloud or MMe account still exists in Mail's preferences under accounts, select the account and delete it. Then sign back into iCloud and choose Mail and any other applications in iCloud that you use. The Mail account should be put into Mail automatically.
Signing out of iCloud should remove the account from Mail and signing back in should put it back. There is no manuel account creation by you when using Apple Mail application.

  • Mail and different isp's

I have a dot mac account, roadrunner and bellsouth. I can recieve from all three, but can only send mail from dotmac. Please help! I have configured each with its own incoming and outgoing server as described by the providers. I've spent 40 minutes on the phone with bellsouth trying to figure out the problem...I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Erline,
my problems began a bit like yours.
After much fiddling with settings I got mail sending OK, but then receiving became a problem, except from the mac.com account.
I then trashed the Mail Account settings, and started again.
That worked fine for about a week, but it's now stopped receiving from my ISP address again, but still receives from mac.com (via the ISP server!).
I think there's a bug in "Tiger", from other comments posted here....
I also seem to have to delete the Spam and read mail several times over...
    Very frustrating!

  • Problem with mac mail and Mediacom

    Just bought a macbook 13" with 4GB and 2.4 core2duo 2.4
I have a problem with 10.5.6 and mac mail with mediacom at work. I can receive but can't send. I have no problems with bellsouth.net when using that provider at work.
Mediacom has no answers so I'm here. I've filled that required fields correctly using mail.mchsi.com in incoming and out going mail servers. Firefox mail client works fine with Mediacom but I want to use the Apple client. I've used advice from what I could find on google and nothing works such as repair permissions to change ports. I hope a Mediacom user can shed some light to this problem. If all else fails I will use the Firefox mail client but I really don't want to.
    Thanks

I had the same problem with a relatives macbook on mediacom broadband just today,
Something gets corrupted if you enter the server wrong on the first try and even editing to correct it won't fix it. You must delete the server and add a new one.
To fix it go to mail preferences and click account at the top of the prefs window. At the bottom of the account pane click the outgoing server list and select edit server list. Select your server and hit the - symbol on the left below the list. I then close the prefs, save changes and quit mail. Re-launch Mail and open prefs, select account again and edit outgoing server, click the + at the bottom of the list and add a server, double click the server where it says double click here and type mail.mchsi.com in the box. close the prefs and save changes and you should now be able to send.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?

I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that  are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -

lock321, Let's get your information transferred! Text messages do not transfer from device to device unless you have backed the text messages up with an application on your Droid X2. Do you recall backing your text messages up using our  Verizon Cloud http://vz.to/1BkRU5Tor another 3rd party app? Emails usually transfer over once you add your email account information into the LG Optimus. http://vz.to/1BkRYCK

  • Mail and Safari crashing

Not until I moved to 10.5.2 have I had so many crashes and lock ups. It's as if I'm working on a PC. The problem seems to be when I'm working in mail and Safari. I know there is no solution to this problem but I thought I should post my frustration. I've switched my browser to FireFox and will see if that helps. I will also try and find a different mail client other than Mail.

    Hi, Patrick.
    1. You wrote: "I've long had a problem with my computer going to sleep via Energy Saver automatically - it doesn't, the screen goes dark but the hard drive continues to run. Check these Console logs for clues. Look for large blocks of rapidly-repeating messages being written to the logs cited in that link. This indicates a process is logging excessively, preventing sleep. Known causes of this include software distributed with Canon scanners and HP All-In-One Printer-Fax-Copier devices.
If you find large blocks of rapidly-repeating messages, post a small sample for analysis.

As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.

  • How to remove mails (and attachments) permanently?

    Hi!
I just realized my Archive.mbox (~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes) is quite big (8.5GB) and I decided to remove old mails with large attachments.
As I use GMail account via POP3, first I removed mails from the Google account and I freed up about 1.5GB extra space. Later, I searched for mails with attachments in Mail.app, then sorted then and started to remove and emptied the trash. This operation was quite weird as some of them where moved to the Trash folder, some not.
As I was controlling the space of the Mailboxes folder this is what I noticed:
    - Archive.mbox - the size of the mbox didn't change (anyone know why?)
    - Deleted Messages.mbox increases while removing another mails then decreased while wiping it out (this is what I expected)
In summary, I removed a lot of mails and didn't free up ANY space! Does anyone know how to do it properly?
Also, while googling I found out about "Mail Downloads" folder which is moved from Library to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. As I set "Remove unedited downloads" to "When Mail Quits" can I simply remove all subdirs from this dictionary to save some space? This folder is only used for copy of attachments, right?
    Thanks for anwers,
    Bart

Each IMAP account it's own Archive folder. POP accounts all share the same Archive folder.
I removed a POP account in Mail but the archive messages did not delete. You would need to move them out of the Archive folder then trash to remove if you have archived other POP account messages. However, if it's only the one account, you can manually delete this folder in the User's Library then rebuild the Mail index.
    Quit Mail
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
    Scroll to Mail folder.
Mailboxes folder stores the "On My Mac" messages. IMAP accounts store it's Archive folder in the account's folder.
In Mailboxes you'll find the Archive folder. Delete.
In the MailData folder, delete the 3 files with envelope in the name.
Open Mail and it will reindex your messages.
Let me know if this helps.

  • IMAP Mail and syncing with Server

So I would like to convert from POP mail to IMAP. I have created a new account in Mail and so far I have been able to receive emails no problem. The issue is that sent emails are not being saved and I cannot save drafts. I can send emails fine but I do not have any copies of them. It seems as though mail is having trouble communicating with my server. The option to save sent and drafts IS selected. After speaking to my hosting provider, the issue seemed to be in the PORT on the Advanced tab. It was set by deafult to 143. they suggested I change the port to 110 which is what they support. When I do that and then subsequently send an email, I get a SENT EMAIL folder under the SENT folder in MAIL. Same with drafts and I am able to send emails, but NOW I can;t receive them. They are being delivered to my server as I checked throught my web portal, but Mail wont bring them down.
the whole reason I am switching to IMAP is so that I can sink RECIEVED, SENT and DRAFT emails between my two computers.
    Any ideas please?

It was set by deafult to 143. they suggested I change
the port to 110 which is what they support.
Well, if you did that, then it should be no surprise that you cannot receive mail now. Change the port back to 143, which is what should be used for an IMAP account. Port 110 is for POP.
After changing the port back to 143, which mailboxes related to the IMAP account do you see in Mail? Where/how do you see them? Do you see a Sent Messages and/or a Drafts mailbox with a generic folder icon (i.e. other than the standard Sent and Drafts mailboxes) anywhere in the mailboxes list in Mail? Do mailboxes on the server appear as subfolders of the account's Inbox?

  • Mail and IMAP, random problem

I am using Mail.app to connect to an IMAP account. The IMAP account is working fine.
Yesterday morning I started a draft, then quit Mail without saving the draft. Last night I opened Mail and it just gave me the "beach ball" continuously until I force-quit the application.
Since then I have rebooted and tried again but to no avail. Is there a way to reset Mail.app or get it to abandon whatever it is doing in the background? I have a feeling that it is tied to my not saving of the draft and just quitting but I'm not sure.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Finally, try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
    1. Holding the Shift key down until the main window appears.
    2. With no Internet connection.

  • ICal, Mail and Finder times all stuck since upgrade!  System clock O.K.

    Very strange problem:
All of my calendar event times (in iCal), email message receipt times (in Mail), and file modification/creation times (in Finder) are listed as some time between 7:00-7:59 AM or PM, regardless of time of day! My system clock (as it appears in the menu bar) is fine!
    More details:
iCal: the events still look like they're at the right times, i.e. the blocks are in the right places, with the correct spacing, etc etc, they are just labeled with times between 7:00-7:59 AM/PM. Similarly, alarms go off at the correct time. Also, in the day or week listing, the column on the left which is supposed to show times instead just says "Sat" for all times, except "Noon" (at noon).
This is continuous since upgrading to snow leopard a couple weeks ago. Seemingly no other problems besides this.
I don't know much about the OS, but I don't understand how the system clock (in the menu bar) could be fine, but every other sign of time-keeping is completely off. I just its just something about the labeling of times, instead of the actual record of them?!
I have screen shots of the problems if that might help clarify (apparently I can't attach them however).
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    Any solutions to your problems?
Just found my Mom has the same 'time stuck' problem (iMac OS X 10.6.7) Finder 'Date Modified' is stuck at 2/14/2011. Also, the Time/Date displays correctly on the Menu bar but when click on it, the drop down menu shows a gray out 2/14/2011, etc.
Much appreciated of any help. Thx.
