Mail and Firefox swapping places?

In the last week Mail and Firefox have taken to playing leap-frog: if I sleep my MBA with Firefox on top, when next I wake the computer, Mail will leap in front of it. If Mail is on top when the computer goes to sleep, Firefox will leap to become top ap when the computer wakes.
None of the other aps I typically run seem to get into the game. Just Mail and Firefox, and only in the last couple weeks (after many months working together peacefully).
It all seems very jolly for Mail and Firefox, and I don't want to spoil  my internet applications' fun and games, but this is getting a bit tedious.
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone have a remedy?
OS 10.7.5
Mail 5.3
Firefox 27.0.1
Thanks,
Pitsligo

Try quitting one or both apps before putting to sleep.
That should fix it.
Most likely thing that comes to mind is plugins causing trouble
Quit both apps.
Open Finder
Click GO and click computer
Open Mac HD
Open Library
Open Internet Plugins < Some items should be in here by default and some can be left alone Adobe and Flash and Java and NSQT and default browser and stuff like that.
If you see Genieo (since that seems to be popularly lately) Share Point, Citrix, stuff like that you might want to trash them.
Go Back and open LaunchAgents < Can trash just about anything in here you're sure you dont want or need
Go Back and open LaunchDaemons < Same as above
Go Back and open Startup Items < Same as above
Click GO Menu
Hold Down Option Key
Click on Library
Repeat process with Internet Plugins and LaunchAgents
Trash the whole caches folder
Open the Saved Application State folder
Trash Firefox and Mail folders if they are present
Go to Sys Prefs and click on Users and groups
Click Login items Tab
Highlight anything you dont want or need and click the minus sign
Restart CPU or log out and in
Launch both apps
put to sleep and retest.
I am tired so I may have missed a few things but thats pretty well it,
Let us know how things went.

  • Why are Mail and Firefox swapping places when the computer wakes, and how can I make them stop?

If I put my MacBook Air to sleep with Firefox as the top application, when I wake the computer, Mail will jump to the top. If Mail is on top when the computer sleeps, when I wake the computer, Firefox will leap to the top.
This has only happened for the last week or two; the two aps have otherwise coexisted peacefully for the last couple years.
Does anyone know what's happening and how to make it stop?
    Thanks,

Try rebooting while holding down the Command and R keys (two keys).
If you see an icon for Recovery, select it and continue.
Then select Disk Utiltiy and press Return.
Now select the hard drive and the Repair Disk.
Quit DU when that is done and restart.

  • Safari, Mail AND Firefox Hijack???

Hi, This is a mirrored post from the one in Safari forum, and the iBook G4 general use forum.
First point, let's get this out of the way: I know there are neither virus nor malware in the wild for macs.
Now, to the matter: Today, my Safari, Firefox and Mail app were hijacked several times, and were always redirected to this page: www.register.4less.com
Always that I typed an ordinary http address (let's say: www.elnorte.com) in the address bar, I ended up in a site that purportedly belonged to the address I typed (in the address bar said the address I typed), but on the body, there was an image with the logo of register.4less.com, and the text: "Welcome to the future hosting of "www.[whateverityped].com" It was the same on FF and Safari.
It all started when the Mail app warned me that a computer with a certificate issued to "register.4less.com" was pretending to be pop.gmail.com. I obviously cancelled the process, thinking the gmail server was compromised. I then experienced problems connecting with ANY app in my computer, even the RSS reader widget crashed (and when it crashed it couldn't connect to apple for sending the report).
I made several transactions trough an https server (my bank) without any problems, only somewhat slower than the average. After this, any other website which were not https would give me the message I've explained before. I know I shouldn't have logged in to my bank, but at that moment I didn't suspected anything.
Now, some more important information. I live in Mexico City, but right now I'm on vacation on my parent's house in my place of Birth: Monterrey, México. I have a cousin living also in Monterrey, which has refered to me he had encountered this problem with safari before and only in http sites. He told me also that https sites didn't have any problem (ebay and amazon sign in pages, e.g.). He uses the same ISP my parents use. In México city I have another ISP, and have never before had this problem. Right now my brothers are out of home, so I can not ask them if they have had this problem before, altough none of them uses a Mac.
Of course I always have my Mac's firewall on. I also don't have any sharing enabled (neither windows nor personal file sharing).
When I empty the cache this problem goes away for a few minutes before returning (that's how I'm writing this).
I have the pop-up blocker on, and while typing this I changed the cookies to "Only to sites you navigate to", and deleted all of the cookies already installed. This didn't prevented the problem from happening again.
Now guys, help me out here with these Questions:
    1. What should I do??
    2. What happened?? Could it be that the ISP have been compromised?, or is it my computer? I don't think it is my computer, I've searched the entire HD searching for anything remotely likely to register.4less.com and I didn't found anything. But right now I'm a little scared.

  • Why aren't preferences being saved in Mail and Firefox?

    I just bought a used iBook 900MHz G3.
It wasn't cleaned before I got it.
It was full of applications I don't need and can't access, but I didn't think anything of it.
Then, I installed Office 2004 and Tiger.
Since then, I have been asked to reinstall Mail 4 times, Firefox doesn't remember any of my preferences, and there are several other preferences that also aren't being saved. (screensaver, my name in a couple of places, etc.)
Any ideas? I would be willing to completely wipe everything out and start over. (but I need instructions on how to do this).
I have no data on the iBook that I can't replace. My files are all on my iMac G5.
iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4)   used iBook

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Did you receive the software discs that originally came with the iBook?
If not, and you do an Erase and Install with the Tiger disc, you will lose all the applications that originally came on the iBook (like OS 9 and AppleWorks, to name two).
Did you install Tiger from a retail copy or from your iMac's Install disc? If you installed from the iMac's software, that could be a part of your problem.

  • Mail and Firefox do not open after installation of 10.9.2

Since installing the latest Mavericks upgrade (10.9.2) I cannot open Mail, Firefox or Chrome. But Safari does work.
In the dock these apps are marked as being switched on. But when I click on them, nothing happens - apart from a dimming of the menu bar at top of screen.
I suppose I can continue using Safari as my browser, but do I have to?
And how do I now access my mail?
I did not have this problem when using the earlier version of Mavericks.

    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Mail and firefox

    newbie here...
    Can firefox be installed?
also when I sync my mail account( I have 2) it doesn't add my custom mailboxes..matter of fact it only added my inbox for my main account?..my gmail account( secondary) it added all my main boxes..no custom though..
Is that normal for no custom boxes..and if not how to fix
    thanks

Firefox is not available on the touch/iPhone. I've noticed some alternate browsers in the App store but I have not tried them (nor do I want to).
I'm not sure about the gmail question you have. I'll leave that one to someone else.

  • I use Go Daddy Web Mail and FireFox may be preventing me from being able to put text into the subject line when composing an email.

As the question / statement says, When in Firefox, once I've started my webmail application through Go Daddy, I can compose an entire email filling out all the required info. But, when I put the mouse over the 'Subject Line' and click, no cursor appears.
Having walked through this with Go Daddy, they are convinced that it's FireFox because we opened up their webmail with 2 other browsers and both allowed me to plug in a subject line.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.

  • I am having trouble moving mail and and firefox profiles to Macbook from Powerbook

I just inherited a cool late 2008 aluminum Macbook with Lion.  But I can't seem to get my Mail to move over or my Firefox preferences.  I tried the steps for moving mail:  copying and pasting the keychain, mail and mail preferences files.  Nothing happened. I've started now to set up the old way (ie setting up the accounts as if they were new) but know this is not a good idea.
Trying to get something to work, I tried to move over my Firefox profile by copying the file into the same place on the new computer as old. Nothing.
In both Mail and Firefox, I can see the new files, but they aren't being read.
Stupidly, I did not copy the old files before I pasted the new.
Should I just start over and reload Lion??
    I'm so frustrated!
    Thanks for any help.
    Anne

I also see that it seems to be moving all of the mail over from my gmail account.  I didn't mean to move everything out of gmail to this computer!  Now what do I do??

  • Firefox crashes when i go to yahoo mail and youtube

    == Issue
    ==
Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
    == Description
    ==
When I first downloaded and installed Firefox, all the sites were working just fine. I went around YouTube watching videos, went to my Yahoo! mail, etc. But, later on, when I tried to visit YouTube again, Firefox kept crashing. I thought if I just shut down my laptop and waited until the next day, it would be fine. But, I visited Yahoo! mail first, and everything was fine for about 5 minutes, but then Firefox suddenly crashed. I opened up Firefox again, visited Yahoo! mail again, and Firefox crashed once more. I went around Mozilla for help, and I noticed that other people have had this problem too. I tried to fix it by going into 'My Computer' and deleting that plugin stated in the help page, but I can't seem to find anything in my computer. So help please on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!
Also, I had restored my laptop to its factory settings right before installing Firefox (because my laptop had problems), so would this affect it in any way? Before I restored to factory settings, my laptop never had these problems with Firefox.

    Hello Teresa.
Unfortunately, the computer doesn't work with waiting for issues to fix themselves, by themselves. Unless this is an error with the sites themselves (unlikely), it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to print from Yahoo mail and some web sites

I am running Mac, OSX 10.4.11. Firefox has automatically upgraded me to version 3.6.15 and variations in between for months now.
I have been having problems printing to my Epson CS5800F for at least a couple of weeks if not months. I'm not really sure which version it began with, only that it's been weeks.
Printing from web sites is intermittent. From Yahoo! mail it is almost daily. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Epson printer drivers which seemed to solve the problem for about a day. Then I was right back where I started. I am very frustrated and aggravated because I need to be able to print e-mail and web site information. And I did not have this problem in the past.
Is there a fix for this problem? Can I revert back to an earlier version of Firefox where I did not have this problem? I cannot upgrade my OSX to fix this... as this is not an option on this Mac.
    Help?
I am looking at your about: crashes advice to find crash incidences, but there is no "about: crashes" on my location bar... I have 8 options under about and none of them say crashes.
I did find the following under help: troubleshooting information:
Okay... i pasted it below, as I didn't read that far down before I posted it here. I cannot find the Crash ID(s) which would be in multiples this past week.
I have submitted all crash reports, at the time of crashing, or so it seems, as the crash report window says it will report my crashes. There have been many in the past week... too many to count. And, I have requested help in the last 3 or 4 of them... and entered my e-mail address, plus a request for assistance, but so far, no replies or information has been submitted back to me at my e-mail address. So, I am wondering if this really works, and if you are getting my reports at all.
I really need to get this problem fixed so I can stop wasting so much time restarting and copying and pasting items into text to print. This is not how a browser should work. And I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback I can get to resolve this problem asap. I need to be efficient in my work and this is not allowing that.
    Thank you,
    Suzette Sullivan

  • [E2013] [MailApps] [JS] [Windows]: window.open from a mail app fails in Chrome and Firefox but works in IE

I develop an Office Mail App which is used in Exchange 2013 On-Premises in my test lab. The mail app is hosted on IIS 8 (Windows Server 2012 R2) in the same LAN and ActiveDirectory domain.
Opening popup windows from the mail app does only work in IE, not in Chrome and Firefox.
    Here are the details:
The following server and domain names are changed to hide our internal names. I adjusted the error messages accordingly.
Exchange 2013 is available at https://e13.some.dom/owa...
The app content comes from https://server.some.dom/...
Both the app and exchange server have valid SSL certicates.
Both server URLs are listed in the popup exception lists of the browsers I use.
The app generates html with an element which uses onclick to open another item in the same mailbox in a new browser window. Like so:
    <a onclick="window.open('https://e13.some.dom/owa/#viewmodel=ReadMessageItem&ItemID=SomeValidID', '_blank', 'width=600,height=400');">click me</a>
Clicking that link in Internet Explorer (11.0.9600.17105; Update Versions: 11.0.7) opens a new browser window and shows the message specified with "SomeValidID". All good.
When I use Chrome (Version 34.0.1847.131 m) the popup browser window opens. I see some progress text "Starting..." and "Almost there..." and then this error:
    something went wrong
Sorry, we can't get that information right now. Please try again later. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.

In Firefox I see the popOutManager-access with "permission denied", but the popup window itself was already opened.
Seems like the opened popup window tries to open another window?
When I open up a new browser window in Chrome or Firefox manually and paste the URL (https://e13.some.dom/owa/#viewmodel=ReadMessageItem&ItemID=SomeValidID) manually in the address bar the message is shown correctly, so the URL itself does not seem to be
    the problem.
Double clicking on messages in Chrome and Firefox opens those messages in new windows as well. So it does not seem to be a general popup problem in Chrome and Firefox as well.
Any ideas how I get the popups from my mail app working in Chrome and Firefox as well?

  • Why does firefox close every time I try to send email with Hot mail and I have no other problems?

It looks like other people are having the same problem with Hotmail from the posts in the Hot mail forum. They suggested I contact support for my browser. I thought Firefox was the problem, I uninstalled it and installed the newest version. CC cleaner is used every time my computer reboots and Firefox is set to remove history each time it restarts. I defrag and shred free space weekly. My computer has no other issues whether on line or off. The problem of Hot mail crashing my browser/s started over a week ago. I am able to access my account/read/ click on links/delete/clear spam folder . . . . but the instant I click on reply, new, compose, (?) any browser will crash within 20 seconds. There have been no recent changes to my computer BEFORE Hotmail began crashing my browser/s. I have had {removed email address} for many years and this is the first time I have seen this happen. I do not receive error messages, it simply closes my browser. Firefox is my primary default browser. As I said Firefox was re-installed AFTER this started happening. I have 3 gmail accounts , they all work fine. I have too many contacts in my Hotmail account to open a new account with another provider. This is my personal email not business. It look as if a lot of people are having this same issue with Firefox?!?

Does it help if you disable the plugin-container process?
