Mail and iTunes open on login

My Mail and my iTunes open when i start up my computer, but they start up hidden, and they are not on the login items list. what could have caused thos

It sounds like that you had them selected as "login items" in your "accounts" pane in your system preferences, then, somehow, ticked the box "hide when you log in".
Could you try and click inside (a possibly empty) login items, do a "cmd"+"a". What happens? anything selected? You could try and "minus" the lot if anything is selected. Alternative, you could try and "plus" (select manually mail to open automatically, and see if - on selecting - the "hide" box is already ticked, in which case you could just untick and see if restart makes a difference.
Incidentally, I'd repair disk permissions as well. What are your findings?

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

  • Migrate Apple Mail and iTunes to a new Mac

A friend df mine has a macBook Pro 2009 and now has bought a MacBook Por Retina.
As the old AMcBook pro is full of problems on system level I offered to help him with th emigration of some of his old data to the new machine. iPhoto data is no problems as I know which files to copy but hesitate on Apple Mail and iTunes.
I read this extensive manual http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/moving-apple-mail_4.htm#step-heading but it tells me also to copy the old keychain data, which is corrupt and even Key Chain First iAd can't solve.
Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
On iTunes I have want to follow theses steps to have his iPad and iPhone sync on the new Mac
    1) Make sure that iTunes is not running on both Macs.
    2) Disconnect your iPhone/iPod from both Macs.
    3) Copy your iTunes folder: /Users/username/Music/iTunes
    4) Copy your iPhone/iPod backups: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
    5) Copy your iTunes configuration files: /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
    6) Open iTunes on your new Mac and verify that Applications and Ringtones appear.
    7) Connect your iPhone/iPod to the new Mac and accept any new authorizations.
    8) Use iTunes on your old Mac to de-authorize the computer.
Your help and advice is appreciated

Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
Yes. You'll need to reenter the passwords for the mail accounts.
    Your iTunes plan looks good.

  • Mail and iTunes gone!

I added some extra memory and since then, my normally reliable Mac has crashed three or four times. The last time, I lost Mail and iTunes. Everything else is fine; just these two won't open. The memory was marked as 'Apple validated' and I didn't exceed the max memory. I have tried repairing permissions with no effect and I have tried removing and re-loading iTunes again with no effect. I'm stuck. Any suggestions? One thing I did notice: just as it happened, the iTunes icon turned into the Applications icon and then it froze.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You have not specified which Quicksilver you have (processor speed?). However, here is the RAM specification: 3 - PC-133 3.3v, unbuffered, 8-byte, non-parity 168-pin SDRAM with a max of 1.5 GB (512 MB per slot). Please check to see that you have the correct RAM, as that is most likely the cause of the issues you are experiencing.

  • Mail and iTunes inop behind proxy.  Safari etc are OK

Weird problem. When I switch my location to "Work," which uses a proxy, Safari, Software Update, etc work fine. Mail and iTunes, however, cannot communicate with the outside world. What am I missing?
Thanks for any insight. BTW -- I had the same problem with 10.4.10

    Hi Matt ...
Try using OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, and it's free.
    Quit Safari if it's open.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
    Relaunch Safari.
Matt .. if those DNS addresses do not work for you just go back to the DNS tab and delete them.

  • Apple Mail and Chrome open at startup

I have OS 10.9.3.  The past few days when I start up my computer in the morning, Apple Mail and my Chrome browser open by themselves.  I do not have any startup items in my account except for Dropbox.  I do not leave any apps open at shutdown.  I have quit those apps before I shut down at night.  I've looked through some of the support discussions and none of the solutions apply since these apps are not in my startup items and I don't leave them open at shutdown. I can't find a reason for this.   Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This morning both apple mail and chrome opened again.  I went into console and there was a string of repeating items about apple mail (probably repeated at least 25 times or more).  Below is what was repeated.  Below that was a chome string repeated 4 times.  If any of this gives you an idea of the issue, please let me know.  Thanks.

  • ITunes will not open in Windows 7 for one User. All I get is the Licence Agreement pane and when I click YES nothing further happens. I have set up a second user and iTunes opens without problem in that User window.

Clearly something is blocking the main user(administrator) from opening the iTunes programme and I cannot find a solution.

Many thanks for your reply. Yes I carried out the suggested procedure in safe mode , which did not resolve the issue and so this is what led me to set up a second User account. iTunes opened without problem in this second account and so I looked at the User-specific troubleshooting but I just could not locate the iTunes Preference files no matter how much searching I did.
I also tried uninstalling and re-installing but the problem persists. Would be very grateful for any further advice.

  • Is there a way to have mail and calendar open upon start up?

I want my mail and calendar applications to open when I start my iMac... is that even possible?

Not only possible, but easy.  Go to System Preferences>Accounts, your name>log in items items and click on the + at the bottom left, then select Mail, and Calendar, and they'll open when you boot up.

  • With router linked, mail and safari opens slow!

WHEN MY IMAC HAVE MY ROUTER d-LINK G604T CONNECTED, Mail and Safari take a very long time - one.2 minutes to open on my imac with 10.3.
Safari keeps bouncing in the dock. Then, after 20 bounce, it stops. The black triangle under the icon isn't displayed. After 20 seconds safari opens!!!
mail: bounce just 4-5 times, then stops bouncing, the triangle is displayed, but no windows is opened. If i right click on the icon, the windows says "application not responding".
After a minute the window opens.
This DON'T HAPPEN if the router is not connected to the mac.
    WHY?
    please help

I know it's very late to reply but I have had the same problem recently and the solution for me was to enter the DNS servers in the Network Preferences. It solved my problem immediately.
