Mail and jpg or pic attachments

No a BIG problem, but a problem.... Anyone know how to email a jpg or other picture format via Mac Mail as an actual attachment? I can drag and drop the pic I want into my message or select the photo via hitting the Photo Browser and select which image I want from my Iphoto book; I can drag the image I want from Iphoto onto the desktop and get an actual JPG file and Hit the attachment button within Mail and select the file.......
The end result is the same... I get the image "within" the message but NOT as an actual file attachment. Even with the send Window Friendly attachments selected, on the other end see the image within the mail, but they can't download or save the file.... ???
I appreciate any help.
-- Paul

You may want to try this:
1. Attach the files as zipped files and using the attachment button feature in Mail, not by drag-and-drop.
2. Attaching the zipped file such that it's an icon and not an inline image (such as PDF or jpeg). For this you may want to investigate the plug-in titled Mail Attachments Iconizer.
3. Compose the letter as a plain-text and not rich-text format.
One of our clients had the same problem, i.e., they couldn't download or save the attachment, though they could see it in the letter. If the above doesn't work our quick solution is to switch to using Thunderbird for emails with attachments to that client (who's using Outlook or Entourage). That worked.

  • Problems with iOS 7 Mail and Cisco Unified Messaging attachments?

Does anyone out there use Cisco Unified Messaging in their workplace? I am seeing an issue with iOS 7 (7.0.0-7.0.2) where the following scenario occurs:
You check an email in the Mail app that is from the Cisco Unified Messaging system when you get a voicemail. The voicemail is left by Person A who attaches a subsequent voicemail from Person B and they leave an intro saying "Attached is a voicemail blah blah blah"  The email from Cisco comes across as having a .wav attachment and then an email attachment with a .wav file inside (supposed to be the original voicemail from Person B). If you play both .wav attachments, it just plays the same audio and not separate voicemails (one being the intro from Person A and one being the original Person B voicemail). It seems to hold on to whichever .wav attachment you played first (e.g. if you play the Person B voicemail .wav file and then go to the .wav file that should be Person A's intro, it just plays Person B's voicemail).
We did not experience this with iOS 6 and have confirmed that things work just fine on phones that have not been upgraded to iOS 7. Email account on iOS devices is a Microsoft Exchange account.
I am sorry if this is already a known issue, but I've had trouble searching for results. Any help would be tremendous in hunting down this strange phenomenon.
    Thank you,
    -Ted

Does anybody have even any thoughts on this and whether it might be a known issue of any kind? Anyone seeing this with other .wav attachments outside of Cisco UM  ?

  • Date received time is wrong on Mail and people not getting attachments

Since I moved to this new MacBook Pro with the intel processor from my iMac G5, this latest version of Mail seems to be more problematic than the last:
I can not get the time displayed in the list of emails to be correct. It keeps displaying a time that is 2 hours behind the actual time the email is sent. Meanwhile my system clock is on the right time and I would imagine it is getting it from there.
My other issue is that more now than before, people are telling me they are not getting the Microsoft Word documents that I am sending.
My last issue is about importing mail, For some strange reason when I have imported mail from my other computer to this one as I like to have the messages I have sent saved, Mail skips dates. I have repeated the steps a few times thinking I could resolve the problem and now I have just ended up with duplicated messages.

Have you checked your time zone setting - System Preferences > Date & Time under the Time Zone tab?
If correct, the date and time displayed in the received column in Mail or with any email client is determined by the incoming mail server for the account. Check the long message headers for the received message - the time shown for the first received line.
My other issue is that more now than before, people are telling
me they are not getting the Microsoft Word documents that I am sending.
If included with the sent message in the account's Sent mailbox, anything that happens to an attachment after being successfully sent by any email client is usually a problem with the recipient's incoming mail server.

Which OS X and Mail.app version are you running on your other Mac.
Unfortunately, the Mail.app import mailbox process is not the best - especially when importing from Jaguar or Panther Mail to Tiger Mail.

  • How to remove mails (and attachments) permanently?

    Hi!
I just realized my Archive.mbox (~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes) is quite big (8.5GB) and I decided to remove old mails with large attachments.
As I use GMail account via POP3, first I removed mails from the Google account and I freed up about 1.5GB extra space. Later, I searched for mails with attachments in Mail.app, then sorted then and started to remove and emptied the trash. This operation was quite weird as some of them where moved to the Trash folder, some not.
As I was controlling the space of the Mailboxes folder this is what I noticed:
    - Archive.mbox - the size of the mbox didn't change (anyone know why?)
    - Deleted Messages.mbox increases while removing another mails then decreased while wiping it out (this is what I expected)
In summary, I removed a lot of mails and didn't free up ANY space! Does anyone know how to do it properly?
Also, while googling I found out about "Mail Downloads" folder which is moved from Library to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. As I set "Remove unedited downloads" to "When Mail Quits" can I simply remove all subdirs from this dictionary to save some space? This folder is only used for copy of attachments, right?
    Thanks for anwers,
    Bart

Each IMAP account it's own Archive folder. POP accounts all share the same Archive folder.
I removed a POP account in Mail but the archive messages did not delete. You would need to move them out of the Archive folder then trash to remove if you have archived other POP account messages. However, if it's only the one account, you can manually delete this folder in the User's Library then rebuild the Mail index.
    Quit Mail
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.
    Scroll to Mail folder.
Mailboxes folder stores the "On My Mac" messages. IMAP accounts store it's Archive folder in the account's folder.
In Mailboxes you'll find the Archive folder. Delete.
In the MailData folder, delete the 3 files with envelope in the name.
Open Mail and it will reindex your messages.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Leopard mail.app jpg attachments not viewable

Some PDF and Jpg attachment are not viewable in the message and a blue cube with white question marks appear in both sending, sent and received emails. This is a new phenomenon which started last week.

I have solved the problem on my mac:
1- Save the attachment to the Desktop.
2- Press CMD+I in the file
3- Change the "Open With" option to another app.
4- Change the "Open With" option to the desired app (Preview to Imagens antd PDF's...)
    5- Choose "Change All"
    6- Press OK.
Now i can see the images and PDF's on my mail's body.

  • How to include attachments with e-mail and to verify that they have been sent.

When I try to attach a document or photo to an e-mail and use "browse" to find the attachment, then click it. The only option is open. When I click that there is no evidence or indication that the attachment has been made. How can I attach photos or documents to e-mail messages? Then, how can I verify that the attachments have really been sent with the message?

    * Outgoing (SMTP) server: you need to use your ISP (Internet Service Provider) SMTP server. Call your ISP to know your SMTP (mail sending) server. In case you are unable to get SMTP server, you can use WebMail for email sending.
For OUTGOING MAIL SERVER I am required to add the following:
    HOST NAME
(usually looks like smtp.example.com - Since I have Comcast as my it would look like smtp.comcast.net)
    USER NAME optional
    PASSWORDptional
Since you use comcast, you have comcast e-mail. You need to ask them what the correct settings are to set up your comcast e-mail account on a mobile device and plug in the same information for the outgoing (SMTP) server for the account you're trying to set up.
Warning: I'll predict now that a lot of your e-mail will get filtered as spam on the receiving end because the domain name in your email address is NOT going to match the domain name of the server it's originating from.
You might want to look into a mail service provider that actually provides their own outgoing mail servers.

  • My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments anymore

Does anyone know why this would be happening?
My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments most of the time.  When I enter some text in the search box no results come up and I know there are messages that contain the phrase that I've entered.
Also about 3 weeks ago attachments only get loaded about 1/4 of the way - if that.  So I have to log onto my web based mail program from the host and retrieve attachements or check the messgae with my iphone.
Please - does anyone know how to fix this?

I figureed out that spotlight was turned off via terminal -  I shut it off to unmount a disk (which didn't work anyways)
    sudo mdutil -a -i on
that's the termianl command to turn spotlight back on.  As far as my attachments not fully loading in mac mail on my iMac that still baffles me.

  • Mail mail and attachments

Hi, I have this issue, when I receive some email with attachments they are not displayed in mail, it's not all attachments though, some are displayed in the message body and some just work.
The only way I have found to see the attachment is to go to File and save attachments then open them from downloads.
Is there a setting in mail somewhere?
If I forward the email the attachments are not attached to the outgoing email either.

JasonBB, I'll bet that the attachments show .wmv as the formatted file. If so you'll need Flip4Mac (free) to decode them. The link is: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
But, be careful 'cause I just recently upgraded to 10.5.7, QuickTime 7.6.2, and Sarfari 4.0.1 and something made my mail quit playing .wmv files, too. The last time this happened, the Flip4Mac folks came out with another update, I think. Anyway, their latest version is 2.2.3.7 but I've downloaded it and still can't view the .wmv files in mail.

  • E-mail and missing attachments

have a weird one for you.
A friend from a neighboring state (who used to be a Mac user) owns an el Cheapo PC. He used to use AOL for his ISP, but he switched to Adelphia.
I've been sending him e-mails lately, and he says the ones I send to him with JPEG image attachments come through with the images okay. However, ones with PDF attachments are another matter. He says that messages I send to him with PDF attachments arrive with no attachments. He also says that when he checks an AIM account he has the same problem. He even forwarded the messages back to me and there are no attachments with them. Other people I send these messages to, including my mother and myself, have no problems.
I'm scratching my head on this one.

I have the same problem. Things worked fine for a while. I was able to see the body of the email plus the attachment. Even was able to open PDFs in iBooks. Now I only see the "Preview". I clock the particular email and I get a blank page with a header... plus no ability to see the attachment. This needs to be addressed in an update.
How did you reset your phone? Did you lose any content in the process?
    Thanks

  • Mac Mail and Photo attachments

I recently changed my business E-mail client to Mac Mail 3.8 from Eudora. I was very surprised that Mac Mail could not attach a graphic file to an E-mail without actually embedding the file into the E-mail. Mac to Mac my clients could access the file as an attachment, but Mac to PC they could not. I was very surprised to find that the only solution Apple support showed was to compress the graphic file as a zip archive file. This solution is unacceptable as Google Mail disallowed zip files as attachments, and more than a handful of my clients use G-Mail. I found a third party plug-in solution offered by Loki software called Mail Attachments Iconizer http://lokiware.info/Mail-Attachments-Iconizer which actually works to change the way Mac Mail handles graphic file attachments, so that PC users can access the attached file. I was amazed that there was no mention of this solution on the apple support thread... Now there is!

    Welcome to Apple Community forums.
Have you tried using "Send Windows friendly attachments" at the bottom of the attach dialog?

  • Local mail folder and randomly 0KB sized attachments

    Hi,
I recently copied emails from my imap account to a local mail folder in apple mail. Now I see mails which have 0KB sized attachments. The attachment is still named correctly but has 0kB, so I cant open it. It happens not to all Mails and in some mails some attachments are working (bigger 0kB) and other files are 0kb.
Is there a reason behind this? What happens there?
I couldn't find something on google, thats why I ask here.
    Thanks in advance!

Important update regarding Apple Mail and Yahoo! in particular (this does not apply to the Sent items/lost outgoing message problem): Apple Mail is not at fault!  I lost several messages when I moved them from my Inbox and Sent folders to another custom folder, and I thought Apple Mail was at fault, but according yo Yahoo!, it seems that my problem was actually caused by a sync issue between another mobile device (an Android phone) and Yahoo! mail.
Here is part of Yahoo!'s e-mail regarding this issue:
We recently experienced an issue syncing emails for some of our users when accessing email from an IMAP device like an iPhone or an Android phone. Emails that you might have moved from your inbox to folders (including the trash folder) may have been temporarily unavailable. We fixed this issue, and recovered emails that may not have been synced to the right folder. [...] We have automatically added a folder called "Synced Messages" to your email account today located in the left navigation of your inbox.
I wonder if my occasional Sent folder issue is also a Yahoo! problem, not Apple Mail?
Going back to the corporate IMAP (i.e. non-Yahoo!) issue mentioned by Mitchell Group, what kind of e-mail server are you using?  I have never experienced IMAP issues with my corporate e-mail server (Zimbra Collaborartion Suite on Linux) using Apple Mail (IMAP) as a client.  My only headache, to this day, has been with Yahoo!
