Mail (and OS) Caching External Server IP address

I am having issues with Mail dropping offline periodically with it's connection to our Exchange Server. When this happens, I have found that the system is using external IP address of the server, rather than consulting the DNS server for it's address. When doing a lookup with the network utility, I get the correct internal address, but Safari and Mail both try the external IP address for the server.
Theses settings remain until I switch network locations. I am pretty sure this is a bug. As a work around, I tried removing the External Server settings from the Exchange account, however, this does not prevent it from happening.
Does any one have a work around until this is fixed?

Mail and Exchange 5.5 Server (Round 2) "Rejected Passwords"
This one is huge, as you may have seen in my other replies to Mail and Exchange Server, I have had this working for over a year no issues.
Every once in a while I get a user that I setup and all of the sudden their password on the Exchange (5.5) Mail server (running IMAP, OS X Mail app)
    is REJECTED.
This is just no good, and still to me a Mystery.
    Has anyone seen this?
It seems there is some corruption happening on the Exchange Server, with the users accounts, preferences, settings.
The one way to fix it, (that I have seen) and the Windows server guys hate this, but I say too bad, completely move the afftected User's Exchnage e-mail account to another Exchanage NT mail server (they have 6 old NT 4, Exch Servers), once that is done, Mac OS X Mail app connects fine and ha no more issue with Rejecting passwords.
    Any feedback appreciated, thanks,
    [email protected]

I think I have the same problem without Exchange involved. I have seven different email accounts and two of them are acting like you describe: changes like deleting doesn't reflect on other clients (like mobile phone email client and webmail).
This also happens with read emails showing up unread so that if the email is been read and deleted same message can appear as new and when that message is deleted I can see two separate items of that same email message.
Also all marks of reply, forward or flagged are gone when the email show up as new again.
My service provider said that updates to Mail.app have previously made some big changes to way how it acts with email servers and thought that Mail is misbehaving with my two email systems.
I am using IMAP protocol with all accounts.
Thanks for any info and help!

  • Mail and notes request an icloud email address

Although I have set up an iCloud account a while ago I have yet not been using it.
After installing OS X 10.8.2 and IOS 6 on my MBA and iDevices I decided to have a look at iCloud.
I logged on iCloud .com and accessed to the main window. All but Mail and Notes were working.
Those two are asking me to provide an iCloud.com valid email address.
I do have a "me.com" email account, but it does not take it as it forces an icloud.com extension.
If I try to create an icloud address it refuses it as it says it's already being used.
I really do not understand the problem I am facing.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, and help me have iCloud up and running.
    Thanks In advance

    Thank you for your help.
I start to understand the issue. My iCloud account is [email protected]
I did what you suggested and logged into iCloud with my "me.com" email adress. And Mail and Notes did launch. The issue is that I do not use this account in my everyday work.
Does that mean that iCloud Mail and Notes request an 'me.com' address to work. That seemms strange and confusing since the other services do accept the 'orange.fr' address.
Is there a workaround? I should not be the only one using iCloud with my Internet provider address.
Looking forward to reading your suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Help: Apple Mail and Exchange - Internal/External servers issues

Hi, I'm new here... coming from the dummy pc world...
I am using Apple Mail in 10.7 connected to a MS Exchange 2007.  I first configured the exchange account while out of the office (the firm is overseas), and had the server with the IP address and SSL at 443 port.  Everything worked fine.
Then I went to the office for meetings and had to recofigured the whole enchilada (the IP address would not work as internal server while in the network).  I input the internal server (a weird address "alm-srv06") and moved the IP address to the external server.  It also worked fine.
But, when I came back (out of the office), the account is not working anymore.  Obviously, the internal server doesn't work and the external server is not kicking in.  I have even manually switched the servers, bringing the IP address to the internal server and keeping the wierd internal server address as the external server (so I can remember the config later on when I go back to the office overseas), but it is still not working...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • External server ip address

When I start on my MacBook Pro I wont have access to the internet even though wifi is connected and then I will get multiple pop ups one after another that a server with IP address is not connected...after 2 or 3 Oks then the internet gets connected.... Can someone help me out? ..... I tried Command K in Finder and cleared servers from there...

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
If you get the warning as soon as you log in, it's probably caused by one of your login items or a system modification that loads at startup or login. Ask if you need help identifying it. A common offender is "AdobeResourceSynchronizer," which is a component of some Adobe products.
    Step 2
If there's an icon representing the server in the sidebar of a Finder window, hold down the command key and drag it out.
    Step 3
In the Finder, press the key combination command-K or select
    Go ▹ Go to Server...
from the menu bar. In the upper right corner of the window that opens is a Recent Servers popup menu represented by a clock icon. From that menu, select
    Clear Recent Servers…
    and confirm. Test.
    Step 4
Open the Print & Scan pane in System Preferences and delete any network devices you no longer use.
    Step 5
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/PDF Services
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, move the contents to the Desktop, or to a new folder on the Desktop. Log out and log back in. Test. If there's no change, put the items you moved back where they were and continue.
    Step 6
    Open the folder
    ~/Library/Preferences
as in Step 5 and move the file named "loginwindow.plist" items in that folder to the Trash, if it exists (it may not.)
Log out and back in again, and test.
    Step 7
Other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application.
    Try rebuilding the iPhoto library.
    Step 8
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app
Rght-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* The application Directory Utility will open.
In the Directory Utility window, select the Directory Editor tool in the toolbar. Select Mounts from the Viewing menu in the toolbar, and /Local/Default from the node menu, if not already selected. On the right is a list of names and values. By default, the list is empty. If it's not empty, post a screenshot of the window and stop here.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 9
Open the following file as you did in the last step:
    /etc/auto_master
It will open in a TextEdit window. The contents should be exactly this:
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master          # Use directory service
    /net               -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home               auto_home     -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers     -fstab
    /-               -static
If there are any other lines in the window, post them. Otherwise, close the window.

  • My hotmail is unable to receive the iCloud activation mail and I cannot verify my hotmail address within the Apple ID homepage.  Any way to resolve this?  Any help appreciated

I have a hotmail address set up as a primary account in my Apple ID homepage only.
Any way to resolve this?  Any help appreciated

The email address that forms the username for your AppleID is irrelevant. It does not have to be accurate, working, or even in use by you. Software purchased with a specific AppleID must use that ID to update that software.
I don't know what happens when you change the old username for the AppleID.
Did you change the user name for th AppleID or did you get a new AppleID with your new email?

  • Mail does not retain correct external server path for Exchange Server '07 even when "automatically detect and maintain account settings" is unchecked. Advice?

Mail keeps resetting the external server path for an Exchange server '07 account when the program is closed and reopened. This happens even though "automatically detect and maintain account settings" is unchecked. To reset to the correct setting I need to disable the account, make the change and save with the account disabled, close Mail, reopen Mail, and enable the account. Then the settings are maintained and Mail works great... until Mail is closed and reopened again. At that point the server path reverts to an incorrect setting. Anyone else experiencing this? Advice? I don't think this is a problem with the Exchange server because this problem did not happen with OS X Mavericks.

This this to fix repeated password requests....
    Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities
Search for your Dreamhost accounts. There should be two entries (incoming, outgoing) for each account.
It's not uncommon to find old entries. You might want to delete all and start clean. The Keychain isn't smart and will keep all old entries when you add/change a password.
While you are in the Keychain run Keychain First Aid, Under Keychain Access in the Menu bar.
    Open Mail
    Open Connection Doctor.
If you see red for the account, enter the password again.
If you continue to have problems, delete the account then add it back.

  • Migrating one email domain to external server

our AD domain "domain1.com" users have @domain1.com, @domain2.com, and @domain3.com (this one is for testing usage) mailboxes/addresses on our internal Exchange 2010 14.01.0438.000 server.   All users are on the same domain regardless
of the email address they use.  mailboxes with @domain1.com as their primary smtp address are being migrated to an email service outside of our organization/domain but will still remain users on our domain.  For those users we'll be creating a new
profile in Outlook pointed at that new external mail server to switch over to on the cutover date while leaving the existing profile as is.  Following migration for a period of time we want  @domain1.com users to still be able revert to their current
Outlook profile and be able to get to our OWA in case any problems/inconsistencies occurred migrating contents to the new service. It's understood that sending/receiving mail would no longer work for them on the internal Exchange server, the point is just
that they could access the old contacts/calendar/notes/tasks/emails.
My testing with migrating @domain3.com indicated that in order for domain2.com senders to be able to send mail to @domain1.com recipients after the cutover date and have the mail arrive at the external server instead of the internal server, the following
    would have to be done:
-domain1.com removed from gatewayproxy attribute in recipient polices -
    removal of gatewayProxy via ADSI
-domain1.com removed from exchange >> organization configuration >> hub transport >> accepted domains
-mx record pointing at external mail server added to internal dns server domain1.com zone
-domain1.com removed from smtp proxyAddresses attribute on each mailbox
It seems like there should be a way to achieve the result of getting the mail to the external server without modifying the proxyAddresses attributes so that the users could still get back into the old exchange server after cutover with their original address.
    any ideas?
    Thanks

the steps to get [email protected] to [email protected] mail sent to external server are clear from testing and additional testing shows some option for still getting into the old mailboxes from clients/owa but not clear is how it could be done while leaving
domain1.com mailbox addresses intact on the old Exchange server and the AD user object 'mail' attribute intact as it was pre-cutover.  To expand and rephrase my original post, is there a way to make Exchange determine whether it should route domain1.com
mail internally vs externally via a global setting that would take priority over and cause to be ignored smtp proxyAddresses attributes on individual mailboxes so these don't have to be stripped/modified causing unwanted AD attribute alteration?
    objective partially achieved -
AD object for [email protected] mailbox has the following attributes -
    proxyAddresses =  SMTP:[email protected] (Exchange primary reply-to address) & smtp:[email protected]
    'mail' attribute = [email protected]
if we change primary/reply SMTP in exchange to [email protected] and remove SMTP:[email protected], the result of internal mail sent to [email protected] going to the external server is accomplished but the 'mail' attribute in AD then changes to [email protected]
which is unwanted.  we still want 'mail' attribute left as is for these users since their email addresses are not changing.  access to mailbox contents on old exchange server via old [email protected]'s old outlook profile + OWA still work which
    is good though.
also found that adding a domain to organization configuration >> hub transport >> accepted domains as 'external relay' in addition to a send connector for the domain pointed at the MX for the external server still isn't enough to override/ignore
any proxyaddresses on the internal mailboxes.  mail willl still end up at the internal mailbox.

  • WAP321 ignore global radius active server ip address

    Hello everyone,
I have few WAP321 with a radius server listening on 2 different IPs (one for each SSID).
I configured the global radius server with theses two IPs.
Then I created 2 wireless networks with WPA enterprise, global radius settings.
I selected global radius "active server ip address 1" for the first network and global radius "active server ip address 2" for the second but it does not work. After saving the 2 networks only connect to the first IP of the radius and the select field only display "active server ip address 1" for both networks.
    Is it a bug ? or something I haven't understood ?
    Using firmware 1.0.5.3.
    Thank you.

    Hi flallart1
Personally I can't confirm this behavior as I have no WAP321 unit by hand. But I wanted to say something about your setup.
You've configured RADIUS server with two different IP's.
Each RADIUS IP provides different authentication rules - like different user database or different set of authorization rules.
You have added both RADIUS IPs inside Global RADIUS setting configuration.
And inside each SSID (Virtual Access Point) setting you kept "Use global RADIUS server settings" checked, but you have explicitly selected "Active Server" for that particular SSID for which is suited.
What "Active Server" means: Enables the administrative selection of the active RADIUS server, rather than having the WAP device attempt to contact each configured server in sequence and choose the first server that is up.
In reality this means that from existing pool of available RADIUS servers you can choose preferred server by your own. But in case that preferred RADIUS server is not reachable, another one will be used for that SSID. But this is not good behavior in your case - because once that situation happen and your WAP selected different IP for particular SSID, your authentication scheme will be completely different as second RADIUS IP provides different authentication/authorization rulebase. If that RADIUS IP change happen, all clients already connected to that SSID according rulebase of first RADIUS IP will be denied in few next minutes, because re-authentication will fail as now it will be done according rulebase of second RADIUS IP. Also new clients will not be able to connect which normally works for them.
In your case you should ignore global RADIUS settings and explicitly configure RADIUS IP inside each SSID (Virtual Access Point) - i.e. IP of RADIUS server which is only related to that SSID. In your scenario, there is no Backup RADIUS IP as both of them provides different authentication.

  • Mail constantly is synchronising with server and updating cache directory!

Mail constantly is synchronising with server (sent messages) and updating cache directory making everything slow.
I have a .mac account. I understand the concept of IMAP and that it information is stored on the server therefore it needs to update but surely not constantly and besides the blue bar sticks halfway through without completing. Please help.

I have had the same issue. Rebuilding fixes it temporarily, but it comes back....Also have an issue where Mail will not download attachments automatically. They show up in grey until they are clicked...have Mail set to download all messages and their attachments, but it doesn't want to. Very frustrating. I have begun the switch to Entourage, which is unfortunate, as I like Mail more.

  • How to best set up a mail and calendar server for a church

I am the IT guy for a smaller church of 200 regular attendees.  We want to start hosting our own mail and calendar server.  We bought a mac mini and installed mac os x server.  So far I have enabled the mail, calendar, and contacts sections of the server but we aren't live quite yet (domain is not pointed at the server yet).  My question is, I do not know much about profile manager or open directory, would those benefit me at all?  I do not wish to manage devices, I just want to make the most use out of the computer as a mail server primarily.  I have found some limitations on users and groups where I wish I could do more (such as creating mailing lists that include e-mails that are not hosted from within the server without creating a user that forwards to personal e-mail for every person).
Would open directory and/or profile manager add more functionality to the computer as a mail server?
    Thank you

    @camelot
What is it exactly open directory will give me that I cannot do with the regular software in this regard?  I am not sure what you mean by a signle shared mailbox and calendar.
    @cpragman
Google apps for business was something I was looking into at one point but decided not to use it.  Once we grow more I can see us moving over to it but with just maybe 5 people tops having a real e-mail address it seems a little overkill.  (I apologize, I omitted that from my original question, i only put in the number of attendees)
    @Lincdavis
Fortunately I don't care about whether they can create it themselves or not .  And your comment about creating a sharing-only user.  Do you mean for every external e-mail I want in a mailing list, I need to create a user for them (with services disabled) and then change mail options to forward to their personal e-mail?
Then go back to groups, create a group that can be e-mailed, and add those users to it?
    Thanks
