Mail and trash can

Whenever I delete messages, they do not show up in the trash folder in mail. They don't really show up anywhere. I have tried following previous posts about this, but still I'm having this problem. Am I deleting things wrong? I select the message and hit delete. Is it because I am using an imap server (AOL)? Please help. Thanks
Casey

I had a similar experience. Try this: go to Mail Preferences (Command+,). Then select Accounts. Under Accounts select the account you want to "fix." Then click on the "Mailbox Behaviors" tab. The third section down shoud be Trash with a check box for "Move deleted messages to a separate folder." This should be checked. You can also select how frequently you would like to erase deleted messages. Your deleted messages should now appear in the (Mail) Trash folder. You can "Erase deleted messages" from the (Mail) Trash whenever you want - or automatically.
Evidently if this is left unchecked, the messages you try to delete are just "grayed out" and appear to still be in your Inbox. This drove me crazy for about 6 hours today trying to figure out how to change it.

How do you delete mail and trash in OSX 10.9.2 without opening them.  I don't want to open suspect mail that might cause a problem.

I think you can just drag it to the trash folder.  Otherwise you have to select it and press delete.  If you have the preview window going, just selecting it will open it.  So you have to have the preview window closed.
    P.S.
I don't think you can get into any trouble just opening a message in Apple Mail.

In order to use your Apple ID to create an iCloud account, the primary email address associated with the ID must first be verified.  To do this, Apple will send a verification email to your account and you must respond to the email by clicking the Verify Now link.  Make sure you are check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.  If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

Hi I just created apple store account and I didn't get verification mail and I can't buy any games withou it. What should ii do?

If you already created an Apple ID, you have to enter a credit card in order to use that ID now. If you don't have a credit card at all, you will have to create a new Apple ID to use without a credit card and you will need to have another email address in order to do this.
First you will have to sign out of your current ID in Settings> iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. You can tap the ID and tap Sign Out. Now you can proceed with creating a new Apple ID according to the instructions in here.
Create iTunes Store account without credit card - Apple ...
You are saying that you don't have a credit card, but if you had one, you could enter the credit card in order to use the ID that you already created, but you never have to use it. You can use gift cards or just download free content. But unless you create the ID as outlined above, you must enter payment details.

    hello
The problem appeared two days ago is that I can't open my mail app. everything was fine and functional. Now I double click on the icon and it does not respond. it receives mail and I can see push notifications on the mail icon but when  I try to open it is no use. OS Y 10.10.2 (14C1514)

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Restart the computer. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. Any custom stationery that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to preserve that data. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I'm having the exact same problem on my iMac. I can receive email from imap.mail.yahoo.com, but cannot receive from smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I have not changed these settings in years and as of a few days ago they stopped working. These settings work fine on my iPhone and iPad.
    So far I have:
    -Deleted accounts and reestablished them
-Deleted the Mail preference file ->com.apple.mail.plist

My ipPod Touch is able to receive new mail and I can read it but I can't respond or forward.  The reply icon has disappeared.  I am also not able to compose a new message.  It's like the whole bottom line on the screen has disappeared.  Mail has worked fine until yesterday.  How do I get this capability back?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Mail>the accont and turn it off and turn it back on
    - Note the following will delete all mail already download on the iPod:
Go to Settings>Mail>the account and delete the account from the iPod and reenter the settings
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

A magnifying glass and search box show up in my e-mails and I can't read them unless I hit reply or forward. how do I get rid of the magnifying glass and search box?

    First, some clarification:
    * The location bar (often called the "awesome bar") is the larger bar on the left that shows you the address of the page you are currently viewing. As you type in the location bar it searches your history and bookmarks for matches.
    * The search bar is the smaller one on the right. It typically displays an icon of whichever search engine is currently selected and may display search suggestions as you type in it.
It sounds like you are referring to the search bar rather than the location bar. You can change search engines for the search bar by clicking on the icon on the left edge of the search bar and choosing a different one. You can also choose "Manage Search Engines" to remove ones you aren't interested in using.
It also sounds like Bearshare might have changed your homepage in Firefox. To restore that you will need to open the preferences menu (click Tools > Preferences), go to the General tab (first on the top left), and click "Restore to Default".

  • When in mail, i would like to move emails to different folders other than the inbox, sent and trash can a folder be created?

When in mail i would like to move my emails to a different folder on mail account other than the inbox, sent and trash options, can i  create a new folder?

The suggestion above is for MailBoxes on the Mac in the mail app and have nothing at all to do with the iPad. I think that you are asking about the iPad mail app.
You need to have an IMAP email account in order to create additional mailboxes on the iPad.
If you go to your email account in the Mail app and look at the window where your inbox, trash folder and sent folder are - if there is an Edit button at the top of the window - tap that and then tap Add Mailbox at the bottom.
If the Edit button is not there - you cannot create folders on the iPad. Your email account is not IMAP. Only IMAP email accounts can create folders on the iPad. Any folders that you would already have in an IMAP account would sync to the device as well.

  • Can someone confirm that "Sent" and "Trash" can hold more than 200 email?

Can some confirm that Mail on iPad/iPhone
can hold more than 200 email in the "Sent" and "Trash" folders, and that
setting "Show 200 Most Recent Msgs" affects only the size of "Inbox" ?
    Thanks in advance.
(The ISP offers only a POP server; no IMAP or MS Exchange.)

Check the bit rate for your songs. If 200 songs use up 7GB, they must be in a large bit rate format.
In iTunes, highlight a song and click on File/Get Info/Summary and check the Kind, Size and Bit Rate. Apple's figures for the number of songs on an iPod is based on a four minute song at 128Kbps.
I have a song in three different formats  in my iTunes Library. Notice the difference is Size for the different formats. The song is 3 minutes 55 seconds long.
Kind is AAC audio file. Size is 7.5MB. Bit Rate is 256Kbps
Kind is Apple Losslesss audio file. Size is 20.8MB. Bit Rate is 738Kbps.
Kind is AAC audio file. Size is 3.8MB. Bit Rate is 128Kbps
Notice the enormous difference. I believe the iTunes Store now sells MP3s in 256KBps format, wheras they used to be in 128Kbps MP3 format. For a given Bit Rate, the MP3 format is about the same size as Apple's AAC format.
So you will need to check several songs, because there will be a variety, I'm sure.

  • Mail and trash

    example
    file picture on desktop
i drag it to Mail in order to send new email
then i move the file from desktop to trash
now i want to empty the trash but i can't
    file in use
i have to close / exit from Mail app to empty the trash
it happens only with imac 10.6
it does't happen with my mcbook 10.5.8
    thanks

    Hmmm…try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and remove the com.apple.mail.plist file to your Desktop.
    3. Restart Mail and setup your account(s) again, then wait for Mail to import your existing messages. Then check to see if the problem is resolved. If it does fix the problem, you can delete the com.apple.mail.plist file on your Desktop.
Assuming Mail doesn't do this when you set it up, be sure to check the Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors panel and check the box labeled "Move deleted messages to a separate folder", then select "Quitting Mail" from the drop-down menu below that for the interval at which to erase those messages from the Trash.
