Mail and Yahoo e-mail

Whenever I delete an e-mail in mail, it doesn't get deleted from the actual account. I know this because they just show up as read when I go to yahoo.com to check my e-mail. Is there any way I can make them really become deleted?

This is very true...
Deleting messages from any program on your computer (Mail, Entourage, etc...) will only remove them locally, unless your e-mail account is IMAP.
IMAP accounts sync with the mail server, so you should see the same thing on your local computer as you do in your webmail. Whether you are deleting messages, or moving them from your inbox into a folder, your mail will look the same anywhere you view it.
Your Yahoo account is most likely a POP account, where performing an action on your local computer does not perform the same action in your webmail.
You can either opt to "Remove copy..." as Jim suggests, or you will have to go into your webmail account and delete/organize your mail there as well.
Be warned... if you choose to "Remove copy..." then you will NOT have copies of your e-mail in Yahoo when you go to check your webmail once it has been picked up by your local machine and removed from the server according to your selection.

  • Apple Mail and Yahoo Web Mail won't work when iPhone Email Active

It is interesting that when I have my iPhone email active, if I try to download messages to Apple Mail on a regular computer, I get the enter password screen over and over (password is already in the system) so I never get mail. Also when I have my iPhone active I get an error message on Yahoo Web Mail. When I turn off my iPhone email, I get access to both Apple Mail and Yahoo Web Mail. I have tested this on several occasions and it always happens like this. Would like not to have to turn off my iPhone email when I go to a regular computer to access Apple Mail or Yahoo Web Mail.

    dddog,
Are you accessing the Yahoo email or the email on your computer as POP3?
If so this article would apply:

  • Mail and Yahoo! Mail continually "refreshing"

I recently added my Yahoo! mail account to Mac OS X mail. The problem is that it is continually "refreshing". The wheen for the Yahoo! account never stops. None of the other mail accounts I have set up are having this issue so I'm pretty sure it is a problem with the Yahoo! account but I don't know if it is something in the settings on the Yahoo! end that I can and need to change, or if there is a setting on the Mac OS X Mail setting I can and should change. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have you solved it, and if so, how? Using 10.7/Lion.

Gmail, AOL, almost everything but Yahoo!. It ***** because I use my Yahoo! account for Facebook so that I get them in realtime on my phone but I can use it in Mail. This really aggravates me...a lot.

  • On my iphone4 i need to be able to use both TDS and Yahoo e-mail.  TDS works only sporadically.  For instance, today I was able to both send and receive, then an hour later could not send.  got the message that the server was not recognized.

On my iphone4 I need to be able to receive and send both TDS and Yahoo e-mail accounts (I also need to access from my Macbook Pro and my HP desktop).  I have NO problem with Yahoo, but with TDS, the e-mail seemed to work on my phone.... and then it didn't.)  In adding the TDS account, I chose "other" ( TDS is somehow accessed on the back end through gmail).  For the incoming server I used the Incoming Sever Name of pop.gmail.com and the Outgoing Mail Server as smtp.gmail.com.  I have using SSL "on" and the server port is 995.  Is this setup correct for TDS?

FYI: POP will by default, delete messages from the server after downloading them (This applies to most pop clients, computer or mobile). POP is old tech and is not recommended if IMAP or Exchange are available. The default when setting up a g-mail type account is IMAP. Full synchronization with the server. You may also be able to set it up as an Exchange account, allowing for push e-mail and sync of calendars and contacts as well. See the Gmail help pages for instructions.

  • Mail and Yahoo Mail

I use my Yahoo mail account as my email backup, but using Apple mail downloads all of the messages on the server and not just the incremental messages. How can I just download the incremental messages, but leave all messages on the Yahoo server?

If I'm understanding you right, what you're asking isn't possible. By default, Yahoo! Mail uses an IMAP server, so any device you use to look at your inbox will always see the same messages. What you're asking requires a POP server, in which messages live on the server until they're downloaded, at which time they're deleted or marked for deletion.
IMAP is considered the more modern protocol, which is why services like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail use it. Think of it as a window into your entire mailbox from any device ... while the POP protocol was more like a letter carrier bringing your mail to you. With POP, once the mail is on your computer, it's gone (or soon-to-be-gone) from the server.
This link explains it in more detail:
    http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/getting-gmail-anywhere-imap-versus-pop.htm l
It turns out you can configure Yahoo! Mail to use POP, but it requires a $20/year plus account:

I am unable to start or select the MAIL app. No incoming mail and no outgoing mail. I do not even know how to get an answer without email. Can you help?

Thank you Carolyn, How helpless you can feel without this App!
Going into the App Store as you suggest, I see 'thee updates available", the first says, 'X RESTART', the second says, 'Garage Band, an error has occurred" (in red), and the third 'Memory Clean, UPDATE'.
Am I correct in thinking that OSX is the problem, because it is waiting for a restart?
    Kind regards,

    Hello sstan114,
Great question! What type of email account are you using? Most email providers these days offer IMAP accounts (as opposed to POP). With IMAP, your changes should reflect across your devices (for example: if you read an email on your iPhone, it should be marked as read on your iPad). For more information about IMAP, see this resource:
    iCloud: IMAP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2585
In some cases, you may need to contact your Email provider or check out their online resources for information on how to setup your account as IMAP. The following article outlines some important information you’ll want to gather:

I moved to ICloud but on my main PC (IMac) I've lost all e-mails at Mail and cannot use Mail anymore as my regular e-mail. What do I have to do to synchronize with ICloud?

Please always post your system when you have a query - in this case it makes a considerable difference to the answer.
Is your system pre-Lion? Earlier systems are not compliant with iCloud but you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

  • When I open up a new mail in Yahoo! Mail, email addresses from previous mails stay on screen and block the "copy to" bar. How do I get rid of this?

When you are typing the addresses into a Yahoo! Mail, the browser helps you by suggesting people from your address book in a drop down box.
But when I've finsihed that mail and open up a new one, old addresses remain on screen and block the "copy to" box. You can't click on them or zap them, they are just fixed on screen.
Have had this probelm for a long time, through many Firefox updates and also having moved to a new Mac.

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • Iphone mail and yahoo

Problem: iPhone email icon won't open a working Yahoo account. Continuously asks for "password", and the working password (Yahoo opens on my iMac in the browser and on my iPad from the iPad Mail icon) is not accepted. The machine churns "verifying" and repeats the "insert password" message.
Yesterday I got a new 4S and gave my wife my 4; the Yahoo acct worked on the 4 via the mail icon, until the phone change
Backed up phones, restored the 4 (wife's new, my old) from the backup of her 3. Restored the new 4S from my 4 backup.
Everything is fine, except for the email problem. See above.
Have checked settings on all devices.

    SlowMow,
The beauty of having a Yahoo SB email is that it can also be configured using the Y! Mail preset option on your iPhone. Doing so allows you to take advantage of IMAP and "push" capabilities. In addition to my regular Yahoo/SBC email, I also have a Yahoo Business email account set up in this manner. Follow these instructions and you should be up and running shortly.
AT&T Yahoo! Mail provides push email service on the iPhone.
Push email will transfer email to the iPhone as soon as it received by the AT&T Yahoo! mail server.
To set-up your email account on iPhone:
    1. Go to Settings and select Mail.
    2. Select Add Account.
    3. Select Y! Mail.
    4. Enter your full AT&T Yahoo! SMB email address with @yahoo.com included.
For example, if the AT&T Yahoo! email address is [email protected], then the AT&T Yahoo! email address should be placed in front of the default @yahoo.com entry. The email address should be entered as [email protected]@yahoo.com.
Note: The @yahoo.com is already defaulted in the field and cannot deleted.
    5. Enter your password.
    6. Select Save.

  • Bt yahoo mail and yahoo plus

Hi, apologies if this has been asked but can anyone help with details of yahoo mail, yahoo mail plus and Bt yahoo etc.
I have used BT yahoo as my mail provider since signing up for broadband 2 years ago.  I now have thousands of important work related emails on there and only just realised that they do not back up.
Reading forums i can see that you need yahoo plus to enable you to backup your emails.
I just joined yahoo plus, well I paid £11.99 for it but not had confirmation yet and suddenly thought as I pressed the OK button is this the same as BT yahoo or have I paid for yahoo mail plus that has nothing to do with BT yahoo ???
My yahoo mail address is xxxx @ btinternet.com
1.Will I simply now go over to yahoo plus and all will work ok including backing up or am I in limbo with no backup.
    2. how do i back up, or will thgis become obvious
If this has been discussed previously I would asppreciate being directed to the correct forum.

Well thats another issue why I got Yahoo plus as I understood it that you cannot download Yahoo mail via windows live mail as it is not supported.
have you managed to save your BTinternet emails via windows live mail?
I am also currently experiencing problems with getting my btinternet email working with windows live mail, followed advice from forums about incoming and outgoing servers etc with no luck. I get my BTinternet account into Windows Live Mail but no emails in it.
I've been using Windows Live Mail for BT Yahoo mail ever since I bought a Win7 PC several months ago.  Prior to that, it was Outlook Express on Windows XP.
There is an intermittent flakiness about Yahoo's mail servers.  At the moment, they seem to be working OK.  However, they do go through patches where mail downloads will randomly fail, or will fail when you first connect.  This usually sorts itself out as WLM attempts to poll the servers for new mail every few minutes anyway.

  • Apple Mail Application and Yahoo! Mail -- Rebuilds Constantly

    Hi.
I am using the Apple Mac Mail client on my iMac and MBPR and connecting via IMAP to two different mail providers. One mail provider works perfectly.   Unfortunately, my Yahoo! mail box is very inconsistent in it's behaviour.
    1. Many times I try to delete a message and it comes back with an error message saying that the mesage can't be deleted.   I go and try a little later and it works.
    2. Probably even more annoying, is that it seems to get out of sync and has to rebuild the folder structure and download the entire mailbox from the server very frequently.   Yes, I do have many folders and some are big with 1000s of messages.   Is there a limit here, a known problem, or what.
Very frustrating not to have a seamless experience with the mail client and Yahoo!
Anyone have any insight into either of these issues.
    Thanks.

No insight, but I have the same problem with Mail.app (Mountain Lion) failing to stay in sync with my AT&T/Yahoo IMAP account. Very annoying. Makes Smart Mailboxes useless. I must constantly resync manually. I have no such problem with my old MobileMe account on iCloud.
I gave Apple some Mail feedback about this. I have no idea whether it is an Apple or AT&T/Yahoo problem.

  • How to sync SENT boxes from Mail and Yahoo Mail?

I have a Yahoo! mail acct. (it's actually a AT&T acct. with an sbcglobal.net domain name accessible through Yahoo mail). I access this acct. through Mail via POP at home, and at work I access it via web.
How can i get mail messages sent via Mail to show up when I access it via the web and vice versa? Is this possible?

There is one option and that is to use Mail's 'automatically cc (or bcc) myself' function, which you can enable from the Composing preference pane. Then you can set up a filter in Yahoo mail to move any message originating from your own address to another folder. Unfortunately, it doesn't let you move them to the regular Sent folder, but you can create a new folder called Sent Mail or something and move them there - at least then you'll have a copy.
N.B. that 'automatically cc myself' is a global preference, so it applies to all your accounts.
