Mail & AOL

I am actually posting this for my mom... She switched from PC to Macbook late last year. Ever since then, when she opens Mail, which is setup for her AOL account, several messages keep resending themselves until she Quits Mail (does not have to force quit). It is not the same emails that keep resending, but whatever is most recent; and it does this with more than 1 email, usually forwards (as it keeps adding "fwd" to the subject). She will get the resent messages in both Mail and on aol.com. She contacted the store she purchased it at and they did not know why this was happening. She later had to trade in this MacBook for a Pro (for another issue) and after using Time Machine to transfer data, it is doing the same thing. I use AOL on my MacBook and do not have any trouble with it. I am assuming there is something "stuck," but can't figure it out. We deleted her account in mail & re-entered it, but it kept doing the same thing

  • Mail, AOL, Stops Receiving

I have been having a chronic problem since upgrading to Tiger from Panther. Receiving mail automatically at intervals from AOL (hybrid IMAP) simply stops. It works for a while and then does not work. Even a manual click of the Get Mail button produces no results.
On my Powerbook with Panther, never any problem. I'll be sitting at my desk, and a couple of hours go by and no mail. I click on Get Mail and no mail. Then annoyed colleagues start IM'ing and calling because they have no response from emails I have not seen.
Usually, quitting mail and restarting the mail application solves the problems, albeit temporarily. Then 20 messges might appear.
I have been patiently waiting for a fix, but none arrives in Tiger updates.

    Steve,
Likewise. My mac.com mail comes into the Inbox normally, but my ISD account mail won't. Somehow the old Powerbook has been affected too!
As you say, 'Get Mail' produces no result.
After much wasted time and frustration I dumped the Account settings in Mail Preferences, and re-entered them.
That worked fine for about a week, but again, this weekend they stopped coming in, and working online is like watching grass grow.
    I've got a new Intel iMac 20", (I wonder whether there's a clash?)
so I can't try the old Outlook Express to see if that works; no other options.
There's a bug here, Mr Jobs!

  • Mail/AOL Mail Saved Message Nightmare

I set my boss up to use AOL's imap server to send and receive email through osx's mail application. He dragged all of his important messages to the saved folder. What happened next was strange. Although the folder is on the mac itself, the messages uploaded to somewhere, leaving the folder empty. I went on his regular account and checked the saved messages box and it was empty. AOL has no idea where they went if they are not in the saved folder on their ACS. I checked the computer itself and could not locate any of the mails. Has anyone else ran into this problem?
    G4Laptop   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Assorted tidbits that may or may not be of use to those following this thread:
    1. As of August 5, I was still able to save whatever emails I wanted to select from any Mail mailbox to the AOL "Saved" mailbox with no errors or disappearance problems of any kind whatsoever.
    2. As of approximately one month ago, I could with Mail.app also move any email I wanted from the AOL IMAP inbox to the AOL "Spam" mailbox. This is what some official AOL help documents indicate is the equivalent to using the AOL client app "Report Spam" button, so I assume this is, or at least was previously, officially supported with IMAP access to AOL email as the approved way to report spam when not using AOL client or web mail access.
2.a. At some point in the last ten days or so, I noticed this 'report spam' equivalent was not working properly with Mail.app. I don't know the exact date this started happening since I don't often have to use the feature, but what I do know is that as of ~ July 28, I started getting error messages similar to the ones we now see for moving messages to "Saved." So far, the error messages are all that happens with this -- IOW, there is no disappearance problem, only a refusal to accept any email into the "Spam" server folder via Mail.app.
    3. In Mail.app, using the menu "Copy to..." option for attempts to move messages into the affected AOL-based folders works very much the same as with drag & drop, except the existing copy is never deleted from the source mailbox, so I suggest this is a better way to test for the problem than by risking any messages you might want to save.
3.a. Using the copy option may initially look like it succeeds, even when it doesn't. In my case, messages copied to "Saved" sometimes did appear there in Mail's view even after opening the "Saved" mailbox view, which I assume from Mail's Activity window does cause some small amount of syncing. However, within 10 seconds to about a minute, the newly copied message still disappears, which I assume is due to some server-side problem a 'full' sync shows.
    4. Until AOL sorts out all the details of its "new" incarnation, It is probably best not to count on saving anything to its servers, even with the web mail interface.

  • Mail & AOL Address Books

I set up Mail and it is working fine. My only problem is that he combined all of the addresses in my two AOL accounts and these are now combined as a whole in each of the AOL accounts as well. So, I can access all of my contacts in each screen name, but I had set up separate different accounts with different addresses. Is this a common problem and how can it be rectified?

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you are asking about.
The Mail application does not include an Address Book.
The Mail application is integrated with the Address Book application, which is a separate application.
Are you referring to contact information in the Address Book application?
If so, the Address Book, or contact information available in the Address Book application is not accessed separately by each email account that is accessed with the Mail application. All email accounts accessed with the Mail application have access to all contact information in the Address Book application.

  • I lost connectivity from my mail aol account, and can not use mail to email, the email account is off line. What do I need to change to bring the account in line? The take accounts online function will not allow it to go on line

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, just confirming that you realize you can always access your AOL email account by going directly to www.aol.com from the Safari browser (or Firefox, Chrome, etc.) until you get the Apple Mail problem fixed.
If you cannot connect directly through a browser, it's quite possible that AOL is doing maintenance or having a temporary problem. It happens with surprising frequency to most online hosts. I usually check downrightnow.com, but AOL is not one of the services for which they collect trouble reports.
Reconnecting your Apple Mail to your AOL account:
In the Apple Mail menubar, click on the Mailbox, Get New Mail, and highlight the AOL account.
You should see the 'spinning wheel' next to the account name for a moment while your AOL mail is retrieved.
    That should successfully reconnect you.
Occasionally my ISP seems to corrupt a few packets and I'll get a message that all my external email account password are rejected, and asks me to re-enter them. Instead of re-entering passwords, I click 'cancel', and use this same procedure to re-connect.
NOTE: I'm on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, and Mail 4.5 (1084) but I believe the process to reconnect did not change since OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Cannot get incoming mail from my aol account on my iPad imap says incorrect username or password they both right tried hundreds of times

    Hello, Rileys128.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to receive mail on your iPad.  Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue with your AOL account.  I would also recommend checking with your email provider for security procedures such as two-step verification as this could cause this issue.

  • Cannot Send E-mail (AOL account) since iOS5 iPhone upgrade

I just recently upgraded to iOS5.  Since the upgrade I can no longer send AOL e-mail, but I am receiving it.  The message I keep getting is the recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

this is my problem also but not on AOL

  • Mail & AOL ... can't send

    Evening ...
I've been set up to send and receive mail on my AOL account via MAIL for months now without any issue. As of last, however I can no longer send mail. The server still delivers mail with no trouble but when I go to send I get ... "Cannot send message using the server ..."
The really weird part is that I had sent about 90 emails prior to that. I deleted all the info in my Preferences and reconfigured the account and nothing.
    Any ideas?

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
There are limits with many such providers on the number of messages you can send in some period of time, etc. It does not sound like you would have hit that, but the behavior sounds suspiciously like you have. See:
    http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/email-address-limit.html
Try to contact AOL and check this.

  • Cannot receive mail (aol)

Hello I just got my iPad and I set up my aol acct and it worked for a day but then it said it can't receive mail cause incorrect username or password I verified both plenty of times but to no avail, so I started messing with settings and I changed the server port from 993(standard) to 435 or something(don't ask why lol) and that obviously didn't work so I deleted my acct and tried to reset it up but now I can't even get past the part where it asks you for your password and email, description. When I enter that info and hit next it just says it cannot get mail incorrect username or password for "imap.aol.com". I've reset the iPad and all that basic stuff. Idk if it makes a difference but I never hooked up the iPad to a computer. I really don't know that's why I came to where the smart people are, any help is appreciated :-)

    Afternoon, KeyLady19!
Mail can be a tricky one, can't it? Aside from what you've already done there's a great how-to article that you may or may not have already reviewed for how to setup mail on the iPad:
iOS: Setting up an email account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4810
If that issue persists, the same article provides the following advice that might be pertinent:
Apple maintains a database of the most common email settings. These settings are automatically configured on your device during setup. If the database doesn't automatically configure the settings and you don't know them, please contact your email provider and gather the settings on this document.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities today.

  • Cannot get mail AOL or hotmail

I seem to be having a problem receiving mail from anyone with an AOL or hotmail address. The get MY mail, but I can't get theirs.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you are using the Mail application you will need the incoming and outgoing mail server names, your account user name and password and your email address. If you already have these settings setup you can use Connection Doctor in Mail (Window -> Connection Doctor) to check the status of your mail accounts.

  • Cannot get mail: AOL

I currently cannot receive/view incoming AOL mail. However, I can view it at aol.com using both Safari and 1A Perfect Browser. The error message is: "cannot get mail; the connection to the server "imap.aol.com" failed. The Wi-Fi is full strength at a public restaurant. Any suggestions?

Could it possibly have something to do with the SSL/secure server settings? What made me think of it is you said it was a public wifi. I don't know, just a thought.

  • Mail AOL Help

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with connecting my AOL account to Mail. Every time I add my account and put in the password, Mail says,
"Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can continue without a secured password, which could put your password at risk. Alternatively, you can manually set up your account."
I click continue and the box comes up again and I keep clicking continue.
Finally the Box will close and now I just have the Hazard Triangle next to my Inbox. I click that and it says Unable to Connect Server returned error: LOGIN FAILED. I'm sure I have the right password.
    Any ideas?
    ~Mike

    Hello again,
My ISP is Cabelvision not AOL. Sorry for not mentioning that. Next, I just got my laptop back from Apple after my Logic Board broke and many other things went wrong. Before I sent it in for repairs I had 10.5.8 and my Mail worked fine. When the laptop came back they gave me a new HDD and so I decided to just upgrade to 10.6 right when I got it. I did that yesterday. So now whenever I try to add AOL the same issue occurs. For some reason it will download all my Sent Items but the triangle remains near the Inbox and there is another triangle near the AOL (drop down)?. If I click on Saved or Sent Items, they load but the Inbox will not. If there is anything else you need to know just ask.
    Thanks again,
    Mike
Here are some of the Alerts.
    1. The following alerts are from the IMAP server for “AOL”:

    2. The following alerts are from the IMAP server for “AOL”:

Side Note: I really miss all my lost things. I didn't have a backup of anything because I switched that external HDD back to windows formatting so that the rest of my family could use it.

  • Cannot send Emails from AOL (Mail App) Only Recieve

For some time now i cannot seem to send emails from my AOL on the app (Mac Mail). I can receive ok, but not send. It remains in my outbox then a message appears:
Cannot send message using the server AOL
This operation couldn't be completed (MCMaiErrorDomain error 1030)
I then run the Connection Doctor:
I get a Green light for Incoming mail (AOL IMAP)
I get a Red light for outgoing (AOL SMTP)
    The message i get is:
'Trying to log in to this AOL SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct'
I have tried all the trouble shooting regarding checking the passwords, changing the passwords. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I can log on via the web ok and send and receive  . I believe it happened when i updated the computer some time back because my Macbook does the same now as well as this iMac.
In the Outgoing Mail Server SMTP it reads: AOL (Offline)
In the drop down i goto edit server and this is what is showing:
Description    Server Name     In Use By Account
    AOL                 smtp.aol.com      AOL
In the Advanced section i have Port: 587
    Box checked for 'SSL'
Box checked for 'Automatically detect and maintain account settings'
Box unchecked for 'Allow insecure authentication'
Any help would be much appreciated as this is becoming extremely frustrating
