Mail.app and CSS Style Sheets in HTML E-mails

Hi all,
Query. I recently began to get some e-mails from a blog site where the e-mail background is black (or very dark), with black font. Hard to read of course.
The background color appears to be getting set by a remote CSS style sheet, for which the URL is embedded in the HTML markup in the e-mail body. The background color is the same as the background color of the blog site.
Based upon communications with the site author and developer, it would appear that this is unique to Mail.app. They are not seeing this on their end in their e-mail clients.
When moving the same e-mail to a folder that syncs with Me.com, I can view the same e-mail online in the browser and a white background shows up, not the dark background.
Thus, it would seem that Mail.app is honoring the CSS style sheet, while other applications are not.
I do not see any obvious preferences in Mail.app to enable/disable this behavior.
Am I missing something, or is Mail.app doing something that other mail clients do not.
Thanks.

  • TextField and css style sheet

    I have TextField that is populated by an XML.-file, but no
    matter what I do, i cannot get the text to accept the styling from
    my style sheet. I have tried doing the styling with a Flash
    StyleSheet Object, with the same disappointing result. I would be
    so grateful if anyone had the time to look at my code and comment
    on it.
    This is the code in the fla. file:

    Thing is, that if you use content compression the outcome of the css can change. So the way to test this is to eliminate this variable by disabling the content compression. Then the css is bigger but there should no difference where you run the application. Once you have changed the css to your need (without the compression) you can turn the compression back on and it should work.
    MY advice would be to use the skin editor to alter the skin...

  • When I try to attach my css style sheet Dreamweaver gives me an error saying that my .css file appears to be an .html file and will not attach. How do I fix this so I can attach my style sheet?

    I have built a css style sheet in Dreamweaver. When I try to attach it to my html website, it prompts me that my "css file appears to be an .html file and cannot attach". I've tried removing the /* */ as suggested by other forums, but this has not resolved the issue. I was using css style sheets with no problem 2 days ago. Now I get that error message. How do I fix this so I can attach my style sheet?

    What does the code of the CSS file look like?
    An external CSS file needs to be written in CSS only (no html tags like <html>, <body>, <head>, etc ).
    It also must have a .css file extension, if yours has a .html extension it won't work.

  • Trying to add css style sheet to an old-fashioned html file.

    I have several old html files that I have worked on regularly for the last 25 years.  I recently recognized the value of separate css style sheets.
    I set  up the old html files in separate folders like this -
    _css
    _images
    _notes
    _scripts
    .htaccess
    index
    profile
    the _css folder contains a file named style.css which looks like this -
    @charset "utf-8";
    /* CSS Document */
    <style type="text/css">
              h1 {font-size:250%; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; color: #66FFFF; text-align:center;}
              h2 {font-size:120%; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; color: red; text-align:center;}
              p {font-size:100%; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; color: #EEEEEE;}
    </style>
    <body style="background-color: #55035F";
    I open the index file with DW. -  I click on "class" at the bottom of the page. -  I click on "attach style sheet." -   it shows file/url: as "_css/style.css" -  I click on "OK" -  it says "file _css/style.css appears to be an html file and cannot be opened as css"
    I copy the contents of style.css onto a new blank css file and save it as a css file.
    I go through the same routine and the same thing happens over and over again.

    You need a proper CSS document.  CSS files cannot contain any HTML code.
    @charset "utf-8";
    /* CSS Document */
    <style type="text/css">
              body {
                   background:#55035F;
                   font-family: "Comic Sans MS", "Comic Sans MS5", cursive;
                   font-size: 100%;
              h1 {font-size:250%; color: #66FFFF; text-align:center;}
              h2 {font-size:120%; color: red; text-align:center;}
              p {color: #EEE;}
    </style>
    <body style="background-color: #55035F";

  • Css style sheet not linking

    I am fairly new to dreamweaver and css. I have created an
    html page and I created an external css style sheet for it. When I
    preview it in my browser, it works, but when I FTP it and check the
    site on the server, the html page doesn't "refer" to the css page
    that I created. I checked my remote view of the server, the style
    sheet is there and the source for the web page says that it should
    be refering to it.
    Here's the link to my page. It's a school project. I only
    have the first page created for it so even tho there are rollovers,
    there are no pages linked them, so just ignore that.
    http://alliterationstudio.com/silverspark/index.htm
    if you go to the main page on my site
    http://alliterationstudio.com
    you will see that I have a couple of other projects up there too.
    If you go look at the arts and crafts page you will see that it has
    a style sheet that links just fine to it, and I created it in the
    same way. I'm at a loss here, since I'm really new to this web
    design stuff.
    BTW, I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004 right now. I'll upgrade as
    soon as I get my new computer, but either way, I don't think that
    using an earlier version of the software is what is creating the
    problem, right?
    Thanks for the help,

    http://alliterationstudio.com/silverspark/silversparkstyle.css
    returns a
    403 (Forbidden) error. An imaginary stylesheet whose name I
    entered
    returned a 404 (File not found). In the other project which
    had an
    external stylesheet, there was no problem. So - it sounds
    like a
    permission issue on silversparkstyle.css. I'm not sure if
    MX04 has a
    file permissions 'thing' built in; if not, you'll either have
    to get an
    FTP client which does file permissions (FileZilla for Windows
    http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/
    does), or use a terminal app (SSH, like
    putty, in preference to Telnet) to log in and change the
    permissions.

  • Safari 5.0.3 not loading CSS style sheets 1st time through

    When I go to my ecommerce site's https payment screen, the page HTML loads OK but the formatting is missing (so the screen is really messed up). If I hit the page re-load function the page re-loads with all the formatting corrected. It behaves the same with both the Mac and Widows versions of Safari 5.0.3. The problem did not occur on earlier versions of Safari (i.e., the Mac I use for testing the site worked perfectly on the now problematic page until I upgraded to the latest version of Safari).
    The problematic page works fine with all the other browsers that I have tried (IE7, IE8, Firefox, Chrome)
    My guess is that it has something to do with some @import url("css style sheet") directives that are imbedded at the beginning of the master style sheet for the page.
    This problem will stop all Safari 5.0.3 users from navigating our site so it is quite serious.
    Any help on this issues would be greatly appreciated.

    Further investigation has revealed that the following error message is being generated within Safari during the first time the that the page is loading,
    "Refused to load from document base URL. URL found within request."
    The <base> directive in the HTML, in this instance, is referring to a different URL than the one that the page is running from. The page with the problem is running on a remote server and back referencing to the home server for the <base> reference. This fails when the page first loads but seems to be accepted if a page-reload is done. It also works on all other browsers that have been tested.
    Is this related to a security setting in the browser?

  • CSS Style Sheet Link Recursive Error?

    I am trying to link a css style sheet to a new root file. When I try to link the css sheet I get an error - A recursive style import was found while trying to add Check Magazine.css. Please resolve this error by editing the file in an external text editor and try again.
    What does this mean?  I looked up recursive style everywhere and there is no explanation.  I don't know how to fix.  The answer I found on these forums mentioned an @import statement error but I dont even have any @import statemensts in my style sheet this style sheet is part of the Getting Started tutorial on this website.

  • Automatically attaching CSS style sheets to new documents

    I wanted to alert everyone to a great new Community article published by Adobe Community Expert David Powers. The article details how to attach CSS style sheets automatically when you create new documents.
    Here's the article:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/505/cpsid_50564.html
    This handy option is easy to miss, especially if you don't use the New Document Dialog box to create documents, so big thanks to David for highlighting this.
    Furthermore, the appearance of such an article is a great example of how Community content can interact and live symbiotically with Adobe Help. We've linked directly to David's piece from our documentation, and this is indeed a great thing because David is able to go into much more detail about the process of automatically attaching style sheets than we are able to do in Help:
    Create a blank page
    Create a page with a CSS layout
    If you're interested in publishing Community articles of your own, you can download the Community Publishing AIR application and get right to work!

    Can I ask why?
    David's excellent standard should be the minimum standard for Help files.
    The quality of software manufacturers' Help (not just Adobe) has deteriorated greatly over the past decade - to the point where it's now my last resort for learning.
    Software manufacturers seem to tacitly rely on 3rd party book authors (such as David's brilliant material), bloggers and online tutorials to explain their products these days.
    I'm happy not to have a printed book with my software any more because they were always out-of-date and hard to update. However the quality of PDF and online Help docs is so poor and sparse for my use that I prefer to get my answers by Googling, visiting forums or buying the occasional book.

  • Link style sheet to .html file?

    Hey dreamweaver community i'm really new to dreamweaver but have a slight grasp.
    But i am creating a website (ethicistbeats.com). I have a design by using a css. style sheet and everything looks good in dreamweaver safari preview (on a mac), but when i upload it to my ftp client my designs/ format of my page does not show up, at all.
    If you guys could reply and try to help me out that would be cool. i tried talking to one pf my friends who took a class on html code, but he couldn't help me.
    Anyways, thanks in advance.
    If you guys need more info about code and stuff i'll gladly upload it. Just again i'm new to this so i don't really know much... i just dove into dreamweaver like a need a webpage, not much help, but my site wasmade from a template - not sure if that helps.
    Peace.

    Unfortunatly, you have quite a mess on your hands.  First you have embedded css above the external style sheets, which takes away one of the big advantages of embedded css, namely to override any rules in the external style sheet.
    <style type="text/css">
    .A {
         color: #E12000;
    .b {
         color: #000;
    </style>
    But that is peanuts to the other probelms,
    Your style sheets are not css files, they appear to be an html file.  To create an external style sheet, go up to File | New | CSS and a new CSS blank file will be created.  Paste your css rules into it.
    You have
    <link href="http://www.ethicistbeats.com.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    While I suppose you could link using an absolute link, I dont see an advantage,
    but it would be more like
    <link href="http://www.ethicistbeats.com/stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    a better way would be
    <link href="stylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    This is not a style sheet, but another html file.
    <link href="Index.html.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    Take whatever css is in the files and put them into a new css file.
    Start there, but there is more work to do.

  • How to attach a CSS style sheet ?

    Hi,
    How to attach a CSS Style sheet to a portal page ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jean-Christophe

    For a standard Portal page you should use the Portal styles and associate them to a page. These effectively generate a CSS style sheet anyway if you view the HTML source of a rendered page in your browser.
    Using the correct PDK APIs you effectively reference the CSS tags in your Java or PL/SQL code.
    If your portlet need to open a page in a new window you can no longer reference the Portal page style as the CSS style sheet does not get attached.
    In this situation, code your HTML as normal and reference your CSS style sheets as normal.
    If you create you CSS sheet you can store it in a page as a file and access using the direct access URL like I showed you in a previous response regarding the storing of images.
    Cheers,
    John

  • Why do I have two of the same CSS style sheets on my page?

    I created my index page using a 3 column layout, and I brought in one of the sample css style sheets.  Now I have 3 css style sheets for my page:
    1)  thrcolfxdhdr.css
    2)  samplegreenyellow.css (I changed the name of the sample)
    3)  level3_3.css
    The last two have all the same .header .footer, etc.
    When I make a change in #2 it doesn not change anything on the page.
    When I make a change in #3, it does make a change.
    Do I need both.  Right now I am making every change twice!  Can I delete one?  If so, which one?
    Thanks.

    To see if you can do without one of the stylesheets, go to the head of your document (not the stylesheet) in Code View.
    Find one of the link statements (<link href=...etc.) and 'comment it out'. If your page functions without it, you can safely remove the link from your page. If you lose some styles but not all, you will need to spend a little more time with it.
    If your two stylesheets are actually identical, you can remove one with no harm done. Also remove the link and delete the stylesheet itself.
    If there are slight differences (you can find them by viewing them both in Code View, Tile Vertically in the Window menu), add the differences to one of the stylesheets and then delete the other.
    You might be able to compare the two stylesheets quickly in the CSS Styles Panel (but not with either link commented out) while your html page is open, but you won't see details side-by-side there.
    To answer your question (in passing!), the reason you did not see changes in your page when you changed Stylesheet #2 is because Stylesheet #3...called after Stylesheet #2...cancelled out all the changes you had made in Stylesheet #2. Then when you made changes in #3, they were NOT cancelled out by #2 because #3 came AFTER #2 in being called. Precedence is what the Cascade is all about.

  • Very strange problem! Disappearing Css Style Sheets plus 404's

    I am creating a fairly simple form and am new to php mysql and jquery. However, I am moderately skilled in css and html.
    I am on a mac with Snow Leopard using dreamweaver CS5. The problem started this morning when I uploaded a preliminary version of my html form page and a php script page.
    Having previewed it with no problems on my local system, I thought my main challenge would arise from stumbling my way through ironing out the scripting. I still have that to look forward to.
    The first anomaly that occurred was that I kept getting 404 errors. After hours of tinkering around and uploading many trimmed down modified variations of the html file, I finally got past the 404 error page.
    However, it only would appear without my css styles. The file was originally linked to a previous css style sheet and is linked to a new one on local system.
    After doing some firebugging, I discovered that my newly uploaded (20 times) html file was still linked to the previous phantom, css style sheet on the server as well as a previous php file that I had linked to in development stages.Both of which are not on the server. So I uploaded the whole bunch of them again and got the same result. Nothing changed. All the css styles are still there but not.
    I know what you're thinking, it's impossible.
    The only explanation I can come up with is that my linux apache server is putting my files in a nonexistent temp folder. And for some reason the my site.css file is not being overwritten or removed at all.
    I then uploaded new versions of the html file with different names, thinking on an off chance that the file name 'contactform' might have something to do with the problem.
    You know what happened the newly named files triggered a 404 once again.
    It doesn't make since to me! I am totally stumped!
    My site is http://www.zoeinjewels.com and the page in question is http://www.zoeinjewels.com/contactform.html
    I am really behind schedule so your help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

  • In Pages 09 we can do Mail Merge and Import Styles from a document. Can someone please explain how we can do this with the new version of Pages 5.1. Even Apple solutions are only valid for Pages Version 09. What a DOWN GRADE!

    …and the other 98 missing features.
    Just use Pages '09, which should be in your Applications/iWork folder.
    Rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • CSS Style sheet not working in DW4

    I am new to Dreamweaver CS4 and have been following the tutorials for Beginners on Adobe TV.
    I have used a Standard Layout, 2 columns, Header, Footer, Sidebar.
    I have created and saved the CSS Style Sheet as suggested in a folder with the CSS panel.
    I have made changes to the web page with CSS and can see the changes in Design View on my screen.
    However, when I view my trial site in a browser, none of the Style changes are visible. Looking at the XHTML code,
    the path to the CSS Style Sheet appears to be correct. What am I doing wrong?
