Mail App: Annoying repetitive asking for password

Since Snow Leopard Mail App is regularly asking for the keychain password. This is annoying for a machine where only me is sitting in front of. I would not be against, if it is asking once upon startup of the app, but not every interval of fetching the mail.
Is it possible to deactivate this security? When not in a GUI, no problem for me to do it in the Terminal

When trying to download Apps, ipad keeps asking for password. Correct password given but has no effect and box requesting password input appears again.

Try downloading something in the iTunes app on the iPad and see if that gets you out of the password loop that you are stuck in.

  • I changed my apple id, but in apps store when asked for password,  original apple id appears so password doesn't work wit it.  Now can't buy apps.

I changed my apple id, but now in apps store when asked for password, it listed my original apple id which password will not work.  How to get apps store to recognize changed apple id?

f you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the device by tapping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

  • HT1430 I cannot get yahoo mail.  The message asked for password for yahoo many times.

In order to use Yahoo! Mail, please turn Private Browsing off. Please go to Settings » Safari » Private Browsing, and turn it off
I cannot get yahoo mail nor send email on iPad 3.  I have OS 6 just upgraded.  It keeps on asking for password.  I think my yahoo email was also hacked to compound the problem.  Please help.

I get this warning now To. Never saw it in last 5 years and 4 iPhones. Cannot get yahoo small biz email access anymore via iPhone on safari web login because of this same warning. Typically , either yahoo or apple screwed up and changed something that effects millions and think nothing of it. (battery gate in all the iPhone 4/4s comes to mind here)
As you can tell I "used" to be an apple fan but after this iPhone 4s dies (prematureally of course) I will be getting my first android phone and see flash and the rest of the hidden Internet that apple kept from myself the paying customer.

  • HT1277 Can't sync my icloud with mail... always ask for password

Can't sync my icloud with mail... always ask for password

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Snow Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
The situation with iCloud and Snow Leopard is described in detail here:

  • Mail in Snow leopard asking for password

Having bought the new i-mac and receiving snow leopard, mail is constantly asking for already saved passwords.
Is there a quick fix to this problem?
    Cheers.

Okay. In that case do the following:
Disable automatic mail checking preference in your Mail application. Log into your mail provider's webmail interface. Change your password to something else. Log out. Give it about 15-20 mins then check your mail via mail app. You will get error, so now put in the new password and check the box to remember in keychain. After a while check mail again and see if the problem goes away. If you like, you can then change back to your original password following the same procedure.

  • Mail 7.0  keeps asking for Password on restart

Only Mail keeps asking for my iCloud password. I have entered it into the password box (in Account Information, incoming server), and it seems to take it, but it empties everytime I close the window, and reopen it.
This didn't happen before Mavericks. ICloud works fine, as do all the iWork apps. They have no problem getting to iCloud. It's just Mail that does for some reason.
    Any ideas?

  • Mail App randomly re-asks Gmail passwords (all devices)

    Hello all
I have a MBPr 13" Late 2012 (OSX 10.9.2 all updates installed) an iPhone 4S and an iPad 2 (both with ios 7.1), I use two Gmail account on MPB and iPhone and only one on iPad. I added the second GMail account on MBP and iPhone about 3 weeks ago. At the same time I set same account on iPad as the only acccount since I use this only for work.
It's about a week that Mail App randomly stops connecting to my Gmail accounts and asks again the password for one or both of the account. This on all devices. It may happen for instance that iPhone and iPad works fine, and on Mac I have to redigit the password. Or MBP and iPad works fine and iPhone aks the password. Or for a while all of them woks. To make it short, the malfunctioning seems to be random, using Wi-Fi, 3G, at home, at work, in the car.... in the morning, at evening...
Also if I don't care to digit again the password and I click on Cancel in the dialog box, after a while may happen the connection starts work fine again.
It seems to me that the problem is on Gmail Server, I don't know may be Gmail updated the services and Mail App needs an update, or big G is making a sort of maintenance?
Or maybe Mail App doesn't turns unstable with 2 gmail account?
I don't know... I wrote to ask some advice and to query if this is happening only to me, or someone else is experienced same problems.
    Thanks

With IMAP, all mail syncs across multiple platforms. IOW, if you've read a message on your Blackberry, for example, it will show as having been read on your Mac, too — and vice versa. *With POP, you would see all messages as new on all platforms, no matter whether you've already seen them on one of them.*
GMail, however, has its own interpretation of how things should be, and what they call IMAP isn't exactly what everyone else understands it to be. ;S
Not true. The POP protocol deletes the email from the email server when it is downloaded to your email client, unless you specifically set your email client to leave a copy of the downloaded email on the server. So by default the popped email is only available on the first device to pop it.
What is GMAIL's interpretation of IMAP? IMAP and POP are email protocols not GMAIL interpretations.

  • Mail account continues to ask for password

My Mail application, on both my MacBook Pro (with Lion) and Power PC G5 (with Leopard) continues to periodically ask for the password for my Yahoo (set up as IMAP) account.  My three other accounts, including iCloud, operate correctly.  I do have the password saved in the account information under Preferences. What is going on with this account?

Thanks.  I tried the Keychange update with no success.
The problem is happening on both Macs, so it likely isn't a keychain issue on one Mac.
The Mail message I receive is:   "The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user [XXXXXX]."
I have separatelly tried logging into my Yahoo account, and do get in with no problem.
    Other thoughts?

  • Have deleted a Yahoo account from Mail but it keep asking for password

My Mail on the iMac has several email accounts for my wife and I, we have recently deleted my wifes Yahoo account because of spam mail, as well as deleting it through Yahoo, the email account in Mail was removed. Ever since we have been receiving prompts for the password to the deleted account. I have checked through preferences and there is definitely no reference to the account. Is there something else I need to delete?

thanks mende1 - I have lion and have checked as you have mentioned above - the email account is not listed there - it's still asking for the password though

  • Mail on MBA keeps asking for password

I have mail on my MBA, and iPad (Gen1).  The iPad is rock-solid, but on my MBA I keep getting asked for my password.  I have multiple mail accounts (incl Gmail and iCloud) but it is only my 2 work accounts that I get bumped out of all the time.  This might happen 10-20 times a day, and then not happen for a month or two.
One of my colleagues told me 'you have multiple devices checking email and some programs not releasing the login after checking mail (iPad), a timeout or error is given during checking of email and hence a password prompt comes up because authentication failed.'
Appreciate any assistance on this one!

If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
    Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
    Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
    Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked.

  • Wrong email address on app store when asking for password

    Hi.
I have the Iphone4 and today I was offered 4 updates for my apps. 3 downloaded but the Paypal update didn't. I then tried to update the Paypal app and the Iphone asked me to put my password in. I entered it but it said the password was wrong. I then noticed that the email address that was displayed wasn't mine, it was my house mate's.
When I go into settings and look at the app store settings I am logged in as me. I tried logging out and back in again but it still does it. If I download another app it just does it without asking for a password so I can't see if it's just Paypal.
Can anyone help me please? I'm really confused.
    Thanks

    Hi.
I just worked it out then came on here to update to say I no longer need help and you're right.
Basically he had the paypal app on his phone and backed them up on the pc. Then he synced my phone for me and accidentally put paypal on which was obviously his app.
    Thanks for your help anyway.

  • Mail (gmail account) constantly asking for password

    Hello,
    My wife has a 3gs
She originally setup her mail using the phones built in gmail account step by step method. While using this, her phone was constantly saying it could not access the gmail server.
So, I setup her mail with gmail using the google sync/Exchange method.
Now it is constantly asking her for her gmail password. When you enter the password, nothing happens and it asks again. The problem seems to be intermittent.
I have a 3g iphone setup the exact same way, and I have never had either of these problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Here's the deal, because of spammers, especially automated computer spammers google uses what is called a captcha lock to block smtp for your account until you prove you're human, and the account owner, and not some computer spammer. The lock can be triggered by the mere fact of setting up your gmail account on a mobile device, like the iphone. Computers, generally, can't read the captcha code, only a human can read it & enter the code correctly. Same reason that when using wifi, other than when at home or at your place of business you may find you can receive email, but can't send. Most wifi providers block all smtp in an effort to stop spammers. Sad, but you can blame spammers for this.

  • Mail 4.4 repeatedly asks for password with OSX 10.6.6

We have a Verizon internet access and use Mail 4.4 with OSX 10.6.6. On a regular basis we get asked to reenter our password for incoming mail.
Is there anything that can be done to make the two compatible?

    HI:
I was having all kinds of problems with Mail passwords a couple of days ago, but I attributed it (correctly) to my mail provider (AOL).
You could try trashing the preference file, restarting (com.apple.mail.plist), and then entering your personal preferences.  Do back up first if you decide to do this.
