Mail app bcc
Hello, is there a way to change what address is bcc'd automatically on an iPad? Right now it, via the general setting, it only allows you to bcc yourself, however, I have a single email account I use to aggregate all of my email and I would like this account to be the automatic bcc recipient of my four other mail accounts on the iPad. Also, it would be nice to have a feature that will let you confirm the sending address prior to dispatching the message, sometimes I accidentally send messages from the wong account.
Thanks.

I think the simple answer is no. There is a workaround, but I think it just moves the difficulty from one place to another. You could change your default account to this "consolidated" account, and that should bring up the bcc to that account. But if you create any email, you'll have to click on the "From" and change the account to whatever one you want it to be. But I'm not sure that's much easier than clicking on the bcc and changing the account there.

BCC will not show recipients in Mail app - for IMAP client user
Our office iMac was just upgraded to Mavericks. The Apple mail app (which we use via IMAP to receive our gmail) will not show BCC recipients on sent mail. Not sure what other info you might need.
Yes it did work prior to Mavericks upgrade --lots of other quirks that are just user preference issues but this is by far a concern because we need to keep track of school sent emails. So far the only solution has been to use the gmail client via web interface -- hoping there is a different solution!
Thanks for any help
Joanne Bartolotti
ST Robert School
San BrunoJohn -- Thank you for your reply.
When we send the email we (our user end) can see the recipients in the BCC field (good)
When the email is delivered they (the recipient) cannot see all the other emails (good)
"Susie" (who was on our original BCC list as a recipient) calls and says I did not get the email - We go to our sent folder and click on the sent email to verify the email address we used but (and here's the issue) it says "No recipients"
Prior to installing OSX Mavericks -- it listed ALL the recipients in our sent folder copy of the email (this was very helpful to us)
To date the ONLY solution has been to use the web version of gmail -- My question is (and please know I have done a number of checks on this process) Why did it work BEFORE upgrading to Mavericks and why does it not work NOW? Our school secretary is convinced it is "my fault" for upgrading the system -- I am convinced there is a user error since she NEVER lists anyone in the TO field
She will NOT use the web interface because it takes "too much time" -- for this my response is -- then fix it yourself! (Sorry 10 days left of school -- tech coordinator frustration creeping in -- tired of id10t erros -- should have waited to upgrade until no one was around and NOT tell them!)

How can I disable my MobileMe account as sender in the iOS Mail app?
Ever since I logged on to iCloud in OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.0, 10.8.1), I've noticed that in Gmail (using the Mail app for iOS), on my iPhone running iOS 5.1.1, the sender appears to be my MobileMe account (an account I had to use a while back when I first got started using iCloud, but haven't actually used).
Besides flooding my iCloud account mail information with sent mail and the fact that I don't want people associating my email address with the wrong address, it's very annoying that when I choose my regular Gmail address as the sender mail, the next time I send an email, the MobileMe address is the default address yet again.
The problem persists even though I have:
Disabled the iCloud email account (@me.com) in the Mail app in OS X Mountain Lion (the OS in which, by all accounts—no pun intended—it all started).
Disabled iCloud to use and sync Mail.
This is the settings for Gmail in Mountain Lion, in which disabling Mail and the MobileMe account for use, should be the only email address associated with my iCloud account (excepts it obviously isn't as MobileMe is tied to my AppleID for whatever purpose Apple saw fit back in the day):
I saw a thread here discussing the posibility of deleting the iCloud account on the iPhone, powering it off and then, when powered back on, simply signing in again with iCloud. I'm nor sure this is a "solution" as much as a way around something I cannot understand is happening in spite of the changed I have made already.
Surely, someone must be able to tell me what I can do to simply not have my @me.com email address set to the default From address in Mail in iOS. Other than that, I have no real problem with the @me email address being used, at all.
It's just so annyoing when trying to send a quick reply to a colleague or something.
Please discuss below.I feel funny replying to myself; I cannot remove this discussion and at any rate, I guess if someone else has this problem, they'll be pleased it has not been deleted.
So, I managed to fix this all on my own. Obviously the difficulty-level is about as low as it gets:
After updating to iOS 6 last night, I was playing around in the settings of my phone, when I came across this, the iCloud for Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calandars > Accounts > iCloud:
All I had to do was to turn Mail off. This leaves the Cc/Bcc, From field empty in my phone's Mail app--just the way I wanted it! -
Mail.app crashes while trying to change layout
Mail 2.0.5 crashes every time I try to change the layout of the "new message" window.
When I'm going to create a new message you can see on the left side of the "account" line a symbol (three little lines and an arrow down). With this option field you can show/hide the lines for "BCC"-recipients an "Reply-To". And you can choose to show/hide several other buttons/symbols when clicking on "modify" (I'm using the german version which shows the word "Anpassen".
When I try to reach these advanced options mail immediately crashes. The crash log is quite long.
Does anyone hav an idea?
Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone,
I have bought this week an new mac air 13 inch and i am exploring the great mac software.
But i haven some issues with the mail app from apple regarding usage with Gmail
I'm trying to translate in english because i am dutch so dont attack me when it is wrong written.
In Gmail i am using two different outgoing adresses the first one is [email protected] and the other one is my work adres i pay for the usage off gmail because i want everything from one account or application.
When i use the email app in yosemite and let it communicate with the gmail servers everything works but i cannot select from which adress i want to send an email like xxx@kpnmail or my work email.
So i have read almost everything on the net but i cannot find what im looking for so maybe that you guys can help me out to sorten this out and then i am an very happy person.
if you speak/write dutch thats perfect but english may alsoHi Vincent 76,
If you are not seeing the options I mentioned above, check the settings that you have in the Mail Preferences for each email account:
The image below is from the Help Menu within the Mail application. It shows the button to the right of the Send button that you can click on to add fields like Reply To, CC or BCC. The From field is shown in this diagram, so I'm not sure why you are not seeing it.
Write and send messages
When you want to write or reply to a message, Mail opens a new window where you can add recipients, text, photos, and more, before sending your message.
Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19178
Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences
Change Mail settings
Use Mail Preferences to set or change options for the email accounts you use in Mail, and for working with messages and mailboxes. Choose Mail > Preferences, then click a preference pane to view options:
General: Change settings that range from how often to get messages, to the kinds of messages to include when searching for messages in Mail.
Accounts: Add, delete, and disable your email accounts in Mail. Use the Mailbox Behaviors pane to control how draft, sent, junk, and deleted (or “trash”) messages are stored. The Advanced pane includes options for messages, attachments, and more.
Junk Mail: Enable the junk mail filter and change settings to improve it.
Fonts & Colors: Select the fonts and font sizes used to display messages.
Viewing: Change settings to control how messages are shown in the Mail window.
Composing: Change settings for spell checking, and for addressing and replaying to messages.
Signatures: Create signatures and have them automatically appended to all of your messages, or use them in only some messages.
Rules: Create rules to do things like have messages from a certain person automatically moved to a mailbox, or highlight messages about a birthday party.
To learn about the options in a pane, click the Help button at the bottom of the pane.

Applescript Mail.app to add attachment to a reply
I am writing some scripts to automate my e-mail workflow, and part of it relies on replying to a message with some revised files attached.
Problem is, Mail.app doesn't seem to allow Applescript to include attachments to replies, only to new outgoing messages.
So, this works:
set mailAttach to alias "somefile"
tell application "Mail"
set listSelectedMail to selection
set selectedMail to last item of listSelectedMail
set replyMail to make new outgoing message
activate
tell replyMail
set visible to true
make new attachment with properties {file name:mailAttach} at after the last paragraph
end tell
end tell
...while this doesn't:
set mailAttach to alias "somefile"
tell application "Mail"
set listSelectedMail to selection
set selectedMail to last item of listSelectedMail
set replyMail to reply selectedMail with reply to all
activate
tell replyMail
set visible to true
make new attachment with properties {file name:mailAttach} at after the last paragraph
end tell
end tell
Is it really the case that Applescript can't add attachments to replies, or am I overlooking something?
Of course I could just make a new message adding "Re:" to the subject, but I want to keep the quoted contents of the message I am replying to.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
Cheers,
JeffHi Jeff,
The following script seems to work pretty well (at least with the default preferences of Mail):
set mailAttach to POSIX file "some POSIX path" as alias
tell application "Mail"
set listSelectedMail to selection
set selectedMail to last item of listSelectedMail
set replyMail to reply selectedMail with opening window and reply to all
tell replyMail
set theTO to {name, address} of to recipients
set theCC to {name, address} of cc recipients
set theBCC to {name, address} of bcc recipients
set theSubject to subject
end tell
activate
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "acw" using command down
set theMessage to make new outgoing message
tell theMessage
make new attachment with properties {file name:mailAttach} at the end
set {theNames, theAddresses} to {item 1, item 2} of theTO
repeat with k from 1 to (count theAddresses)
set {theName, theAddress} to {item k of theNames, item k of theAddresses}
if theName is missing value then set theName to ""
make new to recipient with properties {name:theName, address:theAddress}
end repeat
set {theNames, theAddresses} to {item 1, item 2} of theCC
repeat with k from 1 to (count theAddresses)
set {theName, theAddress} to {item k of theNames, item k of theAddresses}
if theName is missing value then set theName to ""
make new cc recipient with properties {name:theName, address:theAddress}
end repeat
set {theNames, theAddresses} to {item 1, item 2} of theBCC
repeat with k from 1 to (count theAddresses)
set {theName, theAddress} to {item k of theNames, item k of theAddresses}
if theName is missing value then set theName to ""
make new bcc recipient with properties {name:theName, address:theAddress}
end repeat
set the subject to theSubject
set visible to true
end tell
delay 1 -- adjust if necessary
tell application "System Events"
key code 124 using {command down} -- ⌘→
keystroke return
keystroke "v" using command down -- ⌘V
key code 126 using {command down} -- ⌘↑
end tell
end tell -
Hi Guys,
Generally i receives loads of email on my office email address but on my phone, i just want to see the only emails where i am in either To or CC. I didn't find option in iphone Mail app to create rules/filters. so i tried workaround. I create a seperate directory named "important" in my pc outlook and configure rule that will send copy of email where im in To or CC to that directory. Now on phone i only want to sync this important directory and not inbox and other directories. The problem is i can't uncheck the inbox.
Can you help me on this or advise my any other workaround.
RegardsYou receive that many emails when the sender places your email address in the Bcc field?
There is no such option available with iPhone's Mail app. I'm not aware of this option being avaialble with a full featured computer email client such as with Outlook. -
Cannot send email from the Mail App?
I've had an izymail subscription for 1 year and just renewed it last week. I could never send an email from my Mail App without a window popping up stating "izymail cannot connect to the server" and the sending bar (along the bottom of the screen) just freezes and will not send.
I've a Hotmail account linked up to izymail. Anyone know how to fix this problem?I fixed my problem - I deleted my email account on my iPhone, then tried to setup a new account. I had a few problems setting it up. It wouldn't recognize the incoming or outgoing servers and I lost my email altogether for a few hours. Then I changed every setting possible and finally figured out that I had 2-3 "Other SMTP Servers" as well as my "Primary Server". Once I deleted the Other SMTP Servers, my email worked and i'm able to send emails now!
I also think changing the "Server Port" number helped solve my problem also, and making sure "Use SSL" was turned off. -
Mail.app keeps saving downloads to Mail Downloads rather than ~/Downloads
I've modified Mail.app preferences to save downloads in the main downloads folder, ~/Downloads. But every time I double click an attachment, it still downloads to the wrong folder, Mail Downloads, in a terribly nested directory, ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads.
I've tried restarting Mail.app, I've tried restarting Mac OS X, to no avail. This is starting to smell like a constant's set somewhere, instead of referring to the current application preference. When you get an email with attachments, mail automatically unpacks attachments into those funky nested folders. If you open the attachment directly that's what it opens, because it assumes that you just want to look at the attachment, not save it. on the other hand, if you right-click and explicitly choose download it will download a copy into the downloads folder where you expect it.

I have a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Machintosh HD , I am running Maverics 10.9.1Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

Mail app wont open since 10.5.6 update
I updated yesterday from 10.4 to 10.5.6 to get ilife. Since then, mail mail app wont open. I click, one bounce and nothing! When I go to restart my G5 it shows mail as being open. I can open a new viewer from the upper tool bar, this will shoe me my folders, but wont open, and nothing appears in my inbox. I can see all my messages and send and receive via web on mobile me. Ive tried syncing... seems the issue is mail not opening to begin with. I getting a wee bit desperate!

My mail app doesn't seem to open. It starts but then it kicks me out. I have tried restarting the device and the app but it makes no difference. Its telling me i have 2 messages but i cant get in to read them. Has anyone had this trouble before?
Close the Mail app in the Task Bar and re-launch.
Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar. Hold Mail app down for a second or two; tap the minus sign to close app.
If it still doesn't work, try a reset.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. -
Mail app deleted and reinstall wont open, says not compatible with OSX
i accindetally deleted my mail app and emptied the trash, when I tried to reinstall from the startup disk, it installs but wont open, saying that the version of mail is not compatible with the version of OSX (10.5.8)
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:

There is no downloadable version of Mail.app - it comes with the operating system i.e. on your install disks. -
Will any mail apps open to the inbox by default?
I have been using computers for decades...and have had my iPhone for a few years now. It was only a few days ago that I got my first iPad and was surprised by the "feature" that all of the mail apps seem offer...
I am talking about opening the app to the last email you were looking at. I tried a few different apps and they all seem to offer the same thing.
Why does it seem to be an iPad thing to make you go to your inbox instead of having it be the first thing you see?
Can anyone direct me to an app for the iPad that when I open it, I will see my inbox?
Maybe it's just me but I don't want the contents of an email being displayed on my screen until I choose...who knows who will be looking over my shoulder when the app is opened.
Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.
ScottThis answer does not help me at all.
It does not address my initial question...not even a little bit.
Me mentioning someone looking over my shoulder was just an example.
The point is, I want an app that opens by default directly to the inbox.
If you have anything useful to contribute, please do.
Scott
