Mail.app can't start

Hello
Today I woke up my Macbook Pro with an scrambled display just like described in these topics:

After rebooting the machine, my Mail.app can't start successfully.
I found this line in the logs:
18/07/08 9:23:42 Mail[210] 18/07/08 9:23:42 Mail[210] Error 11 performing query SELECT COUNT() FROM (SELECT DISTINCT messages.ROWID FROM messages JOIN mailboxes AS mailbox ON messages.mailbox = mailbox.ROWID WHERE (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%40XXX:[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'local:///Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://xxx%[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau.montero%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (messages.type = '2') AND ((messages.flags&2) = 0)): database disk image is malformed (SELECT DISTINCT messages.ROWID FROM messages JOIN mailboxes AS mailbox ON messages.mailbox = mailbox.ROWID WHERE (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'local:///Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau.montero%[email protected]/Deleted%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (mailbox.url != 'pop://pau.montero%[email protected]/Sent%20Messages') AND (messages.type = '2') AND ((messages.flags&2) = 0)): database disk image is malformed
Any idea about can I repair that disc image? I tried disk verification and permission repair only.
Thanks a lot!

  • Ipad 4 after update to IO8 Safari and Mail App would not start

I have updated my Apple Ipad 4 to IOS8.
    Modell MD510FD/A
After this update Safari and Mail App do not start. It open the app a short time and closed by itself.
I have restarted the Ipad for 3 times. But the problem still happen.

    Hi t.reiterer,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Since these are native apps that come with the OS, it sounds like a reinstall is in order.  A full backup first, then restore.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If a regular restore doesn't help.  Try a restore as new.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Again, make sure you have a good backup first.
    Best Regards,
    Nubz

  • Mail.app refuses to start up

    Hi all:
Today I encountered a problem using mail.app with my dotmac account. When try to run the application, either by clicking its icon in the applications folder or from the dock, I get the spinning beach ball, which is followed by an error message stating:
'Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full.
You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume.
    Quit mail.'
I'm not sure what to do as my hard disk (only one volume/partition) is not full at all. It's an 80 GB HD with more than 13GB of free space. The problem started after a restart and has never occurred before. Is this due to a corrupt preference file or the likes? Any ideas?
I can still log into my account and read my mail using webmail.
Thanks very much for your help,
    Samoth.

Hi, I have the sam exact problem with the same exact error message. I have never had a problem before. This only started happening 3 days ago out of the blue for no apparent reason. I have plenty of free space, over 100 gb's. I tried trashing the preference file, that didn't work. I tired archiving all my old messages, that didn't work as well. I too am able too access my messages online thru the web based .mac web page. what gives. can anyone help? apple, are you listening?

  • Windows 8 Mail App - Can't add IMAP account

Hi all, I have been playing with Win8 for a few weeks now and love it. My only concern is that I can't use the Mail App to connect to my hosted email accounts via IMAP, every time I add the settings it tells me:
We still can't find settings for
[email protected] Providing this additional info may help. If you don't know this information, search online or check with your provider.
I have exactly the same settings in Outlook on the same PC in desktop mode and it works fine, as well as connecting from all of my mobile devices. I can't even find where to look for additional info on the error.
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Mail App.
I've tried manually adding the server settings to no avail.
I've confirmed my account supports IMAP and proven it is working in Outlook.
    Any thoughts please?

  • Mail.app can't send emails

Mail.app (either 3.6 under 10.5.8 or 4.5 under 10.6.7) has lost the ability to send emails.  Both can receive/download emails from Yahoo Mail but neither can send messages.
Sticking to 10.6: I've installed Thunderbird which does work "both ways" but I really want my Mail.app back.
This has been a perennial problem going back some versions of OS X and Mail.app. Mail.app works fine for months but then there will be times when the sent emails seem to stall but can be made to send if I first quit the sending process with Activity Monitor, quit Mail.app and relaunch. This will go on for a few days, then NO emails can be sent.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks for your response, William.
First I'll answer your question and then update what's happened over the past 10 hours or so.
Connection Doctor (this is typical) will show two activities - as represented by the "spinning gear" wheels.
    Both say: "Connecting to server."
Often: one of the two activities eventually shows a green button and  shows a message: "Mail has connected to the internet."
But Mail.app is then unable to connect with the smpt server.
Nothing more happens for many minutes - usually this ends with a message telling me to check my email and network connections.   (I've done those checks dozens of times - nothing is ever changed or incorrect.)
Tonight (after getting notice of your post to my question), I again tried sending a test message (to myself and to myself  again - in my hotmail account)
I was preparing to respond to your question about Connection Doctor so I hit "Send" for the test massage and launched Connection Doctor.  Again - nothing happened for about 10-15 minutes but Connection Doctor then flashed a message for me to enter my account login password.  I entered my password - but "nothing continued to happen."
Finally - without warning - the test message was sent (and the much loved "swoosh" sound was heard)!
49 days: that's how long it's been since I could use Mail.app to send messages.  For no reason I can see - the smpt.ameritech.yahoo server RESPONDED!
Yes - I immediately composed another test message and this one went "swoosh" as soon as I hit the Send button.
Next: Tuesday (first business day after Memorial Day) I'll call my ISP and try to sort this out with them.  This is NOT a Mac problem.  I have proven this: tried to send from both 10.5.8 (Mail.app 3.6), from 10.6.7 (Mail.app 4.5) on my Mac Pro and from my MacBook (also running 10.6.7 and Mail.app 4.5).  NONE of these platforms can connect with smtp.ameritech.yahoo server.
You: get a "helpful" rating because, if not for your question about Connection Doctor, I would never have tried (yet again) sending another test message.   I was simply convinced that doing that was useless after many tries.

  • Annoying mail app "can't connect" pop ups

Whenever I have bad 3G signal and I open the mail app I get lots and lots of network error pop ups from each of my email accounts. They are really annoying. Can they be turned off? Could Apple eliminate them definitely? Please!

Remember - these accounts are working over SSL with Thunderbird and in Mail.app on an old machine that I just set up mail on after these problems began. That said, the exact message for the SMTP connections is:
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account

  • IOS mail app can't download mail

I've got an IPhone 5, running IOS 8.1.3.  For the last week or so, the built in Mail app is not displaying any new mail from my Register.com email account.
It flashes a "Checking for mail..." message, quickly says that it's downloading mail, and then it says "Updated Just Now", like normal.  But no new mail is displayed.  I tried deleting and recreating the account; login information never changed.  I've reverified correct incoming and outgoing mail servers as well.
    Anyone seen this behavior before?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem when i want to download update in apps store. The apps store is using other account, which is not mine so i don't know the password and eventually can't download apps. Can' t understand how this could happen because i'm using my own personal ipad an have logged on in my ipad's setting using my own apple ID. Contacting apple support doesn't help either.

  • Mail.app won't start up: Stuck on optimizing database

After upgrading to Lion I opened Mail.app. It updated the messages, identified conversations etc. Then, on optimizing the database, it unexpectedly quit. This happens again and again. Anybody know of a solution? I kinda need my mail...

For me mail would hang 1/3 of the way through updating the database and I would have to force quit.
How I fixed it is went to users/(username)/libary and renaned the mail folder to "old mail".
When I opened mail next it opened right up and after a minute started downloading all my old mail messages.
Most of my mail accounts are IMAP so this might not work with POP accounts but worth a shot.

  • Mail.app can't encrypt after the turn of the year

At the turn of the year the Apple Mail.app (1.3.x) lost the built-in ability to sign and encrypt messages. The built-in verification and decryption works fine, but the both required buttons for signing and encryption are still missing.
The Certificates of myself, my partners and the CA are valid. My Communication-Partners which use the Mail.app confirmed that problem and the Thunderbird-Users are not affected.
Any Ideas, Comments or further Confirmations.

  • TS3899 My iPhone & iPad mail is locked - Press mail app, the screen starts mail, freezes and bounces back to main menu. The fault occurred whilst opening a draft email created in the 'Mail 2 Group' app. Hard reset/reset all/restore backup have no effect -

I installed the Mail 2 Group App on my iPAD, created an email which I saved to the 'Draft' folder, with something over 300 of my contacts in the bcc. On returning to this email, again in my iPad, the screen locked in mail for a few seconds and bounced bak to the main menu. This repeated on my iPhone, on which I have been carrying out my own checks - this includes deleting the Yahoo account, hard reset (red cross and two buttons), restoring a backup and Reset All in settings.
    I'm stuck !!

Sending a message with that many addressees may have required more RAM than was available. You can clean up RAM as follows:
    Double-press the HOME button
Kill each app by flicking its screen image up
When all apps except the Home screen are closed press HOME
Wait about 2 minutes for the shutdowns to finish
Turn the phone off (hold the SLEEP button until "slide to power off" appears, and do so)
    Wait another minute
Turn the phone back on by holding the SLEEP button until an Apple logo appears
Now try to send the mail again. Note that you may have an unrelated problem if this works: Many ISPs (Yahoo included) limit the number of email recipients for a single message as a way to combat spam.

  • TS3276 Connect to internet via browser over Airport Express, but Mail app can't connect to internet

Hi - I just moved to a new apartment, and I have an Airport Express that is allowing me to connect to the internet through a browser, but Mail keeps telling me that it can't connect to the internet. I'm guessing it has something to do with the network settings for my Airport Express? Not sure what the right configuration should be. Thanks!

In Mail, from the Window menu select Connection Doctor - any feedback there? Within the window click on Network Diagnostics to see if it offers any clues.
