Mail.app default email reader list

In anticipation of Google killing off the Google Notifier (for Mac & Windows) on Jan 31, 2014, I uninstalled it today and replaced it with another notifier app (Notifier for Gmail).  Even though I used AppCleaner, the most touted uninstaller for Mac, one trace of Google Notifier remains and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.  I'm sure it's buried somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere.  If anyone has an idea where to look, I appreciate your help.  Following is a screenshot of what I'm trying to get rid of on the Mail.app default email reader list.

95% of the time they take the easy road and tell people to simply drag the app into the trash.  With normal apps having anywhere from 3-7 attached files, if one tries a lot of software, over time that leaves a lot of extraneous folders and files on their machines.  Some of them will send you complete instructions if you ask, though.
Still hopeful someone here might know a way to fix this in Terminal, similar to how we get rid of duplicate entrie for "Open with" on the right-click context menu for an app.  If the question gets answered in the Google product support forum I'll be sure to add it here.

  • Default email reader sticks

Apple mail preferences "default email reader": selection list shows every app on Mac Mini even Windows app's on virtual machine.  I select "Mail 6.2", but when I reopen preferences it bounces back to "Windows Media Maker.app"  which is first app on list.  On selection holds, always reverts to first app on list
I have tried deleting mail's .plist to no avail.  This only occurs on the Mac Mini, not the MBP.
    Mail seems to work OK
    Ideas please.

    More information:
I stopped BOINCManager 6.4 from running at startup.  The "Mail 6.2" setting now holds.

  • "Default email reader" shows 2 versions of Mail.app

If I got to Preferences in Mail.app, the first drop down to select the "Default email reader" shows 2 versions of Mail to choose from: 2.1.1 & 3.0
Any ideas why that is or how to remove the 2.1.1? Whenever I chose 3.0 and close the prefs and then open them again, it stays selection on 2.1.1

Just discovered this on my Default Apps as well - though not just with Mail.
I have apparently got Mail 2.1.1 and four (4) versions of Mail 3.0 in this menu. Also - four versions of Safari 3.0.4, one of 2.0.4, as well as five versions of Firefox 2.0.8 and one version of 2.0.7.
It also things I have multiple numbered versions of Fetch, and VLC.
Not sure what is going on with that, or why it's happening. I am having trouble with my Mail.app preferences repeatedly changing after I sync my machines across .mac. I'm wondering if this is another symptom and/or part of the problem.

  • Mail will not stay as default email reader

I have the mysterious problem facing a computer newly installed MacBook Air 2012 with 10.8.2. It has Parallels, MS Office 2011, but no MS Mail Application.
I have another account on this computer that is not affected by this issue.
The issue is that the default email reader is set to "Narrator".  When I change it to Mail 6.2, the setting takes until I close Mail. When I reopen Mail, Narrator shows again as the default reader.  When I click on a mail link in Safari, Mail opens.
There is no evident preference or preference pane file for Mail in the Library.  I was looking to compare the preference file with one of a computer I setup in parallel.
How do I find the preference plist file for Mail?
I setup all my accounts through "Mail, Contacts, and Calendar" so I think Apple is storing this configuration information elsewhere.

Never mind. It went away aftrer reboot.
Still don't know where the plist is for Mail though.

  • Mail default email reader changes constantly

i have a weird issue where the Preferences > General > Default Email Reader keeps getting reset to some Windows program (i run Parallels and windows 7 on the laptop). i /think/ it keeps getting set to a windows program but in any case it is never Mac Mail which is sort of inconvenient.
has anyone heard of such a thing or know how to get this to stay on Mail?
    TIA

thanks for the always great help. this is a good suggestion.
for some reason though when i get into virtual machine > configure > applications the pulldown for Email is "Open in Mac". i will try and see if there is some help on the parallels forum on this.
i guess i am correct in thinking that the only mail setting in mac OS is in Mail? i mean, now that i think about it i have Thunderbird loaded and Sparrow loaded. i don't suppose that somehow something in these email clients is causing mac to get confused...
just thinking out loud on this one i guess...

  • I use Mail but Outlook cannot be removed as default email reader

I have OSX 10.7.2 and both Mail, which I use, and Outlook for Mac on my system. However, when I try to change the default email reader in Preferences from Outlook to Mail, the change flips back to Outlook. Can anyone help?

Never mind. It went away aftrer reboot.
Still don't know where the plist is for Mail though.

  • Setting "Default email reader"

I'm setting up Mail as my new eMail client (I had been using Entourage as well as Thunderbird). However, when I select "Mail.app" as my "Default email reader" in General Preferences, it doesn't "stick" (i.e., when I close and then reopen the preferences panel, Thunderbird keeps showing up as the default).
    Suggestions?

Well, apparently the problem resolved itself.
I had downloaded and installed RCDefaultApp (<http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/>), and it was indicating that the Default email reader is indeed Mail.app. But, oddly, it added the suffix "[2]" to the name: "Mail.app (3.4)[2]." This suggested to me that maybe RCDefaultApp was "seeing" two copies of Mail.app. Since I only have one copy on my internal drive, I thought, perhaps, it was seeing the copy that was on my external backup drive. So I ejected the drive. I then rebooted, and RCDefaultApp then indicated that the Default was "Mail.app (3.4)" (i.e., no suffix). I then checked Mail.app's preferences and, sure enough, it was indicating that the Default email reader was Mail.app as well.
I still am unclear what caused the problem, nor why rebooting (apparently) cleared it. All I know is that after rebooting, the problem "went away" and has not (yet?) returned.

  • Default email reader

Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)
Apart from Apple mail I have 2 options in the default email reader field in apple mail:
    Thunderbird 1502
    Thunderbird 1504
I'd like to get rid of the 1502 entry as this is from an earlier version of Thunderbird.
    How can I delete this??

If you deleted Thunderbird 1502 from the hard drive, I suggest Resetting Launch Services which should resolve it.

  • Mail app - The email body doesn't appear on iPad.

Mail app - The email body doesn't appear anymore on my iPad2. I've deleted the account and set it up again from scratch, but no luck.
I have an iPhone and everything works fine.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

  • How can I make "mail" my default email app?

When I click on an email address from Cobook or on a web page viewed in Safari, the chrome app opens to a gmail account that I rarely use. How can I make my regular Mail app the default?
    Thanks.

Open Mail -> Preferences. Under the General tab there should be an option to select the default Mail app.

  • Mail app defaults to opening the last email I opened on the iPad

I have a new 32gb iPad.  I'm new to the tablet arena, so forgive me if the question has been answered 1,000 times.
I configured my work email using the mail app - easy as pie (using Exchange server).  However, when I open the mail app, what displays is the last email I opened on the iPad.  it doesn't open up to my inbox with a list of email, or to my folder list - it literally opens up to the last email I opened on the machine.
Is this intended behaviour?  If so, is it changable?  I'd really like to see my inbox without having to hit the button to bring up my inbox.

To get a list of accounts or emails, turn the iPad to landscape orientation. List automatically appears when you do. Otherwise, it does open to the last message you were viewing when you closed it.

  • Mountain Lion Mail.app Sends Email Several Times While Drafting Reply

Using Mail.app in Mountain Lion and the default configuration of Gmail via IMAP (as configured by Mail.app) when I reply to an existing message, Mail.app sends the partially completed email message several times while I am drafting the message, without me hitting the send button. This does not occur when composing new messages. I have not yet determined what is causing the message to send. My working theory is that it is sending the message each time a draft is saved to the server. Any insight on what is happening (or confirmation that other people are experiencing the same behavior) would be appreciated.

I have 4 accounts running, 2 POP and 2 IMAP, after doing some checking today with a mac engineer online, it appears that it is incoming mail only affected and only on the POP accounts. I had previously tried recreating the accounts but as from today even just quitting Mail and reopening no longer works... the engineer has had to exculate my call to a specialist who in turn has now had to send it off to a specialist team to work on. When I get results, I will post them in case it helps someone else.

  • My iPhone mail app deletes emails from my hotmail. How can I get my MacBook Air mail app to do the same?

    Hi
When using Mail on my MacBook Air (I don't open it often), i receive hundrends of emails through it, even if those messages have been deleted from my iPhone/hotmail.
When i set up Mail on my iPhone there was an option that enabled deleted/read messages to also be deleted/read on hotmail automatically.
I can't work out how to join up my MacBook mail with this too? Anybody know what I mean and can help??
    Thanks

Comcast is POP email. I have it as well. POP email does not sync across devices. If I read an email on my iPad it will appear as unread on my Mac in the Mac Mail App when I launch it.That's how POP accounts work. The emails will not sync across devices.

  • Mail app sends emails with headers in body.

I use Mail.app to access my MS Exchange account. When replying to the end of a long email thread, the people I send the email end up seeing the headers after references. I know it's possible it's on the other users end, but if there any way to fix this problem on my end?
An example of what is seen in the body of one of my emails:

    Hi Tom,
Do you see those long headers when you initially receive the message?
If you do, then you can change that by going to Mail/Preferences/Viewing and change "Show header detail" to "Default" or "None". You can also customize what is seen in headers.
