Mail app downloading spam / junk email from Yahoo

I use yahoo as my email service, and I also download mail from yahoo to the Mail app onmy ipad3.  I have noticed that the app is also downloading spam or junk email rather than email that is only in the inbox.
Can someone tell me how to only download mail from the inbox?
Thanks,
Ben

The iPad mail app has no filters for spam and junk mail. You have to set those filters on the server in your Yahoo mail account.

  • Mail app crashes when receiving email from a particular sender

    HI All,
Here is a problem I'm facing, Mail App crashes while receiving email from a particular sender. I'm testing our new Email Hosting solution "Rackspace" and it works fine with all other Email clients or on deveices (Android, Windows Phone & Blackbarry) but on Iphone 4s (IOS 6.1.4, i guess) it crashes the Mail App.
The email I'm using is sending over to an email at ttv-asia.com domain. The user of ttv-asia.com is based in China and just to see if the problem is with the Iphone, I've tested the Iphone's Mail App in Hong Kong and it works normal.
So now... Im confused and have no Idea on how ro fix this.

Sorted, it seems that livemail configured for exchange and having Google premier for exchange, results in the mail app on the iPhone crashing, when selecting an email in the Google exchange mail box, then calling up the folders , it crashes. switched off livemail mail, worked fine.
    Weird.

  • Why has mail 5.2 stopped retrieving email from yahoo (IMAP)?

Mail stopped retrieving email from yahoo. I did not change anything. All of the preferences look the same as before.

Based on what I've read in the forum, Yahoo mail has been having some problems.

  • Reg iPhone Mail App (downloading of emails)

    Hi,
Does iPhone download the entire email when we check for emails?
    Scenario:
    - Open iPhone mail app
    - receive 10 emails
    - open the email to read the contents
    - get ‘loading’ icon..seems as if that’s when it’s trying to get the email
    - the contents received in few seconds depending on the email
    - move on to next email…and see the same loading icon
Is it that mail app downloads just the headers and the content is downloaded when you actually open that particular email? Ideally, I would like the email to be downloaded completely to my phone…this way I can quickly check my emails and move across the messages.
I believe Blackberry works differently where the entire email is downloaded and only attachment is downloaded when you try to access it.
    Thanks,

I have just received the new iphone 4th generation. I have a data plane for 200mb per month.
My question is wether iphone downloads the whole email message or if it downloads only the headers? If it downloads the whole message, can I opt for only the headers?
It seems from the first day of use it downloads all messages including the attachments and thus my data usage is huge. In my old Nokia phone only when I required to read the email it will go ahead to download the whole message-is this possible with iphone?
    Marios.

  • I add my comcast email to the mail on a iMac running Maverick. It downloads all my emails from there. How do i get my email to delete of the the server

Go to Mail Preferences>Accounts, click the '+' button below the list of accounts and insert the settings, username and password as instructed. Some account types can be set up automatically as soon as Mail knows the emails address (because the server settings are built in), in other cases you will have to get them from your ISP.

  • How to prevent mail app on OS X & iOS from automatically marking email messages as read just when they are selected either intentionally or not

    Good morning guys
is there a way to prevent mail app on OS X & iOS from automatically marking email messages as read just when they are selected either intentionally or not
    thanks

On OS X, You are able to hide the preview window on the right in normal mode, or on the lower side in classic mode, by simply putting your cursor on the thin bar which is in between, and then make it as small as possible, so it goes away.
Then your messages won't be automatically read when clicked once, but only if you click them twice and a new window with the message opens.
Also, you are able to mark them as unread again, which is a silly workaround, but possible.
You can do that by right clicking and select 'Mark as...' -> unread.
    On iOS, I'm not sure..

  • Mail.app can't send emails

Mail.app (either 3.6 under 10.5.8 or 4.5 under 10.6.7) has lost the ability to send emails.  Both can receive/download emails from Yahoo Mail but neither can send messages.
Sticking to 10.6: I've installed Thunderbird which does work "both ways" but I really want my Mail.app back.
This has been a perennial problem going back some versions of OS X and Mail.app. Mail.app works fine for months but then there will be times when the sent emails seem to stall but can be made to send if I first quit the sending process with Activity Monitor, quit Mail.app and relaunch. This will go on for a few days, then NO emails can be sent.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks for your response, William.
First I'll answer your question and then update what's happened over the past 10 hours or so.
Connection Doctor (this is typical) will show two activities - as represented by the "spinning gear" wheels.
    Both say: "Connecting to server."
Often: one of the two activities eventually shows a green button and  shows a message: "Mail has connected to the internet."
But Mail.app is then unable to connect with the smpt server.
Nothing more happens for many minutes - usually this ends with a message telling me to check my email and network connections.   (I've done those checks dozens of times - nothing is ever changed or incorrect.)
Tonight (after getting notice of your post to my question), I again tried sending a test message (to myself and to myself  again - in my hotmail account)
I was preparing to respond to your question about Connection Doctor so I hit "Send" for the test massage and launched Connection Doctor.  Again - nothing happened for about 10-15 minutes but Connection Doctor then flashed a message for me to enter my account login password.  I entered my password - but "nothing continued to happen."
Finally - without warning - the test message was sent (and the much loved "swoosh" sound was heard)!
49 days: that's how long it's been since I could use Mail.app to send messages.  For no reason I can see - the smpt.ameritech.yahoo server RESPONDED!
Yes - I immediately composed another test message and this one went "swoosh" as soon as I hit the Send button.
Next: Tuesday (first business day after Memorial Day) I'll call my ISP and try to sort this out with them.  This is NOT a Mac problem.  I have proven this: tried to send from both 10.5.8 (Mail.app 3.6), from 10.6.7 (Mail.app 4.5) on my Mac Pro and from my MacBook (also running 10.6.7 and Mail.app 4.5).  NONE of these platforms can connect with smtp.ameritech.yahoo server.
You: get a "helpful" rating because, if not for your question about Connection Doctor, I would never have tried (yet again) sending another test message.   I was simply convinced that doing that was useless after many tries.

  • Mail.app not retrieving new messages from Exchange Server

I used to use mail.app for my work email account, set up as Exchange IMAP. After upgrading to SL, I wanted to take advantage of the new exchange features, and set up an exchange account.
But now, multiple times a day, the new exchange account will just sit there, trying to fetch new mail (the spinning wheel thing in the left side menu bar). I've gone hours w/o noticing the problem, only realizing this when I check my iPhone and see dozens of new messages. Restarting fixes the problem.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    michellzappa,
All of my e-mail providers have some sort of web based access for my accounts. They identify, segregate and prevent any message marked as bounce from being downloaded to my inbox. Is this what you are describing as redundant?
Mail Scripts 2.7.10 by Andreas Amann, provides an excellent compilation of mail scripts.
I would advise that you create a new post with the title. "Can I write an applescript to automatically clean out messages on server every hour?" in the AppleScript Forum.
    ;~)

  • Is there a way to set the iPad Mail app to only get email manually, not automatically when the app is opened?

I usually don't use my iPad Mail app to check my email, but sometimes I go into the Mail app just to send a test email or check an attachment in the Sent folder or some such, and every time I enter the app, Mail checks for new email. Which means it ends up downloading five hundred emails or so if I haven't been to the app in a while. Annoying! I haven't been able to find a setting that will stop Mail from checking for new Mail when I go into the app; is there such a setting?

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

I am unable to delete my emails from yahoo after I have read them.  What should I be doing to correct this problem?

    marjoriefrommm,
First go to mail preferences>accounts>mailbox behavior and under trash click "move deleted messages to the trash mailbox, the delete them from there.
Also got to your Yahoo mail and check your settings there.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • How do I delete junk email from my Mac pro ?

HHow can I delete the junk emails from my Mac Pro ? And to delete all of them please

Not with a Classic operating system.     Mac OS X Mail has built-in Junk mail filtering.      It isn't the greatest in the world, but it works.      Here's how:
Mail (Mountain Lion): Change the junk mail filter
Without an actual description of your operating system, it is impossible to give you the exact article for your system.  Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac, and post in the correct forum:

  • Can I force Mail to download ALL RSS feeds from all time?

When I subscribe to an RSS feed in Mail (OS X Lion) it typically gives the last 20 feeds published. The same happens in Safari.
This limit is set by Mail and not by the server, because Google Reader can show all historical feeds, right back in time.
On Mail in Snow Leopard, when you moved the RSS feed to 'Show in Inbox', it downloaded all old RSS posts, rather like rebuilding an email account. However, the same does not happen on Lion.
Can I force Mail to download ALL RSS feeds from all time?

Please ignore this question. Or tell me how to delete it.

  • Getting Mail.app to work as default from Netscape.

I've searched several forums and sites trying to find an answer and so far no luck so If anyone knows how to help Me I'll be extremely thankful.
I have Netscape 7.2, Safari 2.03, Firefox 1.01 and whatever version of I.E last came out for the Mac installed on my system. Of the first three (I never use I.E) both Safari and Firefox open the Mail.app when I click on a e-mail link in a web page. Despite everything I've tried I can not get Netscape to do the same. It always opens Netscape's mail program instead.
What do I have to do to get Netscape to use the Mail.app for in page email links?

This seems a little paradoxical... if it's hi-pri, why would you defer it for three days? but I guess it's your workflow
The issue here is what is your trigger? are you hoping to automatically identify hi-pri emails and you want your script to set them aside? or are you manually setting them aside and you want something to move them back?
In other words, i think you need to better explain your hopes/expectations here before anyone can tell you how (or if) AppleScript will fit in.
