Mail app frozen

was sending an email on my phone with several pics I had attached from my phone.  The mail app froze while sending; maybe pic files were too large.  I've shut down and restarted the phone; but now when I try to go into the mail app; it is just a grey screen.  I can access my mail account via my laptop and it's fine; just can't access it on my phone.  I've even deleted the mail account and recreated it.  HELP!!

Quit the Mail app (Double tap the Home button, hold the app icon until it wiggles, tap the red dot, tap home button)
Relaunch The Mail app
If that doesn't resolve it
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears

  • IPad 2, mail app frozen after g3 cellular connected. Receiving mail, but all screen function frozen. ???

Ipad 2, mail app frozen after connecting via g3 cellular. Incoming messages are received, but all app functions are frozen. Any ideas anyone?
rural location, have only Internet connection for answers, since email frozen. Thanks any help.

Thanks Diavonex, but that's what I tried to discribe that I'd already done. I didn't realise it was called the "task bar".
I've done both the things you suggested again, but Mail is still locked into this "white" screen when it is relaunched, and after 10 seconds it crashes back to the app menu page. I seems to be running in the background as it knows new emails are waiting to be read, but you can't get into Mail any more to view anything.
Not sure whether to delete all Mail accounts in Settings and start again, but that seems extreme.
    Any other suggestions ?

  • Mail app frozen after waking from sleep

I have Yosemite 10.10.3 (Public Beta). Every time my Macbook Air wakes from sleep, the mail app is locked up with the spinning beach ball. I have to force quit the app and restart Mail. This has been happening since 10.10 I believe. I have of course restarted my MB many times but the problem continues to consistently occur when waking from sleep. Curious if anyone else has run into this and if they found a fix.

I reinstalled Yosemite and it fixed the problem briefly even after the updates were applied. But now it is back to freezing every time it wakes from sleep. I am now on 10.10.4 and still having the problem.

  • E-mail app frozen on white screen

Help!!!  Iphone 5s - email app is on a white screen.  I have tried flicking up tile and restarting, but it did not help.  I also pressed the menu button and top button for 15 sec for a hard shutoff, but once again it did not help.  I deleted the mail account, then uploaded it once again, but it did not work, the white screen is still there.  I ask siri if there is any mail, and she says yes and displays them, but when I press the mail, it open the app on a white screen... What else can I do?.

    Hello isbe1604,
Having no access to your email can certainly be frustrating. After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with software issues. Have you attempted to restore the device to factory settings? Test the issue on a new installation, and make sure that it works. Then use the same article to restore from your backup to either verify it still works, or isolate the issue to the backup itself.

  • My mail app is frozen does not respoind to touch screen

suddenly my Mail App is frozen. It does not respond to the touch screen at all.

Try restarting the device and see if that works. If you find that there was no help from that use these steps (located in Apple article HT5137):
Follow these steps to force an app to close:
From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
Tap and hold on the app.
When it starts to jiggle, tap the red - icon to close it.
Double-click the Home button and try opening the app aga

  • Cannot Get Mail - Mail app has been frozen, no new downloads, since 7/14.

My mail app has been frozen since 7/14, and usually it just says it was updated on 7/2/14. However, occasionally, it gives me the message: "The mail server 'imap.gmail.com' is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings."
Needless to say, I have done this. I have quit the app many times, reset the iPad, and finally last night I broke down and downloaded the 8.3 update (I was using 7.something before), and I am STILL getting this message and no new emails!
I can check on my phone and computer browsers just fine. Is there something I'm missing here? Really appreciate any help anyone can give. I finally got fed up not having this functionality.
    THANK YOU!!!!

I should mention the only other idea I've had is to delete my gmail account from my mail app, and re-add it later?

  • TS3276 My "Mail" app on MacBook Air is frozen

The 'light' under the task bar shows 'on', but I can neither open or close the app. Nor can I re-start.  Any suggestions as to how to thaw this out? Thanks!

Thanks, Eric - it has now worked to free up my mail app; but I wasn't aware of the 'force quit' option - I hadn't needed it before now. Will know for future, if it happens again.

  • E mail is frozen.  Cannot open or delete messages., E mail is frozen.  Cannot open or delete messages.

E mail is frozen.  Cannot send or receive messages.  Checked settings which seem correct.  also, i signed off from aol mail on the web.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Or quit mail and restart.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • HT5361 I am having trouble with closing the mail app so that I can shut off my laptop. the menu bar under file doesn't give me the option to quit.  that option is lister, but it is faded.  command Q will not close mail either.

I am unable to shut off my laptop because I can not close the mail app.  Command Q doesn't work. While "quit mail" shows up under FILE on the menu bar, it is faded and not a working option.  Mail appears to be frozen.  I also can not pull up the mail page despite the app being open. Clicking on the mail icon does nothing and there are no available options under the menu bar.  Help, please!  Thanks!

    Try force-quitting (command-option-esc).

  • Keystroke delay in Mail.app when autosaving

This is a very obnoxious problem I'm having in Mail.app.  Apologies if it's been addressed elsewhere; kindly point me in the right direction if so.
    First, off:  the specs.
2011 unibody Macbook Pro, 2.3 Ghz Core i5, 8GB RAM.
    Running Mountain Lion, 10.8.1
Since installing Mountain Lion, Mail.app has had an intolerable keystroke delay whenever it tries to autosave a message.  Which seems to happen about every 15 seconds or so.  What will happen is I'll type for a while and then Mail will freeze up for a few seconds while it autosaves the message.  When it resumes, I've usually lost everything I've typed during the time when it's frozen.
It's beyond obnoxious.  It's intolerable.  I've searched around to see if others have had a similar problem, and haven't found much.  I've dug around in the preferences to see if there's an autosave setting with no luck.  No idea what's causing it.
I'm about at the point where I'm considering abandoning Mail.app entirely for a third-party e-mail solution, but I'd rather not spend the money.  Anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?

I have the same problem, although the characters I type do end up on the screen after a while. Just the screen updates are frozen, so you don't see what you're typing (or erasing using backspace, even more annoying if you keep it pressed and end up erasing half your message). Very, very annoying, almost unbelievable in 2012. This type of lag would have been unacceptable 20 years ago. Processing speeds have increased how much exactly in the mean time? This does indeed appear to be related to autosave, but it's beyond me why this can't simply happen in a separate thread so you can keep typing.
