Mail app functions missing

Since the IOS 6.1.3 update, all the most useful Mail functions have gone missing. These include Compose a message, Reply to a message, Forward a message, Move messages to folders, Delete messages. It seems I can only read messages. The usual buttons are all gone except for Edit.
To compose a message, I have to go into the Contacts app and cluck on an email address.
Is this a feature or a bug? Or something else?

Close out of the mail app, double tap the home button and completely close out of it.
then do a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Then check your mail features.

  • Open in external app function missing.

It's a huge flaw. In order to open a certain file in an external app i have to select email link. Then email it to myself. Send it. Find it in my inbox. Then copy the link. I wish I could save time by just being ABLE to copy it WITHOUT the email step. It's so frustrating. I just feel like returning the whole gosh darn thing and getting something that actually hassle free.
It's clear though, WD doesn't have much interest in consumer satisfaction. Maybe they are, but I don't see it. My request is this, please add the ability to open a file that the WD app can't open in another external app.
How hard could it be? How long until we can see this update?

Sorry?   I'm not sure what you're talking about.   The App DOES have "Open In" function.   At least in iOS it does, or are you talking about Android? I just opened a PDF using Adobe PDF, an SQLITE file using TextTastic, etc. What file type are you trying?

  • My mail.app icons are missing

The icons (send, get mail, etc) at the top of my mail.app are missing.
If I click on the "search field", they will show up for a brief period, but then disappear again.

From the "View" menu > "Show Toolbar".
If you have selected more icons for your tollbar, than the toolbar can hold, click the ">>" to reveal the missing icons.
Or enlage the Mail window to make the toolbar longer.
Or customize it, to remove other icons.
Or set the toolbar to show only the icons and no text, to save space.

  • MacBook--missing Mail app, and OS Update trouble

    Hi,
I'm trying to help out a friend who was given a rather beat used MacBook for free. It's a white MB, 2.2 ghz intel core duo
    The OS is currently 10.5.8
Software updates does not indicate that there is any update available for this machine (does that mean 10.5.8 is it for this computer?)
The problem is, the Mail app is missing. That's all she cares about (and iTunes which I have backed up). So, I thought if I re-installed OS 10.5.8, it would put the Mail app back. Tried the Combo Updater, but it didn't work.
I repaired permissions before and after the update. I also Verified the disk--it did find some problems, but....
The CD/DVD drive is toasted on the machine--I was trying to insert Disk Warrior, or heck, anything for that matter, and CDs/DVDs won't mount--it chews 'em a bit and spits them out.
So, the dilemma is, how do I get the Mail app back for her? And if the machine WILL accept a higher OS than 10.5.8, how can I do it without a working DVD drive(I assume the fact that no "software updates" are found means that I can't download and use an installer for 10.6 and that I'd need to do via an actual OS disc (I may have my old Leopard disc around here somewhere, or I can borrow one). How can I repair the disc w/o a working DVD drive?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You can do a lot on a Mac connected to another Mac in Target Disk mode. Both Macs need firewire ports, and you need a fw cable.
    Here are the innstructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
In TDM the old MB's hard drive is on the desktop of the other Mac. You can do whatever you want to that drive, include repairing, installing, running Disk Warrior ... It is exactly like any other external drive.

  • Mail app freezes after first use on iPad 3 and ios 8.1.  How to solve?

Apple mail app freezes after first use after reset.  iPad 3 and IOS 8.1.  How do resolve?

    Hi, sixfinger.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try forcing all applications to close and restart the device.  Once this is done test to see if the Mail app functions correctly.

  • Attachments not in Mail app iOS 7

We switched to a new server. And imported all mails form the old account. Now in Mail all the attachments are shown. But on the iPad, the icon is shown that there is a attachment, but no attachemt is in the mail. This is only with the imported mails, all new mails are working correctly with the attachments. How to solve this ?

For anyone still tracking this issue, I tried baymu's suggestion of deleting all email accounts and adding them back one at a time.  Unfortunately, it didn't make a difference for me.  Both before and after taking that step, I was finding that the mail app functioned properly about 10% of the time, and the other 90% I was having the same problem as baymu -- when I selected multiple emails (whether to move, delete, flag, or whatever) the radio button adjacent to each of the selected emails would stay filled for only a couple of seconds.  During this time, the options at the bottom of the left column (Mark All, Move, and Delete) were active and showing in blue font.  After a couple of seconds, the radio buttons would no longer show the previosuly selected emails as selected, and the Move and Delete options at the bottom were inactive (i.e., in gray font).can suggest somethi
I haven't been able to identify any common characteristics for the 10% of the time it works properly or the 90% of the time it doesn't, so I'm now stumped.  Unless anyone else can mmake a suggestion, I'm stumped -- will just have to deal with actions on multiple emails on my iPhone, which I have not yet upgraded to iOS 7.
    Suggestions??

  • GMail issues on iPhone built in mail app

    Hi all,
Not sure if this is a Gmail / iPhone Mail-wide issue, but hoping it is.
I have an iPhone 4 (original) with iOS 7.1.  Today, my built-in mail app had issues receiving mail, got some kind of 'cannot connect to Gmail IMAP' error most of the day.  It now seems to be able to connect, but my inbox has become frazzled.  I can basically only see the two most recently received messages.  Every other message I can see in my inbox is an e-mail I have sent (in the list below the two most recent messages I've received).  I can't see any of the other messages I've received, scrolling down the list only shows the ones I've sent.  It's driving me nuts!  I have removed my Gmail account and re-added it, same problem.  I've logged into Gmail on the web and everything looks fine, I've even checked on my computer via the Apple Mail app and it all looks alright.  Just the iPhone mail...not sure what is up.
Any ideas?  Hoping some other people have experienced a similar issue!
    Thanks.

Any ideas, guys?  I had a similar issue on iOS 6 but the move to iOS 7 fixed it.
Yesterday, I moved a whole bunch of e-mails from my Gmail archive (on the web interface) to my inbox.  Now my Mail app on iPhone is missing a whole chunk of my e-mails....not sure how to fix this!
Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thanks.
EDIT: I should add, when I cycle to the All Mail folder, I can see everything as normal...but the inbox in the Mail app is missing all e-mails from before yesterday evening, choosing to show only those that are from months ago (and even then, they're just ones I've sent, all the received ones are missing).

  • HT201342 Are there any setting or some way to show notifications for new email without open Apple Mail app ?

Are there any setting or some way to show notifications for new email without open Apple Mail app ?
You know , I am an OCD . I alway's close my Mail app and miss many important new emails .

What I do is open the Mail.app, then click the red traffic light (upper left corner of the main Mail.app window) to close that window. The app itself will remain running and you will get updates - this helps keep the desktop tidy while while the mail app remains running. When an update is received, simply click the either the mail icon in your dock or go to the Mail.app menu and click Window > Message Viewer.

  • Archiving mail on mobile does not reflect the archived state on Mail.app - it stays in "Inbox"

I am using the latest MacBook Pro on the latest Mavericks. The rest of Mail.app seems to work fine, but I have this very annoying problem.
I use multiple devices for email - my iPad, my Android phone, etc. The whole point of IMAP is that you can do this, without issues.
When I archive a message on mobile, it does not reflect as archived on Mail.app, no matter how many times I restart Mail.app. I even took it offline, then back online a few times.
This is specifically for gmail and Google Apps email accounts. Any ideas?
    thanks
    Amit

    Same problem here.
I have several imap email accounts. They are different. Some are Gmail, some iCloud, some custom, etc...
When I archive, reply, delete, etc... emails on my Mac using Mail.app, they reflect on the iPhone. But when I do the same on the iPhone and get back to the computer, they don't reflect that way on Mail.app
I miss Mail.app that was in Mountain Lion. I didn't have this problem before.

Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Attachments missing in mail.app

I have noticed the following problem with an imap account:
I am looking at a message that has an attachment but the attachment is not shown in mail.app. In its place there is a generic graphic with a question mark. I right-click, choose "Download Image" but nothing happens. When I log onto may email account using a web browser and check the same message, the attachment is there (a bmp graphic, in this particular case). This doesn't happen with all messages that have attachments but I've noticed it at least twice in the past couple weeks (and perhaps more often, but I generally ignore attachments).
    Themis

I have the same problem: I use Mail with an imap server (in fact, exchange), and after upgrading to snow leopard quite often messages in Mail don't show the attachment; I DID figure out that if I rebuild the mailbox, as also suggested by others, the missing attachment is no longer missing and I can download it; rebuilding the mailbox is not such a problem, but, still, this is an irritating behavior; interestingly enough, if I check my mail on my iPod Touch, attachments are always there, but when I check it again on my macbook pro or mac pro they don't appear any longer

  • Mail app marked an email as junk, missed job opportunity. How can I fix this?

I pipe my school email to my gmail account, which I use the mail app to view. It usually works nicely, but I was going through my junk folder and noticed I missed a job opportunity because mail app sent it to junk. This has never happened before. I am so frustrated now, and I just want to fix it, or if its a bug, blame it on somebody lol. But seriously, this is unacceptable. I'm out of a much needed job now. Please help before I lose another one!

Maybe you just need to go to Mail > Preferences > Junk and do some more serious configuring, perhaps using the Advanced options, or at minimum, leaving Junk in your Inbox. Anyway, without seeing the email, it's hard to know why it may have been sent to Junk in the first place--too many links, maybe. (Sorry this happened to you though!)
