Mail app gone

mail app is gone.  can't find using spotlight

Insert you OS X installer DVD.  Go to the Optional Installs folder and launch the Optional Installs package installer.  You can then select Mail for reinstallation.  You will then need to re-install the 10.6.7 Combo Updater that you can download from support.apple.com/downloads/.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • Mail.app signatures and rules gone after update

After updating to OS X 10.9.4 and Mail.app 7.3 all my mail signatures and rules are gone.
If I now recreate those rules and signatures they are gone when I restart.
I have tried repairing permissions in disk utility. It has not restored my lost configurations nor does it allow me to maintain preferences across restarts.
I do not have Time Machine backups, all my data is with Google. The only things on my computer which are not on Google are things like this Mail client configuration.
Has anyone else lost this configuration and been able to restore it?

  • My Mail.app has been reset to default. All mailboxes gone!

I guess some file containing Mail.app settings got corrupted. Now when I open Mail all of my mail accounts/mailboxes are gone!!
Of course I haven't got a backup of my Mail preferences file... sigh
The Mail folder ~/Library/Mail/ still contains all of my mailbox folders.
Please tell me there's some way to get these imported along with the respective server settings. All I can find is "Import Mailbox" but that's not what I want, in that case the imported mailboxes will appear under a folder namned "IMPORTED" - don't want that. I want them back under the main "Inbox".
    Heeeelp!

    Hello Daniel.
    Do the following.
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file.
Note: Deleting or moving the com.apple.mail.plist out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder from the Desktop.
And now is the time to backup the new com.apple.mail.plist file with the Mail.app quit when doing so. If this happens again (which it shouldn't happen often - I've never experienced the same with Jaguar, Panther or Tiger), you can replace the existing com.apple.mail.plist file with a good working copy from your backup with the Mail.app quit before doing so. This won't require re-entering all email account information.
What is your hard drive capacity and available free space or if the hard drive is partitioned, your boot volume capacity and available free space where your Home folder/directory is located?

  • Newly installed Mail app has just gone WILD!!!

Everything was fine in Mail until I created a new accounts for my new MobileMe email address. Now I have these problems:
    1. I can no longer send mail from the .mac aliases, only from the main account. My password, even though identical to the main password, is not accepted on the aliases.
    2. I am getting two, three or more copies of every email, and not just new ones; even my emails from last year are being duplicated.
    3. When I receive email from one particular address I get a copy every second or so, without limit. This makes my computer very hot and I have to dispose of the extras quickly and then quit as soon as possible. It's a mail merged email with an embedded rota which I have generated myself from a website I help to run and has always performed perfectly well in the past. My internet connection appears to be running at normal speed, however. Today I sent one which appeared as sixteen emails before I clicked the triangle to open the folder. It then became 164! Rebuilding the mailbox has little effect. I think it may have stopped one message duplicating but it certainly didn't work today.
The scariest part of all this (apart from losing email like I'm keeping it in a colander) is that while this email is busy multiplying in my inbox, a selection of my 2008 emails is being sent to people on the list; in the middle of the duplicating file mayhem my husband 'phoned from work to complain that he was receiving my old email at the same sort of rate that I was receiving copies of the rota.
And then my daughter complained the same was happening to her. And then I found I'd had it all emailed to me as well - so now the old emails I haven't lost are sitting there, apparently unread, with incorrect dates and five or six copies of each one! I'm wondering how many of my friends have been treated to a selection of fifty or so of my old emails and what I might have written about them in 'confidence'! Not that I'm given to mouthing off about people in emails but without reading them all I wonder just what might be in them.
    4. When I try to delete the second, third and fourth copies of other emails I will suddenly find that other unselected emails, usually from just below in the list, have disappeared along with them and I have to retrieve them from the trash. The alternative is to click 'Undo' but I have to do that about three times before the missing file reappears - and then I have to try and re-delete three files without losing any others in the process. This is hopeless - it's one step forwards and three steps backwards. I also have to memorise which files are around the one I wish to delete before carrying out the action so I will know if anything else has gone.
    5. A few days ago I tried to open Mail and found that ALL my email for this year had disappeared. I found some mail from mid July to August in the bin, but all my other 2008 mail was gone. 2007 is still there. I opened it today and found that a random remnant of my 2008 email was in my inbox, but only about a twentieth of the original contents.
    6. I'm so glad I still have Entourage installed on my old computer because it's working just fine, apart from the issue I've outlined under point 1. I've retrieved all sorts of important emails from it.
This copy of Mail should be working very well. I only did a fresh system install on a new hard drive about a month ago and everything else is working fine (except a couple of finder windows that just vanished suddenly the other day).
Sorry this is long but I've tried to put several entries into one post. I originally posted this on the wrong forum - it was for MobileMe Mail, but I didn't notice the enclosing folder which was MobileMe on iPhone and iPod Touch; I am using MobileMe on my MacBook Pro. Space Herpes suggested I repost it on this forum to get more help. I had six copies of the email notification of his post so I am going ahead as this HAS to get sorted!

I've left it for a few days before responding because for some reason I hardly got any email for a couple of days and it didn't seem to be completely fixed at first as my rules took a while to kick in again and some junk appeared in my inbox. I've also been too busy to worry about it this week - daughter is starting Uni at the weekend and it's all a mad panic to set her up to move out! Apologies that I posted this on the first thread where this question went before I was prompted to move it to a more appropriate place. I didn't realise I was on the wrong board.
I have had a fair amount of messages today and I'm pleased to say I've only had one copy of everything and the subjects are back to normal - so thank you very, very much as you seem to have solved my problems. I notice that I only have the account for my [email protected] email address and I do wonder whether I need to have an account for the xxxxxx.me.com address as well? Was that possibly responsible for some of the duplicates? Are they interchangeable in Mail?
Despite the fix I do still have the corruption in my inbox, though. I've lost many, many emails and all the problems I mentioned before seem to be permanent in my 2008 mail. I have loads of duplicate copies and the subjects are all mixed up. I also have quite a few recent messages that didn't get downloaded from the server because it thought I was offline.
On my old computer I have everything as it was before. Would it be possible to copy them across somehow without losing my sent mail from this computer - or should I just be content to go to my old computer if I want to refer to anything I've lost?

  • All Mail.app messages (POP) gone and window will not open in new LION

I have upgraded to Lion but now all my email messages seem to have disappeared. I have tried installing Postbox and using that. It works fine but Postbox cannot seem to locate my old email messages either.
I'd prefer to use the Mail.app but cannot right now. Any clues as to what might be causing this?
    Thanks!!

    You’re welcome.
Look for additional information that may be available in the form of error messages written to the Console:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result.

Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Address Book- blank and Mail app preferences- gone! (and iphoto and firefox

    Hello,
Suddenly, my address book is blank. After starting the computer this morning, the doc came up in its basic original form. Mail app has lost its preferences (when it opens it says "You have no email accounts configured to use Mail..."). Iphoto has also lost all the preferences. The pictures and are there in the computer but they don't appear in iphoto; further, firefox also seems to have lost its preferences.
I have no idea what to do....
    Any help out there?!
    Thanks
    Omar

    Thank you for the replies.
It does appear that my contacts are in the metadata folder.
I deleted the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file and opened Address Book but it was still blank and I still could not add my contacts back. I noticed that the file did rebuild itself. I restarted and still nothing changed.
There is a second file, AddressBook-v22~.abcddb, I deleted that as well and it did not rebuild itself and had no effect.
I did make a copy of the complete folder. Any other suggestions or even just insights will win my undying loyalty. I believe this is the first awkward problem I've had with my Mac and I am really uncomfortable not knowing what is going on.
I can only think of a few things I've done since I last checked Address Book, but I don't see how it would create this problem
    - Deleted my windows partition through bootcamp
    - ran disk permissions for the first time
    - unintentionally had my contacts placed on my ipod (I have no need for them there and it really wasn't what I was trying to do)
I don't think there was anything else. Oh, yes - I purged my computer of all hidden google related files. I had already done this before but it turned out there were more more more. Geez, if a google related hidden files broke my Address Book - there are larger problems at hand than my contacts. (I did Not have my contacts synced with a google account or do I do any syncing with any mobile devices at all)
Also, I do not have any AV software.
    Thanks again.

  • Mail app has gone cuckoo again

My mail has stopped downloading from my ISP either by wifi or 3G. There is no issue with the ISP. When I try to download it connects checks and then immediately returns me to the home screen. When I try to delete emails it does so, takes me out of the app and when I return the emails are back. This happens when I try to also delete the trash folder emails.
This has happened before so I had to take it back to factory setting and start all over again. Don't want to do this again
This happened pre 3.1.3 so I updated no change though
    Any help appreciated

I had a similar problem this morning.
The current setup has the phone syncing two IMAP mail accounts and calendar/contacts automagically with Google.
If I launched the iPhone mail app, it would briefly show, vibrate, then crash back to the main screen. This would repeat each time launching mail, and even after hard reset.
Going to the macbook pro and using the mail app to look at the mail accounts, there was one email message that did not display a body, suggesting a malformed mail.
Deleting this one mail via the laptop seems to have enabled my iPhone mail app to access that account again without crashing.
I would suggest to others having a similar issue to first consider finding and delete similar offending mails via other mail programs on their desktop/laptop.

  • Mail.app - deleted account by mistake and emails gone

    Hi all,
I accidentally deleted one of my email accounts in Mail.app and it took all the messages with it. Now, I've tried to restore the mailbox in question and the com.apple.mail file from my Time Machine backup but none of the mail associated with that account shows up in Mail.app.
I can't do a compete restore as I would loose all the mail I've received in the meantime, hence my need to only restore one mailbox (complete with it's inbox, sent folder etc)
    How do I do it?

    Just thought I'd add something.
I think there is a bug with Time Machine / Mail.app. Basically if you choose to restore a mailbox, Time Machine closes, the Dock disappears and it appears as though the Finder has crashed. It hasn't. It is doing it's thing restoring. It's a big usability fail on Apple's part this; there is no visual indication that anything is actually restoring.

  • Mac Mail.app V.2.0.5 with OSX server's email don't play well sometimes

I have my own web, FTP, and email server. (OSX 10.4.4 Server). I've been managing my own server services since AppleShare V.6 .So I've done this a few times. I have set up an account for myself "nino" on the server that people email to, you know "[email protected]".
On my laptop I have Mac Mail.app set to log onto my server, via the internet, and to get and send emails. Sounds pretty normal right? Yep, it is except four or five times since I updated the server to 10.4.4., last December, Mac Mail.app simply stops receiving email from my account. Now I'm a pretty busy guy and email is my main source of communications. Plus get a healthy amount of junk mail. So I hear that familiar beep at least twice an hour - usually a lot more. I can always when this tell when this anomaly happens when two hours go by without something arriving in Mac Mail.app.
The catch here is the server is still accepting mail for my account. I can go to web mail, which I have set-up and working fine, and new emails are there! Mac Mail.app simple stops accepting them.
    I have tried:
    restarting both machines
changing the password to my account, on both machines
actually deleting my account from Mac Mail.app, restarting and creating my account again
Nada.... I can see emails adding up in web mail....grrrrrr.
The only way I know to resolve this is to, gulp, delete my account on the Server and set it up again. This seems to work but unless I've answered messages in web mail their gone! Poof. I do like to keep good records by saving and organizing business related emails. So when this happens I'm screwed.
    Any thoughts?

  • After iOS 8 update, the mail app crashes on iPhone 4S

I've updated to iOS 8 this afternoon and now the mail app crashes.  It will open the first time after a power off and restart of my 4S but after that first time it will crash every single time I try to open it. I can only reopen it after I've done a full reboot of the phone, and then only once. Is there a quick fix or do I get to wait for an update?

I tried all of the suggested solutions mentioned in this thread, and finally did a full reset according to Apple's instructions, step by step (as an engineer and 40 year computer user I am good at that stuff).
Sorry to say after the several hour process, not one of the problems I have experienced have been solved.
IPad 2 is still running slow and choppy.
Some Apps do not even load.
Website pages will not load and result in error messages. One particularly annoying Safari error on loading a new web page is:  "a problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded".
MY iPad  2 worked perfectly for the last couple of years through several updates that performed seamlessly, but this one and the two most recent corrected updates have rendered my iPad so degraded that I don't think I will be using it much anymore. I originally bought the tablet because of it's smooth GUI and fast performance, the reliability and error free environment, and Apple's proven record for effective updates. That's all gone now.

  • Mail.app not retrieving new messages from Exchange Server

I used to use mail.app for my work email account, set up as Exchange IMAP. After upgrading to SL, I wanted to take advantage of the new exchange features, and set up an exchange account.
But now, multiple times a day, the new exchange account will just sit there, trying to fetch new mail (the spinning wheel thing in the left side menu bar). I've gone hours w/o noticing the problem, only realizing this when I check my iPhone and see dozens of new messages. Restarting fixes the problem.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    michellzappa,
All of my e-mail providers have some sort of web based access for my accounts. They identify, segregate and prevent any message marked as bounce from being downloaded to my inbox. Is this what you are describing as redundant?
Mail Scripts 2.7.10 by Andreas Amann, provides an excellent compilation of mail scripts.
I would advise that you create a new post with the title. "Can I write an applescript to automatically clean out messages on server every hour?" in the AppleScript Forum.
    ;~)

  • IPhone mail app is horrible

Not only is there a yahoo problem, but there is an apple mail app problem.  We all know that yahoo has its issues but I just noticed that after I send an email, I can't see it in the sent folder.  I open the separate yahoo app and I see the email has been sent.  Ugh!  This is getting out of control.  The most basic function of a smartphone, after making a call, is email.  Why oh why is this such a hassle???  This also happens with gmail by the way.

Just because YOU have a problem, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I'm obviously a lot more intelligent than you are based on your myopic statement.
Maybe you meant: "Just because you don't have a problem....."  Otherwise your statement makes no sense, but then again, little of what you say makes sense. All that self-assessed "intelligence" gone to waste...
The fact that I have iCloud has absolutely no bearing on the fact that I don't have your problem with Yahoo or Gmail, which I also use, as clearly stated in my first post.
Getting back to your first (mis)statement - you DO have a problem, but it's a problem in YOUR phone (or your mind) , not the Mail app.  The rest of us don't have it.  Keep in mind that the Yahoo and Gmail are IMAP accounts.  When you send email, the copy isn't put directly into the Sent mail folder on your phone.  It has to be placed there on the server, then synced to your phone.  It ALWAYS will show up on the web mail access BEFORE the phone.  That's how it is on EVERY client device (smartphone or computer).

  • IPhone Mail App showing "negative" number

Hey guys, for some reason my mail app on my iphone is showing a "negative 1" even though there is no mail. I deleted the account, re-entered all the information and it is still there. Also, when a new mail arrives it goes back to 0 (or no notification), once I delete that it goes back to -1. What's wrong? I have no clue what to do! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

    Same problem here.
I have three accounts on my iPhone. 1 GMail, 1 IMAP and 1 MS Exchange. After I disabled the GMail account the IMAP account showed a negative new-emails badge. ( image: http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3136/img0001boy.png )
I tried deleting the account and recreating it on the iPhone, but it didn't help. Also tried to re-enable the GMail account, also didn't help.
After I disabled the GMail account I watched some TED seminars using the TED application, which during one of these video's completely locked up the iPhone. I force-shut down the iPhone, started it back up again (took longer than normal). After the reboot the iPhone was showing erratic behavior (contacts would quit when pushing certain buttons, etc).
A few reboots later the erratic behaviour was gone, but I instead was left with the -2 email badge.
Hopefully this elaborate description of the events that took place will help someone locate the problem.
    - Robert
