Mail app issues

This is more of a Mail app issue, and I've posted the question on that board, but I thought I'd post it here because I'm hoping some admins might have dealt with a similar issues:
Is anyone having success with clients on Network Homes using Leopard's Mail.app and an IMAP server?
Things used to work on the same client machines under Tiger, but after upgrading them to Leopard, Mail.app flat out refuses to work.
Users with portable homes seem to have better luck.
Some symptoms:
after working fine for 15-20 seconds, preview pane gets stuck on a "Loading" message. Double-clicking the same email opens it just fine in a separate window.
auto-fill of addresses in the To: field doesn't work. (The little circle on the right just keeps spinning.)
Mail.app does not pull any new incoming messages.
Mail.app refuses to quit cleanly. Force-quitting is the only way to make it quit
Mail.app randomly needs to "Quit or Quit and Rebuild" the database.
Thanks.

  • MAIL APP ISSUE

I have a issue with the mail app in mountain lion.  In my gmail account on the mail app when i try to delete a email it goes to trash then when i delete it from there it will reapear in my inbox after 10 seconds or so. so my ? is how do i get it to not come back into my inbox once i delete it from trash.  however it gets more confusing when i go to gmails web client the email that i deleted from trash is always in the all mail category. so how do i get this email to stop appering in apples mail app inbox is my ? whould really appreciate some help with this.  This issue appeared randomly when i deleted a regular email so how might i fix this?

    Hello Karen.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index.
Delete the Envelope Index file and empty the Trash.
Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all mailboxes located in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail. Select OK and allow the import process to complete.
    This should resolve the problem.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully imported, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder from the Desktop.

  • Crazy mail.app issue

So I just got a new macbook pro. I am time machine to restore old files. I restored my email folder, plist, and download folder, and my email messages don't show up. HOwever if I open mail.app and then open time machine I can see ALL my messages. (even on the "right now" setting on TM - which doesn't really use a backup) but if I close TM - then I can't see any of my messages. This is both messages in my "inbox" and message folders on my mac.
Can someone please help?? I really can't loose my messages.
    thanks

    Rick,
Your issues go deeper than that.
You have copied all of the system folders from your old computer to your new one. Until you address this major error, you will continue to experience issues.

  • Odd mail app issue on iPhone 4...

...little oddity that started with the mail app and exchange server. So I entered my Exchange server info into the mail settings and the settings were verified. All folders synced up and all was well.
About a week later, things went awry. This is where it gets odd. All of a sudden my battery was draining and phone started heating up. Turned off Push and all was well. Now the mail will not sync with Exchange anymore... EXCEPT when I read a message online (Exchange Web Client)... POOF it appears on the phone.
I have deleted the account and added it back to mail app. Still will not sync unless message is read online.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yet another troll tactic to tell anyone refuting their undocumented claims to leave the thread. You have no say who posts here, and i have no interest whether you respond.
I follow the 4.3 beta Dev forums and this is not a topic being discussed there. Instead of vague, claims about what anonymous "colleagues" said, why don't you post the Apple bug report number, attached to all bugs under investigation.
While you're at it, why don't you post a link to another significant thread in this or any other forum on the topic, instead of lame, a-h remarks.

I updated to 10.5.4 today and now mail.app changes certain symbols in links that show up in emails. I

    FWIW, from RFC 3986:
    2.1. Percent-Encoding
A percent-encoding mechanism is used to represent a data octet in a
component when that octet's corresponding character is outside the
allowed set or is being used as a delimiter of, or within, the
component. A percent-encoded octet is encoded as a character
triplet, consisting of the percent character "%" followed by the two
hexadecimal digits representing that octet's numeric value. For
example, "%20" is the percent-encoding for the binary octet
"00100000" (ABNF: %x20), which in US-ASCII corresponds to the space
character (SP). Section 2.4 describes when percent-encoding and
    decoding is applied.
    pct-encoded = "%" HEXDIG HEXDIG
The uppercase hexadecimal digits 'A' through 'F' are equivalent to
the lowercase digits 'a' through 'f', respectively. If two URIs
differ only in the case of hexadecimal digits used in percent-encoded
octets, they are equivalent. For consistency, URI producers and
normalizers should use uppercase hexadecimal digits for all percent-
    encodings.
What are some specific URLs Mail is now breaking?

  • How to enable logging for mail.app in Mountain Lion

I am at my wits end trying to figure this out....
Does anyone have a clue how to enable the logging for mail.app under Mountain Lion?
In the past, you could open up Console and click on Console.log and see the logging of mail. Under mountain Lion, there is no more console.log. I cannot figure out how to enable it.
I have tried to run the AppleScript of "Turn On Logging" but the script errors out under Mountain Lion.
Does anyone know how to do this or a better way, maybe a tool or something that can help you troubleshoot mail.app issues?
    Thanks in advanced

    Hello,
I have a similar problem. The script "Turn on Logging.scpt" runs without error, but I do not see any socket logging. I only get two messages, which I also get when I start mail without the script by just clicking the mail.app icon in the dock. The Messages are:
    1/10/13 3:43:32.618 PM Mail[11276]: Using V2 Layout
1/10/13 3:43:36.388 PM Mail[11276]: *** -[IADomainCache init]: IA domains cache is out of date.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • No emails in mail.app

    Hello,
mail.app act weird since a few weeks. It doesnt show the emails for one particular account I have.
Everything syncs, it shows the new mails I receive, but when I click on the mailbox, its empty.
At some point, when I restarted the computer, it became fine, but its like this (look  at the attached pic)
    all the time.
On the outlook website and on my iphone, everything works perfectly. So it's mail.app issue.

    Glad I could help.
If you ever run into similar issues (many months or years from now), a rebuild may help.  But you shouldn't need to do it any time soon.
Enjoy your Mac and Mountain Lion.

  • Mail in continuous "Synchronizing with Server" (all mail, not just Mail.app)

Since upgrading to 10.9 Mavericks, Mail (Apple) continually syncrhonizes with the servers. I have a plethora of folders stored via iCloud (IMAP). When it gets to the end, there's a short lull but, if I do anything else, the process starts again. (Viewable via Mail's Activity Window (Cmd-Opt-Zero).)
It always synchronizes of course, but it used to be in the blink of an eye, and (seemingly) not each and every folder.
I thought it was a Mail only issue, but I downloaded Airmail from the Mac App Store to give it a whirl, and the problem is the same: it synchronizes with the server continuously. As with Mail, when it gets through with the last folder, there's a pause, and it starts up again.
When it was assumed to just be a Mail.app issue, it was one thing, but now it appears its a universal mail issue. I've done some research, and I know Gmail users are feeling the pain, but I don't have Gmail -- my only account is my mac/me/icloud one.
Some have suggested it's a bug with Mail, but wouldn't my issue with Airmail rule that out? Others have posted that the issue is with Spotlight and how it indexes mail messages for search. (FWIW, I've unchecked "Mail & Messages" in Spotlight but it doesn't seem to have helped the issue.)

I don't know if this is the exact same problem.  I sync my Gmail and my iCloud mail accounts on the Mail program.  Since upgrading to Mavericks, whenever my Mail program is being used, it is constantly notifying me about VIP mail in my mail box -- over and over again, the same mail items. It's annoying, and I assume this pointless activity is also affecting performance at the margins.  How do I shut this off but still get notified when I get NEW mail from VIPs?

  • Upgraded to 10.4.9 now cant receive or send emails using Mail.app

I just upgraded to 10.4.9 from 10.2.8 and now the new Mail.app(v2.1) can't receive or send emails.
"Sent" emails only get to the Outbox for trying again later.
"Get Mail" is answered after 20 seconds with an error stating among other things "The attempt to read data from the server "xxx.xxx.xx.x" failed"
I connect to the internet through ethernet which is connected to my work's server setup. Ethernet is at the top of the list of the Network Config Options.
Tried removing the Mail preference file and reentering settings - after settings added, says the server cannot be found.
It's a Mail.app issue as accessing the web is no problem, sending and receiving mail using Eudora and Thunderbird is no problem.
The problem occurred after I went to 10.4.9 as I received an email in the short time I was on 10.4.6.
Tried reinstalling Mail from install disk but it didn't want to install an older version of the program it seems.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 1.8Ghz Uniprocessor   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Mac OS X 10.4.7 introduced connection issues in Mail similar to what you’re observing as a result of (according to the documentation) “Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy”. If that’s the problem, it can usually be fixed by going to System Preferences > Network, choosing the network port configuration used to connect to Internet from the Show popup menu and disabling the SOCKS Proxy in the Proxies section, if it’s enabled.
And while you’re at it, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

  • Mail.app Stripping File Extensions

    Greetings,
I have had a very odd issue with Apple Mail stripping away file extensions from the end of attachments. Several folks I send to have issues opening these attachments and have to add the suffix onto the end of the filename (and yes they were on the end when sent). They are using both Macs and Windows boxes.
I have tried to correct the issue in numerous ways including:
    - Defaulting Mail to send Windows friendly attachments
    - Defaulting my OS to always show file extensions
    - Trying numerous SMTP servers
    - Trying both my .Mac account and Earthlink account
    - Using different ISPs to send on all of the accounts and servers listed above
    - Sending in both RTF and plain text messaging
The only way I have been successful in retaining the suffix has been to send through both the Earthlink and .Mac webmail services. The test file I have been using then arrives with no issues.
All of the above makes me pretty sure it is a Mail.app issue. I am about to install Entourage (ick) but would prefer to find a solution. After lots of searching I am throwing it out there to see if anyone else has had the same issue.
    Any thoughts?
PPC iMac and MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

OK, here is the latest. Anyone else feel free to pipe in with possible solutions!
    - Sending to a Mac and receiving in Mailsmith from Mail.app results in the file extension being stripped away. The person I sent to has no issues with anyone else sending her files
    - Sending to the same Mac and using Mail instead of Mailsmith results in the extension being preserved.
    - I set up Outlook Express on my Parallels partition and it seemed to preserve the extension when I sent it from Mail.
So it looks like there is some issue with Apple Mail and some e-mail clients. The ones I know I have had problems sending to are Mailsmith on Mac and Goldmine on Windows. At this point I am thinking it is not a server based problem.
If anyone has any possible solutions I would appreciate the input.

  • Essentials reports not displaying on Windows [RT/x86] 8.1 Mail app

I had a Surface RT with Windows RT 8.1 and have recently switched to an ASUS Transformer Book T100 with Windows 8.1, and on both systems I had the Windows Store apps all up-to-date. Something in the (HTML?) formatting of the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
health report is causing it not to display properly in the Mail app on Win8.1. I basically just get a couple headings with a ton of white space and no real body text or images.  There is no download option to download the content of the message either.
I also have a Nokia Lumia 920 and the reports display just fine on it.
    Why isn't this working?
I didn't check the version of the mail app on the Surface, but on the T100, it's 17.4.9600.16384.
Just FYI:  I love the "My Server" app, but I do have a few qualms about the Windows Store Remote Desktop app.

    Hi,
Thanks for posting in the forum.
Regarding the current issue, it may be related to a Windows 8 mail APP issue, you’d better ask in the Windows 8 forum. We will have a better assistance there.

  • Endless retrieving of POP mail - Mail.app

    Hi all, &, yes, help!
Since Monday this week every time I open Mail.app, it starts as usual retrieving new messages on my POP accounts (6 different accounts). Problem is that after retrieving one or two (always the same ones) on the server, it cannot download any other mail. When opening the control window ("visualiseur d'activités" in French), I see that the retriecing tasks are blocked (indication of number of messages to be retrieved, but striped blue and white bar frozen). The retrievign never ends, and I have to force quit the app otherwise it won't close.
I have checked all the account settings, there is absolutely no problem of connection and/or firewall, and I used a temporary alternative (PowerMail) to download the blocked messages - this worked fine, thus it really is a Mail.app issue.
I definitely don't want to switch to PowerMail (far less user-friendly interface and my whole e-mail filing is pretty well organised in mail.app).
Has anyone experienced a similar problem - and is there a solution?
    Thanks in advance, folks!

    Hi Sheriff296.
Not sure what you mean. You appear to be saying that all your 6 POP accounts have the same problem, but describe it as if it only happened to one of them. Could you please clarify what the situation is exactly?
Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. Solving this problem may require removing one or more messages from the server. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings for this account?
You may tell Mail to remove from the server all the messages that have already been downloaded by means of Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. Alternatively, you may use the Account Info window to remove specific messages from the server — choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailbox list in the main Mail window. And if the account allows web access, you may also remove messages from the server that way.
Try removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded and/or the first message not downloaded yet (i.e. the message that Mail appears to be choking on).
You may want to try to download those messages with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them — and use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to import them back into Mail afterwards if you wish.

  • Suggestions regarding mail app hang ups

My 2006 iMac with Tiger now upgraded to Leopard is having mail app issues. When I open up the mail and it begins to search for new messages for the multiple accounts I have, the little spinning arrow goes on and on and then I get the little triangle with the lightning bolt in it indicating account is offline. Then sometimes I can quit the mail app and others need to force quit. Then eventually, it works and my mail is retrieved.
I contacted my ISP since I recently switched from a POP to IMAP. They said that switching had nothing to do with it and to prove it, they had me set up Entourage and to see if it goes off line there as well when attempting to search and retrieve new mail. It didn't. So the problem is with Apple Mail App.
I don't want to delete app unless that is a last resort. Anybody have any suggestions as to the problem or what might be done to help with the situation. I'd used Apple Care but of course that's expired to bring my computer in for the professionals to look at it...
Thanking all in advance for their input.

Well, I found what was making Mail.app choke. A MacInTouch post proposed deleting the file named "LSMMap2" in the Library>Mail folder. I did that, and now everything is fine. LSMMap2 is related to junk-filtering, and in retrospect I see that all the messages that mail.app choked on were the sort of ones it normally thinks are junk.
(I turned off junk filtering as well. No one said that you had to turn it off to make this work, but my email provider has a good spam filter already, so I decided not to complicate things.)
Please note that, if you do this, your Mail.app junk filtering will be reset -- that is, it will forget whatever you taught it when you marked messages as spam or not spam. (The descriptions of what has been declared junk and not-junk are stored in LSMMap2 and LSMMap.) So you might want to just drag it to the desktop to start with, instead of deleting it straight-off, in case it is not the culprit after all.
