Mail app - Metro Windows 8 - HELP

I am trying to setup a user on the Metro Mail app on Windows 8 but keep on receiving the same error:
unable to connect. ensure that the information youve entered is correct
The user can connect to Outlook without any issues, and can connect to OWA without any problems, I am assuming this should just work:
I have entered email address, password, domain, server address, username and it fails each time, not just one user for all 5 users apart from 1 user which is working fine which is strange.  Why should one user work if they have the exact same setup
as all other users???

Hi,
This may be occurring due to one of the following:
You may be including “https://” in the server address field when setting up your account.
Add the email address without https://
Your computer’s date and time may be incorrect.
Check and correct your computer’s date and time.
Check and correct your computer’s time zone settings.
Your computer may not meet the Microsoft Exchange server’s security requirements.
The most common reasons why your PC might not meet the Microsoft Exchange server’s security equirements for this account:An administrator account on your PC doesn’t have a password. All administrator accounts must have a password.
Please follow this guide to setup your Mail App:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/mail-app-tutorial
Since this the forum for Outlook, if above didn't fix the issue, you can post your question to the Windows Client forum for further assistance:

  • How to fix the positions of two Mail.app viewer windows on the screen?

I use Mail.app as my main IMAP Mail application. I work with two Mail viewer windows which I position on the screen so that the upper window shows the Inbox and the lower window the Send-box. The windows are aligned to each other and do not overlap. Fine.
But when I quit Mail.app and open the program again, the windows have forgotten their postions. They "jump" to a new location on the screen. This is in contrast to all other applications I use. Another bad example of window managment is the Mail.app-Preferences window which also does not stick to a given position.
Is this a (known?) bug or does it only happen on my Macs? (two: one in the office, one at home, both running 10.4.6)

I guess the difference is that my description text is longer.
Try this text for a new rule:
"From: blacklisted senders 1 - move to SPAM-blacklisted-addresses"
When you want to see this text completely with the default font, you will need to enlarge the Preferences window for "Rules". After that, click to "Signatures": the window stays at the enlarged width. Then click on any of the other areas in Preferences, and the window goes back to the "normal" width. When you then click on either "Signatures" or "Rules", the Preferences window will stay at the "normal" width (resulting in a truncated display of the rule description text).
Also: when you have moved the Preferences window to a position not covered by a (large) viewer window to access it with a mouse click, close the window and re-open Preferences, it is back to a position covered by the viewer window. Again not accessible when the viewer window is the front-most Mail.app window. BTW: the "Activity viewer" window does a better job in sticking to a fix position.

  • Apple script for Message box when Mail app Compose Window Opens

    Hi there
I'm trying to make mail app remind me to choose the right emaill address to send from since I have several email addresses. Is there a way I can make or write an apple script for a message box to pop up whenever mail app's compose window opens up.
I can do for the case when I actally click the compose button when I'm on mail app by using UI scripting. But when it comes to hyperlinks which opens up the compose window, it fails.
I just want a script to see whether the compose window is open and if open pop up a message box.
    Thanks
    Best regards

By the way, the problem happens with the account of MS Exchange service, I don't know if this is the cause of the problem.
I think yes.  The encoding is being corrupted somewhere, probably Exchange.  There is nothing you can change on the iPad other than the OS languagel, to see if that helps.  You can also tell Apple at

  • Lotus Notes and mail.app question please help me

    Hi all,
I just started Med. School at a school with a computer requirement. As a huge mac person, I'm very upset that we are required to use windows computers for school. So...I'm trying to use my mac as much as possible. I'm trying to find out how to sync my lotus notes email with mail.app on my mac. Does anyone know how to do this? Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • IPad mail app freezing, need help

I've experienced my Mail app freezing twice in last two weeks in the middle of writing a mesage. I can't save it as a draft nor can send it, can't move to another folder. But if I leave the Mail app and go to gmail app it works. Anyone knows what's happening?
Thank you in forward for your help!

Have you tried the simple basic things?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart.Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button.Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
It is possible that you have an email in your inbox or trash folder that is causing the problem as well. Maybe an email with large attachment? If you have an email like that - try deleting it from the iPad. You may need to do that from the server in your webmail using a web browser if the mail app keeps frezzing on you.

  • Migrate FROM mail.app TO windows (thunderbird or outlook)

I'm moving back to a windows machine after using a mac (quite happily) for about a year. Please do not comment on my decision; that is not the point of this post, nor is it my wish to filter out all the criticism I will most likely receive.
What I need to do is export my considerably large Mail library (4 accounts and years worth of archived emails) from Mail.app to an XP-compatible format. I don't yet know which email program I'll use on the PC, but I can do either Thunderbird or Outlook. or something else, if there's a better one. I'll buy a shareware migration program, if that's the best idea. I can also migrate to Thunderbird on my mac first, and then from there to the windows machine.
thanks in advance, and I again request that replies stay on-topic.

for mail are your accounts imap? if so, then you just need to create the imap account(s) in either thunderbird or outlook and you should be in business. if you do not have an imap account, may i suggest you get one - gmail imap is free for example - then create it in mail.app, then move your emails/mailboxes to that new gmail imap account, then go to your pc and create that gmail imap account in either thunderbird or outlook...
for ab, may i suggest you look at plaxo: http://www.plaxo.com, and maybe set up an account with them - i think the basic one is free - once all your contacts are uploaded to plaxo, you can choose to sync them to your other client, i.e. outlook for example.
    hope this helps

  • Mail.app Strangeness - Please Help!

    Hello,
We are using 6 Intel Apple MacBooks in our office (4 of which are running 10.4 and the other 2 running Leopard) and have been having some strange problems with e-mail and Mail.app. Everything was working fine for several months and then all of the sudden on the same day, all of the computers stopped being able to send mail (although they could all still receive). To fix this, I trashed everyones 'com.apple.mail.plist' file and set up their accounts again - everything was working again, until the next morning, when the same problem happened again. Of the 6 machines that I fixed this on the day before, 4 of them were not sending again, and 2 still worked fine (of the ones that still work fine, one is running Leopard and the other 10.4 - it doesn't seem to be an OS issue). To further complicate things, I've discovered that the machines that can't send mail to other people actually can send successfully to people in our own domain (i.e. [email protected] can send to [email protected], but not to [email protected]).
Our ISP is 'Telus' and they handle all our e-mail accounts (everyones settings are indeed correct and identical to each-other). Additionally, there is an XServe running Leopard Server in the office (that has no mail services running) acting as a gateway. What is causing our e-mails to stop sending (without any error / failure notification)? I can delete the prefs and reliably fix this, but it's getting a bit ridiculous. Any help / suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
    Mike

Thunderbird did not work, but adding the new user account worked. I thought of Thunderbird, but not the new user account - thank you.
I understand what this is telling me, but I'm not exactly sure what my next step would be. Is it easier to just move everything to the new account or is it worth it to continue to troubleshoot the older account?

  • Mail apps/plugins to help file messages?

With the closure of MobileMe I have finally made the move to Lion and with it I had to finally put Eudora to rest...
There was a great feature in Eudora where you could simply right click on a highlighted word in an email in your Inbox and it would provide you with a list of recommended folders wherre the email could be transferred to, very simple and efficient.
I have come across a few apps for Mail that seem to do the same thing:
    Email Filing Assistant
    Mail Act-On
Can anyone make any recommendations on these or other filing tools?
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm not sure they're necessary?
Mail in ML has an "Archive" button which can easily move it to a folder.  Or there is the "file" toolbar button which gives you a dropdown of all your mail folders and you can easily file it away.
Personally, I've done away with all folders save one called "Archive."  I file EVERYTHING there and then just use Spotlight to find my messages.  It's way easier than trying to maintain a complicated filing structure that is rarely sufficiently flexible as to be useful.

    Hello,

    Hi Ned,
Thanks for the prompt response and help. This is the mailto code I'm trying to implement into my existing code with no luck:
    var linkToEmailAddress:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mailto:[email protected]");
    email_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, emailAddress);
    function emailAddress(event:MouseEvent):void
        navigateToURL(linkToEmailAddress);
I've changed the "email_btn" to "contact_mc" and tried a bunch of other things too.
Your advice made sense to me so I'll go over it again with a fine comb and see if I can work it out.
Any other tips on how and where to paste the mailto code above would be much appreciated.
If the ball is in my court now, I will keep at it, and hope to get it right.
    Thank You,
    Kavi

Cioa rioda

  • Encoding problems in email while on Windows Mail app

    Hello.
I have a question concerning email and encoding problems in the Windows Mail App in Windows 8.1.  I have encountered a problem with an email I received, while reading, I see strange ASCII characters in one email.  I have never encountered it in
my web browsers nor Gmail, just the Mail App.
I was referred to come here when I had asked a similar question there:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-ecoms/strange-foreign-ascii-characters-appearing-in/911f8a44-c302-4fa1-bcaa-3297b32d9120
I don't know which forum to go to so I picked here.
Is there any way that it can be resolved.  I tried to troubleshoot, nothing worked; I even synched, to no avail.
I look forward to a response.
    JB

    Hi JB,
The responder on answers was a bit confused. The MSDN forums are for developers to discuss writing their own apps. We cannot help with problems using Windows or its built-in apps.
If the folks on answers cannot help then you may need to open a support incident. See
http://support.microsoft.com , or the folks on answers may be able to direct you to the specific page for the Windows Mail app.

  • How to troubleshoot Windows 8 Mail app connectivity issues with Google Business Apps?

My company went to Google Apps last year. I am unable to connect Mail App on Windows 8 to my corporate Google account. I am using m.google.com for server with SSL enabled, but no luck. I also enabled bit locker as my company policy requires device encryption.
Mail App does not give a clear error message. It simple states that this PC does not meet security policies enforced by Google. Please advice. I already made peace when my Nokia Lumia 920 running windows phone 8 does not connect to Google
apps because of a bug that would not turn on device encryption unless requested by Active Sync and it would not turn on with Google sync.
These are annoying issues that Microsoft must fix to gain enterprise support. Here are the settings from my mobile settings page:

Answer is of no use. I tried all the forums and websites. I am not able to connect to corporate google apps because it requires SD card encryption. How do I enable this on windows 8.
Please discuss this with your boss and other peers before answering. This is an advanced question. I am going to paint this a little bit more..
Today's enterprise requires that most devices support device encryption and Windows Phone does support device encryption but here is the problem- there is no support for SD card encryption. Even for phones like Lumia 920 that does not have an SD card cannot
connect to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync due to a bug in the implementation.
When the policy parameter Require Encryption on Storage Card is enabled, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices misreport the presence of an SD card, even if the device has no SD card slot. The policy enforcement occurs, provisioning fails, and the device
cannot be synchronized.  You can read more on their support site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464593
This long thread on the Microsoft community is a testament to this problem:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/e...3ce3-49e4-8069-ecdccd55a5f9
This is also a problem for those enterprises that are using google apps and running Microsoft exchange activesync. Take a look at this request and policy that will throw the 85010013 error on your windows phone.
    Request :
    https://m.google.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    Server Data:Provision/Policies/Policy/Data/EASProvisionDoc/RequireStorageCardEncryption=1
Overall, I hope Microsoft fixes this issue soon

  • Synchronization office 365 and windows 8.1 mail app fails

    Hello all,
I have a Dell XPS duo ultrabook with Windows 8.1 enterprise. The laptop is part of a domain. We use Office 365 for our mail-environment. Office 365 works perfect in a browser, but I want to ad that work-mail account to the mail app in windows. Connecting
works fine, but the synchronization fails. I get the following error:
"If you xxxxxx want to synchronize, the settings of this PC should match the security policy of the email-server. Upgrade your Windows-useraccount to an administrator-account".
This is ofcourse not an option, but how do I solve this?
Btw the mail app works fine with a hotmailaccount.

    Hi,
According to your description, you are using office 365.
So I recommend you post this in Office 365 forum:

  • Windows Mail app in LAN-Network "e-mail address not available"

    Hello,
I have a Problem with the Windows Mail app at Windows 8.1. Everything works normally at home, but when I try to update mails at university I get the message "e-mail address not available", but Hotmail works fine. I have four more addresses synced,
none of these is updated while I am logged in at university.
So when I start my computer, I have to log in in the University network via IE, there is also a timeout after an hour or so.
I have to go access my mails in the browser, but that is quite bothersome with four e-mail addresses.
Anyone who has an idea how to solve this?
UPDATE: OneDrive does also not sync. It says all Files are up to date, but there are not. If I try to download files via Onedrive App, I get the error message "Currently, the file can't be opened. An Error ocurred with OneDrive."

    Hi,
How about your problem now? Is your Mail APP still works properly in your home? According to your description, it's should your School network problem. Is your IE enabled any network Proxy when you using it at school?
