Mail.app - Multiple mailboxes on same AD-account

Mod may move my question the the right section of the community.
Hello,
Trying to set up my work-mailboxes in the Mail-app. I have my personal email ([email protected]) but also several other mails (for example: [email protected] och [email protected]) that is used by more people than me. Permissions to these are controlled via the AD-account (AD\myname).
I manage to set up my personal mail ([email protected]) without any problems, but when it comes to adding the other mailboxes, mail just won't do it.
I get an error message "An error accoured trying to set up the Mail-account. An unknown error occurred"
Does anyone have any idéas on how to set up Mail with several mailboxes controlled by the same AD-accound?

Hello FRA_ALLEN.
I tried to add a new POP account c@mydomain and got a failed message
- username or password not correct.
Please, post the exact error message you get when trying to do that. To get the error message in English, go to System Preferences > International, move English to the top of the list and restart Mail.

How to update software on multiple iPhones using same iTunes account?

    SeanB15 wrote:
Here are more details on my situation which should help clarify things...
I purchased three iPhone 4 models back when they first came out (for my family) that all share the same iTunes account for access to apps and music, but each phone/user still has his/her custom contact list, email accts, and select lists of apps and music from the one iTunes acct library.  The problem is (as I understand it) that I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct without wiping out the separate contact lists, etc. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates and still be able to manage separate contact lists, etc. If I go this route, I assume we will lose all the apps on phones #2 and #3 that we have been "sharing"... correct? Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Hopefully, one of you can help me??
we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?

  • Mail app always starts with the standard account.

    iPhone 5s
    iOS 7.1.2
Mail app always starts with the standard account.
Can´t it start in the mail overview, where all different mailboxes are shown.
    iPhone 4 did it..
    Opens in standard account:
Should open in MailBox-Overview: (here just one mailbox)
    7.1.2

After some searching I have found a solution. I had to delete the contents of the following folder:
    ~/Library/Mail/myemailaccount/.OfflineCache/
Note: replace "myemailaccount" with the appropriate folder on your computer that represents your e-mail account. Once I deleted the contents of this folder (there were 2 files), and restarted Mail, there were no problems.
Hope this helps a few people in the future!

  • Is my Gmail app on my iphone preventing my mail app from connecting to my gmail account?

Is my Gmail app on my iphone preventing my mail app from connecting to my gmail account?
Whenever I try to type in my information to my Mail app it will not verify my gmail account- it says my username/password is incorrect when it isn't.
    Please help!

it may be a two part security verification.  contact the email provider and see if you need a special password.
some users find simply changing the password resloves the issue.

  • Mail.app Different FROM ALIAS not full account change. NOT ".mac" HOW?!!

    Hey there.
So I use forwarding aliases from various domains and have no interest in stopping this. Mail.app doesn't seem to have any way to switch the FROM address (not the replyto, but the actual from address) if you don't set up an entirely new account. I thought I could get around this by just setting up another account, however mail checks to see that the account logs in properly, and if it's the same account that you have another address set to it doesn't let you duplicate it cause it doesn't want to download the same mail twice every time or something. Of ourse I just wanted to tell it not to download the mail on the second account. Anyway, I need a way to have one account that's with my ISP [email protected] or whatever that I log into, but have like 5 others that it sends from [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] etc. but since all of these addresses forward to my main mail account I can't have a separate login for each of them.
I'm getting the impreassion that everyone who uses mail is just boxed in by the concepts handed to them, cause NO ONE seems to be talking about this issue. Unless I'm a complete idiot and am missing something obvious.
I found one other account of such a problem and the person also had a .mac account so everyone told him to just switch to always using the .mac account.
    That's a totally unacceptable answer!
Anyway, I recently switched from Eudora which CAN do this with no problems. THe only problem is, eudora isn't integrated with address book, and more importantly, doesn't handle Japanese well.
If anyone can be of help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

As if it wasn't doing this before.
Well, you're right that adding aliases to a mail account has no effect on the mail that's collected there, and that the statement you quoted is misleading. Problem is, that statement doesn't appear in the Mail Help's "Adding multiple email alias addresses to an account" article I was referring to, so I had no idea what were you talking about.
I've been able to find the article you've quoted in Apple's knowledge base:
Mac OS X: Using email aliases in Mail
I agree that the last part of this article is poorly written, but it's not in Mail Help, and it doesn't appear when typing alias in Mail Help's search box as I suggested.
    I'm assuming all is well.
Let us know if that's not the case.

  • Mail app no longer recognizing my previous account

    Hello,
I had to power down my iBook G4 because it froze up-quite unusual. When I powered back up (I do encrypt my data) and tried to open my mail app, it directed to a page for setting up an account. The mail app basically does not retrieve my old mailbox. When I checked my home folder, I see my account folder. What should I do to get back to normal?

First use Disk Utility to Verify the HD, Repair Permiisions, then reboot.
    Couple more things to try...
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this folder to the Desktop then reboot...
    /Library/Caches/Mail

Move Envelope Index to the Desktop in...
    /Library/Mail/

  • The ol' "mail.app holds 3 persistent connection per account" problem.

I've seen posts from a few years ago regarding this problem. My mail host only allows a certain number of persistent connection... ok, that's my bad for cheaping out on a host, I can dig that.
But there has to be an automated way to check, and disconnect for these types of situations. It doesn't seem right to have to change isp's when mail.app could have a little checkbox that says:
"don't persist IMAP connection because of ghetto ISP".
The fraction of a second it would take to reconnect, check and retrieve headers, then disconnect is something I can live with.
Does anyone have a workaround or know of a client that allows non-persistant imap connections?
    Maybe an IMAP proxy daemon?
Any help will be rewarded by receiving the praise of all the other poor sods in the same boat. Your name will be rejoiced the world over, you will be a GOD!
    Thanks

If Mail complains that it timed out on port 0, that means there is something wrong with your network and/or account settings.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
As to the logs, Mail doesn’t make it easy to get them. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console and do either File > Open Console Log, or File > Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
Apparently, you can tell Mail to provide detailed log information as described in the following article (I haven’t tried it myself):
    Enable detailed Mail.app logging options
Also, Mail comes with a Turn On Logging AppleScript that I haven’t tried either, but that was discussed in the following thread:
    MAIL LOG???

  • Mail app intermittently fails to connect - internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password. Why?

Running 10.10.2 on early 2011 MBP, 8 GB RAM.
Mail app intermittently fails to connect - message: internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password.  No problem with iPhone to connect same 3 accounts. Have run Disk Utility and rebooted. What is happening?

Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.
The REAL REASON, which can no longer be overlooked, is that Apple's (probably underpaid sweatshop Chinese) employees build toys for grown-ups and do little more than that.  I wish I had never bought my Mac (2009) since few things about Apples are "intuitive" unless you've been an Apple cultist since Jobs introduced the first Mac.  Oh, and because things mysteriously stop working, something I don't recall happening with any of the PCs I've owned.
Apple's version of Excel is a total joke and on an update that I did not ask for, the "Save As" feature, a convention that was 30 years old and worked well, was removed in favor of "Duplicate, Rename, Save."  What 22 year-old Apple product manager was allowed to make this change?
I foolishly compounded my Mac purchase error by buying an iPhone 4S.  On that lovely ($200 Verizon-subsidized) product, I can no longer discover my home network, rendering my ($100) Airplay for outdoor music useless.  (But I probably can post a picture directly to Facebook or something!  More toyish behavior in which Apple specializes.)  Can I get support on these POS with a phone call?  No, I need to rely on a Aapl cultist to devise some esoteric key combo or a "jailbreak" on a Support board or blog site.
I'm eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/13 and I'm counting the days.  Will upgrade to a good large-screen laptop asap as well and then throw the Mac out my office window.  Junk, just junk.  Apple's stock is at $433 from $700 and it's still overpriced.  How long will this rant last before it's sanitized by the Cupertino Big Brother? Maybe what the children who design product ought to do instead is BUILD BETTER STUFF.

  • IOS8: Mail app Email Address changes in ActiveSync Account information

    Hello all!
I manage an Exchange 2010 mail system for my company, with approximately 500 mobile devices, a majority of which are iOS using ActiveSync.
Since the upgrade to iOS8, I've seen an issue in the account information for Mail app where after some time (maybe a few days) the Email address (the primary SMTP address) gets changed to the userPrincipalName (UPN) account name from Active Directory.  These are different from each other.  For our organization (and I'm sure for many others) this is a problem that comes up when the user wants to "Reply to All," the device sends the message back to the user since it thinks the UPN is a different address/account than the SMTP address.
This only came about after the upgrade to iOS8 (also apparent in 8.1) and is affecting all devices.  I can change the address to the proper primary SMTP address but it will change back to the UPN after a few days.  I'm assuming it is getting the UPN from Exchange Auto Discover, but again this didn't happen previous to iOS8 and is not affecting any other devices using ActiveSync to receive mail.
    Thank you for your help!

The problem is actually not in the capitalization of the address itself, but in the prefix of the mailbox e-mail addresses.
For example, you might have these e-mail addresses configured for a mailbox:
    SMTP: [email protected]
    smtp: [email protected]
    SIP:[email protected]
...the correct e-mail address for the account is obviously the first one in this list.  But in the configuration for this example, Exchange is sending both the "SMTP" and "SIP" as primary e-mail addresses, and iOS is displaying the SIP address, which is incorrect.
I tested this workaround and it works.  Either remove the other addresses with a capitalized prefix, or change them to "sip:[email protected]" (to match your naming convention)
    Hope this helps.

  • 2 Mail accounts in Mail.app but only 1 in Internet Accounts

Just wanting to clean up my accounts and everything I found myself confused.
In Mail.app I have 2 google accounts, the same account information. But when I try to delete one it says it's attached to my iCloud and I have to delete it from my Internet Accounts. But in my Internet Accounts there's only 1.
So any help on what the problem is?
Besides just deleting it from the Internet Accounts and having to re-sync the entire google mail account any one have any suggestions? I don't know if even just deleting that 1 would do anything more than remove 1 of the Mail.app accounts.

I have lots of personalities. (kidding)
I have a couple of personal accounts that I use frequently. Plus a generic address for my blog domain, plus a few that were created under my business (my name, sales, support, etc) that I need to monitor. Too much email of course... but still necessary.

  • Mail.app multiple acct all items in inbox disappeared without a trace

Mail.app with multiple acct all items in inbox disappeared without a trace
    iCould account
    gmail account
    exchange account
In all accounts, the Inbox contents totally disappeared, gone without a trace.  Inbox shows 0MB used for each account.  The trash had stuff in it but it didn't have the inbox items.  Get Account Info shows all the other folders have items but nothing the side of the inbox.  What was werid was my mac was running slow even with an SSD things were crawling.  I noticed mail Activity window was processing but thought it standard processing, updating inbox etc.

Well thank goodness for time machine.  I was in mail app and clicked on time machine I was able to recover 2 inboxes, one with ~3400 and other with ~1800 messages.  However, time machine is now stuck for over 12 hours on 30,682 messages.  I was able to go back to a few days ago, it loaded all the messages. I was then able to select all of them (I pressed cmd-a) and in a few hours it was then able to process the select all and show me the restore button much like the other two small mail boxes.  But its been stuck at the "Click Restore to recover the 30682 selected messages" screen.  The 12+ hours its been busy hammering away at the disk and CPU.  From what I can see, it may just be trying to process it all.  The previous two smaller restores worked so I'm hoping this one works too.

  • Mail app hangs on ios5 and gmail account

The Mail app hangs several times per day. I have one gmail account. The diag. files says something like "com.apple.mobilemail failed to resume in time" or "Power assertion timeout for MailPendingChanges"

This connectivity issue between my Apple Mail through CLEAR as ISP to Godaddy's pop.secureserver.net is just getting weirder. Now my 9 boxes spin out (when upload is testing at .07 mbps and also at .54 mbps) but partner's 4 emails on iMac using same settings through same network is fine...was glitched a while ago too though. Then partner's emails all do same thing, and hers and my Gmail accounts check fine. SO, Helllloooo Godaddy, if Gmail checks fine but your pop.secureserver.net does not, maybe it IS a problem on your end? Of course, getting Godaddy to ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM would be a miracle.
Still zero reply or help from either Godaddy or Clear, no resolution from either, still pitching blame at each other.

  • Mail app crashing when making changes to accounts

I've recently upgraded my OS from 10.5 to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
I use Mail app and have two accounts; 'work' and 'personal'. If I go the Mail Preferences and make the 'personal' account inactive Mail crashes and I get a warning message saying; 'Mail quit unexpectedly'. If I go to Mail Preferences and make the 'work' account inactive I can not close the Mail Preferences window.
I also installed Rosetta. I understand this only works when needed with legacy Power PC applications, so I presume this isn't causing the problem.
    Thanks for any help
    Mark

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I've only just had some time to look at this. I've reinstalled 10.6.3 from my CD and got the same problem. I've upgraded to 10.6.8. Same problem. I've created a 'test' user and logged into that and created my two email accounts. Same problem. I've closed all other open applications and same problem.
Mail works fine, but when I come to un-enable an account Mail either crashes or the Mail Preferences window won't shut down (the account is un-enabled but I can't close the stupid Preferences window).
I've got an Apple Tech support person phoning me at 12. I'll let you know how I get on.
    Thanks

  • AppleScript - Mail.app Multiple Users

    Hello:
Can someone guide me on how to use Applescripts to switch Mail.app between two
differant users. I read an article about a setup that is like profiles for
    Firefox or Thunderbird.
I have tried typing into Applescripts the same formular like is used for the above
to make a profile for Mail but it does not work.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi BD Aqua,
There is suppose to be a way to write a script within Applescripts for Mail
to let two users switch back & forth between there seperate e-mail accounts
withing the same Tiger account. Just like the way you can ues profile manager
    with either Firefox or Thunderbird.
My wife & I use the same Tiger with auto log-in. So we want to creat "identities"
    to use with Mail.
