Mail app no longer "speaks" English

Opened my Mail app today...and it was in Chinese!?
My International System Pref listed Chinese second to English. When I made Danish a second choice, the Mail app opened in Danish.
The Language list in the Get Info window for the Mail app no longer lists English.
Any ideas to fix this? Specifically, and obviously, how to I get English back into the app?
And another thing. The only way to quit this now foreign-speaking app is to Force Quit.
Grateful for any help.
tony

Hi Tony
sounds like the English part of Mail app has oddly vanished - you're going to have to restore it from a backup, another 10.5 mac, or reinstall it from the dvd & then run the 10.5.8 combo update.
If you like tinkering, get Pacifist from http://charlessoft.com which you can use either to grab the Mail app from the Leopard dvd, or extract/replace just the missing language parts, with any luck

Mail.app not opening.....wrong version! There has been no advice on what to do/support or explanation.
For a few months I have no longer been able to open Mail.app.
I have tried a backup older version I had, and this also does not open.
Below is the message I get when trying to open Mail.app vers 4.5 which I had download in March 24th 2011 and subsequently used.
What has happened to Mail.app? that I can no longer use it? And what can be done?

Your version of Mail didn't upgrade properly because you've moved it from its expected location location (to a sub folder you've named "APPLE apps").
Move it back into the HD/Applications folder and apply the 10.6.8 "Combo" update to fix things.

  • Mail App no longer connecting with Hotmail accounts

I have had my hotmail accounts connected to my Mail app on my iMac for years, no problem. As of yesterday the Mail App wil no longer connect with any of my hotmail accounts. It is connecting with my gmail accounts.
The error message I get is: "UNable to receive Mail: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “EKRDL” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “pop3.live.com” refused to allow a connection on port 995"
Hep anyone? What is happening here?

    You're welcome.
How the heck did you figure that one out?!
I didn't, actually. Someone else in this forum (and probably other people in other forums as well), figured it out by looking at the changes introduced by the Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update, and checking his/her own settings accordingly:

  • Mail App no longer working after 2.0 upgrade

I upgraded to 2.0 on my IPhone Edge and now my mail application no longer works AT ALL. If I try to open it, it simply shows me a blank mail screen, waits for a few seconds and then returns to the home screen. Strangely enough, I have been able to send email photos using the camera application.
Email is the most important application for me on the iPhone! Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a fix available?

I recently stopped by the apple store and have fixed my mail app! The problem as described to me was caused by a installing apps. Turns out that apps can mess with Mail setting in some way and perhaps due to a bad setting or a bad combination of settings my mail application stopped working. The way I fixed it was to do a restore to New Iphone which, unfortunately, wipes everything! But after syncing back up including re-installing all of my apps, mail works again! Of course, I lost all of my notes, various settings, and lots of other stuff. Turns out that a simple restore, since it backs up your phone beforehand (backing up bad settings at the same time) is not the silver bullet but a full restore to new iphone probably often is. Hope this helps others.

  • Mail app no longer responds on iPad 2

    Greetings to all,
Using an iPad 2, my mail app froze up after trying to send an email with 6 pictures (taken with an iPhone 6) attached.
The mail was saved as a draft.  As I tried to (re)open it for editing/finalization, the Mail app stopped responding after freezing on me.
Now the app mail app will open, but without displaying any contents and only for a few second only.  The device then returns to the home screen.
I already tried to turn the device off and back on.  I also reset it.  Finally I proceeded in an attempt to delete the account from which the mail was to be sent and reset the device again... None of the above worked. Mail just seems 'dead', unresponsive. All other apps seem to work fine.
    Any ideas/leads, anyone?!
    Thank you.

I Don't know if the app will stay open long enough to delete the email, but have you tried that?. If you can get to the draft in the preview window on the left side, swipe across the email from right to left to get the delete button to pop up. Then delete the email. I assume, as I'm sure you do by know, that one of the photos is corrupt, or something in that particular draft is causing the problems.
IF your email account is an IMAP Account, use a computer and log into your email in a browser and delete the email from there. IMAP email accounts actions will sync across devices, so that will remove it from the mail app on the iPad as well.

  • Mail app no longer groups threads after turning Push to off

    Hey guys,
My Mail application was grouping related emails/threads together. Yesterday I decided to switch to Fetch as opposed to Push to conserve battery life in general (which it DEFINITELY makes a huge difference in battery life for fetch every 15 minutes versus Push). Any idea what's happening here? I've made sure that the option to group related male is enabled in the Mail settings.
    Thanks!

  • Mail App no longer working

Last night Mail was working perfectly, as it has for many years. This morning not working. Nobody touched my computer. I did not Install or Delete anything. Did NOT make ANY changes to anything at all.
I use DeamHost for my Web Host and E-mail Service. I have contacted DreamHost Tech Support three times today already. I'm in the Chat Room again, but they cannot help me. They have no clue what is wrong.
I've tried their suggestions to Reset the Password several times. Still Mail is not working.
I even set a Different Password for each E-mail Address, but still not working.
    > I can send myself a message from my Mail App and receive it in my Mail App, BUT I cannot receive E-mail from somebody else to my Mail Application.
    > Sent a Message from both Hotmail and Yahoo to my Mail App, but did not receive either message.
I really need to Resolve this Issue soon ...... I depend on my Mail App for All of my Important E-mail (Business, Familly, Friends, Personal)
    Thanks.
    -- Jim

Finalll Resolved the Issue ... !!! As I suspected, it was something incredibly Simple .... !!!
To the right of each E-mail Account in Mail, there was a "Tilde" sign to the right, indicating that there is something wrong with that E-mail Address.
Finally, DreamHost Escalated my Issue to a higher-up Tech Support. After trying many things, most of which I had already been trying with other Techs all day long, finally the Tech told me to right click on the Tilde, and choose
    "Take Account Online"
which worked for five of the accounts, but still had issues with the last account, which finally got working.
So what could have been the cause for this Problem to Happen?
I know that somebody did hack into my E-mail Account, because the first Tech this morning gave me some of the characters to my Password (very long Password), but those characters did NOT match up with my Password!!!
Has anyone run into an E-mai Hack like this one ... ???

  • OSX 10.5.8 / Mail.app 3.6 - Mail.app No Longer Auto-Checks For New Mail

Since I upgraded to 10.5.8, Mail.app does not appear to be checking automatically for new mail. Regardless of how I set the preference (Every 1 Minute, Every 5 Minutes) it never checks for new mail, and I always have to click on "Get Mail".
I've verified this by opening the Activity WIndow and watching it for more than 5 minutes, with the preference set to 1 and 5 minutes between checks. I don't have time to test the longer intervals right now.
Mail.app is at version 3.6, modified yesterday morning at the same time that I used Software Update to apply the 10.5.8 update (from 10.5.7). I've used Spotlight to make sure that this is the only version of Mail.app on the drive.

Never mind...for the account in question, the "include this account when checking automatically" option was unchecked. Not sure how that happened...

  • Mail.app no longer connecting to localhost or 127.0.0.1 port 143

    Gentleones,
    Problem:
Mail.app cannot connect to localhost or 127.0.0.1 on port 143 in order to use an SSH-tunnelled connection to my IMAP server. It gripes that "The IMAP server '127.0.0.1' is not responding."
    Background:
I occasionally have to connect via SSH tunnel to my mail server at home to access my E-mail via IMAP and Mail.app. While I have done so for several years, within the last two weeks, something has happened that no longer allows me to do so. (I think the triggering event was upgrading the client machine to 10.4.7, but I'm not positive.)
    Troubleshooting done to date:
I can successfully open the tunnel and use TELNET to login to my server on the IMAP port, 143.
I installed the latest version of Eudora and it connects to the tunnel successfully.
I have deleted both the com.apple.mail.plist and both ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Mail Downloads folders, but that hasn't made any difference.
Anybody got any idea what is going on here?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Mail.app: need longer timeout when fetching mail

How can I set mail.app's timeout for 'get mail' to a few minutes?
A test with terminal>telnet reveals that the pop-server of my provider pauses a few minutes between the pop3 user and pass commands (doing an unsuccessfull reverse dns lookup ?). For mail.app that's too long, it gives up after 60 seconds with an error.

I think you are running low in working memory.
Close all programs that are running in the background.
    1. Double-click the Home button
    2. Hold down any icon until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close the program
    4. Reboot the iPad

  • E-mail app no longer works reliably on my Droid Turbo since the recent OS update

The native e-mail app has become unreliable since the recent OS update.  All accounts (corporate, IMAP) have incorrect "Unread" totals.  The corporate exchange account won't send e-mail.  Clearing caches, uninstall/reinstall, all the usual don't bring resolution.
I've switched to third-party e-mail apps pending what I hope will be a fix.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Thanks.

Okay, so tried one more thing and found the culprit - the problem no longer appears after I switch off 'Allow iTunes audio control from remote speakers' preference in iTunes. Apparently this problem happens due to an interaction between the AVR (Denon AVR-1912) and iTunes.

  • Mail app no longer recognizing my previous account

    Hello,
I had to power down my iBook G4 because it froze up-quite unusual. When I powered back up (I do encrypt my data) and tried to open my mail app, it directed to a page for setting up an account. The mail app basically does not retrieve my old mailbox. When I checked my home folder, I see my account folder. What should I do to get back to normal?

First use Disk Utility to Verify the HD, Repair Permiisions, then reboot.
    Couple more things to try...
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this folder to the Desktop then reboot...

  • Mobile Me Mail in Mail.app no longer downloading correctly

Since the latest update from Apple to 10.5.6 I've been having a problem with Mail.app. I leave Mail open throughout the day while I work. The only email account it uses is my mobile me - which is also set up on my iPod Touch. Since the update, and without fail - messages are pushed to my iPod (I hear the new message sound as it is docked) but are not downloaded to Mail.app. I can also log in to the me.com website and see the new message when it arrives.
If I go in to Mail I can click 'get mail' but nothing downloads. I hear the 'no new messages' sound. In order to get my new mail message I have to exit Mail and reopen it - then it downloads.
This has made Mail.app totally useless. I have to keep it closed, wait for my iPod to notify me of new mail, then open Mail to read it. This is silly - anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks for the tip, but that's a no go. By default, Mobile Me accounts have this activated. I have tried it both active and inactive and it has had no effect either way.
Since it happens on all my Mac's I know it can't be a single system issue. And until someone else posted here that they had the same problem I thought perhaps it could be an issue with my actual Mobile Me account. Aside from this one posting, I have yet to encounter a single other person whom experiences this. Everyone just looks at me cross-eyed including Apple support.
It's deffinately an issue with Mail app though - works fine on my iPod Touch, iPhone and via my mail widget (that I just starting using since I cannot leave mail open).

  • Mail app no longer works

I've done a force quit on the app and have rebooted the ipad. I've followed Apple's suggestions for checking the settings. Still neither of my mail accounts can send or receive.
Mail stopped working while we are relying on a hotel's wifi. Safari works fine and Mail on my wife's ipad works.
    I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Mail app no longer plays QuickTime sound files.

Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I was able to play sound files attached to mail within the app.
In other words, if someone sent me a sound file, it would appear as a QuickTime sound within the body of the email and I could play it.
That was a very nice feature.
Now sound files will not play within the mail window. Instead, I need an external player such as QuickTime Player or iTunes.
How can I get that feature back?

What specific sound file types will not play as Mail attachments in Mountain Lion?
I just sent an .m4r (ringtone), mp3, and .m4a (iTunes aac music) files as Mail attachments. The first appeared as an icon that played via QuickLook from within Mail. The second two appeared as black, QuickTime styled, embedded music play bar attachments. They played back flawlessly.
Have you installed any application recently that may have hi-jacked the default QuickTime audio playback? It would have done so silently, or popped up a dialog requesting to perform the hi-jack on a list of music file formats.
You may have to select each particular audio file format in Finder Get Info and restore QuickTime in the Open with section on that panel.
