Mail app not working suddenly. Won't accept my password.

Yesterday, when I brought my laptop back from sleep, I tried to check my e-mail with the Mail app like I always do. But there was the lightning bolt sign next to the inbox, and the pop-up asked me to input my password, which didn't work. It says mail.mac.com has rejected my password. The password is correct (I'm able to check my e-mail through my browser at me.com), but for some reason Mail keeps on rejecting it. I usually don't have to input my password at all in Mail. Any clue how to fix this? I haven't changed anything at all on my laptop. I use Yahoo DSL.
Thanks!

Greetings,
You need to complete your profile so we know exactly what you're running, and keep it -up-to-date at all times. There are different solutions for problems depending on which version of Mac OS X and the specific application that you're running. Using the wrong one could lead to disaster for you.
It's possible that your Keychain entry for the email account has been corrupted. To test for that and fix it: you need to:
Quit Mail.
Open Keychain Access and select the Passwords section.
Scroll through the list until your find the entry for the password for the email account and delete it; then quit Keychain Access.
Restart Mail, enter the password when prompted and check the box to save it in the Keychain. With any luck it will accept it and your problem will be solved.

  • Default Mail app not working with yahoo mail. Won't update.

Default Maill app not working with Yahoo Mail.
It stopped working the other day. I tried everything but it wouldn't update new mail. The yahoo account itself is fine because I can see new mail on Yahoo or a yahoo app.
I tried deleting the account and putting it back on, but now it has 0 mail in any part of it. Nothing has synced.
    What do I do?
    iPad 2 latest OS.

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!

  • Mail App Not Working with Self-Signed Certificates

First and foremost, I apologise for starting another thread that is 90% similar to others but I wanted to avoid falling into an existing context.  Like may others, I am having issues with the Mail App in Mavericks but I have an email account other than G-Mail.
That being said, here is the issue I am having.  Until recently I never had an issue sending and receiving email from various accounted.  My Internet provider, an Exchange account, even a G-Mail account.
Yesterday, my Web hosting provider issued a new (self-signed) certificate as the old one had expired (which was also a self-signed certificate).  While I am able to still receive messages, I am no longer able to send any.
I have tried numberous possible solutions to no avail.  I have removed and readded my email account, I have refreshed my SMTP settings, I have removed all semblence of the account from my Key Chain, added the Certificate manually with full trust, and I have even flushed the caches from my ~/Library/ folder.  The last one perked up the Mail App but did not restore my ability to send messages from my Web provider's SMTP server.
I suspect this is a bug in the Mail App but I'm hoping I can find a few last solutions before I file a bug report.
In the meantime, I am using another outgoing server from my Internet provider.  It will do but for consistency I'd much rather use the outgoing server that came with the email account in question.
I am all but convinced it is the Mail App as Thunderbird is able to use the SMTP server just fine and I am still able to send messages using the exact same settings on my iPhone and iPad.
In case it helps, I am using a Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the latest Mavericks update (which ironically was meant to solve some issues other users had with the Mail App).
On a related note, I wish I had stayed on Snow Leopard.  I did not have a single issue with that OS.  Now I feel like I am working on Windows Vista again and I am waiting for the Apple version of Windows 7 to set things right.

There is no Apple in this user to user technical forum, if you want an Apple employee you would need to take your phone to the Apple store.
What happens when you switch to using cellular data?  Does your email update?
FYI - Yahoo email account is notoriously bad, you can try their app.

  • Mail app not working on school wireless network?

I'm confused. When I'm at school and on their wireless network, the internet works fine (I'm posting this from class), but the Mail application will not receive mail. I can access my email account from the web without a problem, but it won't work in the app. Mail app works fine on my wireless network at home, though.
    Any ideas?

I have been experiencing similar problems with my connection working in some locations and not in others. It seems to have something to do with what software is being used at the location to block "inappropriate use". What I'm wondering is whether it's actually a timing issue with the firewall delaying the packets or if it is the actual port being blocked. At other times, the messages have indicated that the connection timed out.
As with some of the other people on this forum, my error message is
The server error encountered was: Mail was unable to connect to server “mail.mac.com” using SSL on port 993. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct.
From these locations, I am able to go to the http://www.mac.com site. However, sometimes, the messages take a very long time to load or never complete loading. I don't know if this could be a connected problem. The places where I have the most problems with mail via www.mac.com are also the locations where the mail application has problems.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • IPhone 4 mail App not working properly

My IPhone 4 mail app just continues to spin and check email without getting email or sending.
Had the same problem in October after iOS 6 update took in phone and got a new one under 1 yr warranty.( apple and Verizon techs could not figure)
Again the problem is back.  The spiny thing just continues to spin and no email update.
If I reboot the phone the email is pulled down but stops again.
    iPhone : 4
    iOS : 6.01
    Carrier : Verizon wireless
Can not find anything on apple support or anywhere on google
I installed gmail app and all email pulls down perfectly but can not get me AOL email setup
So I know the network is working
Anyone know about this email App problem?
    Thx
    Bahram

I'm getting this too. It's very slow and apparently thinks "Call Sue Newport" sounds like "Call Halfords" or "Call Halyards" and, most surprisingly "Call First Great Western".
I was wearing my Jawbone Bluetooth headset so it's nothing to do with background noise.
I tried the new "What time is it?" command which works but takes about 10-15 seconds to activate.

  • Mail.app not working

I'm running an iMac G5 with OS 10.6.8. Someone moved our Mail.app off of the doc and now it will not work.
I tried to reinstall it with the Snow Leopard disc and I also updated the combo package.
The Mail.app shows up in the applications folder but gives this message when trying to open it:
"You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OSX.  You have mail version 4.2(1078/1085). It can't be used on Mac OSX version 10.6.8(build 10K549). For more information click help button"
Once that is selected I get solutions that do not work. The mail app is in the applications folder ad I have tried reinstalling it to no avail.

The current Mail for Snow Leopard is 4.6. Try running Software Update to see if it will download.

  • Mail app not working since reinstall

    Hi,
My mail application has stopped working and reports that the version is not compatible with the installed version of OSX. If I compare this to another mac, the problematic mac is one version behind the operational mac. This is since I lost the application and was told to reinstall it by Apple from the install disk.
    Problem mac
    OSX: 10.5.8
    Mail: 3.5
    Working mac
    OSX: 10.5.8
    Mail: 3.6
Software Update reports that there are no updates available and I'm unable to find the latest mail app anywhere on the Apple site.
Apple support tried to get me to download the 10.6.2 download, but I don't believe that this is right for my current system. Especially as Software Update reports no update available.
Any ideas on where I can download the correct / latest version of the Mail application and how I can ensure that when it's installed, my previous mail settings are restored?
    Thanks in advance

  • Mail app not working - says connecting... no new mail

Ok so I recently had a problem with my iPhone's "phone" app and "contacts" app (both would open a white blank screen and then crash after approx 10 sec.) so I did a back-up and restore from iTunes. After that the problem was fixed. However, NOW my iPhone's "mail" app is not working. When I open the app it says "connecting..." and has the spinning wheel but that it never connects. That wheel just keeps spinning away. When I use the "safari" app to access my gmail account it works perfect. I have 4 accounts (including my iCloud account) set up on my iPhone and I can't figure out what's wrong. I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I've seen the same problem UNANSWERED multiple times in this forum.
I'VE ALREADY TRIED A HARD REBOOT* - When my phone turns back on there is new mail but when I click on it to view it it doesn't load the message. just another spinning wheel. AHH!
This problem is really, really bothering me. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

    Hello rayalamx
If the Mail app is not opening, then I would remove the email accounts. Open mail to see if that resolves the issue and then start adding the accounts back in.

  • Why is the search on my mail app not working?

I just bought the new iPod touch 5th generation. I synced it with my iTunes, transferring all the apps I had on my old 3rd generation iPod touch. Everything works fine, except the search on my mail app. When I type in some keyword to search, and click the "all" label, it won't actually search all my email content, only the subjects and senders. Any way to fix this?

No. From the Users Guide it only searchs mail for:
Mail—To, From, and Subject fields of all accounts (the text of messages isn’t searched)

  • IPod Touch Mail App not working

My family just had FiOS installed a couple days ago.  It's taken my brother and I a couple days to notice that the mail apps on our iPod Touches (which worked 100% with our old Verizon DSL) are no longer working (i.e. they are no longer pushing emails from our Yahoo and GMail accounts to the iPods).
I deleted my Yahoo account from my iPod and then tried to re-add it to see if that would fix things and the message I got from the iPod reads: "the imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field"  My brother's Touch gave him a different message regarding his Gmail account but he's not here at the moment for me to quote it directly.  Only via the wifi at work was I able to successfully re-add my Yahoo account to the iPod.  Now I'm back home again and when I try to refresh my inbox it's just "Checking for Mail..." indefinitely.
Note that it's only the mail app that is not functioning; all the other online functionality of the iPods (Safari, Youtube, weather app, iTunes) are working 100% with FiOS.  And as I mentioned above, the mail app worked today on the wifi at work.  It's only at home with the new FiOS that the mail app on my iPod stops working.
Any ideas?  Might there perhaps be something I can tinker with in the router settings?

Me again. I've discovered the mail app works when I set the firewall from maximum to typical. Is there any way to tell it to let it work on maximum?

  • Ipad Mail app not working

running iOS version 8.1.2 on work iPad not sure which model, but definitely not the last two years.
The mail application has a blank screen (white or the home screen without apps) trying to compose mail doesn't work. Often automatically shuts down app when open. Can't send mail or read mail. Most other applications are working fine. The ipad is mainly used to take photos, send and read emails and search the internet. Occasionally used for playing music but not often. Not sure if it's relevant but, using two google based email accounts (application doesn't allow for viewing both accounts or inboxes. Thanks for any and all help.

    Hello feeffee,
If you are not seeing any mail on your iPad, then take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. You may end up having to remove the email accounts and reset them up to get it working again.

one more thing. I was not able to download cleanup tool/online scanner too. but may be it has something to do with my internet bandwidth. and other strange thing i observed is that before restart i was not even able to turn off all security features. but after restart that problem seems to be corrected.
