Mail app osx 10.9 not responsive

Since I have update to OSX 10.9 (Maverick) the mail application start up, but after that it is unresponsive.
In the main window I can not select any item: mailbox, messages etc.

OK - chew me out, I know. But, I have apparently been living under a rock, as while I pride myself on keeping up with all things Apple, I had no clue that they were rolling out a new operating system, so while working on a project on Friday and in a moment of temporary insanity, and knowing that Apple gives away nothing - when the "update available" window popped up, I read it, determined it was some cool new additions to the Mountain Lion and said "install." If only I had  a time machine (not the Apple kind) I would go back and undo it all.
This is a busy time of the year for me work wise, and I don't have the time to be messing about with an unfamiliar operating system. Needless to say I backed up nothing. So cannot revert to the previous version, but there has to be a fix to this. Just darned if I know what or how?
PS - When I click on the icon on my dock, the menu bar at the top of my screen (in this case now Chrome) dims, but nothing happens. I can see the number of incoming email changing on the red dot on the mail icon, so then have to to either AOL or Gmail on the web to read them or reply. I want my Mail back!!

how do you log into hotmail at work? via webmail interface? hotmail provides POP email access only when using an email clienet and you probably have Mail set to remove messages from server after downloading them. go to Mail preferences->account->advanced and check those settings. you can change them to leave messages on server or to remove them from server only when they are moved from the inbox.

  • Open Mail.app with growl notification not the mail itself

Hello, with an incoming mail the OSX growl notification appears. But it links (when clicking on it) to the Mail in a new window. Can I change this so it will open the "complete" Mail.app not only the mail in single view?
    Regards DonTimo

    Try resetting your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

Without seeing anything of what you did there is not much to go on except to say that when you create a classic tween you use a library-based object and it has to exist at both ends of the tween.  When motion guides come into play you usually have to fiddle around when making the link between the object and the motion guide to get the object to lock to it.

  • Mail.app and IMAP does not change message in server

    Hello all...
I'm having a strange problem with Mail.app.. I have a IMAP server that uses pine-imapd. I can login and read messages, but anything I do with the messages to not change the message status on the server... If I read a new message, it remains NEW on server, if I delete, it DO NOT delete form server, and so on.. There are cases that I keep receiving the same message over and over again, but actually there's only one message on the server... I used to use Linux with Evolution and everything works just fine, but with Mail.app on Leopard, I have this issue.. Anyone experienced the same thing and have solved it?
    THanks
    Carlos Barros

    Hello Neithan.
Assuming Preferences > Mailbox Behaviors > Move deleted messages to the Trash is ON, does having Store deleted messages on the server ON or OFF make a difference?
Does the problem persist if you take the account offline, then back online (e.g. by means of Mailbox > Go Offline/Online)?
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting that information easier, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Mail app on imac is not working

mail app will not load the page completly and i get the pizza wheel of death andmail does not load.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • Mail in OSX Lion : pop not OK

    Hello,
I was in OSX Snow Leopard and it was OK on the Mail program. (2 accounts hotmail, 2 accounts gmail and 1 account from my provider. (scarlet))
I upgrade to Lion yesterday. My pop account does not run anymore... I created it again but impossible to get my mails from Scarlet...

Same problem here and only with Scarlet, others Pop mails are Ok.
When investigating by doing a telnet on port 110 on pop.scarlet.be and doing the CAPA command, I see that the authentication is : USER SASL PLAIN LOGIN, that seems to cause problem to Lion mail.
When you try the same command on a working Pop server by exemple pop.skynet.be, the CAPA command gives you only USER.
I think the problem come from mail, as the same sequence was well understood under Snow Leopard, and the mail server works find with Thunderbird.
Normally after the CAPA command, it should sends the USER and PASS commands to effectively connect to the mail server, but it's not the case, it just send the QUIT command to end the connection.
The connection is done through a kCFStreamsOcketSecurityLevelNone.
Maybe it might help in the investigations.

  • Mail.app Different FROM ALIAS not full account change. NOT ".mac" HOW?!!

    Hey there.
So I use forwarding aliases from various domains and have no interest in stopping this. Mail.app doesn't seem to have any way to switch the FROM address (not the replyto, but the actual from address) if you don't set up an entirely new account. I thought I could get around this by just setting up another account, however mail checks to see that the account logs in properly, and if it's the same account that you have another address set to it doesn't let you duplicate it cause it doesn't want to download the same mail twice every time or something. Of ourse I just wanted to tell it not to download the mail on the second account. Anyway, I need a way to have one account that's with my ISP [email protected] or whatever that I log into, but have like 5 others that it sends from [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] etc. but since all of these addresses forward to my main mail account I can't have a separate login for each of them.
I'm getting the impreassion that everyone who uses mail is just boxed in by the concepts handed to them, cause NO ONE seems to be talking about this issue. Unless I'm a complete idiot and am missing something obvious.
I found one other account of such a problem and the person also had a .mac account so everyone told him to just switch to always using the .mac account.
    That's a totally unacceptable answer!
Anyway, I recently switched from Eudora which CAN do this with no problems. THe only problem is, eudora isn't integrated with address book, and more importantly, doesn't handle Japanese well.
If anyone can be of help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

As if it wasn't doing this before.
Well, you're right that adding aliases to a mail account has no effect on the mail that's collected there, and that the statement you quoted is misleading. Problem is, that statement doesn't appear in the Mail Help's "Adding multiple email alias addresses to an account" article I was referring to, so I had no idea what were you talking about.
I've been able to find the article you've quoted in Apple's knowledge base:
Mac OS X: Using email aliases in Mail
I agree that the last part of this article is poorly written, but it's not in Mail Help, and it doesn't appear when typing alias in Mail Help's search box as I suggested.
    I'm assuming all is well.
Let us know if that's not the case.

  • Mail.app: 'Remove Address' does NOT Remove Address

    Hello,
    I am using OS X (10.9.5) running Mail.app (7.3 (1878.6)).
When I reply-all to an email with multiple recipients in the CC line, if I right-click and 'Remove Address', it removes the address from the CC: line, and appears that the message will not go to this recipient.
When I check my 'Sent' folder for this outbound message, I can see that all recipients that I removed by right-click > 'Remove Address' actually received the message that was not addressed to them.
I can readily duplicate this failure with test email addresses.
This is a critical defect.  Mail should not be delivered to unexpected recipients.  Mail should SPECIFICALLY not be delivered to recipients that have been explicitly removed from any of the address fields.  If the Remove Address feature does not work, perhaps remove it from the right-click options.
    Please fix this.
I am aware of a workaround to use the 'Delete' key to remove addresses.  I will use that in the future.
This violates the principle of least surprise in one of the worst possible ways.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Mail.app 2.1.3 not handling video attachments anymore

    Hello,
About 2 weeks ago, Mail.app (v. 2.1.3) started this behavior:
When "Sharing" video clips in QuickTime Pro 7.5 ( .mov or .wmv files) and selecting "Large" (or "Medium") - the file attached to the email is always "Small." Have tried Sharing the same clips several times - each time selecting (mostly Large) and always get "Small."
I thought of trying deletion of Mail plist but am unsure (thought it might cause a serious loss of such things as contacts list or of Inbox data base).
Wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on how to get Mail to "obey" my file size selections for "Shared" video files?

    BDAqua,
I'm back! Well, I spent considerable time earlier (now yesterday in my area) to ensure I would follow your suggested fixes w/o mishap. But as often happens - there were a few side tracks on the way.
The result is: +I have not tried+ any of your suggestions because (on nothing but a hunch) I tried again to "Share" from QuickTime a movie file as (in succession) Large - Medium - Small. This "series" produced exactly the sizes of (.mov) file I had selected. Both the outgoing email attachments and the "return" emails were of the "predicted size" and played back accordingly on the return email.
Interesting (and mysterious): Before I tried the above (three in all) Sharing attempts, I happened to check my Trash folder and saw the following items had been deposited there (with absolutely no effort or actions on my part!):
In a "Recovered Items" folder in Trash:
    1. a folder named: "com.apple.mail"- empty (zero items).
    2. a folder named: "com.apple.mail.drag" - contained 1 item, a .gif file.
    3. a folder named: "tempemail_folder11360585" - contained 1 item, a .jpg file (one of four I had attached to an email on August 8!)
This is strange, I had not even gotten around to backing up Mail.app files as we discussed.
They were not there (in Trash) earlier in the day - I am editing photos and video all the time and often check my Trash folder before closing each project - just to make sure I haven't trashed any essentential items.
Possibility: I had not mentioned because I had not thought of it until getting back to the trouble-shooting, I have a cloned boot drive on my Mac Pro. I decided to try this same QT Sharing with Mail.app _on the cloned drive_ to see if the same problem existed "there." It did not.
But - (again we have so many possible side-tracks with these computers!) - I had reason to run Software Update on the cloned drive (because it was still running 10.4.9 vs 10.4.11 on my boot drive). It was after this system upgrade on the clone drive that I checked the Trash on the boot drive and found the mysterious Mail.app Folders. (There were other items in Trash: most of them expected because I put them there!)
Anyway - the problem with getting the chosen size "shared" movie files on emails created in Mail.app is apparently gone, solved itself. I'm almost sorry I didn't get to trouble-shoot this so I'd know what the original cause was.
Thanks anyway for your help - it was appreciated.

  • Why is my mail app on my mac not loading properly?

I'll delete e-mail from my inbox, and it just marks them as read rather than deleting them. Also, it doesn't load when e-mails come on. I have to close it and open it to display my incoming e-mails. I never had any trouble until I updated to OS X Mavericks.

    Hey there johobanana2198,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behaviour with the Mail app after upgrading to Mavericks. I was researching where to start troubleshooting and found this article for you to help troubleshoot the symptoms you are seeing named:
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1199
The first and easiest test to try is to see if the issue affects a different user account on your Mac. Each user account has customized preferences and other items stored in its home directory. You'll first need to create an additional user if one does not already exist (follow steps a-h below). Then, log out of the current user and test the issue in the new user account. If this resolves the issue, there may be an issue with a file in the home directory of the original user account.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Accounts (or choose Users if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Click "+" (or click New User if using Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier).
Give the new user a name and short name.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click the Password tab, and give the user a password.
Mac OS X v10.3 or earlier only: Click Security.
Select the checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer". This makes the user account an administrator.
Click OK, or quit System Preferences.
Start up in Safe Mode (Mac OS X v10.2 or later only). If the issue does not occur, there may be an issue with a startup item, login item, or kext file. Refer to this article for troubleshooting suggestions.
If the issue does not appear to be related to preferences, a login item, or a kext file, and still persists in Safe Mode, there may be an issue with a cache file in your home folder:
From the Finder's Go menu, choose Home.
    Open the Library folder.
Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    Attempt to reproduce the issue.
If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
If issue persists, from the Finder's Go menu, choose Go To Folder.
    Go to this folder: /Library
Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
    Attempt to reproduce the issue.
If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
If issue persists, go to step 4.
If the issue persists, there may be an issue with a third-party font file in your home folder.  See this article for information about using Font Book to enable or disable fonts in Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
Disabling fonts in Mac OS X v10.2 or earlier
    Additional Information
    If the issue persists
Perform other troubleshooting steps listed in this article.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Can someone help me with this???
    Kind Regards,

I've seen two possible solutions to this:
    1. Easier, but less likely to work - try to start mail from the Finder, rather than the Dock. If it works, replace the Dock Mail with the Finder one.
    2. More probably the solution: download and reinstall the 10.6.1 combo update. I know you shouldn't need to after a TM restore but ...
