Mail.app says I have no messages, I do not.

The application is saying that I have 3 new messages. I went through all my e-mails, nothing new. I deleted EVERYTHING from my computer's mail cache, nothing. I removed my RSS feeds, nothing. I logged onto .Mac from Safari, and it's saying I have no new messages.
I tried quitting/restarting the app. I tried restarting the computer itself.
Anyone else?

Okay I figured it out. I downloaded CleanApp. I dragged Mail.app to it as if I were going to uninstall it, and unchecked the app itself. I then deleted all the other files, and restarted Mail.app.
Everything's back to defaults.

Right now I have 3 messages in my inbox, all read. Mail.app's title says "Inbox (4 messages)" even though I have 3. It's off by 1 every now and then and I have to quit and restart to have it fix it - although this doesn't always solve the problem I don't think
Is this a known issue? How can I file a bug report?

    Hi,
From the Mac Mail Menu Bar click Mailbox/Rebuild. This can take a minute or two. Should help.
Not a bug, just servers trying to catch up.

  • My Mail App says I have 40 unread emails when I have none, Ive already tried a few things, why is this happening?

It's annoying an I want to be able to know when I get a new email.I have to accounts on the Mail app. Please help!!!

one solution is to simply delete the email account from your ipad and set it up again right afterwards, This resets whatever file or setting is associated with it that has the miscount usually.

  • The mail icon says I have 2 messages. Where are they?

I'm using a MacBook 3.1 with leopard 10.5. Last week the mail icon on the toolbar indicated I had 1 mail. I couldn't find it. (I only have 1 mail folder)
Today, it indicates I have 2 that I can't find. I get messages, read them, and am still left with the icon indicating there are two.
I've tried shutting the system down, relaunching mail, but I'm still left with this situation. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

If this is an IMAP account, control-click on any mailbox and select "Get Account Info". That can refresh the listings from the IMAP server and sometimes get "invisible" emails to show. If that doesn't help or the account is POP rather than IMAP, select the mailbox and under the Mailbox menu select "Rebuild" and see if that gets the missing emails to display.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail says I have 4294967266 messages in Inbox.

I've just set up Mail for the first time, with a brand new Mac Pro running OS X 10.5.5, and I'm accessing an IMAP account. Mail reports the correct number of messages in every folder except the Inbox. Sometimes it says I have 1 message, or 4 messages, or 8 messages, but usually it says I have around 4 billion messages (the actual number varies, but it's always around 2 to the power of 32).
All these numbers are powers of 2, so I think this must be a mathematical error somewhere. Is this a known bug with the Mail app? Or is it possible the problem is on my IMAP server's end, even though this didn't happen when I used a different mail program?
Everything else seems to be functioning correctly, so it's not a dire situation. It's just reporting the incorrect number of messages.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    David

I did exactly what you described, and it seemed to rebuild okay. But it didn't solve the problem.
Does Apple Mail calculate the number of messages on its own, or does it receive that information from the server? Is it possible it's a problem on the server end?
Incidentally, I found someone else who posted a similar problem in the forum (same symptom, but he was using a POP account), but it doesn't look like he ever found a solution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1760862&tstart=32

The Mail version for your machine is 4.6 (1085)   You can get it via the Combo updater.  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

  • Mail app keeps re-caching all messages when it starts

    Hello
In past 10 days i have a very big problem which gives me headaches already. The problem is ( i did not change anything!) mail.app keeps re-caching all messages and attachments everytime i start the app. I have over 40.000+ mails so you do the math about how my bandwith eaten by the app. As i said i did not change anything. Anyway after searching dozens of forums and suggestions i did these steps:
    - removed MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 files. No fix alsa mail.app won't create new ones since then
    - removed whole cache, files, folders and accounts and re add them. No fix
    - Clean install of mavericks. No fix
    - Tried other apps like airmail, sparrow. Kinda no fix because airmail wont download whole messages only 1 month period even i choose to have all messages. Sparrow keeps giving error of unable to locate folders on the server. Only my windows thunderbird client works like a charm, there is no any issue at all but i hate windows.
    - some terminal commands before clean install which i really dont remember due to high number of commands. By the way i am using IMAP settings
I really need a help here. I am talking about huge number of mails which are very important for me.
    Thank you

Check your smtp preferences in mail.app.
See if mail.app's Connection Doctor has any useful info.  Does it's status indicate all is ok?  When you use it's Show Detail are there any (useful) error messages?

Inbox says I have 2 messages.  I can't see them.  What should I do?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Something Mail.app ought to have and doesn't

i'd like to tell apple about this, but they don't have mail listed as an app to give feedback for. if anyone knows of an email address or url please feel free to point me in that direction. until then...
one of the things that's always frustrated me is that mail cannot choose a send mail server based on your network location. i use 4 different mail servers (two at school, one at my apt, and one back at home) regularly and the "send mail from last selected mailbox" doesn't get the job done.
for example, what if i'm at school and need to answer an email i got at one of my non-school addresses? mail.app tries to send the message using a send mail server it can't connect to, then i get the error message and can tell it which server to use.
i understand that you can also choose which account to send the mail from when composing the message. but what if i want the message to be from one of my other accounts? maybe i'd like to keep my school email address under wraps, or maybe i'm at home and would like to respond to a professor or someone with my school account.
mail should be able to figure out which send mail server to use based on your ip address and network location. it can be an option, or it can be automatic, but it should at least be. waiting for it to give me an error is just lame.
    what do you guys think?

I am using my Droid RAZR M phone, and the messaging app that comes installed on it. Under app info it says version 4.4.2-15. I haven't downloaded any other messaging apps.
I have also deleted ALL of my text messages from anyone & rechecked my voicemail. I still have "1 unread msg" and it is driving me crazy! LOL
    Thanks for your time!
