Mail App sending mail super slow.. ??

I am trying to send mail using my @me account and it sending super slow even for small text. as a test i just wrote test and sent and it was a couple minutes to send. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have restarted mail several times and restarted my macbook..
went to gmail to test and sent to my mac address and was instant. but all outgoings from mail app are like syrup
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Having a bit of a meltdown at the moment and would love my mac not to fail me at the worst time as well.....aarrggghh

An issue with DNS can arise when sending via the SMTP, and it will likely be different for different ISPs. To confirm this is the problem, please prepare two new messages for sending, before sending either of them. Then click to send the first one, and as soon as you hear the swoosh that it has gone out, click to send the second one. If the second goes out almost instantaneously, then it is correctable with a change in DNS.
Two citations, different approaches, but really both addressing DNS:

and

This happened for many people with the beginning of Mail 3 in Leopard, but some may only experience in Snow Leopard and Mail 4.x.
Two recent experiences people had can be found at:

I am not sure how to advise you in New Zealand, but your ISP should be able to provide you with explicit DNS addresses to enter. This not impact webmail sending, btw.
Keep us posted.

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

  • Download attachment in Mail application is super slow

Whenever I download attachment from an email in Mail application, it super slow. It's 10 times slower than when I download the same attachment from Safari. So it means not because of the internet speed.
I don't know you guys have the same problem like me.
And another quesion, can we configure Mail app to automatically download attachment. Now everytime I receive an email, I have to open email and click on attachment to download it. It waste time to sit there and wait.

I have the exact same problem.  10 times slower download of attachements than if I simply login to webmail and download that way.
    Anyone know a solution?

    Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've deleted my iCloud account and re-added it and it didn't help.

  • Mountain Lion Mail.app Sends Email Several Times While Drafting Reply

Using Mail.app in Mountain Lion and the default configuration of Gmail via IMAP (as configured by Mail.app) when I reply to an existing message, Mail.app sends the partially completed email message several times while I am drafting the message, without me hitting the send button. This does not occur when composing new messages. I have not yet determined what is causing the message to send. My working theory is that it is sending the message each time a draft is saved to the server. Any insight on what is happening (or confirmation that other people are experiencing the same behavior) would be appreciated.

I have 4 accounts running, 2 POP and 2 IMAP, after doing some checking today with a mac engineer online, it appears that it is incoming mail only affected and only on the POP accounts. I had previously tried recreating the accounts but as from today even just quitting Mail and reopening no longer works... the engineer has had to exculate my call to a specialist who in turn has now had to send it off to a specialist team to work on. When I get results, I will post them in case it helps someone else.

When you select the share to mail option in iPhoto, you are given the option to resize the photo.

    10.6.2 / 4.0.3...
Whether you are running Mac OS X 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 your system software is completely outdated.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Your Mac OS X needs to be at v10.6.8 / Safari should be 5.1.7
And make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk to install software updates.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Super Slow Mail 2.1.1

My connection to the web is cable modem and I can pull up web pages fast but opening a new message in Mail is super slow (30 seconds plus) even if it is just a plain text email.
First I thought it was the size of my in box but as I clean it out, nothing changes.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Gregory,
I don't have any other solution at this moment ... to speed up your Mail ...
Check you in an out mail box an trash anything that is huge in Mb's for receiving an out going mail ...
I do it all the time ... it has no use to keep older messages that you read ore response to, I'm sure that you have multiple copy's of the same messages.
Post back with the results ...

  • Mail Running SLOW!

Lately, Mail is slow slow slow. When I click on 'get mail', the wheel spins and spins. Eventually one of these things happens:
    -I get a message saying I'm 'offline'
-I get a message saying something can't connect to some sort of smtp server
-it spins forever and Ihave to restart the application
Also, when I try to send mail, often the mail find itself in the Outbox, where it sits and sits and sits, until it finally sends after several minutes.
I have a cable modem connected directly to the computer.
I never had these problems with Outlook.
    Any advice?

Do you have other mail accounts in addition to Gmail? Does the same problem happen with the other accounts as well?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
In Mail, open Window > Activity Viewer. What do you see Mail doing there while it spins forever?
Do you have any Mail plug-ins or system utilities that could interfere with Mail? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/StartupItems/
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/
    /Library/LaunchAgents/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/StartupItems /Library/LaunchDaemons /Library/LaunchAgents /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/LaunchAgents ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Why is Apple Mail so slow?

I use Apple mail to access my gmail account. Every time I open up this program, there's a circle (similar to the circle you have on the gray screen at start up) next to the inbox icon to indicate that it's loading my mail. It's there for like 10 minutes. Then, when I actually want to check my mail, I click on a new mail and I get the colored circle which indicates that it's thinking. After a while I get fed up and just log on to gmail directly. Is something wrong with my computer or is Apple mail just slow for everybody?

Did you upgrade to Tiger on this Mac from a previous OS X version, and if so, where you using the Mail.app with the previous OS X version?
If so, the mbox file structure was changed with Tiger Mail, and when upgrading to Tiger from a previous OS X version, there are some left over mbox files for each mailbox from the previous Mail.app version which are no longer used, but are not deleted after the conversion to the new mbox filing structure for each mailbox is completed.
If you didn't upgrade to Tiger from a previous OS X version on this Mac, have you tried using the Rebuild Mailbox function on the problem mailboxes? If not, be sure to create a backup of your Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail with the Mail.app quit before doing so before using the Rebuild Mailbox function.

  • Mail + IMAP = slow ?!

    HI,
Until a couple of days ago I've only used Mail with 6 POP accounts and all was great. Then I decided it might be a good idea to connect to my university's mail server via IMAP (they don't offer POP, I used webmail before). This is when all my problems started:
-- Mail became unresponsive during startup, which would take 10 minutes or so
-- Mail used A LOT of memory (700MB RAM +1.4GB virtual)
-- Mail became unresponsive intermittently for no obvious reason
-- Mail crashed every once in a while
I've disabled that IMAP account for now, but I really wnt to use it. Has anybody ever had a similar problem? And better, knows of a solution?
I have no idea what to look for.

when i added my work imap account to my mac for the first time, the mac become super slow, sometimes unresponsive, mail crashed a few times. this probably went on for a good week, every day the issue becoming less and less acute... until all the emails/mailboxes were indeed synced between mail and the server, now it works like a charm. my issue was the sheer amount of email in my imap account server side, and the time it took for mail to cope with and receive everything. i cannot promise this to be the case for you, but that might very well be the case.
    hope this helps

  • Mail Getting Slower and Slower

    Hello all -
I am running Mail 1.3.11 on my 733MHz G4 with OSX 10.3.9. My internet connection is Verizon's 768/128 DSL.
Mail is getting slower and slower, especially sending. (I have timed some outgoing messages at 2 Mb/sec - nowhere near the theoretical 128 Mb.)
I am not allowing my In Box to accumulate many emails. But my Sent Box is quite large and growing larger, since I've been reluctant to discard many of them.
Is Mail's slowness be due to my growing Sent Box? Is there anything else I should look at or do? (My internet browser - Firefox - does not appear to have the same problem.)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions -
    - OF

    hello,
With Mail closed, you could always test whether your sent mailbox is too large by copying it in Finder.
    ~/Library/Mail/YourEmailaccountName/Sent Messages.mbox
and pasting it to say, the Documents folder, then in Mail you could delete all of your sent messages and see if that makes a difference.
If you wanted the sent.mbox back you would import it from where you copied it to, via Mail > File, Import Mailboxes and select it. I don't know if this is the problem though, but you could at least exclude it as a possiblity.
