Mail.app settings

hello,
simple question.... i just configured a personal account on my mail app, how can i export the settings to run them on a different computer?

If the different computer is another Mac and you have Mobile Me you could simply sync the settings of Mail.
If this is not the case, the best way is to open both computers and follow the Mail preference of the working Mail.app on one and just copy the same info on the other.
May be there is a simpler way but... it is not so much data and not so difficult.

  • How to sync mail app settings across multiple devices?

    Hi all,
I've been using an iPad Air for a while now, and I have multiple email accounts with various settings associated to them (Signatures etc.) on it. I just bought a new iphone 6, and I want all my mail settings and accounts exactly in my iphone as well. Is there any way to do that or will I have to manually configure email accounts?
    Regards,
    Hanit Banga

    Good day Hanit,
One way to do what you want would be to back up your iPad and restore that backup to your new iPhone. All of the mail accounts that exist in the iPad would become part of the iPhone. See this article -
Get help restoring from an iCloud backup - Apple Support
In particular the section titled Can I restore my iPhone or iPod touch using a backup made from my iPad?
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Gmail emails sending out of wrong account without my knowledge in Mail app

I'm having problems with my Mail app sending out emails out of the wrong Gmail account. This was happening to me in Mountain Lion amongst other Mail app headaches, and I was able to fix it after weeks and weeks of troubleshooting. In Mavericks, the Mail app was mostly working correctly.
When I updated to Yosemite (did a clean install), I thought my Mail app was working correctly. At the end of November, I had some iCloud issues asking for passwords for all my apps. I had to remove iCloud in System Preferences and I added it back on. Anyway, here is my issue:
    1. I have three gmail accounts, let's called them: primary@gmail, subscription@gmail and business@gmail. Over a year ago, I removed the business@gmail from the Mail app because the job was done. The primary@gmail and subscription@gmail were the only active gmail accounts I had in my Mail app.
    2. The beginning of December, I sent some emails out of [email protected] and the emails were in my Sent folder in the Mail app so I knew they were sent out. I didn't receive any responses to my emails and began to wonder. It wasn't until a friend emailed me on my personal@gmail and asked if I was using my business@gmail account again because he said I haven't responded to any of his emails he sent there.
    3. I went into business@gmail in webmail and there were all the emails responses. I forwarded them to my primary@gmail account and in the Mail app I looked at View>Message>Raw Source and I saw that the emails first tried to use my SMTP from primary@gmail but ended up using my business@gmail account which was no longer active in the Mail app. So when the people hit "Reply" to my emails they were sent to business@gmail in webmail.
What bothers me a lot is that I was not notified by the Mail app that the business@gmail SMTP would be used and I deleted the business@gmail from the Mail app over year ago so I didn't even think of it.
I went through my Mail Preferences Account Information and looked at Edit SMTP List. I had all these Gmail SMTPs there so I deleted all of them to start fresh. I left the iCloud SMTP info as it was.
When I tried to add a new Gmail account in System Preferences under Internet Accounts, it would only allow me to add one Gmail account and not another Gmail account. After a few tries, I was finally able to add the second Gmail account. I did go and look at Accounts in the Mail Preferences and I properly assigned the two Gmail accounts to only use the Gmail SMPT that is assigned to it.
    Here are my questions.
Do I need to do anything else to make sure that the Gmail accounts in Mail app settings remain as they are and this doesn't happen again. I've made sure that business@gmail is not in my Previous Recipients or in my Contacts.
I've noticed that the SMTP for iCloud is listed as "None" some of the time and I have to keep selecting iCloud over and over again. I'm hesitate to remove iCloud from my Mail app because I had to do this at the end of November when I had the iCloud password thing happen and I had a big problem getting my Notes data back.
If I remove the Mail.plist in Users Library, would I have to go through all the settings in Gmail webmail and Mail App or would some of the settings be there?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You set it up, and you failed to distinguish between the SMTP servers or assign the correct one to your copy of Mail (it doesn't actually know which is which, you need to inform it)
Open Mail>Preferences>Accounts (NOT Mail>Accounts) and go down to the SMTP server list, choose the correct server for each account then check the box that says 'Use Only This Server' for each account.
This is not automatic, you get to choose and if you don't then this will result.
    Remove the non functional ones.

  • Mail.app sorting preference doesn't persist

I've been using Mail.app for years. I'm currently using the most recent version 4.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.7. At some point recently (perhaps with the 10.6.7 update), my sorting preference no longer persists between selecting Smart Folders.
For example, I like having a Smart Folder for email sent to me by my boss. I like the sorting preference to be arranged by date. But periodically, when I return to this Smart Folder, it's sorted by Subject instead. I change the setting back, but at some point in the future, either after Mail.app has been restarted, or perhaps some time later, it reverts back. I do not synchronize any Mail.app settings via MobileMe.
It's maddening. Anyone with a suggested solution?

Well, is there a way to redirect unwanted mail back to the sender ? Or, a way to have unwanted mail go directly to rash?

  • How to transfer mail.app to new MBP?

Is there a way I can transfer my Mail.app settings and messages to my new MBP without having to migrate all of my data to the new machine?
    Looking fwd to your responses.

If you are having issues with:
"problematic display on macbook pro: http://urlb.org/lhlo Mac OS X (10.5.2) http://digg.com/apple/Appleignoring_display_problems_on_latest_MacBook_Pro2008"
then post these as well instead of clogging up the My Settings with issues rather than pertinent info about your MPB.

  • 10.9 mail.app archive v. all mail and trash

It appears that there are other subtle changes in how the Mavericks Mail.app handles things.  in 10.8, we used to have "All Mail", and it was exactly that - all the mail ever received, no matter what the disposition of the mail was.  You could always could scan thru the all mail folder and find messages.  Now, we have "Archive", which seems to map to all mail, but when I delete a mesage from my InBox, it is now removed from All Mail (Archive) and placed into the Trash bin, which gets emptied periodically.
Does anyone know a way to get the old behavior back?  I want everything left in All Mail as it used to be.  If I "delete" something, it just removes it from my InBox (or wherever it was).  I don't see a way to tell mail.app not to use trash.
    Help!

    Thanks guys!
what i mean is: I want to set up an account once to use it on both devices, the mac and the iphone. a new account should automaticly appear on the iphone after i set it up in mail.app.
earlier i could set up an account in mail.app and check a checkbox in itunes/overview to automatically sync the account settings to the iphone (and vice versa). the account was then automaticaly installed and set up on the iphone according to the mail.app settings. when i changed the settings in mail.app they also changend on the iphone. the account had to be installed once and could be used on both devices.
to me it looks like i have to set it up twice now, since the checkbox to sync accounts in itunes/overview disapeared (with mavereicks?)
hope, i was clearer now :-)
    best, philipp

  • Ipod touch lost--mail app accessed

bummed. so whoever found my ipod touch has accessed my email account and has deleted some of my emails. i changed my password, so will that prevent them from continuing to log-on automatically? using yahoo mail and changed my password from my main computer, so the password would have to be reset in the mail app settings also to access, correct?

Well, if to haven't found your itouch yet, there might be hope! If the person that got the mail app sent a message on your mail, you MAY be able to track the ip address of where it was sent from! If not, you could try to change your password back then try to send an email to your account from another account and see if you can somehow get the person to respond which you could then track back using the ip address. You didn't say you did, but if you have a gmail account on the iPod, there is a simpler way to do it!

  • Mail Server Settings for Email Clients

There must be something wrong with my iCloud account but I can't figure out what it could be:
I can't add my iCloud account to third party clients (Postbox, Airmail & MailPilot) I get error messages.
I succesfully added my cousin's iCloud account in those apps, on my own iMac in all 3 apps, no problem at all, yet It doesn't work with my account even though I'm using the exact same settings in both cases!
    I'm using the following settings
    IMAP Server: imap.mail.me.com
    IMAP Port: 993
IMAP Connection Type: TLS / SSL
    IMAP Authentication: Auto Detect
    SMTP Server: smtp.mail.me.com
    SMTP Port: 587
    SMTP Connection Type: Start TLS
    SMTP Authentication: Auto Detect
    I did peruse this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4864 and tried many changes, no can do! I also tried to replace ' imap.mail.me.com ' and ' smtp.mail.me.com ' with ' p07-imap.mail.me.com ' and ' p07-smtp.mail.me.com ' (I found ' p07 ' in Mail.app settings). I also tried p04, p99... Nothing seems to work.
But then again those 3 mail clients work instantly with anyone else's iClound account, on my very iMac! (which sports OS X 10.9.2)
Other than that, no problem using my iCloud account on MAS, iTunes Store, iTunes, iOS. iCloud.com...

    They're Apples instructions, not mine.
What (if any) error messages do you get, and have you checked what is happening with Connection Doctor?

  • Instructions for disabling Mail.app

The problem: Notification Center seems to send a command to Mail.app to open when I receive a calendar alert.
Simple Concept: I don't want Notification Center to open Mail.app!! I want Notification Center to give me notifications!! (What a novel concept!)
I have been unable to get Mountain Lion to not open Mail.app when I receive a calendar notification.
So ultimately I want the Notification Center in Mountain Lion not to tell Mail.app to open for a given calendar event, when I've already gotten the emailed notification in Sparrow! Alas, this simple request seems to be impossible, according to the infrastructure built into OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
    Technical details:
These are notifications from Google Calendar, which I use very regularly. Turning off the emailed alerts from Google Calendar is not a solution!!! More on this below.*
I use Sparrow as my mail client. IMHO, Gmail (Sparrow) >>>> Mail.app. [For those of you non-geek readers, that ">>>>" means "is much much much better than".] Sparrow is selected as the default mail client in Mail.app settings.
I am terminal-savvy; I don't mind disabling things at the system level and am capable with Unix commands. I haven't even been able to find a terminal command to disable Mail.app - because I don't want to use it at all, and would prefer to just disable it on my account.
If I tell ML to ignore alerts, then I won't get the alerts in notification center when I am in front of my mac.** (Duh)
    More info below:
*I want Google Calendar to send me email alerts, because I don't sit at my mac all day long. I have to work on a Micro$oft piece of trash all day long. So I want to get an email reminder at that POS while logged into my gmail that I have a calendar appointment. So disabling the email reminders in Google Calendar is NOT a solution. (!!!!!!!!!!!)
**I want Notification Center to tell me that I have a calendar event. I don't stay logged into gmail on the browser at home on my personal computer, I have my mail client and calendar clients to do the work that would normally take up two browser windows, and what's the point of notifications if they aren't being used??!?

The Health dashboard suddenly becoming blank is due to a bug in 8.0.2 Health App.
Many people have found success in getting the data display back by turning the phone off / on again, however the problem will return eventually.
I have had this issue occur several times already. I have found that when this problem occurs, it can be ignored as MyFitnessPal is still collecting data.
The next day when I open Health, in my experience, the dashboard is empty but all of the data (charts, etc) is there. I just have to re-select my dashboard items.
I'm hoping 8.1 will resolve a lot of these nagging bugs in iOS 8.

  • My Mail.app has been reset to default. All mailboxes gone!

I guess some file containing Mail.app settings got corrupted. Now when I open Mail all of my mail accounts/mailboxes are gone!!
Of course I haven't got a backup of my Mail preferences file... sigh
The Mail folder ~/Library/Mail/ still contains all of my mailbox folders.
Please tell me there's some way to get these imported along with the respective server settings. All I can find is "Import Mailbox" but that's not what I want, in that case the imported mailboxes will appear under a folder namned "IMPORTED" - don't want that. I want them back under the main "Inbox".
    Heeeelp!
    Dual PowerMac G5 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   5GB RAM, Dual Maxtor 250GB 16MB Cache

    Hello Daniel.
    Do the following.
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file.
Note: Deleting or moving the com.apple.mail.plist out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder from the Desktop.
And now is the time to backup the new com.apple.mail.plist file with the Mail.app quit when doing so. If this happens again (which it shouldn't happen often - I've never experienced the same with Jaguar, Panther or Tiger), you can replace the existing com.apple.mail.plist file with a good working copy from your backup with the Mail.app quit before doing so. This won't require re-entering all email account information.
What is your hard drive capacity and available free space or if the hard drive is partitioned, your boot volume capacity and available free space where your Home folder/directory is located?

  • Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac. Tried every settings, My iCloud only works with Mail.app

Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac or any other Mac. My iCloud will only work with Mail.app. All the clients I tried work perfectly well as long as I sign in with somebody else's iCloud account. But mine won't work no matter the client (Postbox, Unibox, Airmail...) and no matter the computer.
I can access my account on iCloud.com, but I can't use email clients without getting error messages prompting me to check my password or login.
I was able to use those clients in the past but a couple of months ago I got logged out of Airmail and the issue started just like that!
I tried every possible mail server settings including the following:
IMAP information for the incoming mail server
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 993
Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])
    Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker)
    Password: Your iCloud password

Those are the correct settings, and they work with any email client that supports Imap.
    Try again.

No, they will all follow the default setting. If you want them all to fetch, for example every 15 minutes, then set it to 15 minutes in Fetch. I only mentioned the other if you wanted to leave one for manual. I have an account on my phone that is a POP account that I get mail at home from. I let my home computer get this mail, but when I am out of town, I pick it up with the iPhone. That one is set to manual.

  • Mail.App eMail Settings for OS X Mavericks

Having recently experinced several issues with the Mail App using outllook.com eMail accounts, I became frustrated after attempting the many different types of server settings suggestions foating around online, none of which seemed to fix the problem, in fact one particular server setting suggestion for the "Incoming server" (s.outlook.com) caused the Mail App to crashj on several ocassions.
Prior to installing this update, it is rocommened to back up your date.
    1) Open the Mail App then select Mail--Preferences--then once the box opens, select the Blue @ icon for account information.
    2) Select the last oprion
    "Add other mail account"
    3) Select the IMAP option and input your details, Name, email address and password.
    4) INCOMING MAIL SERVER is
    imap-mail.outlook.com
    5) The 2 boxes, (Enable this account & Use only this server should both be ticked.
    7) OUTGIONG SERVER
    smtp.live.com
    Port : 993
    Use SSL : Ticked
    Authentication : password
Use IDLE command if the server supports it : Ticked
All other boxes should be ticked.
I have several outllook email account, both outllook.com & outlook.com.au, and they all work pefectly now.

I have exactly the same settings done automatically but sometimes I just don't recieve the email. While my iPhone have recieved it a few hours earlier, my Mac with Mavericks haven't. I, sometimes, have to put the account offline and then back online in order to get new mail. Doesn't happen always but still does and it's quite boring.
