Mail.app sycs with one Gmail account, won't with another

I've searched throughout the forum and couldn't find anything (although a ton of issues with Mail/Gmail exist).
Today is the first time I've had an issue with Gmail connecting to Mail.app, however, I have two Gmail accounts, yet my main one will not connect. Here's the error message:
"+Logging in to the Gmail IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages+."
I check my login/password, and it's correct. I can login to Gmail using Firfox and Chrome. My secondary account can receive and send in Mail.app, but nothing in the primary.
Anyone have an idea?

I just downloaded Thunderbird and tried to setup my primary Gmail account, and TB has issues logging in, saying the password is invalid, yet it's the same password that I use when I login in a browser, whatever the browser may be. Here's the setup window with the error, and anything else that may be relevant (I have absolutely no knowledge of mail anything; POP, IMAP, all that jazz is pure Latin to me):

Sorry for the link, but I'm not familiar with the forum code here to embed an image (if it's at all possible).
My Mail app on my iPhone works just fine, sending and receiving, but any desktop client I use kicks back a login issue, so it looks to be on Google's end, but I can't be certain.

  • Mail app not connecting to gmail account

    Hi
So I have 2 gmail accounts where our company domain uses gmail for its email service. Mail was working fine on both the accounts till last week.
I had configured both the gmail accounts very easily by just selecting Google on the Mail App on my Macbook Air 7 months back. I just added my email id and my password and the Mail App automatically configured both my accounts.
Last week one of the gmail accounts stopped updating on the Mail app on the Macbook. I was recieving mails on my iPad and iPhone so I knew there was something wrong. The second gmail account was working just fine. I tried various things but that account refused to work. So I deleted that account and tried adding that account back. I could not add that gmail account this time round and kept giving me an invalid username password error or some account not valid error. I go to the online version of Gmail and login with exactly the same information.
Then to probe more I delete the working gmail account and try to add it again. That account also does not seem to be adding now. Same error as the first account. So now I cannot access both my gmail accounts on the mail client.
I just realized that I updated to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on 28th Feb and am pretty sure that all this has happened immediately after that.
Anybody else with similar issues? Any ideas on what I should be doing?
    Cheers

  • IOS Mail App receives duplicates from gmail account

Everytime I receive an email using my gmail account, it comes in duplicate. Same time stamp. Both copies are in my inbox. It should have 1 copy in my inbox and 1 copy (the same copy) in my Google in box in my mail app. This happens on the macbook, on the iphone and on the ipad. So that if I delete the copy in my inbox you would expect the on in the Google inbox to delete as well, it does, but then there is still one more in my Inbox. Today I made a reservation with Supershuttle and used my gmail email addresss. I got to copies of the confirmation on each device. How do I eliminate the duplicate emails. I went through the google community and they say it is an Apple issue, not a google issue. So who to believe!

Remove the gmail account from one of the devices, and add it back. Does that issue go away on that device?

  • Mac mail not happy on one pop account

I have two email accounts and one won't check with mac mail, but works okay in entourage.
The problem is that one works all the time, the other is intemitent (even in entourage). The one that works only so so is checked via netmail frequently and the family member who uses it noticed that neither entourage nor mac mail was getting emails that were sent and checked online. Now, entourage has started working again as expected (for the last few days) and mac mail won't get anything.
I have deleted and resetup the account a few times, so I know it isn't a password issue, esp since I don't get a password error. The ISP is verizon.
Any ideas? Is it possible they the ISP is marking them as "no, don't let the old 10.3 mac mail have these." I've noticed that their webmail doesn't work with the Safari in 10.3.9, nice one guys.

    Hello Paul.
Are both email accounts that you access with the Mail.app and with Entourage provided by Verizon or is only the one that is intermittent provided by Verizon?
The one that works only so so is checked via netmail frequently
and the family member who uses it noticed that neither entourage
nor mac mail was getting emails that were sent and checked online.
No email client will get messages that were sent online with an account that is accessed as a POP type account with an email client unless you include the account's email address in the Cc: or Bcc: fields when addressing the message online so the sent message is also received by the account when checked for new messages by the email client.
What is the setting for the account in Entourage for removing messages from the server when downloaded?
Is it possible they the ISP is marking them as "no, don't let the
old 10.3 mac mail have these."
    This is not possible.
I've noticed that their webmail doesn't work with the Safari
    in 10.3.9, nice one guys.
    How does it not work?
Have you tried emptying the Safari cache?
If not, at the Safari menu bar, go to Safari and select Empty Cache and wait several minutes. Quit and relaunch Safari and try to access the account again via webmail.

  • Email sent from one gmail account returns to a different gmail account

We have and iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6 as well as an iPad 2 and a MacBook Pro . The operating system is current on all of them. Something has changed such that when we send gmail messages from one gmail account replies are received in a different gmail account. This happens on all devices. What kind of setting do we need to change to correct this problem?

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts /Account Information. Select an account, then go to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). From the drop down menu select Edit SMPT server list. Then set up a server for each mail account so that is associated with the e-mail address. Then go to each account and set that server as the Outgoing Mail Server (SMPT). You can click Use only this server if desired.

All apps are tied forever to the Apple ID used to obtain them, that is also true with In-App purchases.

  • Mail in Yosemite won't let me add one Gmail account but does another

After upgrading to Yosemite, m girlfriend is trying to add her Gmail to the Mail app but when she fills in the credentials, it just resets back to the same credential screen. Her Hotmail worked and so did an attempt to add my Gmail account. Does this have something to do with her account? Or could it be that she has her Gmail set up on a different Mac machine? Please help!

On the left, you should have a list of keychains and categories. If not, Select Show Keychains from the View menu.
Select the login keychain and All Items in the Category.
In the search field, type something that will help find your  account keychains, like "gmail."
Select the keychain for your email account password and delete it.

  • University managed Gmail account won't add to Mail 7.3

    Hello,
I am having a problem adding one of my university managed Gmail accounts to Mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro. I have two that I use regularly, @oakland.edu and @albion.edu, and I was able to sync @oakland.edu with no issues. However, Mail will not recognize the @albion.edu gmail account and gives this message:
I have tried to override and trust the certificate and that didn't work. I also tried adding the incoming/outgoing IMAP servers manually and that didn't work. IMAP is enabled in the @albion.edu acount. It added to Mail on my iPhone 4S with no problems, so I don't know what else to do.
Please help, this is extremely frustrating!!
    Thanks,
    Paden

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are several possible causes for it.
Back up all data, then take each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time
Select the Time Zone tab in the preference pane that opens and check that the time zone matches your location. Then select the Date & Time tab. Check that the data and time shown (including the year) are correct, and correct them if not.
    Check the box marked
    Set date and time automatically
if it's not already checked, and select one of the Apple time servers from the menu next to it.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemCACertificates.keychain
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open. The dialog should show "You can only read" in the Sharing & Permissions section.
    Repeat with this line:
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
If instead of the Info dialog, you get a message that either file can't be found, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it by pressing command-V. Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 3
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
    File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
    /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu at the top, select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings. Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings.Never again change any of those settings.
    Step 4
Select My Certificates from the Category list. From the list of certificates shown, delete any that are marked with a red X as expired or invalid.
Export all remaining certificates, delete them from the keychain, and reimport. For instructions, select
    Help ▹ Keychain Access Help
from the menu bar and search for the term "export" in the help window. Export each certificate as an individual file; don't combine them into one big file.
    Step 5
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
    Step 6
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    /var/db/crls
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "crls" should open. Move all the files in that folder to the Trash. You’ll be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Step 7
Restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.

  • Mail app automatically entering one of my configured accounts

My iPhone 3GS started acting oddly last week. When I press the Mail icon the Mail application enters one of my email account's inbox without me selecting which account.
I have three email accounts: two Exchange and one GMail configured. When I press the Mail icon, the application goes directly into one of the account's inbox. It is that account's Inbox and not the All Inboxes as the upper left has the account name 'back' button to return to the accounts folder list.
I removed all email accounts and re-added them. Same thing started happening. I restored the phone back to factory settings and re-added all accounts. This helped for a while but it started doing it again.
If I back out to the main Mail screen with the account listing and leave it there in about 15 seconds it enters an inbox on its own. Very odd. It seems to be the Gmail account that it enters but when I remove that account - it just does it to another account.
    Any thoughts.

You are correct that the mail app will open in the same way it was last closed, but this is not the issue. When I open the mail app, it generally is at the mail home screen listing the accounts, since this is where I almost always leave it. After a few seconds it will open the inbox of the first account in the list. If I back out to the mail home screen again, it waits 3-15 seconds(actually pretty random)then returns to the inbox. If all mail accounts are deleted, then re-added, the phone will function perfectly for 1-2 weeks. Then it will start all over again. This is VERY frustrating. We cannot be the only 2 cases where this is happening, especially given that our phones are completely different and running slightly different versions of iOS. I recently hard-reset the entire phone and will wait to see how long it takes to happen again. I will avoid installing additional apps with the exception of Facebook. I will have a company exchange account, my Gmail account configured as exchange, and my Yahoo! account. I know I should probably not even have Facebook installed to avoid the possibility that that is the culprit, but I don't want my phone to be entirely useless. I don't really feel that I should have to be the guinea pig here, but this issue is particularly annoying to me. And Apple phone care has not even heard of the issue. So again, PLEASE post here and call Apple if you are experiencing this issue.

  • Plain Text URL links not working in the Windows 8 Mail App for only one account.

    Hello,
I just started using a Surface Pro, and randomly one of the accounts I have setup in the "Modern" Mail app stopped parsing the pain text URL path that was included in them.  Specifically links to forum discussions.  I have 4 other Win
8 devices and they display the links fine.
More confusing is this issue happens ONLY with my O365 mail account and only on one PC.   I have an Outlook.com account and it renders the pain text URL as a clickable link, but when I send the same email to my O365 account it just shows up as
text, no link generated.  All in the same Windows 8 Mail App.
I ran the Windows 8 App Troubleshooter, I've reinstalled the Mail app,  I've removed and re-added the mail account.  Nothing fixes this.  Anyone know why?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Same problem for us, the link is also not rendered, if the mail is sent to an on-premise Exchange server.
Its only for plain-text messags, HTML-messages work fine.
Why is this problem ignored? The app is useless with that limitation.

  • Mail.app 4 with GMail

I recently upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard and I understand Mail.app 4 comes with Push support natively.
For as stupid as it might sound, I've spent the last 30mins googling how to set it up with Gmail but couldn't find any walkthrough.
For example, should I select "Exchange IMAP" or "Exchange 2007" to get push gmail?

why did Apple publicise so much the addition of MS Exchange support on Mail.app 4?
That's Exchange....not gmail. If you want to use gmail, then by all means do so, but don't confuse one feature set being a direct fit across apps, etc.
For Mail & gmail, what you're talking about is apparently 'automatic forwarding':

  • Gmail syncs erratically, slowly with Mail App even with Mavericks 10.9.2 update--whats wrong?

Mail on my MAC is always behind what I see on my iPhone or iPad mail. The iOS devices sync fast and accurately with Gmail: delete an email and I see it disappear on any iOS device I have. But it still shows up in the OS Mail program for a long time--often until I manually request several "syncs" to be made then it finally updates and disappears.
Same issue for new mail: instantly shows up on the iPad and iPhone iOS Mail but seems delayed (takes 15-20 minutes or longer sometimes or I must manually request a sync).
This does not happen all the time--occasionally it seems to sync up well. But MOST OF THE TIME it does not.
It seems the OS Mail is slow to sync and requires prodding before it does so.
Why can't the OS Mail app work as fast, accurately and automatically like it does on iOS Mail?
    Any ideas?
