Allan was somewhat incomplete in his statement. While technically it would be possible, from a licensing standpoint you need one license for each iPad unless those iPads were all going to be used by the same person (which I think unlikely given your described use). Here are the relevant terms of the iTunes Store agreement (emphasis mine):
"(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download and sync an App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on one or more iOS Devices used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals, on a single shared iOS Device you own or control. For example, a single employee may use an App Store Product on both the employee's iPhone and iPad, or multiple students may serially use an App Store Product on a single iPad located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each iOS Device used serially by multiple users requires a separate license."
So you would legally need to purchase one copy of the app for each iPad, something which would require an iTunes Store account for each iPad. For normal purchases, each iTunes Store account would need an associated credit card or prepaid iTunes card.
The Volume Purchase Plan works similarly - you still need one license and one iTunes Store account for each iPad - but the purchasing is centralized so you don't get billed multiple times. You get one recemption code for each license you purchase. See:

  • Mail app quit making sounds when sending/receiving mail.

Mail app quit making sounds when sending/receiving mail. It was fine yesterday and just went mute today. I have Mac OSX 10.7.2 and a MacBook Air. Is there any way to fix this easily?

I have the same issue. I'm wondering if I'm sending out viruses.
    Is this a common issue?
    Has this been solved?

  • Mail app will not open at all. I cannot even delete a mail account.  Wondering if daylight savings time has caused an issue.

When I click on the mail app it either immediately crashes and brings me back to the home screen or it opens briefly and tried to download all previous emails and crashes in the middle.  When I try to delete a mail account it says it can't because it is syncing.  I closed mail using the double click (which only shows a black white box) and I have rebooted three times.  The time changed today.  Could it be a bug?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Update of Mail app (Version 7.3) on OS X 10.9.4- no sublabels from Gmail

Gmail sub labels don't show anymore, but still show on iPhone and iPad (Gmail settings are all set to Show labels, but no specific option for sub labels) - this only happened after update, nothing was changed on Gmail settings (checked only afterwards).  How do I show sub labels of the 'All Mail' folder (Gmail) in Mail app again?

You downloaded a beta copy of 7.1 because the current version is 7.0.5. There was a mixup yesterday and 7.1 was accidentally made available for downloading. Do you have a backup you can restore from to get 7.0.5?
You can also try running the combo update to see if it will restore it.

  • Mail.app version can't be used in 10.6.3.

    Hi all,
I have (as far as I know) the latest version of mail.app and just upgradted OSX to 10.6.3. Got the msg "You have Mail version 4.2 (1077/1078). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.3 (Build 10D573). For more information, click the Help button"
    Any thoughts?
    J.

    My update of OS X to 10.6.3 made mail.app (v. 4.2 1078) unusable.
Connections to receive mail timed out repeatedly. This happened on both POP and
    IMAP accounts.
I tried to rebuild mailboxes/indexes, delete preferences, etc. Nothing worked. I set up new
accounts and had the same problem. I tried other email clients (Thunderbird and Seamonkey)
with existing and new accounts and had the same problem.
I set up Seamonkey running on a Vista machine on the same network with the same account
information as on the Mac and it worked fine.
I reinstalled the last OS update (10.6.3) again, no change.
I finally reinstalled the OS from the installation DVD. Now running OS X v. 10.6 and mail.app
    v. 4, and after a slow startup (caching attachments from the IMAP account) everything seems to
    be back to normal.
Besides the various email clients, no other applications seemed to be affected by the 10.6.3 update.

  • When I open my mail app it shows that I have unread mail, so I click mark all read and carry on my business. About 2 seconds later all the mail I just marked comes back unread. This keeps happening, what can I do?

Everytime I get a new email, I open the mail app and mark it as read. Recently, whenever I receive emails I mark them all read yet 2 seconds later they are all marked unread. I again mark them all read and the same thing happens. I now have 95 emails from 2 weeks ago that I clearly marked read but they won't stay read. What can I do?

  • When attempting to set up Mac OS to open a specific app (version), and selecting 'Change All' on Get Info, it reverts to most latest app version of the same.  Any clues?

When attempting to set up Mac OS to open files with a specific app (version), through 'Change All' on Get Info, it reverts to most latest version of the same app.  Any reason why it does not allow my other version of same app to be the default one?

I have Acrobat Pro 10.1.13 and Adobe Reader 10.1.13.
If I use the Finder to get all PDFS to open with Reader instead of Pro, they do.  And vice versa, using the Change All.

  • Mail app is not opening at all

    Hello
A couple of days ago I restarted my computer. When I tried to open the Mail app, it just bounced once and then stopped. Tried it a few more times and it mostly bounced once then stop but once in a while it will bounce multiple times then stop. I couldn't restart right away so later that day I tried restarting and nothing. The problem still existed.
I finally get some time to work on the problem between yesterday and today. I've tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist (actually this was missing when I first went looking for it), deleted ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/DownloadedMail (or whatever). Mail still wouldn't open.
Then I opened up a terminal and found any reference to "Mail" in my home directory and selectively deleted those as well (not in any stupid, blind way). The problem still persisted.
I decide, ok fine let's fire up time machine. Maybe /Applications/Mail.app got corrupt? Whatever, so I deleted it and restored the Mail app from 3 weeks ago (March 1st - when I knew it was still working) yet Mail still does not open.
I've completely run out of ideas on what to do next and any input would be greatly appreciated. Is there a way to enable a verbose log so I could figure out why Mail is crashing?
    Thanks!

Hi. I had the same problem today. I downloaded and installed the newest Onyx app, ran it's automation with the mail settings checked, restarted andd all is good. I think it was an issue with the mail envelope index but i'm not sure.
Hope it works for you as well.

  • Mail app strange behavior, default and all mailboxes not accessible

hello community! i have had this problem from months now and maybe years...a couple of days ago i bought my 5S and i thought that this should have pushed me to fix this and not just work around it...
so here's the deal MAIL APP, iPhone 5S 7.0.3
i have mail app setup with 5 gmail accounts, which receive and send email just fine, the problem comes when i need to check emails...here's what happens.
    i open the mail app
SOMETIMES i see on the bottom "downloading 250 email" (50 last emails for 5 accounts).
IF im fast enough...i would be able to enter in my default account or "all mailboxes", if i wait like a couple of seconds, boom! all mailboxes and default account become unaccessibe (GREY, like in the screenshot)...and they stay like this
when i manage to access the "all mailboxes", i see a bunch of NO SENDER emails that appear and disappear after a few seconds, all dated 1.1.01 and the email conversations with more than 1 email, i would be able to tap it, it would get evidenced but it wouldn't open the email conversation, this happens sometimes, sometimes it opens...
i have tried searching this issue, but nothing seemed as this, only found some random use with the no sender or duplicate emails, not my case...no sender emails appear and go away in manner of 2 seconds.
workoround: Gmail app works just fine, but i would love to use the native mail app
screenshot attached, i hope someone can help here. I ave covered the rest of the email accounts, but i assure you that they are black and not grey like the top ones.

and so again happened, was sending an email from my default account and boom!!
however, the email was sent, then this happened. this time the emails are from the 70's, probably someone that decided to pull my leg seein me in the future...lol

  • Set up mail app but it is sending ALL events from iCal to gmail with an error...

Previously, I had set up iCal to sync with gmail so I could have my calendar on my droid phone.  Today I tried to set up the mail app to sync with my yahoo mail account.  It works, and I can see my inbox, but for some reason when I open mail it attempts to send all of the events in iCal as alarms to Gmail.  It opens hundreds of windows and slows down my computer. Each message has an error about not having an outgoing mail server selected.  I've tried to delete my gmail from iCal to un- sync everything, but everytime I open mail it starts a domino effect of iCal alarm outgoing message windows. I can individually choose Yahoo! as the outgoing server, but it is incredibly slow and there are hundreds of them to go through...what do I do?

Have you checked the event log to see if there are any errors during the connector processing? The events will be logged in Application and Services Logs\Operations Manager. Look for any error messages during the time the connector was syncing. Most events
dealing with the ConfigMgr connector have a source of "Data Connectors" or "Lfx Service", but I would suggest looking through all of them from that time period. Let us know if you find anything there.

  • Using Mail.app on WiFi networks where all but port 80 are blocked

I use my iPad at my residence where WiFi is comes via  my Airport Extreme.  I have no problems sending mail from home with my iOS 5 device using iCloud.  However, when I find myself at a public library, conference facility, hotel, motel, etc. where there is WiFi, I usually find that I cannot send email.  These networks typically block all but the ports that websites use (80, 8080 and so on).  This means that the ports typically used by SMTP (25) are blocked and, thus, do not work.  Going to iCloud.com with mobile Safari does not enable the use of web mail as it would on a laptop.
So, I can't use iCloud web mail and I typically can't use Apple Mail on the iPad because SMTP ports are blocked.  What's a person in this situation to do?

    Hello Ivan.
The Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update introduced connection issues as a result of (according to the documentation) "Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy". If that's the problem, you must go to System Preferences > Network and disable the SOCKS Proxy in the network configuration used to connect to the Internet, if it's enabled.
You should also go to System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
