Mail app works fine, all other apps cannot connect to wifi - suggestions?
Hello
I can connect fine to my work wifi but only the mail app is working - googlemail account. Safari cannot find server and all other apps requiring wifi do not work.
All of the apps work fine when connecting to my home wifi so nothing wrong with the ipod.
Confused. Do different apps use different wifi settings?
Any help would be much appeciated!!
There might be a filter or firewall at work preventing access to internet. Check with your network administrator.

With 10.2 I can only use a system (e.g. speaker) output for audio, NOT my RME FF400 I used without any problems previously. The FF400 works fine with other apps (some like TwistedWave) setup in the program, and others (like Spotify) using system preferences & audio midi setup. How can I set the FF400 to be the sound output device in FCP 10.2? N.B. The FF400 is set as sound output device in both system preferences and audio midi setup.

I have the solution! Well it at least worked for me. This is the response I got from Apple, Can you please try the following steps towards fixing your audio issue, and report back with your results?
1. Open the application Audio Midi Setup (located in Applications : Utilities)
2. Select the Output Tab for the current output device
3. Select the Configure Speakers option
4. Select the Multichannel tab
5. Change the setting to Stereo Now mine was set to stereo but the left channel wasn't showing left. re-clicking on stereo reloaded the settings and after clicking apply it worked. -
From my Ipad, when I am in Facebook, I can not hear the videos posted to my FB page...Sounds works on all other apps just not my videos on my FB page.
Homesharing has issues that have not been fixed over several versions of itunes and ios.
Only kind of fix is go back through your library and retag it. -
My dictation on my macbook pro running mountain lion has stopped working on both my macs. Microphone works for all other apps WUZ UP

I have a Mac running 10.9.2. My apple wireless mouse will not scroll in Mail but works fine in other applications.

If you've installed a Mail plugin called "Mail Unread Menu" and you know how to remove it, please do that, then quit and relaunch Mail. Test. Otherwise, see below.
Back up all data.
1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.

I cannot connect to iTunes store but all other devices are connecting to wifi and working great in household???
It has been saying this message for weeks so I don't think it's that iTunes is down...thank you though! I have 3 iPads, I phone, and iPod that I cannot connect to iTunes on and am beyond frustrated -ready to return items at this point...

Garageband is not picking sound from builtin mic (rMBP).
I recorded some tracks, now it is not working. I have checked GB Preferences, Audio/MIDI > Audio Input > Built In Microphone.
All other apps can use the mic. Dictation, Skype etc. can use the mic!
Monitoring is switched ON at GB, it picks sound only some other app, eg. Skype, is used to access the mic.
Can any one help me, Please!

I can not scroll through web pages with the scroll feature on my touch pad. It worked in 3.6 and all other programs that I use. I have tried 4.0 twice with the same results, I've restarted, rebooted etc.
This should not be application dependant but a system function.
Now I will either roll back to 3.6 where I have troubles with some secure sites or just dump the whole thing and try Chrome.I have discovered the solution and it involves an issue I suspected. After the restore of my old Time Machine Lion files to my new MBP running ML, the restore restored my computer back to Lion. After an install of ML, my computer worked perfectly except the fancy Scroll and zoom featured we all love from the trackpad. Ha already installed ML on other partitions and the trackpad worked perfectly on them. Even the guest login's trackpad worked perfectly but not the main admin account.
First thought was to create a new admin account and copy everything from the old admin to the new admin and then delete the old admin account. Hated the idea because all files had to be copied rather than moved.
So what was left to do. I had thought of deleting all the apple preferences from the library and replace them with the contents of the library on another partition in ML. First I deleted old preferences many of which were old Lion preferences. That didn't solve the issue.
I forgot that Lion and ML HIDE the user library so I was working on the wrong library. Discovered the Terminal command "chflags nohidden ~/Library" and I chose to reveal the user library on a ML partition.
Solution:
I booted into another ML partition. I guess that I could have booted into the new admin user account and changed the permissions to access the old admin users Library But I chose to boot
from another ML partition: copy ALL the com.apple. XXXXX.plist files and the folder BY Host. It has special hidden files. Other way is to copy the Preferences folder we'll say into the Desktop.
I then proceeded to delete ALL the com.apple…….plist files and the Host folder into the trash. Then I copied all the apple.com…plist files and the Host folder and then rebooted. And now my wonderful Trackpad works as mountain Lion intended it to work.
I'm leaving this solution because there's someone else in the MacWorld with the same issue.

Permission err mounting blank DVD in finder, works fine in other apps
Hi I have an intel Mac Mini running OSX 10.4.9 fully patched.
I can not mount a blank DVD disk in the finder, if I insert one I get the following error message: "The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges".
Blank DVDs work fine with iDVD. Non blank DVDs also work just fine for playing movies or reading data.
I have tried repairing permissions with both Disk Utility and Onyx, neither makes any difference.
I have logged in as System Administrator (root) and the blank DVD works exactly as it is supposed to and I can create data disks.
So it seems like I really do have a permission problem, but not one that is fixed by Disk Utility.
Anyone have any ideas?

The solution is always the same: trash com.apple.finder.plist from your home /Library /Preferences. I hope it works for you but as for me, that is impossible. The com.apple.finder.plist DOES NOT EXIST!!! By the way, I noticed this error and also the error "No mountable file system" when trying to open any disk image immediately after Software Updates took me to 10.4.9 and it occurs in other admin users also, so it is not a user issue for me.

Mail checks email fine all day, then "loses connection."
I recently upgraded to Tiger, and I'm having an odd problem with mail. After a fresh restart, Mail will automatically check all my boxes (6 POP accts) just fine for quite a while (a whole day, eg.) but then, invariably, something will happen that results in the program being unable to connect with any of my accounts. Restarting the computer always fixes this problem. But I'm getting sick of restarting the computer every day -- I'm used to restarting it once a week at most.
Anyone have any experience with a problem like this?Hi, thanks for the initial suggestions. I've changed the settings to check mail every 5 mins instead of every min. Maybe it's a matter of hitting my POP servers too often? All my email hosting is through GoDaddy.
As far as Network port settings, I don't think it's a connectivity problem. Every time this has happened, all my other Internet connections continued to work fine. It's just that mail suddenly fails to connect to my POP accounts for no discernable reason. Closing and relaunching Mail doesn't resolve the issue; the only fix seems to be to restart the computer entirely. Upon restart, Mail once again connects to all POP accounts just fine.
When (if) it fails again, I'll post the specific error messages I get in the Connection Doctor. Maybe that will shed some light.

I just upgraded to ff 6.0.1 via an automatic push. Since then, ff hasnt been able to connect to the internet. Error message:

IE has no trouble connecting to the internet.After upgrading, your firewall may not be recognizing the new Firefox version and is not allowing it access to the internet. On your firewall progam's allowed applications list, remove Firefox, then re-start Firefox, try going to a website, your firewall will detect the new version of Firefox, then give the permissions needed for Firefox to have internet access.

ICloud backup on my IPAD2 only says 263mb backed up, did it include all apps?
None of your iTunes downloads are included in a backup, neither to the cloud nor on iTunes - an iCloud restore would redownload what it can from the store (e.g. apps that are still in your country's store, and if you haven't changed countries since buying them), an iTunes restore would pick them up your iTunes downloads from the relevant part of your iTunes library (Apps, Music etc). Only the apps content/settings are in the actual back up - you can see which apps that you are backing up to the cloud via Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > device name
If you haven't already done so then you should copy any iTunes downloads that aren't in your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, and take your own copy of any important documents/photos - as long as you've set their apps to backup to the cloud then they should be included in that, but it's best to have your own copy as well.
You could also take a backup on iTunes (File > Devices > Back Up) - that should take up a similar size as the cloud backup does (as it doesn't include any of your iTunes downloads or the contents of the Music and Videos apps). After you are happy that the update has gone through ok then you can delete the backup (though ideally you'd take a regular iTunes backup as well) via the Devices tab in Edit > Preferences in iTunes.
Emails are not included in a backup, only the email account's settings are. Also photos that were synced from a computer are not included, nether are the contents of the Music and Videos app.

Frustrated is an understatement. I can only receive email and surf in a browser (Safari). Software Update, iTunes Store, MobileMe Sync, FTP software, applications that checks for updates, or anything else that tries to connect to the internet can't.
For example, iTunes error appears when I try to connect to the Store: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The host is down. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
I did the usual disk repair, repair permissions, and nothing worked. I checked my Airport Extreme settings and router. I tried the iTunes Store from another user, and the problem was the same.
I decided to archive and install the OS. This fixed it, but only for a day or so. Then, the problem returned. Aside from wiping the hard drive, I don't know what to do.Ping has started ...

One Z10 works fine, the other has problems connecting to mobile network
Hi, my wife and I both have Z10's, and we're both on the same mobile network (Wind Mobile in Canada). The wife's Z10 seems to have no problems connecting to or staying connected to Wind Mobile. Mine on the other hand seems to randomly drop the connection, or has trouble obtaining connection, and sometimes ends up roaming.
The only difference between the two Z10's is that hers is purchased through Wind Mobile itself, and it is locked to their network for the moment. I purchased mine a bit later, and I bought mine directly through Blackberry's online store, and mine is therefore unlocked. What I have to do sometimes is turn off the mobile connection, and turn it back on, and it works after I do that. However, that's annoying, as I'd rather have it automatically retry the network connection so that it doesn't go roaming within my own city.

In the meantime, try resetting your phone. This is equivalent to doing a battery pull and it's usually the first thing I recommend when troubleshooting an issue. Simply press and hold your power button for about 15 seconds until you see BlackBerry on your screen. Don't release the button before that and ignore anything that appears before BlackBerry.
