Mail appears to send, but really isn't.

This is a bizarre problem. I have two partitions (well, hard drives), but which have their own installation of Tiger. I have been using one partition for a while, have my mail set up (a .mac account and several POP accounts). Things work fine.
Then I boot into this other partition and also set up mail there. (Don't ask me why I do this, it's rather convoluted!) I have been sending and receiving mail and everything appears to be fine. But then people have started to complain that I'm not answering their emails, and it turns out that nope—nothing is going through. Sending mail works fine on the other partition (the one I've been using longer) but not on this one.
I reinstalled Tiger on this second partition (for a variety of reasons) and figure that this would fix the email problem. But nope—it's still doing the same thing. It appears to send the mail (makes the "whoosh" sound like it's sent it, appears in the "sent" folder), but nothing happens.
Oh, and another thing—my .mac account is unaffected. It can send out email fine.
Please help! I don't understand this! I guess I can always boot into that other partition to send out email, but obviously that's not my first choice.
I'm using Comcast Cable and am using the outgoing SMTP address of "smtp.comcast.net" (like I have been for years). I even tried putting in my Comcast username and password and authenticating, but that hasn't made any difference. I will probably call Comcast tomorrow to see what they say. I am stumped!

This is very curious! You need to investigate what, if any differences, there would be in the messages being sent? Look for differences in use of Rich Text Format vs Plain Text, where attachments are involved. Anything different about the composition of the messages is a possible rationale for the recipient's mail server and SPAM filter to be blocking the messages you have sent, rather than anything on your end of things. If messages leave the Outbox, and are stored in the Sent mailbox they were sent by the SMTP.

Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1. The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.

Try Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Your email account>Advanced>Move Discarded Messages into>Deleted Mailbox.

I can receive mail but can't send it from Mail 3.5. Same problem on a wired G5 and on a wi-fi MacBook (using the same account), so not hardware related. Worked fine 'till today - I didn't change anything in between times. Incoming mail no problem. Tried mail rebuild, keychain first aid, deleting the account, repair disk permission - doesn't help.
Mail's connection doctor says "smpt.xxxxxx - connection to server succeeded, no login required."

Been having the same problem for a few weeks now. This has been working just fine, and all of a sudden - nothing. The update to 10.5.6 didn't do anything to fix this either.
I've spent numerous hours on the phone with the Apple support. Seeing as the two other accounts that I have configured work with no problem, they say that this is a problem with the provider which is also the ISP. I then called the support line for the ISP and informed them of this and they say that it's a problem with the software.
Interestingly, if I send a message to somone with the same ISP, the message will go. But I can't send a message outside of the provider. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, from another forum, they suggested rebuilding the LaunchServices database. The Apple support didn't see what that would do. But I tried it anyway and the problem still exists.
Another intesting thing is certificates. It's only happened twice, but I've received the message saying that Mail can't verify the certificate XXXXX which validates the identity of the smtp. Anyone else get this? I thought perhaps I could delete the certificate and it would magically reappear. But when I go into KeyChain, the certificate is listed only under System Root and I can't delete it.

I have two mail programs: mac mail and thunderbird. Mail will not send mail, but Thunderbird will. Any suggestions?

Yeah stop trying to make Mac Mail work and just use Thunderbird. You really don't need 2 Mail programs.

E-mail won't send, but can't find it

I replied to an e-mail and when I did so, I must have touched the original sender's email address, because when I tried to send it, I got the message:
Cannot send mail
The sender address "[email protected]" was rejected by the server.
Of course it was, because I'm the sender, not that address that the dialogue box is saying.
The problem is, I can't find that message so I can delete it. As a result, every time the iPhone checks mail, I get the above message.
I thought it would be in the iPhone "outbox," but I don't see an Outbox in the list of mailboxes--I only see an inbox, drafts (which is empty), sent, trash, deleted messages, and "saved forever" (a mailbox I created on the Mac.
Anyone have any ideas where this email is, and I how I can get rid of it?

From mac mail, I can send but not receive mail. Also, on the same mac, I can run mail through Entourage and no issues with sending or receiving

Mail won't send, but only from my apartment/airport

It seems as if it has been for the last two weeks or so that anytime I attempt to send emails through Mail, that they won't send. But if I go to the coffee shop, or a friends apartment it sends with no issue.
Is it a possibility I accidentally messed up some security/privacy setting in either Mail or with my Airport?

not sure if this is the answer but I had a similar problem recently - my ISP changed required settings so my outbound mail had to be something like "SMTP.isp.com" instead of "smtp.gmail.com"
It was a change they made over a weekend so I didn't know about it -- so my first suggestion would be to check with your ISP.

I just got a new iMac and transferred data,apps etc from external backup. Mail app will receive messages as normal but I cannot reply or send new. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

First thing to try would be to double-check the "Outgoing Mail Server" settings in Mail, Preferences, Accounts.

After a power faliure last week our mail programme will now only send emails & not recieve. We are using Mac OSX Tiger Mail Programme. Anyone have any bright ideas.
We have not changed the configuration of the machine or installed any new programmes. The activity viewer can see our mail waiting but will freeze when trying to download the mail. Could the programe have corrupted when we were hit by the power cut??

When I try to email documents from my iPad 2 it appears to send but never shows up in my sent box or in the receiver's email account. this has only been happening since the last update for my ipad. How can this be corrected?

When I "share" documents from Pages or GoodReader via email It looks and sounds like documents have been sent but they never arrive and when I check my "sent" file, they aren't there. Very frustrating! I know I've sent them this way before and it worked so wondering if it's something to do with the latest updates to 6.1.3

Which email service provider are you using? You can install DropBox and share links to the files that way. When you snd to your self (cc or bcc) do the items show up? What file types and sizes are these attachments? Are you sending over WiFi or cellular connection? Try using more than one email account from a different provider (Gmail, yahoo, iCloud, etc) and see if it is email provider specific.

Mail suddenly wont send, but receives

when I click the mail to send, I no longer get the "spinning circle" next to outbox. if I click on the mail to send again, nothing happens. this happened within a 3 hour time period and I didn't download anything at all, so it's nothing that came into the system. it literally happened while I was watching the system. at one point it just kept spinning and spinning and not sending. then it stopped spinning and now won't send anything at all.
help!

if it truly isn't charging thats something that would be covered under warranty simply go to a apple store and get a replacement
