Mail application in osx 10.6 is damaged

Hello,
what has happen is, that my girlfriend went into my mail. And to not leave marks, she tried to delete the history in finder about visting my mail.
She tried to delete the mail application, and while being in the trash, she couldnt delete since the mail app still was in use. So se choosed to put it back and restart the computer..
Now the problem is, that everytime I try to open the mail application, it says mail application in osx is damaged..
What ive tried.
Verify permission and repair them NO-GO
Deleted the envelope index file and restarted NO-GO
What can I try more?
boot up on my snow leopard cd, and try to rebuild the system?

Boot with your install disc, reinstall SL, and then run Software Update. Once up and running, you need to have a discussion with the GF about privacy and trust issues.

Hi,I always find my mail application stuck whenever I open.Every time I have to force quit it.Can any one give suggestions.

Quit Mail if it's open. Click anywhere on your Desktop, then depress the OPTION key. Go to the Finder's Go menu and select the Library option. Locate the Preferences folder and open it. Look for a file named, "com.apple.mail.pllist." Move it to your Desktop. Re-open Mail and see if this helps.

  • Can I turn the OSX.7 'Mail' application OFF?

How can I completely remove the Apple Mail application from ever opening automatically?
I only use web-based email programs and have successfully configured most settings to default to my yahoo service for sending and receiving. However, a few still default to the Apple program, causing a number of problems when it opens uninvited including sending dozens of reminders and old emails that weren't removed from the server (probably a different problem, but it seems that just turning mail 'off' would be the simplest fix).
Now I'm even learning that OTHER people's notifications and reminders on shared calendars (in ical) are opening Mail automatically, and that is REALLY annoying.
Is there a way to end this frustration?

Quit all apps that are using the camera:
OS X Mavericks: Use your Mac computer’s built-in camera.
If you have hidden any Login items,
you should still be able to see if they are working in Activity Monitor.

I have lost my mail application on the dock and in the application folder. Is a download available for osx 10.6?

Possibly installing the big 10.5.8 Combo will bring it back, but first...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    1058 Combo Update, 10.5.8...

    Repair Permissions afterwords, reboot.

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.

  • Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, when I try to add attachments in Yahoo mail -- running Mac OSX 10.4.11, FF 3.6.16.

Firefox has consistently crashed when adding attachments in Yahoo mail. For a while Firefox would crash immediately when I clicked "attach." Then, for a while it would allow me to upload files if they were located in a folder that the Yahoo mail application opened when I clicked "attach," but if I tried to navigate to a different folder, I would crash when I clicked on the root user folder. I then updated Flash and tried Firefox in safe mode, and now Firefox (in safe mode or not) is again crashing as soon as I click attach in Yahoo mail. My system is as above, Mac OSX Tiger (10.4.11) on an original Mac Pro, all stock parts (I had added some aftermarket RAM but removed it some time ago, before these crashes started). Firefox does NOT generate a crash report dialog when I restart.

can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

  • Mail unexpectedly quits when I try to open the Mail Application 4.5 and system is 10.6.8

Mail unexpectedly quits when I try to open the Mail Application 4.5.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
I have tried the suggestions already given on Lists, and nothing has yet worked...

    10.6.8 is not Mountain Lion.
How big is your hard drive, and how full is it?
Did you happen to download any system cache cleaners?  Those can damage its ability to function.
    Have you tried repairing permissions?
    Is your data backed up?
    Is Spotlight indexed?
Is the Mail trying to load an IMAP, POP or Exchange account?

  • Need Help - Mail Application Folder Issues

I have 2 mail accounts. One is an exchange account, another is a standard hosted mail service with IMAP interface.
Both are setup as IMAP (Exchange option didn't show all folders, so I had to use IMAP for Exchange.)
The mail application just plain doesn't work for any folder management, on either account.
If I move messages, it's not moved on the server. If I send a message, it isn't stored in the Sent folders.
Most of the time, it doesn't put the mail anywhere. When I send mail messages, it creates a Sent items folder under the drafts folder.
The IMAP prefixes are correct, and I can see all folders. The Folder behaviors are set to the proper server side folders.
    I've restored, rebooted, etc.
    Any other suggestions?

There are no synchronize options on the PC mail apps, they are live clients. Outlook for work, OWA for my personal account.
This problem is happening with two accounts. One personal exchange, and one externally hosted (not exchange, actually webmail.us) for our company.
I am the Senior Software Architect/Engineer for the IT department and I have spoken with webmail.us as well as our infrastructure group and am very familiar with Exchange.
All issues and troubleshooting steps so far point to the need to troubleshoot the client application itself on the iPhone, especially since other IMAP clients have no issue using the exact same settings.
As a matter of fact, everything works 100% fine from the OSX mail client using IMAP for the exact same accounts with the exact same settings on my MacBook ultimate.
It makes a copy of a moved message in the proper folder, and leaves the original in the inbox. This is how the iPhone client should work, right?

  • Why is the mail application so unreliable?

I have made my move to a Mac laptop this year after being overrun with iOS devices in my house. The MacBook Air I have is an awesome machine. One of the main things I got it for is for business productivity. The simplest of things I should be able to do is communicate over email, but the native mail application is so unreliable it is embarrassing. I have a yahoo account that I was able to setup fine enough. Every time I send an email it is a gamble as to whether or not it is sent or not. That is unacceptable. The mail accounts I setup on my iOS devices seem to be bulletproof and it boggles my mind that the mail client on the Mac OS is so bad. I wasted time with the support lines on several occassions and all they could tell me is tht sometimes after I send an emal it can get stuck in between sending and getting off the yahoo server so there is no record it has been sent and no copy in drafts. What an awful answer. It has gotten to the point where the only way I am confident to use email is on my iPhone or through the web browser on the yahoo site. I am really unhappy about this and would like to know if other people see the same problem.

I'm spending hours with the techies on my server, which is the cable company we contract with. First I kept getting the message that Mail didn't recognize the server but it would connect when I clicked Connect. Then it started letting me receive messages but not send. Now I can't do either, and the company has no help for me. I have run the disk utility verify and repair options and it tells me all is well.
I don't want my emails anywhere on the web, just here at home. The cable techs have gone over and over the technicalities on their end and have concluded that Apple Mail is the problem. I find evidence of that in much online grumbling, but here I find only self defense.
    How could you help me?
    1. Admit that your software has bugs. Tell me some things I could try to get my email working again. I'm finding such protocol elsewhere on the web but it all seems to relate to earlier versions of OSX.
    2. Show me where I could upgrade to a less buggy version than 6.2. This is my second laptop in the past year (first one stolen) and each had different problems with Mail. The first one kept losing mail. Messages would come in and then be gone when I'd go to answer them. Important items I would not delete. That's not happening with this one -- it just keeps losing connection with my server.
Please stop pretending that anyone who has problems with Mail is afflicted in some way. There are problems, and I'm very shocked that Apple, who used to be one of the good guys (at least in my book), seems to to be stuck on a policy of self righteousness. Guys, your halo is tarnished with Apple Mail -- time to realize that and cope.

  • Kernel Panic on opening Mail application

When I try to open the Mail application I get this message
The mailbox “~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Outbox.mbox” is currently locked by “(null)” on host “<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>”. If you open a mailbox that already is in use, you may damage its contents.
And it give me three options
    1) Open read only 2) Quit 3) Open Anyway
When I click on either "Open read only" or "Open Anyway" I get a Kernel Panic and I have to restart the computer.
    Any help will be appreciated

Appears that you have some file system corruption. DiskWarrior by Alsoft will probably fix the problem.
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
However, most kernal panics are related to hardware problems. Can you isolate to a hardware device?
Issues with a hardware device can sometimes appear to be software issues, but are not resolved with software troubleshooting. Eliminate hardware as a cause (or conversely, isolate the issue to software):
    1. Disconnect external devices. If the computer is an iBook or PowerBook computer, disconnect all external devices. For an iMac, disconnect all devices other than the Apple keyboard and mouse. For a Power Mac, disconnect all external devices other than one display (which should be connected to an original, built-in video port), and the original Apple keyboard and mouse. If this resolves the issue, add devices back one at a time (shut down first if the device requires it) to further isolate the issue.
    2. Insert the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with your computer (if one did). Use the extended test. If any issues are found proceed to step 3, or contact AppleCare or your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider to arrange for diagnostics and service as necessary.
    3. Shut down the computer and remove any third-party memory upgrades, expansion cards, additional hard drives, or other internal hardware upgrades. If you are not comfortable doing this, an Apple Authorized Service provider can assist. A service fee may be charged if the issue is not related to your Apple hardware. Alternatively, you may wish to skip this step and go to "Reinstall Mac OS X" below.
    * If the issue is resolved, add your devices back one at a time. When the issue returns, remove the most recently-added device. If the issue goes away again, you have identified the cause. If software was included with the device, try deleting and reinstalling it. You may also wish to contact the vendor or manufacturer of that device for specific troubleshooting steps.
    * You may want to test devices on all available ports into which they can be used. If a USB device works on USB port 1 but not on USB port 2, try connecting other devices to port 2. It is possible that your computer's ports aren't working properly.

  • Can't recover lost Mail application

My mail application (software) mysteriously vanished, and I can't find a way to recover it. I'm not aware that I did anything to cause this. One minute it was working fine, then a short while later Mail would not launch. Search of the directory fails to locate any Mail application program, although as far as I can tell all the other Mail files are still there (saved mail, settings, etc.). I've been using OS X 10.2.8 for many months, and reloading it doesn't help. My original program discs are 10.1, so no help. Running TechTool Deluxe and Apple Hardware Test discs from my extended warranty (now expired) don't reveal any problems. Also ran Yasu 1.0.3, which did return the following error message---

Hi thomacl, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You posted in the wrong forum for 10.2, this is the Tiger forum but I think I can help you.
You may be able to repair this with the10.2.8 Stand Alone Combo Update It would be the easiest way.
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Remember to Repair Disk before update and repair permissions before and after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Apple Mail Application Problems - Cannot connect to Server

    Hello Apple Community.
For the past two days my Mail application on my iPad and MacBook do not. It is as if there is a problem with the internet but my internet it working fine. The app opens and loads and continues to load but then says it Cannot Connect to Server.
Is there any way to fix this problem. I do not have OSX Mavericks.
    Please help.
    Thanks

If the problem exists on two different devices (different operating systems), your router or ISP is probably the reason. Contact your ISP for help.

  • HT1277 How do I sync my college email that ends in .edu with my Mac Mail application and on my iphone?

    Hello,
Can anyone give me some instructions on how to sync my college email, which ends with .edu on my Macbook running Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8) using the Mail application and on my Iphone 4S running IOS 6.01?

If your mail account ending in .edu is a POP mail account, messages will download to each device, unless you just view them with a web browser via the internet, so that all messages stay on the server.
If you want to sync devices and mail, you need to have an IMAP account.
See this for deeper description of POP versus IMAP mail accounts.

  • Help with restoring mail application on the dock

I accidentally threw the mail application in the trash and permanently deleted it. How do I restore this? I have already downloaded the update for OSX 10.4.4.
If anyone can tell me how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Do you mean the application or the dock icon? The dock icon is just a shortcut and mail should still be in your applications folder, if that's what you trashed. Just launch it by double clicking, then click the icon and choose Keep in Dock from the menu.
