Mail application - issues

After installing latest OS 10.9 I have noticed the following TWO porblems so far. There could be more unnoticed as yet.
1. The serach function of mail applications does not work at all
2. GMails - at random mails getting into Archive folders. For e.g: aoem mails received today are archived.
Apprecaite for solutions
Thanks
Ratna Gopal

I did update OS 10.9.1- no use.. Apple care folks in India worked on this issue for 50 days and could not help..
The mail search function does not work.
Flg were attempted with futile results:
- The data was erased and OS installed afresh
- Hard dosc partition was made and OS was isntalled afresh on one part
- Reinstalled Mountain lion
I am frustated with thsi nagging probelm unresolved.
There is no escalation mechanism in place with Apple care- This is agonising

  • Mail application crashing on start-up (HELP)

I have been encountering serious mail application issues over the past few days, which have escalated to a crash every time the application is run. When mail is opened, it will begin to load, indicating that it is "updating number of attachments for message 579 of 6660' then it will hang for a few seconds and unexpectedly quit.
Can someone please help me with this?

  • Need Help - Mail Application Folder Issues

I have 2 mail accounts. One is an exchange account, another is a standard hosted mail service with IMAP interface.
Both are setup as IMAP (Exchange option didn't show all folders, so I had to use IMAP for Exchange.)
The mail application just plain doesn't work for any folder management, on either account.
If I move messages, it's not moved on the server. If I send a message, it isn't stored in the Sent folders.
Most of the time, it doesn't put the mail anywhere. When I send mail messages, it creates a Sent items folder under the drafts folder.
The IMAP prefixes are correct, and I can see all folders. The Folder behaviors are set to the proper server side folders.
    I've restored, rebooted, etc.
    Any other suggestions?

There are no synchronize options on the PC mail apps, they are live clients. Outlook for work, OWA for my personal account.
This problem is happening with two accounts. One personal exchange, and one externally hosted (not exchange, actually webmail.us) for our company.
I am the Senior Software Architect/Engineer for the IT department and I have spoken with webmail.us as well as our infrastructure group and am very familiar with Exchange.
All issues and troubleshooting steps so far point to the need to troubleshoot the client application itself on the iPhone, especially since other IMAP clients have no issue using the exact same settings.
As a matter of fact, everything works 100% fine from the OSX mail client using IMAP for the exact same accounts with the exact same settings on my MacBook ultimate.
It makes a copy of a moved message in the proper folder, and leaves the original in the inbox. This is how the iPhone client should work, right?

  • HT4623 I updated to iOS 6.1, now the mail application will not load. My settings for each email account are still in there, I have synched several times, and rebooted several times. Sill nothing. Why is there no support for upgrade issues ??

I refuse to pay for support for an issue caused by an upgrade. That is just ridiculous.

I'm having the exact same problem.  When I select an email the mail application pauses for a couple seconds, the screen goes black and then I go to the home screen.  Have you found anything more on this issue?  Didn't have this problem before upgrading to 6.1.

  • Incoming messages issues with Mail application

I'm using an email account attached to my internet company and set up with the "Mail Application" on my Mac. For the past week, When I turn "Mail" on, the Mail Activity window would show me the incoming message in progress, ex: 1 out of 26. The process would move forward showing also the speed of the reception (KB/s) and for no reason it would stop in the middle and stop receiving any email. It would basically freeze and I have to quit Mail by "force quit". If I re-open it again, it would be doing the exact same thing and receiving again the first couple emails, always the same one that I already received and freeze in the middle. I basically can't use Mail at all lately. Any idea to fix this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    cool, I'm not alone...
I can't remember exactly, when the problem started. I guess it was around the 10.5.2 or 10.5.3 update. Before (also in Leopard) Mail worked fine.
Now I have to do the following procedure to receive an email (note: I have to repeat this for each email):
    1. Check, if mail is receiving an email (because it never completes receiving on it's own, I'm never notified of the new email).
    2. If Mail is receiving an email (check the Activity window), I have to force quit mail
    3. Launch Mail again, immediately hurrying to the Mailbox menu and setting all accounts to offline.
By now, the email has already been received from the server but not internally marked as such, so staying online would result in fetching the same email again – hanging 'afterwards' included.
    4. Select the Inbox and open the Get Account Info window by right clicking on the Inbox or pressing cmd + i.
    5. Select the corresponding account from the list (I got three POP3 accounts), e.g. the one for which the last email has been received.
    6. Manually remove this email (and only this one) from the server.
    7. Close the Get Account Info window and take all accounts online again.
    8. Check for new mail...
+If I would for example get 4 new emails, I would have to repeat this procedure 4 times.+
Yes, I'm not happy about it.
*I already did the following (using hints from other threads):*
    Remove Mail.app, and /Library/Mail/
Installing Mail.app and the /Library/Mail/ folder again from the 10.5.0 DVD using Pacifist.
Updating the former installation with the 10.5.6 Combo update
Installing the Mail Update 10.5.6 afterwards
    Removing the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Restart
Launch Mail, setting up all accounts from scratch
    Create a new user
Open Mail, setting up a new account
    Reset Power Management
*So far, nothing did solve the problem.*
Next would be Archive and Install Mac OS X but I currently don't have the time for that procedure.
I have two Mac Pros (one at work, one at home) who both have this issue.
I believe, it's a bug though and will send this text to Apple via "Provide Mail Feedback" in Mail's Mail menu.

  • Today I tried to shutdown my computer and a window popped up saying that my computer could not shut down because the mail application was open, it wouldn't close, so I used a key combination to force mail to quit and now I can't log in. Help?

Okay, so I have been having trouble with my mail application all week. The window refused to open and would not quit. Today, I tried to shut down my mac and a pop up window told me that I was unable to shutdown because mail was open. After using a key combination, I successfully was able to quit mail with force quit. Then I was able to shut down with out a problem. However, upon rebooting, my computer refused to let me loggin. I put in my password correctly but then the rainbow pinwheel showed up and stalled for a minute and then my screen flashed and the gray screen reappeared, expecting a password. I tried turning it off and back on again with no luck. I also reset my password after reading a similar discussion, but I still can't log in. How can I fix this?

  • Mail application will not open at all

My Mail app won't open at all. It bounces once and then nothing. I ran the Disk Utility and re-started. I tried opening it with the Shift key down, and tried moving the Mail folder and the preferences files (but it won't open at all, so I don't think that is really relevant anyways). I created another user account and the problem is duplicated in that account. What do I do next? Do I need to re-install the Mail application? How do I do that?
    Many thanks in advance.
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

What does “I ran the Disk Utility” mean? Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, as well as the latest Security Update released for that version of Mac OS X that included updates for Mail. If you were running Mac OS X 10.3.9, that would be:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
Security Update 2007-003 for Mac OS X 10.3.9
I’ve provided a link for Security Update 2007-003 instead of for the latest Security Update because I don’t know for sure whether the latest includes previous security updates — from the file size, it looks like it does, but the documentation doesn’t say so (it does in the case of Security Update 2007-003).
You may also want to read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • How can I set Yahoo mail as my default mail application on Mac Mail?

I am trying to make Yahoo Mail (free version, not Yahoo mail Plus!) my default mail application. This would allow me to cick on any link sending e-mails and it will launch the yahoo mail application to send mail from there, obviously. For this to happen I need to open Mac "Mail > Preferences >" and choose "Default email reader" under the "General". I then choose the email application of my choice (Yahoo in my case). "GMail Notifier" for Google fans.
I am not able to find a Yahoo application mail in my application folder or on the Internet, and frankly speaking, Yahoo mail support absolutely suck, and getting a hold of them is nearly impossible! There is a free applet out there called "Yahoomailer" that might do the job, but either I am installing it wrong since when I download and click on it nothing happens, or it does not work properly on my machine. So, I am turning to the community to get some help with this issue. All I need is to know if there is a Yahoo mail app out there that can be installed on MAC and shows up on my Mail > Preferences > Default email reader.
    Thank you,
    I am using MAC OS X 10.8.2

My tools menu does not show "options" as a choice - any idea why? Thanks

  • My Mail application is rejecting my password even though I'm putting it in correctly. Mail is working fine on my iPad and iPhone but not my iMac so it must be something to do with the Mail settings on my desktop. My software is up to date.  Can you help?

I have an iMac, operating system 10.7.4 with up to date software. My mail application is rejecting my password even though I know I am putting it in correctly. I have an ipad and iphone and the mail application is working fine on them. On my desktop however I cannot receive or send mail. I think it must be something to do with the settings but cannot work out what. I have contacted BT who provides my email and internet. As I have another email address with them that is working correctly they believe it is a problem with mail rather than with them. Please can you help?

    OK Vicky, good clues...
    See if this helps...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over. See if there are duplicates, should be one for Incoming & one for Outgoing.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Poor Text Wrapping in Apple's Mail Application

I sometimes received email that's formatted poorly. This is in the Apple Mail Application. Maybe the first line is a full line of text, the second line is one word, and this alternates ad nauseum. Is there any way to get email that displays poorly to display in a more readable manner?
Some people on other threads have suggested that in Mail, I could go to View-->Message-->Plain Text Alternative, but the Plain Text Alternative is always greyed out for me, so even if it works for some people, the greyed out option dictates I can't use that option.
    Thanks in advance!!!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

In my experience, that has been an issue with how a sender is formatting their mail. Often teh formatting was unintentional; the sender tried chaning something else and managed to hit so mail format option by mistake. If that is the case, teh sender probably doesn't know anything is wrong and that will make it harder for you to help them fix it.

Sorry, I don't know.  But have you already tried selecting your sig and using the usual alignment tools?  It seems to work for me when used in the new message pane.

  • Cannot install Mail application after downgrade Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.7.5.

Dear Mac fans, maybe somebody can help me with expirience or advice how to install Mail application on Mac OS X 10.7.5.
After I made downgrade from Mac OS X 10.9 (Maverick) to 10.7.5. (Lion) Mail application didnt work properly and report some errors.
During installation of Mac OS X 10.7.5 I use Time Machine and all other program and/or data working properly. Only Mail application not!
I find some information that Mail application is part of MAC OS X and tht is neccessary to reinstall whole MAC OS X to get mail application.
Will somebody have procedure or way how to solve this issue?!
    Really thanks in advance,
    Rusmir

That is correct. You must use OS X Recovery to restore OS X in order to reinstall the Mail app.
OS X: About OS X Recovery
There is no standalone download available.

  • Links in e-mails from Mac Mail Application won't open in a web browser

I use my Mac Mail application for all my e-mail accounts. I switched from Safari to Mozilla Firefox and now links I try to click on in my e-mails do not open in a mozilla browser as I they did when I had Safari as my main browser. I've tested Chrome and Safari and the links open when clicked using both of those browsers. However, I prefer Mozilla to both of those and would like to get this working as it is a convenience to have to copy and paste links every time.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/ and try to open Mail by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, try reinstalling the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
