Mail application sending messages mutiple times

It appears that my Mail application is sending my emails multiple times. Not all the time, only some of the time. My sent mailbox only shows one message sent but recipients are receiving multiples. Any thoughts

My Mail application is sending sporadic duplicates as well. I'm on a G5 running OS 10.5.5. My email runs through Go Daddy and I've checked with them and they say it's a Mac Mail issue. I send mail to a variety of placed, obviously, and several people have responded that they're receiving messages twice. I'm also getting an error message every once in a while that asks me to choose an outgoing mail server from a list. It's the same outgoing server listed twice. I'm thinking this has to do with the fact that I have two inboxes since I have two different email addresses. If I can't resolve this issue, I'll have to either delete one of my addresses, which would be really inconvenient, or switch mail applications. Any thoughts?

  • Native email sends message multiple times

Since I have updated to the new OS, the email app is now sending messages multiple times. When I initially send it, it appears to be unsuccessful, as it is in the Inbox with a red X. But the message is sent. The app keeps trying to send the "unsuccessful" message, and the recipient ends up receiving the same message more than once. Anyone else having this problem, or have an answer?

This issue has not yet been resolved in the below thread either.

I would give rim a call to let them know of your problems.
If they can't track it they won't know how many users this is affecting. I imagine it will get solved a lot quicker if they know just how many users it's affecting.

  • Yahoo Mail - "Cannot Send Message"

    Hello,
I am having issues with Yahoo mail and sending messages. It seems to happen specifically while trying to send emails with attachments. I receive an error that says "Error sending message" and alludes to a connection problem but I don't see any detailed error information with it.
The MacBook connects either directly to a Ethernet cable or wireless to a NetGear WGR602.
I don't know much about Safari but are there are settings I can modify to see if the issue can be resolved? The user says that she does not have this problem at home but only when she is on this network.
Has anyone encountered this and have any tips I can try to resolve it? When I get some time to sit and work on the laptop I will check to see what versions all of the software is at. Right now I have only had a few minutes to sit at the MacBook and observe the errors.
    Thanks in advance!

Short of installing Firefox or moving directly to Mac Mail, is there anything I can look to do either with Safari or the Yahoo interface itself?
Not really. If the user has a free Yahoo! Mail account, they can't use Mail to send/receive anyway; they'd have to pay $20 a year for a Yahoo! Mail Plus account for that privilege.
Yahoo! has never made any real effort to be standards-compliant, much less compatibile with Macintosh, which is why some features work only when using Firefox on a Mac (because Firefox is the second-most popular browser for Windoze). The only other thing the user could do is use the Yahoo! Help pages for Yahoo! Mail and send them an email using their web form about their problem and see if they can address the issue on their end, since it is their problem. He/She should make it crystal-clear that they are using Safari for Mac OS X, and if they get a boilerplate reply about IE, reply to that and ask for a supervisor.
They could also try using the Develop menu in Safari to select a different User Agent in the hope that spoofing an IE browser will make it work, but there's no guarantee with that. They could just resign themselves to using Firefox when using Yahoo! Mail, or they could also try switching to the "Classic" Yahoo! Mail interface, which will have some limitations in features, but it may also avoid this problem when sending some email.

  • The Mail application blocks messages

    Hello,
The Mail application blocks messages in the Outbox with all accounts (MobileMe, Gmail,...).
In addition, the application closes with CMD + Q or with a mouse click??
When I launch the application, the message window does not open automatically.
    Thank you for helping me.

    That is correct.
I have this problem with version 10.7.2 Lion
Last week I spoke with technical support from Apple.
We have deleted the MobileMe account then I reinstalled.
There, things are back in order, but here I am again stuck with several emails in the outbox.

  • Mountain Lion Mail.app Sends Email Several Times While Drafting Reply

Using Mail.app in Mountain Lion and the default configuration of Gmail via IMAP (as configured by Mail.app) when I reply to an existing message, Mail.app sends the partially completed email message several times while I am drafting the message, without me hitting the send button. This does not occur when composing new messages. I have not yet determined what is causing the message to send. My working theory is that it is sending the message each time a draft is saved to the server. Any insight on what is happening (or confirmation that other people are experiencing the same behavior) would be appreciated.

I have 4 accounts running, 2 POP and 2 IMAP, after doing some checking today with a mac engineer online, it appears that it is incoming mail only affected and only on the POP accounts. I had previously tried recreating the accounts but as from today even just quitting Mail and reopening no longer works... the engineer has had to exculate my call to a specialist who in turn has now had to send it off to a specialist team to work on. When I get results, I will post them in case it helps someone else.

  • OSX Mail - Cannot send message using the server ....

    Hi there,
    Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.
*Can receive mail, but can no longer send email* using the program Mail.
Been getting the popup "Cannot send message using the server [shawmail.vc.shawcable.net] for the past 3 days. I hadn't changed anything about my computer, and have had the Mac for 2+ years. So this just started doing it on it's own.
I had a technical support guy from my service provider even interface with my computer, where he could see my desktop right over the internet, and he couldn't get it fixed either.
I googled this problem, and found solutions like:
    1. Uncheck "Use SSL" (Done that, and it was never checked "on" to begin with)
    2. Make sure Authentication is set to none, with no password (done that, and it wasn't set with a password to begin with)
    3. Delete [user]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (done that, didn't do anything)
    4. We even totally deleted my account, and started a new fresh one. Didn't work
The tech support guy did show me a way to email online, using the same email account. That worked, but it's a hassle to go onto a web-based email program -- it's not my preference. So, with great certainty, it's not my service provider, because I was able to send emails on this web-based email program using my email account.
    So there, I'm stumped.
Hopefully someone can help. What's bizarre is that googling this problem, I have found many other people that say it happens arbitrarily, out of nowhere.

I can't believe how ridiculous this issue is. i have been searching for days for a solution to this. i have tried EVERY recommendation on these forums and nothing works. It appears that this issue dates back to TIGER. I had this problem back in January and just bagged figuring it had something to do with iweb. I bought a new html program and was able to send out my newsletter last month no problem. Suddenly, one month later- here i am again, unable to send out my newsletter with no help from Apple or verizon, or these forims, or anyone else. To think that a company that I have stood behind and loved so much can't be be bothered fixing such a simple issue that has been going on now through  5 OS's (I am using Lion but I had the issue using leopard as well)  is a disgrace.

  • How can I make mail retry sending messages in the Outbox?

    Howdy all,
As the title says how can a force Mail to try to resend the messages in the outbox? I use my MacBook Pro in a number of different environments and when I am on one flakey access point in particular or when I have forgotten to open Safari to reauthorize recently on another network Mail will fail to contact the SMTP server. When this happens my message gets stuck in the outbox to be sent later. My problem is that I do not know how to get it out of there effectively.
Once I have fixed the transitive error in the network (or or the problem fixes itself) how do I get the messages out of the inbox? At this point I can send more messages with no problem and they will happily go out but those in the queue just sit there.
Now, I have tried a number of things like quitting and restarting Mail, bringing the various network interfaces back up and down, and other things to try to trick Mail into sending the queued messages but that has been haphazard at best. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious I am missing.
    Thanks for any help!

Highlight the message in the inbox, double-click on it, and click on the "send" icon
You may even consider BCCing yourself to see whether the message actually goes or not, and you just have an artifact copy stuck in your outbox that you could then just delete.
Otherwise, copy&paste the stuck message body into a new message, and delete the stuck one out of the outbox before attempting to send the new one

  • Mail: Cant Send Messages SMTP Error

When trying to send messages I get a SMTP connection error. I have found that the connection fails because the server name is incorrectly spelled. Mail seems to add my account name as an additional line in the server name. Example:
    [email protected]:macmail
When I go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Edit Server List, the server is spelled correctly without the additional (:macmail) added on. Connection Doctor fails because of this misspelling and I cant seem to be able to stop mail from changing the server name. Any suggestions? Im stumped. Thanks in advance

Typically, Road Runner is a cable connection, and as is the case with several cable providers of broadband, the SMTP does not require separate Authentication -- they actually authenticate on the basis of the IP address stored in the modem they provide. In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information click on the arrows beside the name of the Outgoing Server (as I think you have already mentioned finding), choose Edit Server List, and then choose the Advanced Tab. There you should check to use the Custom port, set to Port 25, and choose None as the method of Authentication. Remove any Username and Password entered there, and Save these settings. You should now be able to send with the RR SMTP. If you have a third party SMTP, then you may need different settings, so more info if that is the case.

  • Mail cant send messages

I am connected to my Gmail account and my hostgator.com webmail account. Gmail works fine for sending/receiving, but hostgator cant send messages. I am using the default SMTP ports, and have even tried port 26 and still no luck. I was able to send mail using this configuration for months and have had no problems at all until yesterday. I do not know what changed, as Entourage works just fine.

  • Mail "Cannot send message" but Thurnderbird can

Mail is giving an error message "Cannot send message using server" - on all my servers including dot mac..but Thunderbird can, with no probs...
This happpened a couple of months ago and reentering all the settings did not work so I used Thunderbird with no probs for a while..then I archived my emails in Mail and trashed all the accounts settings.
Mail worked just fine for a few weeks..then the same problem
    any ideas?

Mail worked fine on a wireless connection this morning
Who is the internet service provider associated with this wireless connection?
But now we are back to no sending (the message btw is
"cannot send message using this server") on the ethernet connection
Is the internet service provider for the ethernet connection different from the ISP associated with the wireless connection?
Which server port are you using for .Mac's authenticated SMTP server with Mail and with Thunderbird?
Are any of the other SMTP servers not provided by the ISP associated with the wireless connection or with the ethernet connection authenticated and if so or regardless, which server port are you using for the SMTP servers not provided by either ISP or if the same ISP with both connection with Mail and Thunderbird?

  • Workflow Mailer Delays Sending Messages

    Greetings,
We recently installed Workflow 2.6.3.5, and have noticed a very strange problem. The Workflow Mailer will propagate messages starting at 1 second, then 2 seconds, then 4 seconds, then 8 seconds, steadily increasing to 240 seconds. Then the messages will propagate for some time at 240 seconds. Then the sequencing resets back to one second, and increases to 240 seconds.
We've opened a TAR on metalink, but Oracle has been veryslow to respond. As a result of the delay in propagation we have almost 2000 messages in our WF_NOTIFICATION_OUT queue that need to be sent.
Has anyone seen this problem and can recommend a solution?
    Thanks for your help,
    Michelle Detommaso

    Hi,
Can you find any errors in the Workflow log file?
Please go through the steps in (Note: 753845.1 - How to Perform a Meaningful SMTP Telnet Test to Troubleshoot Java Mailer Issues) and see if it helps.

  • Mail Account sending message to itself

I have an account with RR and the sub account I set up is for my business. I set it up in mail on my iPhone and it shows up just fine. But when I send from the iPhone it sends a copy of the message to itself. Why is this? and is there a way to stop this? When I send from Mail app on computer it doesn't send a copy to itself. Just wondering what setting it is that allows this to happen...

  • Apple Mail trouble sending messages

I added my Slippery Rock University account to the apple mail server and all of my messages showed up, but when I try to send an email it says there is something wrong with the server and it will not send. How can I fix this?
All of the information I needed was right here: http://www.sru.edu/academics/iats/SupportServices/RSCHD/Documents/RockMailConfig .pdf
    Did I do something wrong?

    1)  In the Menu bar under Window select Connection Doctor.
Do you see red lights? If yes, most likely you need to enter your passwords.
If you see all green lights your connections are good.
You can also open the Activity window under Window to see the messages as they download.
    2) Create a Smart folder. Under Mailbox in the Menu bar select New Smart Mailbox.
Create a new folder to see messages recevied today (include the trash)
Do you see the messages now? If yes, we need to see where the messages are filed.
What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)

  • Mail keeps sending messages before I'm ready

My desktop Mac (Intel) keeps sending my messages before I'm done with my mesage

This smells like a permissions issue, and it cannot be fixed repairing permission with Disk Utility.
Well, I looked up the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded
files to see if they were being written to and saved
(updated). Basically, I was just checking the last
    saved dates on them.
And the result of looking at them was?
And there were only 3 POP folders
where these MessageUID files were in.
These files are what Mail uses to keep track of which files have already been downloaded. There should be either one or two of them in each POP account. What you're saying indicates clearly that there is a problem with these files.
Does the multiple downloads problem happen with all accounts or only with the one that lacks the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file? -- sorry if you already knew this, but just to be sure, to know which account a "POP-" folder is associated with, just look at the folder name. It's formed by appending the account username and the incoming mail server to the account type (POP).
In the Finder, select the account folder that lacks a MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file, and choose File > Get Info (⌘I). Under Ownership & Permissions, are you granted "Read & Write" access. Expand Details. Are you listed as the owner of this folder?
Note: There are several bugs in the Finder that make troubleshooting this kind of problems harder that it should be, and you may end up reading wrong information and/or incorrectly "fixing" non-existent problems if you play too much with it. If your problem ends up being a permissions issue, are you willing to troubleshoot it using the CLI in Terminal?
