Mail Archive Folder

Ok, about a week after installing Mavericks, Mail has decided to move ALL of my incoming mail into a special folder called "Archive". I am not sure if this folder existed before, but it is making Mail basically unusable for me. I have no rules set up in Mail or on any of my gmial accounts.
Help.

An update to Mail was released yesterday that may improve compatibility with Gmail.
Gmail is an intentionally broken implementation of IMAP that often causes problems with Mail. The problem seems to have gotten worse in Mavericks. My recommendation is either not to use Gmail at all, or to access it through the website. You may also get better results from another email client.

  • Outlook 2013 installed in English only- But Showing a Strange E-mail Archive Folder, in a Different Language

    Dear Outlook IT Professionals:
Has anyone experienced seeing a strange e-mail archive folder (in a different language, other than English), within an English only version Outlook 2013?
Basically, I found an e-mail archive folder, which is in another language, in my e-mail Inbox; that I did not create, and its properties seems to be hidden.  Therefore, I am unable to see the archive folder's attributes.  This Microsoft Outlook
was installed the English language only, but the language of the archive folder is either Japanese, or Chinese.
I have disabled RSS Feeds, even before seeing the strange archive folder, then I just verified that it is still disabled; so this cannot not be the culprit.
I don't want to automatically assume that this is a security issue, so any logical technical explanations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Security programs may cause such issue, please temporaily disable all your security programs to check the issue again.
In addition, we can start Outlook with /cleanviews switch in case it is caused by a corrupt view. To do this, exit Outlook, press Windows key + R, type
outlook.exe /cleanviews in the Run dialog and press Enter.
Also try /resetfoldernames switch to check the result. Use it with the same way above,
    outlook.exe /resetfoldernames.
    Hope it helps.

  • Mail Archive folder showing empty

I posted this question yesterday but didn't specify that the Archive folder I was referring to was in Mail.  I can't understand why the folder is showing as empty on both my iMac and MacBook Pro (Mavericks) whilst the same folder shows all its content on both my iPad and iPhone (IOS7).  I have tried Rebuild, but that doesn't work. Has anybody out there got any suggestions?  I would be so grateful.

Oh and any idea why some of my TRASH folders are shown as a trash can and the others as a circle?

  • Help with Mail Archive folder

I'm getting close to my iCloud limit and want to free up space by removing/archiving emails; but not sure excatly how the Archive folder works.
If I drag and drop (say) all of 2011's email into the Archive folder - does it remove them from the server, but still keeps them readable and searchable on my Mac?
I assume they won't be readable or searchable from my iPhone/iPad but I doubt I'll ever need to go back three years on my device.
Or is there a better/easier way to remove mails from the server but keep them on my Mac?
    Thanks!
    Andy

Yes, that might be a bit confusing. I have more than one iCloud account in use, hence I have more than one iCloud archive folder. However, these won't do the same thing as I described above, using these folders will just move mail from the inbox to an archive folder but it will still keep it in iCloud and therefore use up your space.

  • How do you drag and drop/move multiple emails from the inbox or mail archive folder to a file folder in your finder?

I would like to archive hundreds of my emails that currently exist in my apple mail email filing system by moving them into file folders in the finder. I can do this easily with a single email but it wont let me do it with multiple emails or a complete folder. Is there any way of do this easily?

Thanks very much for this. However, I understand how dragging and dropping files normally works. It just seems the it wont work when you do it with emails when you are transfering them into a normal finder system folder. If you highlight one file and drag it to a finder folder it works, but when you drag multiple, it just wont let you do it.
Is there any work around for this? Thank you once again for  your time.

  • How to open and display and mail archive folder?

We were running Novell and GW for a number of years. Recently, we have migrated to Microsoft and Outlook. We have a number of GW archive folders that I now want to access. I understood that I could retain an installation of GW on my PC and although no longer connected to the server, I should be able to browse and open the archive, to retrieve these emails
Have tried this, but they dont display. When I go to check mailbox size, it is seeing data as the it reads the same file size as the folder of archived email - so I think they are there somewhere!
    Any suggestions please??

  • Why can't I copy files from a Mail Archive folder ON MY MAC to another folder?

I created a folder ON MY MAC named Archive. Now I want to move all the email to another folder and all I get is an error message.
I am aware that it was a mistake to name the folder Archive, but that's in the past.
I have tried exporting, but not all the emails get exported.

Click on the drive, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it.

  • Why is my new mail going to an "Inbox" folder in the Archive folder?

I've discovered that my new mail is now longer going to the regular Inbox. It's now landing in a new "Inbox" folder in the Archive folder. Why? How can I reset this back to the regular new mail inbox?
I tried renaming the folder in the directory but mail still is defaulting there. I've check to make sure I don't have a filter to do this, no filter for this account.

Use C:\YourWebSite (where C: is your hard drive).

  • Why is new mail going to my archived folder?

Upgraded to 10.9.2 and now all mail is not being sent to my inbox, but to my archived folder. How do you fix this?

What email program are you using?

  • Incoming mail going to archive folder instead of inbox

after registering my macbook pro 2.4ghz core 2 duo running mavericks 10.9.1 for the app "messages", i've noticed emails addressed to my .mac account no longer go to my inbox on this computer, they land in the "archive" folder.
any idea what happened and how i can fix this?
    thanks in advance.

Your slow computer could be caused by a number of problems such as memory, hardware, or software issues. It isn't related to the problem you had with Mail.
First, I suggest you open Disk Utility and repair permissions on your boot volume. Then verify if the hard drive is OK, or does it show problems.
Restart the computer and see if you still have problems.
If so, I would just advise you to post a new discussion describing this problem so others with better knowledge could help you to figure out the problem.
Search google or these discussions on Slow Computer with Yosemite. There are many discussions on this already. You might also look into downloading EtreCheck and providing that information in your post. It will gather information from your computer to allow others to look and analyze what you have that could be causing issues.

  • How to avoid messages going automatically to the archive folder in Apple Mail?

Dear list members, I've been using Apple Mail (version 7.3 (1878.6)) on my MacBook Pro 13" (9,2) (MacOS 10.9.4) for years to integrate my GMail, university, and other e-mail accounts in the imap mode. Since some weeks, Mail is behaving odd: some messages are sent automatically to the archive folder. That's quite annoying, as I have to move them manually back to the inbox folder, and sometimes I mess some messages. I did not change any config in Apple Mail or my e-mails servers. Could you please help me solve this problem? Thanks.

The Archive folder in Apple Mail is linked to the All Mail "label" in Gmail. A label is treated like an IMAP folder, but it really isn't the same thing.
In case you weren't aware, Gmail saves every email you send or receive inside the All Mail label. In Gmail, you can tag a file with multiple labels. So, a file that comes into Gmail appears in two places at once, the Inbox and All Mail. When you trash a file, the Inbox label is removed, but it still remains in All Mail.
Previously, the All Mail label was hidden from you in Mail. Apple has been trying to make Mail work with Gmail, but that hasn't been going well.
I have never had a problem, but I have both Gmail and Apple Mail set up such that any email I trash actually gets deleted and not stored on the Gmail server. I also have it set to no display the All Mail folder at all.  This may not be a fix as others have similar setups, but have problems with Gmail.
This is how I set it up. I followed the original article, not the Part Deux article. However, you don't need to change the IMAP path prefixes or the label names in Gmail settings. I just have the part where I configured it to delete the emails when I trash them, and hid all the Labels I didn't care to see in IMAP.
Remember, this may not resolve your problems. I don't know of another "fix."

  • Cannot delete mail from Archive Folder

I am in the porcess of tryign Mail again, and i must admitt it is a bit of a challenge.
The following problem for example seems so simple but i cannot get it to work.
I have a very large Archive folder that was created i believe from the archive folder from the icloud mail.
I have decided to caopy the Archive folder that Mail created on a seperate hard drive, to increase available storage on my system disk.
Now i want to delete the messages in the Archive folder, but when i select all the messages and then select Delete the messages are cleared from the Archive folder and all seems fine, however within  minutes they are back in the Archive folder, what am i doing wrong?
    thx
    John

Well Kelley, that photo did not come with the system so it had to come from you or someone else putting in the Shared folder.
Choose the file and "get info" (command- i) turn the dislclosure triangle on "Ownership & Permissions" make sure you can "read & write" and make yourself the "owner"(open the lock and enter your admin password).
Then check under General, turn the disclosure triangle and be sure the "locked" box in NOT checked.
    Let us know.

  • Archive folder missing from Mail & search not working

I've been having trouble getting the Archive mailbox to appear in Mail. What's worse, often the search function is broken, and Mail doesn't turn up any search results. I've found some ways to get the Archive folder to reappear, but these only seem to help temporarily. For instance, clicking on the gear at the bottom left and selecting "Get Account Info" then selecting the Archive folder causes it to reappear, but this is only temporary and it disappears after another restart or sometimes after an hour or two. The search not working is the worst, as it sometimes is working and sometimes isn't. I don't have any idea what's causing this, but I am at my wit's end because I NEED Mail to be firing on all cylinders.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
What are your selections in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced for this Gmail account, if using IMAP, regarding keeping message for Offline use? The Mail search can only access the list of messages to search Subject, From, etc, but not the entire message unless copies of all messages are being kept on the computer. This would be true for any IMAP account, btw.
    More info, please.

  • How do I add a folder to my Archive folder in Mail?

On previous versions of Mail (on my Mac, NOT on my iPhone), I was able to move whole folders into Archive, but I can't seem to do that anymore.  When I move a folder over the Archive folder, nothing happens.
After looking around, it looks like I can only move single messages or groups of messages into the Archive folder, but that can't be right, can it?
I want to keep my archived emails sorted by the folders they exist in already... can someone please help me do that?

The only way you can now add additional folders to the 'Archive' folder/mailbox is to create the new folders using the specific mail application.
If you have Apple Mail pointing to a Gmail account, you will need to access Gmail web interface and create the folder there.  Likewise for Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, etc.
Not sure if this will work for Apple Cloud mail accounts.
I have a @sky.com account and accessed the Sky webmail interface, created the new folders (Archive/*****) and reopned Apple Mail and there they were under the Archive folder :-)

  • Get "archive" folder to appear as icon in mail

    Hey everyone,
this is certianly not a pressing issue at all. I like to have my email very organized with folders and whatnot. I was wondering if anyone had run into the problem with the "archive" folder appearing as a folder in mail, but the archive box icon in the web browser?
I was wondering if there is a way to change this, so they both are icons. thanks so much in advance!
PS: I've attached a screen-shot with the side bars, side-by-side.
Here's a link to the image. The uploader is not working on my end I guess. /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/165/16581333-1.png

This depends upon who is providing the mail service and how it is done.
