Mail As Text Pad

Is there a way now to write personally important notes and save them without giving much though to the work flow of the Save process? Without numerous clicks to re-familiarize the 'new' user-interface styles and gimmicks? Without required looks and styles of the current Mail application/ Note?
Mail in 10.4 OSX allowed used to write 'notes' using New Message-- Also allowing user to easily change format to plain text and purge all the geeky stuff. Also to Save, all in 2 steps-- No danger of accidentally sending the message to some unintended person-- No danger of using Save, later to discover the important text was in fact not to be found. The 10.6 Mail looses saved New Messages-- which are not sent, which bear no addressee. They vanish, too bad for the unwary.
Mail has offered the yellow notes in 10.5 and 10.6 OSX. However these seem to allow only complex formatting. If text is quoted from a web page, the font style, hot links and who knows what are all presently mandatory-- Even if the user was simply wanting to re-edit one's own previous writing, (in plain text). Getting plain text requires: Copy text, New Message, change to plain text format, recopy, switch back to Note or where ever else, Paste plain text. (In order to exclude excess geeky baggage).
[Is there a better, simple but powerful text software for 'personalized notes' with easier work flows? Referring to the Notes application-- Again, reformatting is multi step-- Plain Text in one step is not allowed. Too bad that Mail has caved in to mandatory, latest, geeky, stylizations, with major OS upgrades. Instead of keeping personalization of the user-interface. Is there no longer a 'sanctity' of personal preference in new computers? Are we doomed to a future of impersonalized, cloned styling in our own, personal works? (Will we ultimately stop buying new computers for this reason? Perhaps dig up 10.4 OS X disc and use that in future?)]
Thanks for any insights offered.-- Bo Atkinson

like the html added to my message-- Where did that come from??? I wonder. Oh well.

    we are using oracle 9iHere's a basic example for you...
    AS SYS:
    create or replace directory TEST_DIR as 'c:\test_dir'; -- This creates an oracle directory object.  The actual operating system directory must be created manually
    grant read,write on directory test_dir to my_user;  -- Grant permission to use that directory object to the required user(s)AS my_user:
    declare
      cursor cur_emp is
        select ename, deptno
        from emp;
      v_fh UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;  -- This is a file handle
    begin
      v_fh := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('TEST_DIR', 'file.txt', 'w', 32767);  -- Open the file for writing and obtain a handle to it
      FOR i IN cur_emp -- process the query in a loop
      LOOP
        UTL_FILE.FPUT_LINE(v_fh, i.ename||','||to_char(i.deptno,'fm099')); -- write out lines of text to the file
      END LOOP;
      UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(v_fh); -- Close the file (also flushes any unwritten buffered data).
    end;

  • How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?

    How can I disable e-mail and text messages when I'm close to or over my data quota ?
    Is this possible? I don't see any options?
    All I see is this:
      Receive confirmations of many account transactions via Email and/or free Text Alerts delivered right to your cell phone. You can receive these confirmations for
       transactions done online, over the phone or from your handset. Account management Text Alerts do not count against any Messaging allowances.
          Your bill is ready for review.
         Payment Confirmations: Your payment has been  received    Your credit/adjustment     has been applied.1
         Account Activity Confirmations     Plan changes     Feature changes1

    What phone?
    You would need to disable data on the phone itself.  You wouldn't do it online on your account.
    Note also that text messages do not count toward your data allowance.

  • Where to get a good text pad

    HI all,
    Actually am facing a big problem in writing java code, and the reason is that i dont have a text pad, becoz of that am not able to put my 100 percent of my effort on writing of code, half of the time goes in alignement only. SO please let me know which textpad is good and where can i find the same.wating for u peoples reply.
    thanks in advance

    notepad is sufficient, and aligning is easy if you just use tab.
    Here's an example:
    class myClass {
         // this a tab for myClass' bracket
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              // this is two tabs to align it with the main method bracket
         /* if you use a double space instead of tab, it can take a while
         to make good alignment, so just use tab! */
    }As that code shows you, aligning with simple editors like notepad is simple with tab... no need for complex stuff.

  • Mail saving text attachments with DOS line endings

    dear all,
    i just noticed that Mail saves text attachments with DOS line endings (CR+LF), even if the original contains UNIX line endings (LF). how can i disable this behaviour?

    Using Automator, one can make a Desktop application that simulates dos2unix.
    The Automator application shown here, will prompt the user to choose one or multiple (using command key) text files, and will then use Perl to process each file in-place, replacing the carriage return-line feed pairs with just a line feed. I tested this on a folder of text files where each file had more than 1 CRLF pair. Afterwards, there were only LF. The last thing this application does is slide out an OS X notification with processing status and number of files affected. I borrowed, and adapted the Perl block from Stack Overflow.

    How can I delete e-mail addresses I-Pad 2..I am on AOL Thanks Lannie67

    For the addresses that pop up when you start a new email. Tap the first letter. A window opens up, tap the blue i in a circle following the address. A new window opens up, scroll down to remove from recents.
    When you say old obsolete addresses do you mean from contacts .

    if you go to pimpmypre.com, you can change the ringtone for your text/email.  unfortunately, you cannot change them individually for text and email, but it expands your options from the pre default ringtone.
    it's a small step, but not the solution.

  • Language preference won't revert back on e-mails and texts

    I changed my language preference to French under settings/general/language&region, to test a French app and later reverted back to English. This somehow has affected my e-mails and texts and now my e-mails and texts language (spell check) is french. I've verified the language setting and it is English . . .Apple support wants to charge me $35.00 for the priviledge of telling them they have defects in their product.
    Any help here would be appreciated.

    spellcheck is determined by the keyboard setting (not language).  Tap the globe key and switch to English.  Or go to settings/general/keyboard/keyboards and delete the French keyboard which was probably added when you played with the French language preference.

  • Problem downloading text pad

    Kind of an odd question...I need to get textpad and all semester I have not needed it because I just use the one at our campus computer lab but it is closed today so this is what I did...I downloaded the latest text pad and then went to java.sun.com to get the compiler for it and under the java manager thing it said it downloaded correctly but it still does not show the compiler under tools in text pad...I am on a windows xp platform...can someone tell me if I am missing a step or did something wrong.... Java SE Development Kit 6 Update 5 is what I downloaded

    can someone tell me if I am missing a step or did something wrongI'm pretty sure you have to configure the tools in TextPad. Basically you poke about the menus and find the option that lets you set the location of java.exe and javac.exe.
    Edited by: pbrockway2 on Mar 24, 2008 1:53 PM
    I've just checked and, at least with 4.5, TextPad just uses the commands "java" and "javac".
    That means that you have to have these executables on your PATH. You can tell if you have a problem with the PATH, by entering the command:
        >javacat the command line. If you get the message "'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" then Windows can't find the Java executables. TextPad will have the same problem. A solution is described in the documentation:
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jdk/install-windows.html#Environment]

  • Mail and Touch Pad problems

    Didn't know where to put this so I put in Leopard and Mail...
    I'm using a MacBook Air running 10.5.3 and a friend of mine is using a Powerbook 1.5 GH running 10.4.latest. The mbAir track pad is set up as: Tap to Click, Dragging, Two Finger > Secondary Click, Scroll (Pinch open & close Rotate), Screen Zoom, 3 fingers > Swipe to Navigate. The powerbook is very similar but since it doesn't have the iPhone type touch pad like the Air, it's not quite the same set up.
    We were talking the other day and realized that we are having the same problem: whenever we are in Mac's Mail program and we are typing, all of a sudden we find ourselves on another line somewhere in the text that we have just written. Some of the text that was just type may have also been deleted. We both find that we can't figure out how it is happening.
    The only thing I know is she (with the Powerbook) didn't have this problem until I turned on some of the other features of the touch pad, such as Tap to Click and Secondary Click, etc..
    Has anyone had this happen to them?
    Does anyone have any idea what is happening?
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Yes, I am having this problem. Here's more detail:
    In Mail:
    I can type into Mail's To: (or CC: or BCC:) field one address that is in the address book; the auto-complete works, and when I press Return or comma to auto-complete and start entering another recipient, everything I type thereafter is cumulatively reproduced. It looks like this, for example:
    (Babbette Duck)MMaMarMarkMarkSMarkScMarkScuMarkScupMarkScuppMarkScuppeMarkScupper (...etc.)
    The name above in parens ( ) represents the successfully entered e-mail address. Everything after it is what happens (I selected and pasted it right from Mail) when I then try to type another name. As I type letters, something takes each letter I type, repeats it and every subsequent letter I've typed, and adds the new letter I type. Every character key, plus Delete, Return, and Shift, and the arrow keys, results in the reentering of the previous typing as illustrated above. Only the modifier keys Control, Option, and Command, the F keys, and the sound volume keys, are unaffected (and modifier+character combinations).
    Trying to edit a name in Address Book (which I hadn't done before reading your post) results in the same phenomenon.
    Then there's a weird thing: If I then select all the text in the To: field, using either mouse or Command-A, and delete using the 2nd-row Delete key, everything is deleted BUT then the name I was trying to type in appears, correctly typed. So somehow it is registering correctly, but it's as if the system is, after one entry in the To: field or any typing into an Address edit field, using any subsequent keys as select/copy/paste of everything that is typed before it.
    And Console is now showing anything at all, let alone an error.
