Mail attached jpg show embedded instead of just attachment

How can I email a jpeg attachment without it showing up as an embedded picture. I just want to send the attachment so that others (PC) can save.

Use the "attach" button to add the picture, then right-click or control-click the picture, and choose "View as icon".
If you want to be extra-sure, go to the "Format" menu and choose "Make Plain Text" (if your only option is "Make Rich Text" then you're already sending a plain text message). But you lose text formatting too if you do this.
But keep in mind that mostly changes your view of the email message. What other people see when they get their message depends on what software they are using to read their email. Some software just displays image attachments, no matter what you do when attaching them.
Also, they can always download the images, even if they are displayed as embedded. Again, it doesn't matter much what you do, it's more an issue of  what software the other person is using to read their messages.

The History menu can only show that fixed maximum of 15 as that is hard coded.
    Maybe this extension helps:

  • In mail, why does entire email address show up instead of just person's name

When I address most emails (to persons who are in my contacts), only their names show up in the "To:" window. But with certain people, their name plus their <full email address> all show up in the window.
I've tried re-entering their names in my contacts. I've tried deleting these names-with-full-email-addresses from the Previous Recipients list. No matter what I do, their name fills in as "First Name Last Name <full email address>" in the "To:" window. I also mail to other clients at the same company and their names just show up as names only -- normal.
Any idea why this is happening, and how I can make it stop?

It's fixed. Not sure why. Maybe one of the things I tried just needed time to take effect. Suddenly, it's working.

Open Terminal in Utilties and copy/paste
This will send the attachment embedded inline. (This works in Snow Leopard, but not sure about Lion. Do a test first. If it doesn't work, just google "send attachment embedded + Lion." You don't actually have to send the message to see how it will appear.)
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 0
To reverse the setting, change the 0 to a 1
However, whether this will work or not will depend on what the e-mail client on the receiver's end does with it.

  • E mail attachments showing entire text instead of just an icon

can some tell me where to find the settings to keep the attachments in an email as just the icon not the entire text showing in the body
example - when I attach a PDF article to an email the entire text shows in the body instead of just the icon - HELP
    THANKS

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
This cannot be changed, except to temporarily View as Icon while composing, and that will have no impact on how the recipient sees the attachment (which is a true attachment even though View in Place is used). To learn how Mail treats single page PDF vs multi-page PDF, read:

Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
Next, close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • When I send an email message, my Mail shows two messages outgoing instead of just the one I am sending.  What is going on?

When I send an email message, my Mail shows two messages outgoing instead of just one.
What is going on?  Is it possible some "spyware" has crept in?

There is an email address on my website that automatically forwards to my "regular" email address, but this problem predates setting up that website.  My primary email is a bellsouth account (AT&T) which switched to a Yahoo mail-supported service....so based on your comments, perhaps that is why the activity is looking weird.

  • OT - Attack of the As? Mail is showing As instead of E-mail content?

    Hi all:
In the past few days, most of the e-mails I am receiving are showing up as full of little As, some inside boxes, some just lines of As. It seems that they are mostly showing up instead of signatures, graphics, etc. Very strange. I use Mail and I can send and receive my own e-mails with graphics attached and they show up fine. I mailed myself an e-mail with a graphic attached to test it and the result was perfect.
Tried deleting Mail prefs (com.apple.mail.plist) but unfortunately that is where Apple also keeps your mailboxes so I couldn't delete the .plist.
Has anyone experienced this weirdness and if so, how did you fix it? It is really obnoxious not being able to see half of the content of your e-mails. Some logos show up but most seem to be getting turned into As as well as a lot of content. This just started a few days ago, I have not updated software or anything new lately since this began.
Anyone have any advice on how to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Dan Brockett

It sounds as though you have corrupted fonts.
What I would suggest is a safe boot, pram reset and a general repair of permissions.
Not necessarily in that order. Try changing the font that mail uses in mail preferences. You should be able to identify which font is causing the problem.

  • Mail not showing embedded images

This problem has been bugging me for a while.
I am getting some emails (from my company communications) that are incorrectly formatted by Mail. I see big boxes labeled "Missing Plug-in". The rest of the text is there, but those big boxes make the mail hard to read.
So today I decided to look a bit deeper into the problem. I brought it down to the presence of image tags that call for embedded images (included as attachments) using the "cid:" protocol. For example:
    <img src="cid:[email protected]" alt="Find" border="0">
Is this a restriction in mail (I am running mail 6.1 on Mountain Lion). Or is there some config parameter I need to tweek to enable support for embedded images ?
Thunderbird has no problem. I also did a quick check with Google Mail and Yahoo Mail, and neither show the images. But they just show nothing, so the resulting email is still readable. Mac OSX Mail shows big boxes with the "Missing Plug-in" note. I would be happy if Mail just ignored the images.
I should point out that mail on iPhone and iPad work fine (they display the images).
    Albert

Try this - worked for me...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20652845#20652845
If that doesn't link properly, here's the original solution, cut and pasted:
    "MailPluginFix"
    From the Code2K:Labs site: http://code2k.net/products/mailpluginfix/
    From MacUpdate: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37804/mailpluginfix
Just download the fix and double-click it - next time you open mail, you'll see your attachments.

  • I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail is not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail are not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice. Yesterday, the signatures were stacking instead of switching to the one I wanted to choose.

I had this and fixed it.
I had upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures in Mail were fine. But then about a week later, I got a new computer and used Migration Assistant to copy my stuff to the new machine. Upon opening Mail, I had all the correct Signature information in the Preferences>Signatures window, but nothing worked.
After lots of hunting, I found the Signature Folder. It's in:
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
Looking at my previous setup (which works) I saw in that folder two types of files: .webarchive and .siganture
Looking in my new machine's Signature folder, I saw only the .webarchive folders, not the .signature folders
Since this was literally a clone of my previous setup to a new machine, here's what I did:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. In Problem machine, go to
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
    3. Move the Signatures folder someplace safe, but out of the MailData folder
    4. Get the Signatures Folder from the working install (like a backup) and copy it to the MailData folder on the problematic machine
    5. Start Mail on the problem machine
This worked for me. I don't know why Migration Assistant didn't copy the full signature folder, but this fixed it. It worked perfectly partly because I had just backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner and the very next day set up the new machine. I don't know where Lion or earlier versions of mail stored signatures, but the absence of the .signature filetype seems to be the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Imail wont show mail attachment

From time to time imail doesn't show attachments that come with an e-mail. In order to better explain it. I use IMAP mail. When I recieve the mail, I can see the small attachment picture but there is no attachment file with in the mail. In order to make sure, I log into my imap server with a web browser. I open the same e-mail and the attachment is there. Imail wont show or download the mail attachment. Is there any solution to this problem?

Well, I fixed it. Luckily I just have my .Mac IMAP email account with aliases so I just deleted my ~/Library/Mail, ~Library/Mail Downloads and ~/Library/Preferences/Mail Prefs and on the next launch of Mail it grabbed all my mail from the .Mac server. I had to recreate my rules but I have my RSS feeds back once again. I hope the updates to Mail in 10.5.3 address this issue as it has happened on two machines for me now.

  • Mail won't show or recognize an attachment

I sporadically experience a situation in Mail.app with my Exchange Mailbox where a received email will not recognize that there is an attachment to the email. When this happens, sometimes the mail list view shows the paperclip icon, sometimes it doesn't.
If I go to View - Message - Raw Source, I can see that there is an attachment. But the individual email doesn't recognize that there is an attachment. Sometimes, the next day or so, it will show up. But usually I have to go use another email client to get to the attachment.
Here's the Content-Type header from the raw source:
    ------=_NextPart_00101C807A9.193D4F58
    Content-Type: application/msword;
    name="somefilename.doc"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Description: somefilename.doc
    Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename="somefilename.doc"
I've also noticed that it mostly happens with MS Word documents. I can't remember if I've experienced it with other document types.
I've also tested moving the email to a local folder, and it attachment still doesn't show up.
    Thanks in advance,
    csytsma

    Hi csytsma,
Just chiming in and bumping this thread as I'm experiencing a similar problem whereby Gmail messages with attachments do not show up in Mail.app.
    I receive the message:
"This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program.
    multipart/mixed"
I'd love to find a solution for this.
    TIA.
    Anthony.

  • I just bought RAR Extractor, but it doesn't work in my ipad. E-mail attached photographs can not be opened in "open-in"

I just bought RAR Extractor, but it doesn't work in my ipad. E-mail attached photographs came in .rar format. I checked Apples Store and found RAR Extractor. I bought, installed, erased, reinstalled again but I still can not see the photos. They seem to be existing in "open-in" folder. When I tap, it goes back to "Home" screen.

Have you contacted the developer? They would be the best people to help with their product.

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.
