Mail attachments and forwarding as attachments

Since upgrading to Yosimite 10.10.1 Mail will not work with attachments saying that it cannot find the downloads folder.  If you forward as an attachment the icon is not in mail format or recognised.

Hi Chateaubugs
Open Mail.app, make sure you see the Message Viewer window.
Click on the menu Edit > Attachments and enable
- Always send windows-friendly attachments
- Always insert attachment at the end of the message.
Outlook is not good at showing embedded media content from Mail.app. It likes to have them, where it's expecting them - at the end of a message.
A hint: Make sure you have at least a part of your message (for example your signature) typed before you attach a file to a message. This is because of a small issue when attaching mails at the end of a message: If you have nothing typed, there is no end to attach to. It will fail.

  • Mail reply and forwarding not working

After using Mail for three years, suddenly the reply and forwarding functions do not work. The replies and forwards are in the Sent mail but do not reach the recipients.
I spoke to Mac support about 10 days ago and we created a new acct. and imported the emails. Things worked for awhile, but the same problem has started again.
When I use my Comcast web mail the replies and forwards do work.
    No trouble receiving mail.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail Rules and Forwarding

I use Mail on my iMac to receive mail from a number of accounts - POP3. On one account I have a Rule set up which forwards received mail to a web mail account. The account Inbox in Mail shows the incoming message and it can be opened. It then shows an arrow next to the message. Clicking on this does not state that the message has been forwarded. Instead it gives an error message "Mail was unable to find your response ....." Why is this and can it be fixed?

It looks as though I have maybe solved the problem.  I just kept forwarding each one to aol_phish abuse, one after the other.  It took about an hour a day just to do this.  For four days.  I was half expecting to be reprimanded by aol.  I was not.  And this morning I got up and instead of 16 or so, there were three.  That was hours ago and no more have appeared.

  • Mountain Lion Mail Reply and Forward icons

I've recently had to reinstall ML to fix mail problems.  Thankfully all seems back to normal EXCEPT that messages in the column don't show either the reply or forward arrows.  The blue unread dot is working but I don't have the colums at the top of the messages column.
    What have I missed?

left to right in the "new" view of mail you have a mailbox column, a messages column and the selected message content.
In the second column I have the option of arranging the messages by date, flag etc but no indication of whether they have been forwarded or replied to.
    It's not a toolbar issue.

  • Attachments in reply and forwards

i am using pop account (non .mac)
when i forward a message, the attachments doesnt appear any more in the forwarded msg (whether a mobie, pic or a file).
    how can i change that?

As strange as it may sound, this behavior started for me after upgrading to Safari 3 beta. I downgraded back to Safari 2 and the problem went away. I don't know what Safari has to do with Mail attachments, but this seems to be the fix.
To downgrade back to Safari 2, download the Safari 3 Beta from the Apple Download site, then double click on the uninstall program. Safari will automatically revert to Safari 2.

  • Cannot send any attachments in an email, i am able to send and forward.but cannot attach. it tells me silverlight has crashed

cannot send any attachments in an email, I am able to send and forward. but cannot attach. It tells me that silverlight has crashed

Edit the outgoing mail server setting to be the same for both.
Your outgoing mail server is dependent on your internet access provider (the one giving you the juice to the internet). Many block outgoing mail servers that do not belong to them, unless you specify password authentication, and port of the outgoing mail server. The port of many outgoing mail servers is either 2662, or 587, or 2626. Try each and see which one works with password authentication. Note the password you would use is the same for checking mail at that server.

  • Mail rule not forwarding attachments

Using Mail rules to forward email to another account, the attachments are not forwarded with the original email message.  With a manual forwarding action, the original message is forwarded with the attachments.  Thoughts?

I have the same problem in MacOS 10.7.5, and it is a heavy problem, cause in fact Apple prevents us from professional work.May be we should chenge to Microsoft Exchange. I didn't have this problem in former versions, the forwarding WITH attachements worked fine.
The solution with the redirecting is only a emergency workaround, because it doesn't permit a professional handling of messages.
This Bug is strange, because forwarding the same message manually (choosing "forward" from the menu), the problem doesn't exist!!!!
As an "Only Mac User" since 1988 I'm very disappointed about the fact, that Apple doesn't take serious the problems of their users caused by BUGS.

  • My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments anymore

Does anyone know why this would be happening?
My mac mail will not search mail anymore and doesn't load attachments most of the time.  When I enter some text in the search box no results come up and I know there are messages that contain the phrase that I've entered.
Also about 3 weeks ago attachments only get loaded about 1/4 of the way - if that.  So I have to log onto my web based mail program from the host and retrieve attachements or check the messgae with my iphone.
Please - does anyone know how to fix this?

I figureed out that spotlight was turned off via terminal -  I shut it off to unmount a disk (which didn't work anyways)
    sudo mdutil -a -i on
that's the termianl command to turn spotlight back on.  As far as my attachments not fully loading in mac mail on my iMac that still baffles me.

  • When I forward or reply to the email from Mail, the receiver gets it as multiple attachments with no content in the mail., When I forward or reply to the email from Mail, the receiver gets it as multiple attachments with no content in the mail.

When I forward or reply to the email from Mail, the receiver gets it as multiple attachments with no content in the mail., When I forward or reply to the email from Mail, the receiver gets it as multiple attachments with no content in the mail.

That's probably because the message is in HTML format. Send the reply as plain text.

    Hi,
What type of account did you setup in Outlook? Exchange, IMAP or POP3?
Please go to the Webmail site, check if the attachments are still ok.
Kindly create a new profile to setup the account again, check if the attachments are alright:

I have installed flash player version 17.0.0.134 for mac and now I cant open any e-mail attachments. I have been through the checks and it is installed correctly. Can anyone help? panda

I don't know how this works on a Mac; on Windows you need the Flash Player Projector (not the plugin) to view stand-alone SWF files: https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

I cannot open mail attachments on my iPhone 4S.  I have reset 3 times and actually lost Bluetooth once, but at least that's back on now.

Try to set it up as new device, explained here:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
First without using the backup, in case it contains corrupt data.
If it works after that, use the backup to restore from.

Suddenly my imac will not open e-mail attachments.  It scans for viruses.  When I hit "continue", nothing happens.

The problem most likely is the antivirus application. My recommendation would be following the developers instructions, uninstall the application. Most antivirus applications tend to create more problems than they solve. The best thing you can do for your system is to run Software Update frequently and let Apple's security handle any issues. I'd also strongly recommend you carefully read Thomas Reed's Mac Malware Guide.

  • Restoring mail messages and attachments from Library Mail folder

Can someone please tell me the best way to do the following...
I have recently performed an erase and install of Snow Leopard.
I need to restore my old mail and I have the following data...
A copy of the "Mail" folder from the "Library" folder, up-to-date as of yesterday (19/9/09). I omitted to take a copy of the "Mail Downloads" folder which I believe contains the attachments for the messages.
An older copy of the "Mail Downloads" folder, up-to-date as of 31/5/09.
I was advised by one person at Apple Care that the Mail Folder was all I needed to back-up all my mail. Then the next advisor told me I should have taken a copy of the Mail Downloads folder as well. Another advisor suggested I exported all the mailboxes manually one by one which I now wish I had done.
In any case, I am where I am and I would like to know what to do with the data I have to be able to access my past mail messages.

    Robert,
If you were to need to do this again, all you need is to restore the Mail folder and the com.apple.mail.plist file (Home/Library/Preferences). If you restore those -- replacing any that might get created, but would not if you don't first launch Mail -- then Import is not necessary and it picks up where it left off.
The Mail Downloads folder is not needed -- its contents are redundant to what is kept with the messages.

  • Mail - Attachments and Outbox

    On opening mail the software occasionally creates the Outbox and randomly places a message, (usually one that I have received or one from an RSS feed), in the Outbox even though there were no messages waiting or drafts when I last closed Mail. In addition when creating a message with an attachment the following message displays when I check the attachment contents with Word, Quick Look etc. before sending;
Mail was unable to save the attachment “Invoice 51.doc” to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable".
The Mail Downloads folder in user/library is writable.
    Any ideas how to solve?

    Phil,
Good to have posted in the better forum for your questions.
I am not sure I have seen anything like the report about the Outbox -- it does not get created, but rather only displays when something is in it that has not been sent. For that, I would try quitting Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and delete the Outbox.mbox folder. Mail will create a new one when you next relaunch Mail, and then send a message. If there is something corrupt about the existing one, that would correct.
