Mail Attachments Getting Lost

Using os x 10.8 mail...
My attachments are not showing up in the Sent mail folder.
If there are images in the middle of email text, the recipient does not see the images in the middle of the text, but does get the attachments.
How do I fix this ?

Marcus,
Sorry I did not pick that up in the first post
I will need to do some research to see if that IMAP provider is cited anywhere as incompatible with some versions of Mail. I have seen cases where that happens.

  • Attachments getting lost on Mac Mail, but not on iPad/iPhone

We use several Mac computers, iPhones and iPads in our business, with GoDaddy as our email server. Emails with attachments work fine on the iPhones and iPads, but we are now losing the attachments on the Mac computers. This has recently happened. Any ideas? Is this a software update issue? I am running the OS X 10.8.3 version.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Searching iCloud mail issue-attachments get lost

When using the browser based icloud mail, I search for an email that's in my inbox somewhere.  It will find the most recent mail in that conversation and show previous emails in that conversation in the body of that message.  It won't however contain any attachments sent with those previous linked messages, just the attachment name. Nor will the search bring up the orginal email that did contain the attachment. However if I manually scroll through my inbox though I can find the previous emails with the attachments, it just doesn't show in the search. Any ideas

A related issue, more serious in a way-I've had 6 emails from a contact today & some yesterday, none of which show up in a search when using his name, the latest to show up being emails he sent me on Dec 30 2012.  Am I missing something with the search feature? Thanks

  • TB can't see messages in a folder -and/or attachments get lost

I solved this awkwardly (but only for seeing the mail body- not for retrieving attachments)
, but it may help others.
i have messages in inbox with wdseml type.
i have re-indexed after deleting global-messages sqlite, and they still can't be found.
    I also re-installed (31) and re-indexed today.
Originally i noticed the problem when i was searching and when i clicked on a message to view it the content was missing even though the subject was found.
Then i noticed that all messages from June 6 to Sept 15 had the problem for 1 inbox. All i can recall that might be relevant is that i may have compacted the db about then, or moved messages from one folder to another or both.
Following on another tip, i tried to repair the file under tools. Then all of those messages (550) in the date range disappeared from the search facility as well.
    Ok, my solution.
Deep in Appdata for your user id under Roaming..Thunderbird..Profiles..Mail you will find your Inbox or whatever it is that TB can't see.
    These in later releases have type *.wdseml;
On the top right of your TB there is a pull down one of which is Tools and therein you find Import/Export
(come to think of it, i think it is an add-in i found and installed some time back, sorry can't remember)
The tool offers you the ability to import files of type *.eml, but not *.wdseml
You have to copy those files to a new folder with a name like C:/recoverMail.
Then open a cmd.exe as administrator and rename *.wdseml to *.eml
then you can use the Import tool to get back visibility to your emails.
    good luck

ok, I suggest you take an email message that contains attachments. Press Ctrl +U in thunderbird and you will see the message source. In a series os MIME documents in that text will be your attachments.
People almost universally assume they are sending files as attachments. The reality is a sleight of hand. EMail at it's inception was a text medium, and at it's heart it still is. That PDF file your attaching has to be converted to text before it can be a part of an email. This is called mime encoding and luckily is covered by an internet standard so most stuff is universal between mail clients. The result is your 500Kb file is converted to mime and in the process grows about 30-40% So when you ask questions like where are attachments stored, the answer is "in the body of the message"
The message view you get when you press Ctrl+U is not only the exact source of the message as transmitted over the internet it is an exact representation of the message if it was saved as an EML file.
Thunderbirds mbox files are simply a load of EML files stacked one after the other with a blank line at the end and a from line to start them. When Thunderbird is closed you can open them in a text editor and again see your mail in it's raw text representation.
So when you say the attachments were there, and then they were not, your saying that fundamentally the mime encoded text of a message has changed. Thunderbird does not go through some fancy editing process when you drag a message from one folder to another, it just copies a block of text to a new location, deletes it in the old location and pretends it moved something. If you said the message disappeared I would be all over it as a possible bug. Parts of it disappearing I simply don't understand as Thunderbird sees a message not some part of the message. Programs that go out of their way to see parts of a message even when stores as a mime encoded text file are anti virus programs, what programs are proud of the fact they insert themselves into every disk read and write. Again anti virus programs.
The following is a standard text used for diagnosing Thunderbird issues. Many challenge the validity, but using both Thunderbird's and the operating systems safe modes are the only ways to get rid of the all pervasive security software that is so often the cause of issues.
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Mountain Lion mails with attachments on exchange get lost

    Dear Community,
we encounter a real annoying and weird issue with CS6 on our Macintoshs using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
It all started, that mails with attachments (e.g. JPGS, PDFS...) just get lost and do not arrive. Not all mails but some, spontaneously. But always the same files were affected. Some work, some not.
Our company is using Exchange, and there is no message back to the sender, that the mail did not arrive. You can even see it on sent items and it occurs in Outlook 2011 as well as Apple Mail. I contacted our IT and they checked the Exchange logs and everything is fine, like the mail would have arrived, bit it does not.
We went crazy and tried almost everything, clean OS installs, new users... the funny thing: when you forward the mail out of "sent items" it arrives...
Today a milestone appeared while troubleshooting this issue: We realized, that only files saved from Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator (basically CS6) are affected. When I save a PSD as a JPEG out of Photoshop and mail it as an attachement it gets lost. Always. Same for PDFs or other file formats out of CS6.. When I open a PSD  on embedded Mac Viewer and export as JPEG or PDF it does arrive the sender. So it only happens when saving the files out of CS6.
So now, I have no clue how to proceed. Is anybody else having this issue or can help us? It is a mess, because it turns our daily work to a horror.
Any help is appreciated solving this weird issue. Thank you so much.

    Hi ,
You can try setting the below value to false and see the results too since its exceeding the recipient thread limit could be a problem with the throttling as well.
    <add key="MailboxDeliveryThrottlingEnabled" value="False" />
Restart the transport services after the change and see the results.
     Good Luck :)

    Hello, thanks for the try,
tried the change in edgetransport.exe.config. Restartet the 4 transport services (Transportdelivery, transportsubmission, transport and transport logsearch) No change though. Problem still exists. May this go into msexchangethrotteling.exe.config?
    Regards

  • In Elements 11 how do I get the verification code needed to send files as e-mail attachments ?

In Elements 11 how do I get the verification code to send files as e-mail attachments ?

I’ve found it usually works best with web mail via Adobe after obtaining verification. I know some email services block bulk email completely and I’ve only tested it with Gmail which works fine. Should also work with other web mail e.g. Yahoo and Hotmail. Give it a try. Before you start it will help to check your internet security settings. If they are set to High, reduce the settings to Medium temporarily. Then follow these instructions.
    1. Log in to your mail provider on the web and add the following email to your address/contacts book.
    [email protected]
    2. Open Organizer and on the menu click:
    Edit >> Preferences >> Sharing
    3. Choose Adobe Email Service from the client dropdown menu.
    4. Add your name and email address to the fields provided and click OK
    5. Test the system (first use only)  by selecting a photo in organizer and choosing Share >> Photo Mail then click Next (Mac users should use attachments)
    6. Choose a contact then click  Next
    7. Click Next Step, then click Next - the sender verification dialog will open.
    8. Check you have spelt your email address correctly and hit the Resend E-Mail button.
    9. Go to your inbox (also check spam) and when the Adobe mailer message is received copy (Ctrl+C) the long verification code.
    10. Return to the verification dialog and paste it (Ctrl+V) into the Sender verification field and click OK. Wait for validation confirmation then click OK to continue

  • Incoming mail attachments are getting corrupted.

I have a MacBook Pro that I just bought about a week ago. Most current OS and everything is up to date. Using the default mail client, all incoming attachments are somehow corrupted. PDFs throw an error saying the document appears to be empty. Word documents open, but actually are empty. When I grab the mail attachments via the web client (GMail), they are fine. They also work fine on Thunderbird on my Windows netbook. Any ideas?

This support area is really for the MacBook Pro hardware.  I would suggest you go to the Mail.app discussion where there are really good experts on your issues.  I'm sure you'll get a fast answer there.  Also, you might want to do a search of the communities for your problem.  I see lots of hits for corrupted attachments, but since I don't know your exact problem, I can't tell you which has the best answer.

  • Lost sound on mail attachments

I lost sound for mail attachments when I installed Mountain Lion.  Have sound for everything else.  Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean about sound for an attachment in Mail. However, the sounds in mail are controlled through Mail > Preferences in the menu bar up top. Under the General tab you can control the sounds:

  • I cannot open mail attachments on my iPhone 4S.  I have reset it 3 times and lost Bluetooth once, but at least it's back on.

I cannot open mail attachments on my iPhone 4S.  I have reset 3 times and actually lost Bluetooth once, but at least that's back on now.

Try to set it up as new device, explained here:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
First without using the backup, in case it contains corrupt data.
If it works after that, use the backup to restore from.

    Hi Charlotte,
You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.
Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5
HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
    IE8 doesn't support HTML5.
To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.
The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please.

  • Sent mail gets lost

When using my iPad I have had several e-mails get lost. I hear the swoosh, but then they don't appear in my sent file. I know for a fact a couple of them were not received by the recipient.
When I send them from my desktop Mac they show in the sent file.

I had a similar problem with my macbook today.  I know for a fact that the message was received, and I received a reply, however there is no record of the original message.   My wife had a similar problem a week ago with here imac.  Sounds like a mm problem.

  • Default Mail attachments to "View As Icon"

Is there a way to default attachments to "View As Icon" instead of previewing them in Mail? Specifically MP3s, since there's no way to drag the preview player directly into iTunes. I know I can just right click to change, but I get a lot of emails with MP3s attached and need to pull them straight into playlists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

"Iconizer" or "attachment tamer" could be your answer.

  • Mail attachments don't work iphone

I have three users who updated their phones to 7.0.4.  After doing so, half of the email attachments don't show up in emails.  Instead, they get a "this message has no content."  It happens with different email senders and different attachment file types (pdf and xls).  One user specifically noted that it happened after updating to 7.0.4.  Two of those users are on iPhone 4S's and another is on a variation of 5.
Any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it?
side note: mail attachments on those same problem emails work on the user's Outlook clients as well as Android phones (when tested).

Use Plain Text instead of RTF for message composition and place any attachments below all message text including a signature if one is used.
The Send Windows Friendly Attachments option is designed for only one thing and that is removing the Apple resource fork from an attached file which is invisible from fellow Mac users.

  • How to access Mail-Attachments in XI 3.0?

    Hello everyone,
We have a scenario, where a Mail with attached Files (text, pdf) is sent to the XI. I would like to write a module which accesses the Mail-Attachments, retrieves their content and appends the Base64-encoded content to the payload. I've tried several things, took inspiration from existing Module-Beans, but i never really came to the point that i have the attachment-name and content to do the Encoding.
Could anyone give me a hint what is a proper way to achieve this?
Or is there probably a more elegant method to access Mail attachments within XI (3.0)?
    Thank you,
    Magnus

This is an example for getting the file name of the attachment:
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/AdapterModulePI7.0GetAttachmentName
To read the attachment, you just use replace getDocument by getAttachment or getAttchmentIterator
    https://help.sap.com/javadocs/pi/SP3/xpi/com/sap/engine/interfaces/messaging/api/Message.html
Check the source of the sample module to see how it works.

  • Mail attachments in leopard do not open correctly

I have noticed my mail attachments on my macbook do not open correctly. When I get attachments in mail on my IMac using, Tiger they appear directly under the e-mail. Even quicktime apps. On my macbook, which is using leopard, they usually are in the form of am attachment you must click on which in turn opens another window. Today I got a Merry Christmas wave sent to me. It works fine on my IMac. It is a mime file. On my macbook it doesn't do anything. It just says Merry Christmas. No wave, no turning into Santa, nothing! They are both there in the same spot, (no attachment to click on in the macbook) all my mail preferences are identical, but it doesn't work. Can anyone please tell me why? I am still new to a mac and frustrated. Thanks

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!
