Mail attachments not being decoded

I use the mail.app to get mail from a Lotus mail server via Lotus's IMAP support. Currently mail attachments in messages sent by a LotusNotes client have not been decoding and are appearing as ascii-encoded text in the body of the mail message. When I use Thunderbird to access my mail, the attachments decode properly. Any thoughts on how to address this problem in mail.app?
Thanks for your help.

This happens when you have Always Insert Attachments at end of Message selected and you have not text in the body of the message. If you add any text, you should be able to add the attachment.
Seems to me it's a bit of an oversight of the programming in that it is trying to find the "end of the Message" but can't, so it fails silently.

Mail suddenly not being received from server. The ISP tells me there's nothing wrong at his end. I can see emails on the server if I look up WebMail; they don't come into Mail. I haven't changed anything lately. The incoming server details haven't changed; the Connection Doctor shows the accounts are connected; I've turned everything off including the modern. Have exhausted my limited knowledge. Anyone with something similar?

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

  • Mail attachments not saving to the folder I choose

My mail attachments are not saving to the folder I choose.  When I select a file to save in the mail drop-down box, I am given options to save to a folder of my choice.  However, when I select save the document is actually saved deep in some Mail Downloads area, not in my chosen folder.  Has anyone had a similar problem and found a solution?

What kind of files are you trying to attach?
Is it all recipients having this problem or specific one(s)?
Could you possibly post a screenshot of the sent message from your side and a screenshot of what the recipient sees?
What happens if you send one of these messages to yourself?
If a forum member gives an answer you like, give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem.

  • Sent mail is not being received

Some of my emails use my me.com account are not being received by the recipient.
The emails show being SENT in my SENT box.

I have a similar but perhaps unrelated problem. Every now and then, I send an email on my gmail account using Mail. The sent mail appears in my sent box, but never arrives, and does not appear in my webmail sent box (where it usually does, using gmail). Most of the time it works, and it even works most of the time with people it has had a problem with, including mail I send to myself at work at my professional address. Usually arrives...but not always. I don't know how to trust my sent mail box without always going on the webmail to make sure it actually went out. I only have this problem when using the Mail application, but there are no other common characteristics (attachements, ISPs, etc) to say there could be a problem with one of those things. Anyone else have this problem?

  • Batch Process mail notifications not being sent

Racking my brain on this. On our prod 9.3.1 server, we reconfigured the mail server/database. I logged in as the application owner to establish the mail in application settings. Under workspace/administer/notifications I am able to successfully send a test email.
The emails are not being sent for any of our workspace reporting batch processes. What log would be associated with this for further review?

  • Tip for Mail certificates not being honored for parked domains

I was having trouble with certificates not being honored, such that when my imap mail was being checked I constantly had the warning box come up to tell me the certificate was not valid. I would show the certificate, tell it to be trusted always, and yet I'd still see the triangle warning next to my inbox, and have trouble connecting. Then I saw a post about having multiple domains pointed to the same server, so I forwarded from one domain to the other and now the certificate is honored.
The other domain I had was parked at the same domain by my host, so the underlying imap server domain was the same for both. That must have caused a conflict in having both certificates be honored, and indeed only one of them at a time would work. Deleting one of the accounts solved the problem, though I had to set up forwarding to bring all my mail from one to the other.
While the problem is solved, it seems like there ought to be a way that I can have mail to my main domain and parked domain using the same underlying domain imap server not cause this conflict, but in the meantime I'll just have to forward from the parked to the main domain.
Just wanted to share the solution here.

    Alex Thanks for the reply
my entry in amavisd.conf reads as follows:
    @localdomainsmaps = ( [".$mydomain"] ); # list of all local domains
I thought this was supposed to pick up all the local aliases?
What does changing to ( 1 ); do differently to above??
    TIA
    Tony

  • Attachments not being emailed

When emailing an invoice or po, attachments are not emailed.  Recipient receive emails but no attachments.  If the sender selects attachments tab, browse and pick the attachment, the user receives an alert that the attachment will be overwritten.  If sender selects to overwrite the attachment, email is being sent, and the recipient receives the email with the attachement.

Any body has any ideas as to why this happens?
    Thank you
    Larry

    Here's more information...
If the user is emailing an invoice/po, and is attaching a document through the email "wizard", emails are not being delivered.  If the users answers no to "Would you like to attach a document" pop-up windows, the email is being delivered to the recipient within seconds, and the only information that it contains is as small table with invoice number, date, customer, remarks and due date.
tracing the message on the exchange server, I can tell that the message doesn't even leave the B1 server... I can't see the message on the Exchange server logs.
Is there something that was missed during the installation?  Am I missing any configuration steps?
Thank you in advance for your help

  • Mail is not being checked automatically

My e-mail accounts are not being checked automatically even though I have them set to be check every hour. I also tried a day at 30 minutes but I noticed the iPhone is still not checking my messages. I have to check manually. Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue, which appears to have started with the last firmware update to my iPhone. Yahoo no longer pushes mail to my iPhone, and the check every 15 minutes does not work - I have to manually refresh my email accounts to check for mail. This used to work correctly. I've had no luck finding answers online yet.

  • MAIL preference not being saved

Recently switched to MAIL from Eudora. Set MAIL 4.3 as default application for sending and receiving mail.
When I check the prefs to be sure, it shows the default as Eudora. I've changed it several times, but can't seem to convince my machine to SAVE those prefs. I looked in vain for a SAVE command, but if it's there, it escaped me.
I wonder if I'm using Spam Sieve may be causing the problem.
And, yes, I still have Eudora installed because I'm not yet through copying the contacts and messages I want to meld with the new ones. My intent is to delete Eudora once I'm satisfied that MAIL works the way I want it to.

I THINK I may have found the answer. Eudora still had in its prefs the choice that IT should be the default mailer. I de-selected this choice and, so far, MAIL is not changing it. (SO FAR)
If it stays this way for a few weeks, I'll consider the problem solved.

  • Why do Apple Mail attachments not show in SENT?

    I use Mountain Lion OSX10.8.2 on a 27" iMac/1TB HD/12GB RAM.
When I write an Apple Mail email and attach a jpg (for example),
I am never sure if the attachment was sent.
Apple Mail will not show me in SENT that there was an attachment.
There is no record of the attachment on the previous sent email.
Am I missing something? How the heck am I suppose to know if
ANY attachment was sent or not?

Hmm I thought this got sorted out in 10.8 but maybe not.
I asume you are in full screen, with the three column view?
If you change to classic you should see the attachment paper clip?
What I had to do for a work-a-round was create a "rule." Even with this you have to right click the selected sent box>> apply rules

  • Saving e-mail attachments (NOT PICTURES)

Does anyone know if there is an app out there that will allow you to save e-mail attachments? Word, excel, or PP.

Cannot be done. There is no user-accessible file system on the iPhone. Apps that allow file storage/transfer (Air Sharing, File Magnet, DataCase) store the files 'within' the apps themselves, and can only get them transferred over WiFi with the app active.

  • Email with attachments not being sent

When I send an email with an attachment it is not being recieved. It shows up in the 'sent' box but never gets to the person I send it to.

It could be that the size o fthe attachment is too large and the server used by the reciever rejects it.  It could be you have the wrong address (not as likely).  I'd try the following:
    1) send a short email with no attachment to xxx.
    2) send a short email with a small file attached to xxx.
    3) send an email with the file you tried to send previously to xxx.
Which of these works, which don't?

  • Mail attachment not being attached

I am trying to send an attachment but it is not working. I have two versions of the mail function ... one for Entourage and the other for Mail. The Entourage version works ... but the one for Mail does not have the attachment and I cannot see what I am doing wrong. Here is the code:
    on sendEmail(theMessage)
set subjectvar to "Monthly backup status for " & dateText
    if strMailApplication is "Entourage" then
    tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
set composeMessage to (a reference to (make new outgoing message ¬
    with properties {recipient:{address:strRecipientAddr, display name:strRecipientName, recipient type:to recipient}, content:theMessage, subject:subjectvar} ¬
    make new attachment at composeMessage with properties {file:strLogFile}
    send composeMessage
    end tell
    else
    tell application "Mail"
set mailversion to version as string
    set theAttachment to strLogFile
set composeMessage to (a reference to (make new outgoing message))
    tell composeMessage
    make new to recipient with properties {address:strRecipientAddr, name:strRecipientName}
    set the subject to subjectvar
    set the content to theMessage
    set the sender to strSenderAddr
    tell content
    make new attachment with properties {file name:theAttachment}
    end tell
    end tell
    send composeMessage
    end tell
    end if
    end sendEmail

I figured it out ... the problem was that I needed to specify the attached file name as an alias ... once I did that I was able to send the attachment.
    Here is the relevant change:
set theAttachment to file strLogFile as alias
