Mail - attachments visible either as logo or full page/picture

Whenever I attach a photo, it displays as the full photo and not an icon. Last night I attached 4 documents (PDF) and two displayed as logos and the other two as full page display. How do I get mail to attach as logos only?

Greetings,
When you attach an image to an email, it is displayed in the message window and (if you send Plain Text email) to the recipient as well. If you have a group of images and you compress them into a single .zip or .sit file, they are shown as an attachment icon to you and the recipient when they receive it.
However, if you attach a PDF file that is a single page, it will be displayed in the message window; if your PDF file is more than one page, it will be shown as an icon.

  • Mail attachments not sending when connection slow

I have a user with 7.04 on company iPhone. Exchange account set up through mail.
He is trying to send pictures from the phone to his own email account, the building he works in doesn't have a good signal(no wireless there either). He will select a picture to send, and it either won't ever show up or it will show up days later (even when selecting a small size).
I tested the phone in a area with a good signal, it was able to send pictures at full size relatively quickly. So it's obvious without a slow connection the mail program is working - but I'm curious if there is an app or a setting I can change that will reliably email the photo's even with a slow connection, even if it takes a while. It seems like the mail is failing, but he isn't getting any delivery failure message.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Without a good connection, you won't be able to send anything.

  • Mail - Attachments - Lame!!!

I have been using Entourage as a mail client for as long as I can remember.
Have so often been tempted to try and use Mail/Address Book/Calendar instead, as it is so much more user friendly with my iPhone, plus the more glamorous refinements such as "stationary" in Mail, and multiple Calendars in iCal/iPhone.
I use email very heavily for my business - I am a business broker, and virtually every email I send or receive usually has attachments of some type - 70% are .pdf files.
Today, I exported all my accounts (four) and "folders" from Entourage into Mail.  I love everything about mail except for the way that "attachments" are handled.
In Entourage, I am used to either dragging attachments into the attachments pane, formatting them as I wish for either Mac, Windows, or everybody, and for my recipients to find them easily.  If I need to add two, three, four or more attachments, I can either drag them into the pane, or select them in the finder and add them.  They are ALWAYS added as files, that appear in file format by my recipient.
Unless I am missing something (which I sincerely hope I am!), Mail seems to add them by default as a picture in the email, not as a file.  If you are adding one attachment, it appears you can change the formatting to show the attachment as an icon at the bottom of the email, but adding two or more attachments at one time in this manner seems impossible.
I cannot believe that Apple would leave this aspect of a program to be so lame -  but all my research so far seems to indicate that is the case.
I am an "Apple Freak" - please tell me I am wrong - please let me know that there is a way to handle attachments in a business like manner that works efficienctly.
    Thanks,
    Julian

    Hi Don,
That sort of works - problem is, I have two graphics in my standard signature - and it turns those into attachments as well!!!
Looks like the only way this (sort of) work, is to remove my default signature on creating the new email, insert the attachments, re-introduce the signature and send.  This brings up another problem - when I receive the email in "Mail" my signature looks perfect, and the icons are the bottom, but I have discovered that in "Entourage" the attachments are perfect in the attachments pane, but my signature is all broken up into sections - even in an email without attachments!!!!
Looks like I will be experimenting over the weekend - if I have a Eureka moment, I will let you know - in the meantime I am grateful for your input Don.
    Best,
    Julian

  • Mail attachments in leopard do not open correctly

I have noticed my mail attachments on my macbook do not open correctly. When I get attachments in mail on my IMac using, Tiger they appear directly under the e-mail. Even quicktime apps. On my macbook, which is using leopard, they usually are in the form of am attachment you must click on which in turn opens another window. Today I got a Merry Christmas wave sent to me. It works fine on my IMac. It is a mime file. On my macbook it doesn't do anything. It just says Merry Christmas. No wave, no turning into Santa, nothing! They are both there in the same spot, (no attachment to click on in the macbook) all my mail preferences are identical, but it doesn't work. Can anyone please tell me why? I am still new to a mac and frustrated. Thanks

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

  • Attempting to open e-mail attachments causes Openoffice to crash

I have reset Firefox to default settings, uninstalled and reloaded Openoffice. Openoffice then works ok until I attempt to open an e-mail attachment, which causes it to crash. It then does not respond to any commands, nor is anything visible.

Does it work correctly if, instead of choosing Open right away, you choose Save and then open from disk? (Assuming you get the Open/Save/Cancel dialog)

  • Opening XFDF E-Mail Attachments

Quite possibly this issue has been addressed so feel free to point me to a fix -
When opening XFDF e-mail attachments a blank Acrobat window opens and usually -- but not always -- a browser window opens where the dynamically-generated PDF is displayed. This occurs with either IE7, IE8, or Firefox used as the default browser.
The unfortunate aspect of this is that it confuses my users as they are automatically looking for the document in the Acrobat window and not in a new browser window.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this issue?

Normally XFDF would be downloaded and then imported into the form. If you think of it this way, it is probably easier to explain to folks. If the basic form that is referenced in the XFDF is moved, you would actually get an error.

  • Can't open pdf documents from mail attachments

Have Adobe Reader free version installed. IPAD2 using latest IOS 7
When trying to open a pdf attachment from mail attachments, there is a quick flash screen that displays and the attachment doesn't open.
Is there a fix for this?

Will it open other PDF attachments?  Perhaps that particular attachment is corrupt?
    A few things to try...
    1. Remove apps from the Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
    - Press the home button when done.
    2. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    3. Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Since upgrading to 8.0.2, I can't open mail attachments JPG

Why can't I open mail attachments photo.JPG, PDF...  I could before I updated to 8.0.2

Did you have Firefox 37.0 or 37.0.1 before you updated? The changes were very minor, so I think the problem is more along the lines of a glitch than a program change...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • E-Mail App: Why not play .GSM e-mail attachments like .WAV are played?

I get two kinds of voice-mail attachments forwarded to my e-mail.
At work, our "OneVoice" system sends me a .wav file as an e-mail attachment.
My personal Efax.com number sends me a .gsm file as an e-mail attachment.
On my computer, the Quicktime player will play either type of audio file.
On my iPod Touch, the Mail app will open the .wav attachment and play it with Quicktime player.
Unfortunately, the Mail app just shows the .gsm file as an icon in the message but does not attempt to open or play the attachment, though I confident Quicktime player on iPod could play .gsm like it does on my computer.
Is there any way I can play a .gsm e-mail attachment on my iPod Touch?
Should the Mail app recognize a .gsm e-mail attachment like it does a .wav ?

The mail app will only recognize what it is programmed to recognize. There are many files that work on desktop computers that don't play on the iPhone. Some of apples own office docs will not open on the iPhone while MS office docs will.
Apple does not list all files the iPhone does support, but the audio support does not include GSM. If the phone doesn't know how to decode it, the Mail app can't play it either.
    From Apple iPhone tech specs:
Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

  • Mail attachments not saving to the folder I choose

My mail attachments are not saving to the folder I choose.  When I select a file to save in the mail drop-down box, I am given options to save to a folder of my choice.  However, when I select save the document is actually saved deep in some Mail Downloads area, not in my chosen folder.  Has anyone had a similar problem and found a solution?

What kind of files are you trying to attach?
Is it all recipients having this problem or specific one(s)?
Could you possibly post a screenshot of the sent message from your side and a screenshot of what the recipient sees?
What happens if you send one of these messages to yourself?

  • Default Mail attachments to "View As Icon"

Is there a way to default attachments to "View As Icon" instead of previewing them in Mail? Specifically MP3s, since there's no way to drag the preview player directly into iTunes. I know I can just right click to change, but I get a lot of emails with MP3s attached and need to pull them straight into playlists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

"Iconizer" or "attachment tamer" could be your answer.

  • Mail attachments don't work iphone

I have three users who updated their phones to 7.0.4.  After doing so, half of the email attachments don't show up in emails.  Instead, they get a "this message has no content."  It happens with different email senders and different attachment file types (pdf and xls).  One user specifically noted that it happened after updating to 7.0.4.  Two of those users are on iPhone 4S's and another is on a variation of 5.
Any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it?
side note: mail attachments on those same problem emails work on the user's Outlook clients as well as Android phones (when tested).

Use Plain Text instead of RTF for message composition and place any attachments below all message text including a signature if one is used.
The Send Windows Friendly Attachments option is designed for only one thing and that is removing the Apple resource fork from an attached file which is invisible from fellow Mac users.

  • E-mail attachments appear as viewable page- want icon only

I send many e-mails a day with word and pdf attachments to them, to clients.  Two things I struggle with and hope to solve.
1- I use the Mac mail system.  When I attach a document, sometimes only the icon shows, and sometimes the whole page shows.  From reading other posts, it looks like if the attachment is only 1 page, the whole page shows on my screen.  I DO NOT want that.  I print my e-mails for my files and when the whole page shows, an e-mail that should be 1/2 a page turns into a 4-page e-mail.  A waste of paper and space in my files.  How do I make all the attachments appear as icons?  I have tried right click, "show as icon" and that makes only the icon show on the screen, but when I print the e-mail, the entire page of 1-page attachments print (although smaller), making the e-mail way too long.  HELP!
2- is there a way, when I attach files, for them to appear in a separate line at the top of the message, like for windows/outlook users?  I absolutely hate that whereever my cursor is at the time I do the attachment, that's where the attachment goes to.  I often compose e-mail and then go back to revise something, forget to move the cursor, attach, have to delete, and go back and reattach.
Also I get Windows users who get very confused by my e-mails and keep replying and saying there was no attachment.  I don't know where attachments show up on the other end but I'm getting issues with that, too.
Thank you to any one who can give me solutions!

This is easy enough to do on any individual message. I think the trick most people are looking for is how to make this a default on ALL messages.

    From that link:
Turn off automatic attachment preview in Mail
Mail, by default, provides a preview of attachments in can read, such as graphics and PDF files. However, you can run a command in Terminal to turn this off. Run the following:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
Quit Mail and relaunch it. When you view a message, all attachments will be shown as icons only.
To restore the original functionality, run this command:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool no
