Mail attempts to send with an old deleted account.

I created an account for my wife in Mail which she has never used. Mail started trying to send messages from her account, unsuccessfully.
I cancelled her account except the two I use for myself but Mail still tries to use her account, every so often but not all the time. Nevertheless, when MAIL has decided to send an email with this account it just sits in the Outbox, trying over and over.
This started before I upgraded to 10.4.5, which I have also re-installed since with no changes to the way Mail behaves.
Because I did not create that account on my other disk, I attempted to install a Mail app from the other disk but it still tries to send from the cancelled account on this machine.
Is it possibly in the cache or plist files?
Marcus

No one responded to my question in a few days, so I had a look around at questions that were responded to and tried to make my question sound more interesting.
It worked. After re-phrasing my question I got replies and Ernie Stamper solved the problem quite easily.

  • Why doesMail maddengly keep attempting to send with an old deleted account?

Every now and then, Mail "decides" to use an old account to send from.
I've been back into preferences and cancelled the account.
No such account exists at my server. It was only registered in Mail.
It is unable to send these emails using the cancelled account.
At some point it "reverts" to trying to send it with my primary account successfully. Sometimes it doesn't revert and I have to send the emai from another machine.
Where could this glich be hiding?

I found that "old" email account in the Outgoing Mail
Server pop up menu and removed it as you suggested.
That in effect solved that problem, however when
sending mail from the corrected account
Just a clarification. You didn't "correct" that account. You just removed an undesired server from the list of outgoing (SMTP) servers that Mail keeps independently of any particular account.
Any outgoing server created via the "Server Settings..." button in the Account Information pane for any account automatically gets added to that list and becomes available to all accounts.
Any modifications made to the list of outgoing servers from any account are independent of the particular account you used to make the changes. If you remove a server off that list from a particular account, the server also becomes unavailable to the other accounts.
Despite appearing as part of the Account Information pane, the list of outgoing servers itself is not tied to any particular account in any way. Only the choice of a particular server from that list is part of the account settings.
I now get this message from time to time when
sending to a "group" in my Address Book.
This message could not be delivered and will remain
in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
    The server "mail.optusnet.com.au" rejected the
address "83001885". Changing the group name into a
    number!!
If I send to individuals from this group it works OK
I find it hard to believe that this could be related in any way to the problem that originated this thread. If the solution proposed by Ernie doesn't work, I'd suggest starting a new thread with this new problem so that other users not interested in the original question can benefit from the discussion, unless you believe both problems are indeed related.
BTW, if the solution suggested by Ernie doesn't work I have no idea what the problem could be. The fact that sending to individuals in that group works while sending to the group as a whole doesn't, suggests that when sending to the group Mail chooses a different address for some of the recipients, so you should examine the addresses giving special attention to any addresses that you don't use when sending to individuals.

My icloud account on macmail is sending from my old (deleted!) work account that was on gmail. How do i stop this happening?

Delete the Gmail SMTP server, then pick the correct SMTP server for the account that you are using.
Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): expand the dropdown next to the label and delete the incorrect server, then pick the correct server and check the box that says "Use Only This Server"

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.

    You can not merge accounts.

You can't delete an existing account, you can only choose to stop using it.  It will still be there should you decide to use it again in the future.

My iPod Classic is synced with an old iTunes account.  How can I transfer this music to my new iTunes account?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
    To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

  • Mail hanging during send with large attachments

Have been having this problem off and on since upgrading to Lion.  When sending an email with a fairly large attachment (say, 6mb), Mail will just hang and never complete the send.  My only work around is to delete the message from my outbox, shut down Mail and then resend the message through another client.
My mail data is hosted by Rackspace on Exchange Server.  I can send the same message that hangs up in Mail via Rackspace's webmail app with no problem, so it's not a problem with my upload speed.  I can also avoid this problem by using Outlook as the client, but I'd really prefer to use Mail. It's as if Mail just loses contact with the server and keeps trying to reestablish.
Are there any known issues with Lion and Rackspace's Exchange hosing?

    Hi,
"embedded jpegs" is not good terminology. If the JPEGs are attachments, they are not embedded -- don't confuse embedded with View in Place, btw.
How large a JPEG have you been able to attach and sent? How is the computer connected -- wireless or via ethernet cable?

  • Mail from no sender with no topic and no message

For the past month or so I have been getting messages from no sender, with no subject line and no content.
Does anyone know what this is and how I can stop it?
    Thanks,
    Ivan

    Hi Ivan,
It's some problem outside of your control most likely, I've seen a few myself as well as other reports of this. I get a few mails not even addressed to me.
You can make a Rule that if From does not contain @, them move to trash.
Still, if you think it may be an issue on your end, this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
One other possibility... did you show long Headers, is there any info there?

  • Mail will not send from iPhone on .Mac Account!

This is weird. From my .Mac account when I try to send an email message, I get the "Cannot Access Outgoing Mail Server", whereas if I set up a Gmail account on the same phone, it sends just fine.
I've deleted and re-created the account, restored, updated, software, and all the above again, been to the Genius Bar -- yet remain stymied. Is there some simple solution I've overlooked?

Your problem is with Cox and Cox not having an authenticated SMTP server.
Not many ISPs provide an authenticated SMTP server and I'm not sure why - especially with laptops and devices such as the iPhone so popular.
I'm a Time Warner/RoadRunner customer for cable and internet access and I quit using my RR email account several years ago for this very reason. I switched to using my .Mac account as my primary personal email account which has an authenticated SMTP server. I'm able to send messages with the account regardless the internet service provider used for internet access. My business POP account also has an authenticated SMTP server and no problems sending with this account either - via a number of different Wi-Fi connections and EDGE.
I suggest seriously considering switching to another email account. A Gmail account is free, can be accessed as a POP or IMAP account with the email client on your computer as well as with the iPhone's email client, has a good spam filter at the incoming mail server, and has an authenticated SMTP server.
If you ever move or decide to change your ISP from Cox to a different ISP, your email account and address will not need to change. You can access and send messages with a Gmail account with any ISP - the same with a .Mac account. And you'll have much more server storage space than Cox provides.

  • Mail 8.2 Sending Messages from Wrong Email Account

This has been happening more often than not lately on the Mail 8.2 app. It's driving me crazy, and really messing up my business since I have a professional email (using Outlook) and a personal email (Gmail).
Both email accounts are setup on my Mac Mail. What has been happening is that when I write an email with my professional email (Outlook) and hit send everything seems fine and it will send (like it should!). It shows up in my sent messages in the Mac Mail app under my Outlook account and everything, great!... Oh, but the thing is, it doesn't really send from my Outlook account.
When I log into my Outlook account on my web browser, the email is not shown to have been sent. But, When I log into my Gmail account on the web... What?! There is the message in my Gmail sent folder! How??? It has my signature from my Outlook account and everything. To add to the strangeness, when I look at my Mail app on my iPhone, it says that the email was sent from my Gmail, and not my Outlook...
So, Mail on my Mac says sent from intended email account (Outlook), but in reality it somehow gets magically sent from my personal Gmail account... and shows up on the webpages and my iPhone as sent form Gmail... This doesn't happen every time. Just when Mail feels like it I guess, HA!
This is frustrating. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I never know if people are getting my emails, but I finally got the fluke to happen with a friend. Voila, in fact when this happens even though it's being sent in Mail though my Outlook account, my friend receives the email from my Gmail account with my Outlook signature...
What is going on? Is anyone else having this issue?
I need my personal and professional messages synced to my iPhone and Mac, or I would just say good riddance to the Mac Mail app.
I will just have to start sending my professional messages form the Outlook webpage until this is fixed. This is really unprofessional Apple. I never had this issue prior to Yosemite.
Hope this made since, it's the best I can make of it.
    Thanks!

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select
Card ▹ Make This My Card
    from the menu bar.

  • Mac Mail doesn't send with parentheses in signature...

I met with someone at the Apple Genius Bar today to try and troubleshoot a problem I've been having with sending mail via Comcast.
In short we were able to find a workaround  I decided to post what we concluded in the case that someone else can clarify or benefit from what we learned... which is that any parentheses in the e-mail signature prevents the e-mail from being sent.
We attempted, almost 40 e-mails, of various configurations of the signature which contained a phone number.  regardless of its position, formatting including newline characters, when the phone number didn't have the parentheses the mail sent.
And all these tests occurred with a fresh new e-mail account which by default set perfectly every time. Attachments, pasted and graphics, made no difference. All the previous mailboxes were also removed and plans were trashed so we were starting from a clean start.
This is with Mail version 4.5 and OS 10.6.8 on an iMac... I can't go to mail 5 I need to run Rosetta.

I'm getting a similar problem. Snow Leopard Mail for me seems to be choking on large attachments - sending them, forwarding them, or even moving them from one IMAP folder to another.
My mails are getting through, but it takes a long time and they are dragging the whole system to a crawl in the process.
