Mail Auto Updates and Deletes Email Accounts & Messages

The Mail software seems to automatically update (no pop up that asks "Mother May I?") and I lose all accounts except for the .Mac account. I lose the account info and messages, as well as my preferences for Mail. I have "figured" out how to get everything back, but it takes times and is very frustrating.
Can anyone tell me how to stop this, or fix it? Is it a bug? Is Apple aware of it?

Grace Period before Cancelling and Deleting Email Accounts

I recently change my phone provider to a VoIP phone, but did not cancel my DSL service. However, once the porting of my phone number occured, Verizon "suspended " account completely. I have not access to my email, and according to the agent I spoke with today, the account is inaccessable and has been completely deleted. I can't sign up for "my domain" as one needed to do this before the number porting.

With no notice or information, all of our contacts are lost and nothing can be done? Does Verizon think that punishment of customers who try other products is the best way to get them back.
As someone pointed out on this forum, "account suspended" clearly means that the account exists somewhere, and all the data surely wasn't deleted. But the agent I spoke with says it's gone for good.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you.Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".
Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

HT5361 Just now accidentally deleted email account. No warning appears and was deleted. Mail was not back up ed. Does exist any way how for Undo of this delete operation (need to recover mails and contacts there)

If the account was an IMAP account your emails should re-appear if you recreate the email account. If the account was POP you hopefully have backup (TIme Machine?) you can restore the emails from.

Download the yahoo email app, if you already deleted and reinstalled the email account and still have issue.
This is a known issue with Yahoo email account.

If you delete email on your desktop using iCloud, they will be automatically deleted on the iPhone and iPad.

inside mail, how do you find and delete old useless messages, there are thousands of them.

go thru all your mail boxes, and delete, all your synced boxes, highlight the stuff you want to trash, click delete.
Go thru all the boxes and do the delete, then go to your server trash, and delete.
You canthen go to on my mac and do the same thing.
This is way different than 10.6.8, and I'm sure there is a much better way to do this, but at least it will get rid of some junk.
