Mail autofill in Lion, where is file kept?

I created a new volume of Lion on my MacPro. The previously used hard drive was corrupted somehow.
I have relied solely on the autofill feature in Apple Mail, and do not keep email contacts in my address book.
In previous OSX incarnations, (Tiger, Leopard, etc.) I found a plist or some other file that when copied to the new system,
brought the accumulated autofill email addresses into the new mail.
Can someone help me locate this nugget ?
Thank you.
SheldonR

thank you for your kind reply.  This is where I would previously find the sought after file.
I had to jump back to a 10.5 volume to confirm. And yes, this is how it used to go for me.
Now, in Lion, (at least on my computer) there is no Library folder in my User folder.
Application Support now resides in: Hard Drive / Library / Application Support.
Within Application Support, I find no Mail data.
Then, there is:  System / Library / Address Book Plug-ins.... but again, no obvious Mail stuff.
Haven't discovered any other Mail supporting files thus far
I'm still miffed

  • Mail autofill list /where is the file for this list

    I want backup the file of the autofill list on mail new message sender
    Where is this list ?
    in French :
    Je veux faire la suvegarde du fichier de la liste "remplissage automatique" des courriels dans mail quand j'écrit un nouveau message
    Thank's

    The Mail application's autofill feature pulls from the Address Book and the list of Previous Recipients in Mail. Mail stores all message recipients in a list of Previous Recipients but the data for this list is stored in the primary Address Book data file.
    At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients. A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address. You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book but there is not an available function for exporting the list of Previous Recipients.
    Using the Address Book Backup feature should also backup the list of Previous Recipients in Mail but I'm not sure.

  • On iMac Lion where are the fractions in Pages and Mail?  They used to be under "characters" in the "Edit" drop down menu, but they aren't there anymore.

    Since downloading Lion, I am unable to find fractions in the edit>special characters submenu anymore (for Pages and Mail).  Anybody know where they went to?

    You could use the Auto Correction in the Pages preferences. There are several pre defined fractions. You have just to check them so you can use them in Pages. I can't help you with Lion as I don't have it.

  • Where are files for my applications kept? I'm trying to do a clean install.

    I have an intel imac OS 10.6.8. I have to do a clean install and need to transfer my files to a USB flashdrive because time machine hasn't backed up in 3 months. Where are files for my applications kept?

    Since you mentioned Time Machine, I'm assuming you have an external hard drive? So why not make a complete backup - either with Time Machine or a bootable clone with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperSuper? Applications sometimes transfer well, but not always - it depends how many files/parts they have on the hard drive in different locations. There is no simple answer to your question because of that - it depends on the individual application. I'd back up all of it, do the install, and then use Setup Assistant to port things back.

  • Where are files for my Oracle 10g DB kept?

    Hi, I want to set up a connection from Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 to my Oracle DB.
    Where are the Oracle DB files kept?
    Also, will the connection work? I have the Oracle XE ODBC driver...

    To start a new connection, you have to browse with explorer for a database "file". A typical one you're looking for would be an .mdf file. Thought it was a bit weird but that's how it works with this IDE. There doesn't seem to be a way to connect to a server, then open a database.
    Sorry for the dumb question.You might find this helpful:

  • Mac Server OS 10.2.8 How long are log files kept and where?

    Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Where are log files kept on Mac OS 10.2.8 server?
    Where do I look?
    There is a user who keeps logging onto the server and
    somehow modifies a file he does not have access to.
    Thanks!
    Tim

    Different files are kept for different times, but the system-wide logs are basically in two places: /var/log/ and /Library/Logs Each user also has a ~/Library/Logs folder that mainly just deals with applications issues for that user.
    If you suspect a user is fiddling too much, the last command can produce some interesting output.
    You may also want to double check the user's numerical UIDs, since the machine just cares about the number, the "name" is only for human conveniencs.

  • Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather that adding them as a file. How do i stop this?

    Mail (in Mountain Lion) automatically opens my PDF attachments rather than attaching them as a "file". How can I prevent this?

    Download and run the free application TinkerTool (not "TinkerTool System"), select the Applications tab, and check the box labeled Don't display contents of attachments inline. Then relaunch Mail.

  • Lost textedit files "untitled" with upgarde mountain lion. where does lion / mount.lion saves those files?

    I probably lost some textedit files "untitled" with upgarde to mountain lion. where does lion / mountain lion saves those files?

    Lane,
    That latest raw update also shows supported devices. The EOS-1Ds is still shown as supported by Mountain Lion in the knowledge base article that accompanies it. Bump!
    I wonder if using Disk Utility and verify/fix permissions may restore your RAW capability.
    Don't have Aperture or Lightroom.
    I installed the recent raw updates into 10.8.2. The DB5W2360.TIF file has a generic Preview icon. Graphic Converter 8.3.1 opens .cr2 files, and it opened this TIF file nicely as well. GC is willing to modify white balance with a condition that it cannot be done in place, and must be exported to a different format.
    Not much help, I know.

  • Is Lion, Mail now able to handle .DAT files?

    Tonight I had to purchase third party software to allow me to read the content of .DAT files  created but Microsoft Outlook
    I just wonder if anyone knows if the new Mail application in Lion can now decipher .DAT files ?
    Would be nice if I would not need a third party plug in to Mail.

    Unfortunately, no, the SHTML plugin for iWS (as of 4.1 SP9 and 6.0 SP2) does not support arbitrary MIME content types.

  • Where are Theatre files kept locally in iMovie?

    Hi people,
    i've shared a video to the Theatre and have the upload to cloud automatically enabled.
    I'm trying to keep a lid on storage at the moment so am interested to see where the files live.  I've deleted the original project and event, turned
    off WiFi and restarted iMovie.
    I'm surprised to still be able to play the movie from the Theatre. So I guess it's being stored locally somewhere. If I Show Package Contents for my iMovie library, it's not obvious it's there. It can't be streaming from iCloud because WiFi is off.
    Any experts out there? I'm using iMovie 10.0.3
    Jeff

    When you share to Theater you create copies of the movie at several different resolutions to suit different playback devices as well as sending them to iCloud.  Unless you really want this you may find it better to uncheck share to theater and simply save your movies to a disk location of your choice at the native resolution.  This will reduce storage space as well as making sharing faster.
    Geoff.

  • Where are the data files kept for 6.2.2?

    I have a client who's PC crashed.  She'd been doing full backups to Carbonite.  I've re-installed windows and the palm desktop v6.2.2 (I *think* that's what was running before).  Now I want to restore her address book.
    After doing a full recovery from Carbonite, I've got files all over the place, and copies of copies of copies.  Ugh.
    So...where should I look to restore her most recent address book?  I've searched the entire pc for *.aba, and found about 4 copies of the same file, with a date of 3-9-09.  That's *not* the last time she updated that address book.
    If I know where the files are stored, I can hopefully find them in the carbonite backup, put them in the correct spot on the PC, and be done.
    Help?
    Thanks!

    Post relates to: Palm m105

    If you are trying to access the data in a .dat file, you will want to use Palm Desktop 4.1.4 or Palm Desktop 4.2.  If you have the CD that came with the Palm, you should try installing that version.
    Once installed, you will need to create a new dumby HotSync profile; call it Test or whatever you'd like.  Then find the associated data folder on the PC.  It could be in the c:\program files\palm folder our the user's My Documents folder depending on how old the software is.
    Then, copy (don't move!) the .dat file(s) you have recovered into the correct PIM folder.  So, the address.dat file should be copied into the Address Book or Calendar folder, replacing the emply data file there.
    If Palm Desktop is still running, quit and restart it and see if the data is there.  If it isn't, the data file is either in the wrong spot or is corrupted.
    Hope that helps,
    Alan G

  • Exporting OS X Mail from Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I partitioned my iMac HD to have two partitions: Macintosh HD has Mountain Lion; I reinstalled Snow Leopard on Macintosh HD 2. Best part: you can access your user-created files from EITHER disk partition. But not so OS X Mail. I wanted to revert to Snow Leopard, since I don't like the iOS-like Mountain Lion (swipe THIS!), but Mail was a problem since all my Snow Leopard Mail was successfully migrated over to Mountain Lion during upgrade. But I think I found a way to Export Mail from ML to (a clean install of) SL.
    Try this:
    1.  Open Mail in ML. For each folder you wish to have back in SL, Export it to your ML Desktop as an .mbox file. Depending on the folder size, this can take from a few seconds to several minutes. You'll see an .mbox icon for the particular folder on your Desktop. If the word "partial" appears between the folder name and the .mbox suffix, wait a few moments for the Export to complete, at which time the word "partial" will disappear. E.g., for a folder named "Mary", if it's a huge one, the icon will first appear as "Mary.partial.mbox"; when the Export is done, you'll see "Mary.mbox".
    2.  When you've Exported all your desired folders as above, you can exit ML and re-start your Mac in SL. Open Mail in Snow Leopard, and once again, for each file you just Exported in ML to the Desktop there, select "Import Data From Apple Mail" and choose the folder from the Desktop in ML to which your mboxes were Exported. When the Import starts, you can see via a progress bar how far along it is. When done, you'll see a new folder in your SL Mail called "Import"; click on it to reveal the folder you just Imported!
    3.  Then drag the folder you just Imported out of the Import folder to "On My Mac" in SL Mail; you can then delete the Import folder.
    4.  Repeat until all your folders are where you want them (in SL).
    5.  When you have time, go back into ML and clear all those .mbox files from your Desktop.
    There MAY be an easier way, but this is what worked for me.

    The iOS view vs classic view in Mail is not the problem; I've already configured for classic view.
    Mountain Lion itself is.
    My short list (to date) of crappy Mountain Lion behavior; items marked with a double asterisk (**)represent the worst of Mountain Lion for me.
    ** No up/down arrows in scroll bar slider;
    Expose` not as easy to navigate as in Snow Leopard;
    Mail does not request passwords for either receive or send;
    No "Save Draft" icon in Mail compose window (workaround: use command-s);
    "Save As" selection missing in most app menus;
    No separate Search window in Safari (workaround: use Firefox or Opera);
    ** Can't export Mail from Mountain Lion into Snow Leopard if downgrading (I compiled this list before I stumbled on the method in this thread, but I'd prefer to effect this with Unix symbolic links);
    iWork 09 seems to have "circled the wagons" re compatibility with MS Office or LibreOffice (workaround: just use Libreoffice);

  • Mail forwarding in Lion

    In Workgroup Manager on Snow Leopard Server when you edited a users account settings, there was a "Mail" tab which you could enable/disable the mailbox, or, have the email forwarded to an external mail account.
    So where is the equivalent option to do this in Lion Server? I can find the option to enable mail services for the user in the Server.app, and I can add mailbox aliases (using secondary shortnames) to Workgroup Manager, but I can't find anywhere to allow mail forwarding to an external address.
    Any ideas anyone?

    This problem was crippling a large client after migrating from Microsoft Online Services (now Office 365) to Lion Server.
    Not having this feature is simply unacceptable.
    However, I have finalized a way to get group emails working. It involves adding the LDAP 'mail' attribute to each group that you would like to have members 'subscribed' to for group email (simply by being in that group) by doing the instructions below.
    Open Directory Utility on your Lion Server. Authenticate as the LDAP Admin account (usually diradmin) and edit 'groups' in LDAPv3/127.0.0.1. You can add an object type called EMailAddress for any group in LDAP. Add the accounts to the group that you would like to receive email.
    I preferred creating my own file called /etc/postfix/ldap-groups.cf, but you can use the provided /etc/postfix/ldap-aliases.cf if desired.
    In it, I put the following information to make postfix find the email address for the group, and then expand memberUid to uid, then formatting the results in an acceptable email format.
    /etc/postfix/ldap-groups.cf
    server_host = localhost
    search_base = cn=groups,dc=domain,dc=tld
    version = 3
    query_filter = (mail=%s)
    result_attribute = memberUid
    result_format = %[email protected]
    Once that is configured, you can test it by the Terminal:
    $ postmap -q (EMailAddress)@domain.tld ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-groups.cf
    It should return users' email addresses.
    After that, add the following information into main.cf
    virtual_alias_maps = ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-groups.cf
    Restart postfix
    # sudo postfix reload
    Send yourself a test email and enjoy the functionality of what should have been included in Lion Server in the first place.
    I am currently looking for a way to query OpenLDAP in a similar way, but instead be able to get the group email address to forward to users in it and to addresses outside of only LDAP users: e.g. forward to uid1, uid2, name(at)gmail.com.
    Also, being able to have some kind of rules for who can email the group ... would be nice. However, it seems that Apple has run out of nice.

  • In mail, my mail is saved as an outlook file by default. I want to change default to mail?

    In mail, my mail is saved as an outlook file, i want it saved as a mail file? Change default, how?

    Thanks, but this is what's happening:
    In Mail, Contacts, Calendarts>Add Account
    Add a MobileMe or Other?
    If I choose MobileMe, it asks for my MobileMe account. If I enter that info, it tells me I already have that account set up, which I do.
    So I clicked the Create Free Apple ID button on the same screen, below.
    This goes to a New Apple ID page
    I enter location and DOB
    This goes to a New Apple ID page
    I enter all of the information as required, then click Done
    I get an error:
    Cannot Create Apple ID
    If you have an @me.com email address, sign in using your MobileMe password
    This takes me back to where I started without a solution.
